Bug#500794: uswsusp - s2ram does not follow kernel

2008-10-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Bastian Blank ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

It is unusable on an unknown amount of machines. I would have no problem
with that if it is only installed on request, but it is included in the
laptop task and therefor a standard package.

So?

That still makes a good argument for Severity: important if you
think that this deserve such importance..

This could make an argument to remove it from the laptop task, maybe.

(please note that I do not necessarily agree with both of those
statements, I just bring you less violent options than an RC bug)

But I don't see this as enough to virtually suggest that the package
as is should not be shipped with lenny.

As Sven pointed later, does the kernel driver know what machines
will properly wake up after suspend? From my experience, this is
mandatory.

Bug#491788: Announce of an upcoming upload for the xsp package

2008-10-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of xsp and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the xsp Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

The package maintainer and I agreed for a translation update round. At
the end of this period, I will send him|her a full patch so that
an l10n upload can happen.
The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fi fr gl nl pt ru si sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: es

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the xsp package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, October
08, 2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

Schedule:

Wednesday, October 01, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, October 02, 2008 : send this notice
Wednesday, October 08, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, October 09, 2008 : Send a summary to the maintainer.
Maintainer uploads
 when possible.

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Please have a look at the lintian warnings at [1]:

 * out-of-date-standards-version and
patch-system-but-direct-changes-in-diff
+ If I am correct using the patch system to convey all the changes
should allow to bump the standards version.
+ If I understand correctly having configure in the dependencies of
the clean rule in debian/rules makes the diff.gz file contain a lot
of generated (and thus unnecessary) changes in the Makefiles.
+ A README.source should be added to explain the use of the patch
system.

 With kind regards,

Thanks, we're on the same page then. I'll revert the perldoc change.

Does this documentation patch for lenny look OK to you?

Bug#500864: ITP: python-wordaxe -- germanic (and basic) hyphenation algorithms

2008-10-02 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Trent W. Buck [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The rst2pdf utility (see #496864) cannot create hyphenated output
without this library. Therefore I wish to package it for Debian.
Attached is a minimal, draft .diff.gz that I have created.

I do not intend to do further work on wordaxe until rst2pdf makes it
through NEW.

* Package name: python-wordaxe
  Version : 0.2.6
Upstream Author : Henning von Bargen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://deco-cow.sf.net/
* License : Apache2.0 | BSD-2
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : germanic (and basic) hyphenation algorithms

The wordaxe library (formerly known as deco-cow) provides Python
programs with the ability to automatically hyphenate words using an
algorithm which is based on decomposition of compound words into base
words, and is named DCWHyphenator in the code.
 .
Currently, only German language is supported for the
DCWHyphenator. Other germanic languages like Nederlands, Dansk,
etc. that make heave use of compound words should profit from the
algorithm as well - as soon as someone provides a word base.
 .
Apart from the DCWHyphenator, the library supports other algorithms
 as well:
 .
  * BaseHyphenator is language-independent and splits words only after
a few special characters (in particular, '-').
 .
  * PyHnjHyphenator is a pure Python implementation of the hyphenation
algorithm used in TeX and OpenOffice.
 .
The library can be used as a simple add-on to the ReportLab PDF
library, adding support for automatic hyphenation in the Paragraph
 line-breaking method.

Bug#500865: git-dch submodule support

2008-10-02 Thread Guido Günther
Package: git-buildpackage
Severity: wishlist

Manoj keeps debian/ in a git submodule (do others also use this
workflow?). In this case git-dch can't detect all the changes, here's
what could be done (as suggested by Manoj):

first find the top of the tree :
,
| base_dir=$(git-rev-parse --show-cdup 2/dev/null) || return 1
| if [[ -n $base_dir ]]; then
| base_dir=$(readlink -f $base_dir)
| else
| base_dir=$PWD
| fi
`

Then it can explicitly look for $base_dir/.gitmodules, and for
path = debian in there, to see if it is a module (alternately, simply
look for $base_dir/debian/.git, which is less clever, but still works).

Then it can just cd $base_dir/debian/, and gather more things to
  add. The problem probably is keeping track of a second set of commits;
we need not just the build branch, we now need a ./debian submodule
  branch,

Bug#500867: RFP: python-pyhyphen -- Python wrapper for libhyphen

2008-10-02 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

The rst2pdf utility (see #496864) can apparently do much better
hyphenating when the pyhyphen library is installed. In fact, rst2pdf
currently has some bugs[0] that make hyphenating break entirely unless
pyhyphen is present.

