Bug#432474: elfkickers: Repetitions in long descriptions

2007-07-10 Thread Damyan Ivanov
Package: elfkickers
Version: 2.0a-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

Here's an example of what the long description contains:

 * sstrip sstrip is a small [...]
 * rebind rebind is another [...]

Repeating the utility name is redundant and it would be better if it is
omitted.

Thanks for considering,
dam

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.

According to crypt(3), _XOPEN_SOURCE must be defined to access this

Thanks for the report and for the patch! I'll apply it in the next

Bug#428611: boo: can't compile HelloWorld

2007-07-10 Thread Peter Nuttall
Hello,

The problem is you need to have libmono1.0-cil at runtime for booc to
work. Its not a Depends, so to reproduce, you simply try to build
hello.boo in a clean chroot. It is a build-depends though. While I'm
not sure why this is taking place, I suspect its to do with the fact
that the System.dll is in the package. A fix would simply be to add
it as a dependency.

Hope This Helps,

Pete

Bug#432475: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686: Got page allocation failure. order:0 messages in syslog

2007-07-10 Thread Michael Reincke
Package: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686
Version: 2.6.21-5
Severity: important

We arre using MySQL in a master-slave configuration. The master and slave
maschine are running nearly the same packages.

After a few days of uptime (1.5 upto 3.5 days) we see the following messages
in syslog on MySQL slave:

Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: mysqld: page allocation failure.
order:0, mode:0x20

these messages are sporadic. When getting the MySQL master-salve getting back
in sync and just restart MySQL (no reboot) it takes the above mentioned time
and we see nearly the same messages.

At the time of page allocation failure an massive table update on master is
finished and replication is heavily working on slave.

With package linux-image-2.6.21-1-686 (Version 2.6.21-4). We never see such
page allocation failure messages in syslog.

Bug#395354: openoffice.org-impress: freezes Xorg while accessing any of File/Edit/.../Help menus

2007-07-10 Thread Andreas Mohr
I've had a complete, utter and total X.org lockup during oowriter menu access
happen on two(!) entirely different(!) Linux installations recently.
(make that two out of about 8 Linux installations that I'm having more
or less access to, where it crashed the entire box, then do the math
and you'll realize how annoying this issue is...)

a) Dell Inspiron 8000, Debian unstable, current updates,
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M4 AGP
OOo 2.2.0 or 2.2.1 at the point of this crash (3 weeks ago?)

b) P4 box, RHEL 5 beta,
using a semi-working/unstable(?) SiliconMotion X.org driver

IMHO this bug is EXTREMELY SEVERE and should be tracked as much as
possible.

I believe that in the notebook case even ssh login was impossible (may
have been helped by -mm kernel installation, though).
In the P4 case even kill -9'ing OOo and X.org remotely did NOT help,
it kept showing a frozen picture instead of cleanly reverting to
text mode (driver issue probably).

From my development experience it may be a problem of OOo taking the
X11 keyboard grab during menu access and then somehow freezing while
holding the grab. X.org keyboard grab handling seems very problematic
and annoying, especially in a debug session during development
(those optionally configurable keyboard grab busting X.org key combos help,
but it's still very annoying).

My opinion is that this bug is NOT really an OOo issue, rather it's a very
severe limitation of X server operation (if it indeed is a
freeze during keyboard grab issue) and should thus be forwarded to
X.org for discussion.

This bug deserves severity Apocalypse or so, I'd think.
(Severity important definitely doesn't cut it)

Oh, I actually forgot the most annoying part of the problem:
A deadly keyboard grab kills access to keyboard *entirely*,
but in *some* cases only (this OOo crash was one of those, on both boxes):
i.e. not even console key combos work and there's no way to get back
to another tty to be able to kill the X server.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work either.
This is what makes the whole issue extremely ugly and
singularly unacceptable, thus prolonged discussion between X.org
and kernel groups would be in order, to provide a workable workaround/fix
for those keyboard grab issues.

My fingers were itching to already CC *both* X.org and LKML,
but then I managed to prevent that from happening ;)

Thanks,

Andreas Mohr

Is this a bug in cramfs? You might well decide to bring this up
on the linux-kernel mailing list to figure out what's going on.

It is probably a bug in cramfs. It may have already been fixed as the
Linux kernel version is quite old (this is SHARP's original ROM, and
the only way to change it is to reflash it with an unofficial one).

I don't think that this is a bug in Autoconf. Do you agree? If
so, then I will close the bug.

I agree concerning the problems I've reported. But concerning the
cp -p, is the -p useful or just cosmetic?

Bug#261114: window placement screwed up with xinerama/fluxbox

2007-07-10 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov
mfk Dmitry, this version does seem to fix the window placement bug.
mfk Thank you s much for looking into it!

Dear Martin!

I'm very glad that You've appreciated my work. I'll think over Your
suggestion about mail list. However I have no such experience yet – I've
always used the lists maintained by somebody else. And I also don't know
if there are enough of those who are interested. It would be useful to
set my address into maintainer record in order to receive the messages
sent not to BTS but to maintainer. To all appearance Matt Hoppe ignores
them at present. Nevertheless I'm satisfied with my current status: the
main thing is that I have an opportunity to upload maintain the
development of the project :)

As far as the patch for closing this bug is concerned. It proves to be
rather bulky and for the present I'm thinking over whether to make it or
not, because in fluxbox changelog they have already written about
version 1.0.0 - most likely it will be soon released. Instead I am going

Theyr're just reconnected. Most, if not all clients, now silently
 reopen connections when they're closed.

I would prefer to have a discussion with upstream about making this a
  built-in default, if it's really a current and widely-supported
recommendation. It may just be a comment that someone put in the
documentation which hasn't been vetted by the Samba Team as a whole.

 That's possible, yes.

It's quite some time now since I don't read the upstream lists
anymore, which I'm reconsidering to do. Do you think that such
question pertains to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or samba-technical?

I guess this is still an open question, since I haven't seen any discussion
about it on the upstream lists?

samba-technical would be the right list for asking upstream for an official
opinion on whether this should be set by default, AFAIK.

This bug is not marked as RC because no one reported it as such; on the
whole, freetype is perfectly usable for most people and with most
applications, and if there's some other reason that this bug should be
treated as RC and warrant an update in a stable point release, that hasn't
been made clear to me. If you can explain to me why you think this is RC

I'm happy to have the bug escalated to 'serious' and inquire with the SRMs
about accepting an update.

Bug#432480: bug in kdelibs' KDirOperator

2007-07-10 Thread Krasu

Package: kdelibs
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-8

Hi. In Debian Etch I found out that KDirOperator::setupMenu() method
doesn't work. it works in Debian 3.1 with KDE 3.3, but in Debian 4.0 and
KDE 3.5 it fails.

Steps to reproduce: unpack attached archive. Go to kdirop directory. Type

qmake
make
./kdirop

Click right mouse button in appeared window. You will see full actions
set, but you should only have sort actions (line 33 in main.cpp). It is
also impossible to add custom menu items through
KDirOperator::actionCollection()-action(popupMenu)-popupMenu()-insertItem(...)

have been reported (by me) in this changes. It regards large resolution
on i9xx chipsets and is not fixed upstream so far. To workaround it, you
may either revert commit 1e2e301348b4168aeed38b3fdc6b0e43d5678a86, or
just apply the attached patch. Please let me know whether it helps.

* If I use 'auto eth0', 'pump -i eth0' is still running more than
5 minutes after the boot, but the eth0 interface is still down.
'pump -i eth0 --status' says 'Operation failed.' (at boot time,

Running 'pump -i eth0' brought the interface up.

* If I use 'allow-hotplug eth0', 'pump -i eth0' isn't running after

Unfortunately, pump doesn't output any message to /var/log/syslog

Bug#432333: subversion: complains about LC_CTYPE

2007-07-10 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Daniel Jacobowitz]
No, it is not OK to close this bug report; can you reproduce it with
a locale that you've actually got?

No, I can't reproduce this with any of the 21 locales which 'locale -a'
lists on my system. That includes locales using ASCII, ISO-8859-1,
ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-15, and UTF-8.

What character encoding does en_US represent, anyway? I'm curious.
I suppose you can find out by reading /etc/locale.gen. Alternatively,
run some non-ASCII text through iconv -t utf-8 and see what iconv
converts it from.