Packaging this turns out to be a nightmare, because setup.py does
horrible things[1], and I don't have enough Python-fu to tell it to
use libhyphen-dev instead of the convenience copy.

PyHyphen is a wrapper for the Python programming language around the

Bug#495667: VEs started during the boot can't use network sometimes

2008-10-02 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

I have created openvz bug http://bugzilla.openvz.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1037 now.

 Hi,

I'm running stock i386 lenny with current -openvz kernel from unstable.
Everything runs fine, except the VEs that are started during the boot.

Sometimes they can't use the network, as if ip_forwarding is not active,
Which is not the case, I have the following in /etc/sysctl.conf:
 net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

I can fix this by restarting the VEs - after that the networking works ok.
I believe this might be a race condition like starting OpenVZ before
 the ip_forwarding
feature is set, because it only happens with VEs stared during the boot:

 1) When I start VE manually (i.e. some time after the boot), networking works.
 2) When I restart VE, networking works.
 3) When I let the rc script to start VE, I have like 50% chance
 networking will not work.

 Kind Regards
 Frank

Bug#494444: kacpid is in uninteruptible sleep and produces loads 1

2008-10-02 Thread Nicolas Duboc
  Hi,

I confirm this bug. Upgrading from 2.6.25-2 to 2.6.26-1 caused kacpi
and kacpi_notify processes to use more tha 75% of my CPU. My laptop is a
Dell Precision M70.

On my config they are interuptible but kill -9 has not effect on them.

  $ ps aux|grep kacpi
  root41 0.4 0.0 0 0 ?S Oct01 5:16 [kacpid]
  root42 0.9 0.0 0 0 ?R Oct01 11:41
[kacpi_notify]

  $ top
  ...
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
 42 root 15 -5 000 S 54.3 0.0 12:17.65 kacpi_notify
 41 root 15 -5 000 S 24.6 0.0 5:33.28 kacpid

I found a report for a similar problem in Kernel bugtracker, but it
concerned previous versions of the kernel and was rejected :
   http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8274

I have to downgrade to 2.6.25-2 as acpi is important for me.

Bug#499963: [Calendarserver-maintainers] Bug#499963: calendarserver: caldavd fails to authenticate and autocreate principal when running with NssDirectoryService

2008-10-02 Thread Guido Günther
On Wed, Oct 01, 2008 at 04:24:58PM -0700, Ben Poliakoff wrote:
Alright I see what's going on. The NssDirectoryService is required by

Thanks for debugging this! Now that we knew that the xml service works I
was about to let you add debug code that prints out the users found in
listRecords but you found out yourself already.

My server is configured to use files and LDAP for NSS calls. We have
several thousand users in our LDAP directory and implement the default
limit of 500 search results. As a result 'getent passwd' returns
a subset of all valid accounts (not including the 'benp' account).
Yes, the nss service is basically meant for smaller installations as a
quick means of not having double account maintenance, it's far to slow
for that many users (calendarsever itself will have problems with this
itlself - at least in 1.2).

This can be used if only a few users need a calendar: add an hasCalendar
attribute to every PosixAccount and filter in libnss-ldap by using the

nss_base_passwd base?scope?hasCalendar=True

(in case you use a separate machine for the calendar server). I'm doing
something similar to cut down on the number of groups being looked at.

I think I might take a stab at writing a generic LDAPDirectoryService
using your NssDirectoryService as an example.
There's already code in the calendarserver.org bugtracker for that. It
might be worth testing it out and reporting back.

So in the end this isn't really a bug with NssDirectoryService; but it's
probably worth noting in the documentation that NssDirectoryService will
only work properly within an environment where *all* valid users can be
retrieved via the equivalent of 'getent passwd'.
I'll add that, thanks.

Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for your time!
Thanks for debugging this.

First of all, if you know what command-line arguments you need to suspend
you can use those with --force. If you use hal (via gnome-power-manager)

Each kernel driver is allowed to veto suspension.

The video card in a machine and its driver is of course of great influence
on the ability of the machine to supsend and resume, but the not the only
factor. There is also for example the BIOS.

There's little point in suspending a machine that won't resume
 correctly afterwards.

Do you have a number which amount of machines have problems?