Bug#432489: gcc-4.2: error when compiling kernel 2.6.22: Error: too many memory references for `lea'

Package: gcc-4.2

I unable to compile released kernel 2.6.22 with gcc-4.2:
gcc-4.2 (GCC) 4.2.1 20070707 (prerelease) (Debian 4.2-20070707-1)

The compilation ends up with the following error:

The very same kernel sources with the very same configuration are compiled with
gcc-4.1 without any errors.
So, it must be some kind of regression.

The problem is a __DIE__ signal triggering from an eval() block in

Bug#432488: does not honour vim's runtimepath

Yet, when I use vim-addon install, it stuffs links into ~/.vim, even
creating the directory if it did not yet exist. I am not sure how
easy it is to parse runtimepath, but it would be great if it did:
iterate the directories and install to the first writeable one.

Bug#432493: fluxbox locks up when using skype

2007-07-10 Thread clayton
Package: fluxbox
Version: 1.0~rc3-2
Severity: important

Something new in my environment has exposed a bug in fluxbox. Not only
the newer versions of fluxbox are broken, but also fluxbox version
0.9.14 which used to work just fine with skype until a recent apt-get
upgrade.

Using latest skype version 1.4.0.74, this is what happens for all
versions of fluxbox 0.9.14 thru 1.0~rc3-2 that I have tested: starting
skype and then trying to initiate a chat with another skype user results
in fluxbox CPU utilization shooting permanently up to 80-90%, and
fluxbox stops responding to the mouse and keyboard. This is reliably
100% repeatable. I must log in over the network and kill -9 fluxbox,
then login again, in order to restore function.

I am using latest skype version: 1.4.0.74
Fluxbox 0.9.14 used to work but is also broken.

Openbox version 3.3 currently works fine with skype.

Bug#432502: zgrep -h doesn't work / zcat ungzipped files neither

Package: gzip
Version: 1.3.5-15 and 1.3.12-3
Severity: wishlist

grep -h on say file1 file2 doesn't show the file1:whateverisfound but just shows

it looks like -h is in the escaped option list in the current zgrep wrapper...

you can easily duplicate your failure, though.

Bug#432491: missing conflict with lib32z1

2007-07-10 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Aurelien Jarno [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007.07.10.1043 +0200]:
 not a libc problem.

Well, my bad for not checking lib32z1, but the important point is
that I dist-upgraded within sid and libc6 failed to install, not
lib32z1. Thus, since lib32z1 was first, it's libc6's job to work
around it e.g. by conflicting with the bad lib32z1 versions. But
I guess we can just look over this now since lib32z1 has also been
updated. The bad version still lives in lenny though, so I wonder
what will happen if libc6 migrates to lenny before lib32z1. Also, on
pure lenny systems, they will run into exactly the same conflict if
they try to do a dist-upgrade, which includes both, lib32z1 and
libc6 2.6.

anything.

A TIFF file with an embedded sRGB profile is displayed badly in every
case.

A TIFF file with no embedded profile is diplayed correctly in the
standard viewer, but they look weird in the editor.

JPEG, PNG, DNG, XCF files are diplayed correctly.

I had the same problems with backports for etch of the older 0.9.2-beta
versions of digikam and showfoto.

Is it an endianess problem again, like it was for bug #351931 ?

After the update of ttf-opensymbol 2.0.3-2 - 2.2.1-4 the postrm script
failed and the resulting non-configured package
brought all depending updates (ooffice) to a standstill.

Removing or purging ttf-opensystem failed for the same reason.

The error message was something about error scanning /usr/share/fonts

The deadlock could be left with updating fontconfig

[AKTUALISIERUNG] fontconfig 2.3.2-7 - 2.4.2-1.2
[AKTUALISIERUNG] fontconfig-config 2.4.1-2 - 2.4.2-1.2

so I assume a conflict with fontconfig = 2.3.2 might solve the problem.

Bug#432512: Merging ConfigObj with list_value=False and list_value=True creates spurious double quotes

2007-07-10 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: python-configobj
Version: 4.4.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

thanks for maintaining ConfigObj.

I'm using ConfigObj merge operations and list_value=False, and I've
found that in some cases ConfigObj adds spurious double quotes artifacts
to parsed string values.

This is the code that reproduces the problem:

from configobj import ConfigObj
from StringIO import StringIO

# A normal ConfigObj
co = ConfigObj()
# Note: this is the same as doing:
# co = ConfigObj(list_values = True)
# If I use a ConfigObj with list_values=False, the problem does not
# show.

# Create a new section
co[test] = dict()

# Merge in options with list values turned off
co1 = ConfigObj(list_values = False)
co1[foo] = bar, baz
co[test].merge(co1)

# Write it out
buf = StringIO()
co.write(buf)

# Read it again
buf1 = StringIO(buf.getvalue())
co2 = ConfigObj(infile = buf1, list_values = False)

# test/foo gets extra double quotes
print co2[test][foo]

The last line prints:

bar, baz

With double quotes: the double quotes have been parsed as part of the
string, rather than stripped as syntactic sugar of the config file
syntax.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#432426: soya: FTBFS: unmet build dep libcal3d11-dev

2007-07-10 Thread Duck

Coin,

Michael, would you please in the future warn the maintainers of the
cal3d rdepends packages before uploading any major version ? I just
uploaded a new python-soya, but libcal3d11-dev has disapeared from the
archive, leading to FTBFS. sear and osgcal are now broken too. I hope a
mere rebuild would be sufficient, but it would have been better to check
everything before uploading in unstable.

Bug#432510: ttf-opensymbol fails to update with old version of fontconfig

2007-07-10 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

Uh. A upgrade from *2.0.3-2*? What? Etch does contain 2.0.4.
If you upgrade from sarge+bpo (which would contain
2.0.3-6~bpo.4, so even something newer than you have),
skipping releases are not supported. Upgrade to etch and then to sid if
you want.

In any case, I don't think we should add the conflicts. IMHO it's a
fontconfig bug that fc-cache fails and they should fix this.
ttf-opensymbol (just as any other font package) just runs fc-cache.

The deadlock could be left with updating fontconfig

 [AKTUALISIERUNG] fontconfig 2.3.2-7 - 2.4.2-1.2
 [AKTUALISIERUNG] fontconfig-config 2.4.1-2 - 2.4.2-1.2
 [AKTUALISIERUNG] libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 - 2.4.2-1.2

Again, from which interesting system are you upgrading?

fontconfig |2.3.1-2 | oldstable | source, alpha, arm, hppa,
i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
fontconfig | 2.4.2-1.2 | etch-m68k | source, m68k
fontconfig | 2.4.2-1.2 |stable | source, alpha, amd64, arm,
hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
fontconfig | 2.4.2-1.2 | unstable | source, alpha, amd64, arm,
hppa, hurd-i386, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

so I assume a conflict with fontconfig = 2.3.2 might solve the problem.

And would make a sarge backport (which is being worked on) not possible
without removing this dependency again.

Shouldn't the package name be python-ll-core? Anyway, you should
probably mention in the short description that it is a collection of

By the way, you might want to try xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.192

If it doesn't help, there's also the randr-1.2 branch of the upstream

should be better at detecting correct modes. I have packaged some
snapshots at
http://alioth.debian.org/~bgoglin-guest/xserver-xorg-video-ati.randr-1.2/

 3) Xorg.1.log is the log file from the server in (2). The crash
happened when I closed down the xterm that was the only client
 running.

I think it's a (unrelated) known problem and already fixed upstream.

Why not promote these to requirements in a particular policy version

This is a much better idea.

Currently, policy says that it's recommended (the weakest policy
directive) to support noopt and nostrip. My main concern with increasing
the strength of that directive is that, depending on how demented the
upstream build system is, it can be difficult to support these options,
and since neither is used for regular builds in Debian, they're not
usually tested and aren't necessary for properly functioning packages.

Surely we are planning to support these options in all packages
eventually ? In a package where it is difficult to separate out the
work for binary-indep, it would be acceptable to say:
   binary-indep: binary
   binary-arch: binary
   binary: build
   some stuff
?

I'm tempted to suggest _just_ going by the package's Standards-Version.

Ian.