The number of machines that didn't came up by itself always used to be
much bigger than the number that did.

I must confess that I'm not following that number that well at the moment.
Also there are some maior changes in very new kernels (.27 ?) that will
change that number dramatically.

The reasoning always was: better safe than sorry. Let users first figure
out what is safe consciously, before trying to suspend without knowing
resume will succeed (and risking data-loss).

Bug#358965: bash: please include a PROMPT_COMMAND for screen

2008-10-02 Thread Stephen Walker
I'm unable to see this working. How is this supposed to work?

You probably should use:

screen*)
PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -n -e \033k\033\0134'
;;

See https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?24133#comment0.

Or

screen*)
PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne \033k\033\\'
;;

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/188938.

AFAIK the screen PROMPT_COMMAND case in .bashrc is dependent upon the following
being in your .screenrc:

# Set the title to the name of the running program
shelltitle $ |bash

See the TITLES (naming windows) section in the screen man page.

Bug#500871: schroot: Revisiting bug#427047: followup implementation question

2008-10-02 Thread Peter Rabbitson
Package: schroot
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

I finally came back to using schroot, and was delighted to find the
feature I proposed some time ago fully implemented. I have a
documentation/example question though. Everywhere in the documentation
and in the default fstab file you assert that The format of this file
is the same as for /etc/fstab, documented in fstab(5). However in my
initial proposal I dropped the 5th and 6th field, namely fs_freq and
fs_passno. Is there a reason to maintain those without mentioning that
their values are ignored? Or are the values in fact interpreted in some way?

Thank you

Peter

2008-10-02 Thread Petr Salinger

Hi,

the current version does not work on amd64.
There are at least two problems.

1) check for endianity
you should put into gpart.h something like

  #include endian.h

  #if defined(__BYTE_ORDER)  (__BYTE_ORDER == __BIG_ENDIAN)
  ...
  #elif defined(__BYTE_ORDER)  (__BYTE_ORDER == __LITTLE_ENDIAN)
  ...
  #else
  #error unknown endian
  #endif

2) there is used long type inside structures coming directly from disk
at least in dos_part_entry, p_start and p_size should be uint32_t

attached is a log, while the problem exists.

Interesting enough: The symptom is similar to the system behaviour, if
nslcd is _not_ running. Then all files resolve to nobody:nogroup.

However there is no problem visible from the log.

Bug#500837: libsane's udev rules not recognised

Dave Page [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi,

I had to manually restart udev to get it to read the rules file; after
that (and unplugging and replugging the scanner) the permissions were
 correct and everything was fine.

Actually, udev watches for changes to the rules files (and for
additions/deletions) and reloads them on the fly.

libsane should do this for you when it is installed so installation is
 more transparent.

Triggering a coldplug is not recommended AFAIK.

Bug#500876: linux-image-2.6.26-1-openvz-amd64: Booting on SMP server fails

2008-10-02 Thread Tobias Stocker
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-openvz-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-5
Severity: important

On a Dell PowerEdge 1955 (two Quad Core CPUs), the kernel fails on boot
with the regular boot parameters. With the nosmp boot option or
maxcpus=4, the whole thing works fine. With maxcpus=8 or just no
special command, the kernel fails on boot.

On a second, identical system, I also installed the 2.6.26-1-amd64
kernel but _without_ OpenVZ support. This one is running fine.

Bug#500795: Etch SPARC install fails to sync monitor.

2008-10-02 Thread Frans Pop
On Wednesday 01 October 2008, Donald Pellegrino wrote:
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for keeping the
installer from changing graphic modes or for specifying the appropriate
 monitor frequency to the installer.

The installer does not really do anything. The problem is more likely to
be in the kernel.

One option you can try is 'fb=false', but that is unlikely to work.

You have a better chance of success by trying to explicitly set the video
mode for the framebuffer driver your graphics controller uses.
That would be 'video=fb driver:settings', or maybe
'fb driver.option=value'.

You'll have to check the kernel's Documentation/fb directory and possibly
google around a bit for the correct settings.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#500879: gnome-keyring-manager: asks for confirmation once per saved wireless password

2008-10-02 Thread Will Thompson
Package: gnome-keyring-manager
Version: 2.20.0-1
Severity: minor

When I opened gnome-keyring-manager to look at the passphrase for a
particular wireless network, I got one dialog per saved wireless
passphrase. Paraphrased:

Do you want to allow Keyring Manager access to the password for
/foo/bar/baz?