100%, 50% looks like 100% again with other values in between. I have not

Version: 2007.06.24-1
Severity: important

Hi,

Since the last update of vim (to 1:7.1-022+1 I think) the nice omlet mode does
not seem to be used anymore when editing ml files and the old mode seems to be
used. I've tried to dpkg-reconfigure ocaml-tools but it did not do any
good. I don't know if something should be changed in omlet or if it's
vim's fault so feel free to reassign...

Cheers,

Samuel.

Bug#289338: xserver-xfree86: impossible to setup 1400x1050 mode

2007-07-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Fabien COUTANT wrote:

rejecting mode with horizontal resolution 1400 not divisibile by 16 and

(check the joined logs / configs)

 Of course 1400 isn't a multiple of 16 but I know it's not a hardware
constraint. Additionally I tested with no explicit modeline and it works
 out a 1400x1050 @ 60 Hz resolution ! (see t1/*)

I don't know where the 135000 comes from... but it's totally not coherent.
It has picked up 1280x960 @ 85 Hz which works at 148.5 MHz. The card has
aXorg.0.log clock range (logged) from 12 to 270 MHz which is far enough to
 display themode I wanted.

This corresponding code has been here from the beginning of the XFree86
CVS 10 years ago, and there is no documentation about it. If you're
interested, you could try removing the check and see what happens.

Note that there is a patch
(debian/patches/02_tdfx_improve_mode_rejection_diagnostics.diff) which
modifies the code to add some messages.

Bug#432520: exmap-modules-source: ignores set kernel source directory, but uses /lib/modules/$KVERS/build instead

2007-07-10 Thread Michael Prokop
Package: exmap-modules-source
Version: 0.10-1
Severity: important

Problem description (taken from m-a's buildlog):

[...]
make KVERS=2.6.22-grml KERNEL_SOURCES=/raid/Grml/kernel/linux-2.6.22-grml
MODVERSIONS=detect KERNEL=linux-2.6.22-grml

make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.22-grml/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: Leaving an unknown directory
make[2]: *** [kernel_modules] Error 2
[...]

Commandline of m-a:

KPKG_DEST_DIR=/raid/Grml/kernel/ module-assistant -f -l '2.6.22-grml' \
 -k /raid/Grml/kernel/linux-2.6.22-grml build exmap-modules

Reason:

You set KERNEL_SOURCES in debian/rules but that's not used anywhere
in upstream's build system. Instead: when building, the Makefile of
upstream uses /lib/modules/$KVERS/build which won't work if that
file/symlink doesn't exist - for example because I'm compiling
against a kernel which isn't installed (yet) as in the example
above. I'm using the '-k' option of m-a therefore but it's ignored
by the build system.

Workaround:

# ln -s $KERNELSOURCE /lib/modules/$KVERS/build

But of course that's only a hack around a bug. ;)

Bug#432521: exim4-config: Relaying broken: MAIN_RELAY_DOMAINS != MAIN_RELAY_TO_DOMAINS

2007-07-10 Thread Ben Wheeler
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.67-5
Severity: important

Hi there,
Not sure how long this has been broken, but I just spotted that my
backup MX was no longer relaying for my domains.

Tried dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. Got confused by the fact that
it asks for semicolon separated lists when mine were colon-separated.
Tried both ways. Still no dice.

After faffing around for a bit, I found that
/var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated contains:
.ifndef MAIN_RELAY_DOMAINS
MAIN_RELAY_DOMAINS=; qolc.net;life.eu.org;wuzware.com;quextal.com
.endif

However, /etc/exim4/conf.d/main/01_exim4-config_listmacrosdefs
and /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template
contain
domainlist relay_to_domains = MAIN_RELAY_TO_DOMAINS

So there seems to be an inconsistency in the naming of this macro.

Changing MAIN_RELAY_TO_DOMAINS to MAIN_RELAY_DOMAINS in the /etc/exim4 files
and restarting seems to have fixed relaying for me. No idea if this is
the right solution though...

I've put this as 'important' because it broke a previously functional
backup MX or relay, with no errors from exim on startup warning about
the undefined macro.

Regards,
Ben Wheeler

There is a patch in clamav bugzilla:

That looks like the wrong patch, based on later conversations in the bug