[Deny] [Allow Once] [Always Allow]

I had to bounce on the stream of dialogs' Always Allow button about 30
times before I could use the keyring manager, given that I have quite a
few wireless passphrases stored.

It strikes me that the keyring manager should be able to get blanket
access to all passwords stored in a keyring, given a single
confirmation, since its intention is to manage those passwords! :-)

this bugs seems to be gone in the newest upstream version 1.51 of

a bug of jumpnbump and not of jumpnbump-levels as you already said.

Greetings,

Not in itself, but it might be the case in connection with some plugin
extensions that enable comments or web editing (none of them are shipped
in Debian). I'm sorry to have wrongly put it as medium into the security
tracker in the first place which was clearly wrong. I guess even low
might be too high of an option, but we finally figured out a way that
it's possible to inject a / into the output that enables it to inject
arbitrary data.

If proof reading works with irussian, then we'll know that the problem
is with the tools used to generate myspell-ru (which would also affect
 aspell-ru).

 [...]

So, something about the build process must be broken.

Yes, myspell-tools was broken. A fixed version has been uploaded, but
this now means that all packages who Build-Depend on myspell-tools
must be rebuilt via bin-NMU. This is a process that requires the
 intervention of release managers.

Now that the fixed myspell-tools has been uploaded, we're re-building
rus-ispell to produce fresh myspell-ru and aspell-ru packages. They
should be available in unstable/sid sometimes during the next couple
of days.

Johannes, can you please let us know later during the weekend, after
the update has been pushed to all Debian mirrors, if this improved the
situation?

Bug#499774: starttls is a joke

This software does not have any authentication capabilities: it does
not allow you to authenticate your peer, which is a basic requirement
for TLS/SSL to be used securely. You should only use it for testing

 That seems correct to me.

Note that even if you use gnutls-cli, you need to configure it to use
appropriate trust anchors to get full security.

I hope you mean a working setup. If you do not provide it any (set of)
trust anchor, it should not be able to verify server's certificate and
 should fail, shouldn't it?

Right, and that's what I meant with you need to configure it to use
appropriate trust anchors. If you do that, you should get full
security (whatever that means).

Bug#500881: crystalcursors: bad priority for x-cursor-theme alternatives

2008-10-02 Thread Georg Lukas
Package: crystalcursors
Version: 1.1.1-10
Severity: normal

The default x-cursor-theme alternative priority for all cursors is 50,
causing the actually selected alternative to be semi-random (depending
on the file name?). In my current setup it caused a left-handed cursor
to become default, confusing the users.

There should be one suggested theme with higher priority than the rest.

Bug#500883: dmraid: boot fails after upgrading to 1.0.0.rc14-4

2008-10-02 Thread Peter Leipold
Package: dmraid
Version: 1.0.0.rc14-4
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I upgraded dmraid from an earlier version, I don't know which one, but it was
from the pre-udev startup.

After the upgrade the boot stops at waiting for the root filesystem. I get a
busybox prompt. I figured out what to type to continue booting up:
$ modprobe dm-mirror
$ dmraid -ay
$ exit

Then I found bug 499060, message #45 which might solve my problem. So I have
added
the first 2 missing modprobe lines to /etc/.../85_dmraid.rules file which looks
like
this now:

# ...
RUN+=/sbin/modprobe dm-mod
RUN+=/sbin/modprobe dm-mirror
SUBSYSTEM==block, ACTION==add|change, ENV{ID_TYPE}==disk,
ENV{ID_FS_USAGE}==raid, KERNEL==hd[a-z]|sd[a-z], \
RUN+=/sbin/dmraid-activate %k

After recreating initramfs, and rebooting, I still get the busybox prompt. But
now
I don't have to type modprobe dm-mirror anymore, simply executing dmraid -ay
works, it creates the devices under /dev/mapper/ and boot goes on. So the
problem
is partly solved.

At the moment I have no more time to debug this further. Why dmraid is not
executed
automatically? Any idea?

Thanks,
Peter

Bug#500888: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-amd64: cannot specify lo as non 127.0.0.1 in vserver guests

2008-10-02 Thread Matthew Sackman
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-6
Severity: important

Each of my vserver guests has a separate loopback interface. This is
specified as normal in /etc/vserver/$guest/interfaces/. For example, I
have:
.../1/dev is lo
.../1/ip is 127.32.0.1
.../1/prefix is 8

Under 2.6.22-3-vserver-amd64 (and earlier), this all worked fine. Under
2.6.26-1-vserver-amd64 this does not work: every vserver guest is
started with lo as 127.0.0.1, thus breaking the internal network badly.

Bug#500890: libnss-pgsql2: Wrong SQL querys in nss-pgsql.conf

2008-10-02 Thread Torsten Irländer
Package: libnss-pgsql2
Version: 1.4.0debian-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear maintainers,

I run into some problems with the nss-pgsql.conf file comming in this package
which does not work for me out of the box.

After creating all needed tables and putting the exampe config in place doing
a getnet group results in the following errors in the postgres log:

2008-10-02 13:12:17 CEST FEHLER: Spalte »username« existiert nicht bei Zeichen

Befehle werden bis zum Ende der Transaktion ignoriert
2008-10-02 13:12:17 CEST ANWEISUNG: FETCH FROM

After tweaking the SQL querys a bit getent passwd and getent groups works
for me again.

Patch for this is available

Regards, Torsten

Bug#500889: chg-manual: Keeps asking for new tapes instead of using any

2008-10-02 Thread Daniel Dickinson
Package: amanda-server
Version: 1:2.5.2p1-4
Severity: normal
File: chg-manual

When using runtapes 1 and chg-manual amcheck and amdump don't accept the
current tape but instead keep asking for new tapes. This appears to be because
amanda wants, after processing the tapes, to go back to the first one but
chg-manual doesn't go backwards and acts like a 99 tape changer. The solution
is to have chg-manual tell amanda it is a gravity stacker.

# Pretend we're a gravity stacker
backward=0

else

Hi,

can you send an Xorg log from the crash (should be in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after reboot), or even better try to log in
remotely before the crash, attach gdb to the X server process, and catch
a full backtrace when it segfaults (make sure xserver-xorg-core-dbg is

Bug#500830: Misc packaging fixes

2008-10-02 Thread Loïc Minier
I prepared these additional changes as well:
  * Set DEB_MAKE_CHECK_TARGET to check || true to not fail the build if the
testsuite doesn't pass; NB: it does seem to pass currently.
  * Use Vcs-* headers instead of XS-Vcs-*.
  * Bump up Standards-Version to 3.8.0.

Test suite can be run and cause the build to fail if it fails by
removing the || true which might be what one wants.

I am attaching the watch file.

Bug#500883: dmraid: boot fails after upgrading to 1.0.0.rc14-4

2008-10-02 Thread Peter

Hi Giuseppe,

I've done it, but the log files are not there. Looks like udev does not call
this activate script at all.

The block devices do exist, I've seen these in busybox:

brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 0 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sda
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 1 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sda1
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 2 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sda2
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 3 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sda3
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 4 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sda4
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 16 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sdb
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 17 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sdb1
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 18 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sdb2
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 19 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sdb3
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 20 2008-10-02 15:54 /dev/sdb4

Also /dev/disk/... was present.

I now suspect the ENV{ID_FS_USAGE}==raid option in udev rules file. How
should udev supposed to know if a disk is raid? Maybe I should rename
something to this raid? See below my raid settings:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# dmraid -r
/dev/sdb: ddf1, .ddf1_disks, GROUP, ok, 390361088 sectors, data@ 0
/dev/sda: ddf1, .ddf1_disks, GROUP, ok, 390361088 sectors, data@ 0

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# dmraid -s
*** Group superset .ddf1_disks
-- Active Subset
name : ddf1_system
size : 390361088
stride : 128
type : mirror
status : ok
subsets: 0
devs : 2

Hm, should name be here raid, instead of ddf1_system?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Eric,
can we get this bug fixed for lenny? It's a trivial typo and prevents a

What were the kernel versions on both the client and server?
I would like to knock this out before cutting another release of
nfs-utils...

Phew, package manager logs fortunately tell me 'cause I didn't
remember.

Client: 2.6.26.3
Server: 2.6.26

Those were both home-compiled, non-patched kernels from kernel.org,
not Debian kernels.

Hope this helps - I will gladly send you more information if you might
need anything.
Ok... I am not able to reproduce this problem with the following setup:

both server and client: 2.6.25-1.fc9.x86_64 and nfs-utils-1.1.3-5.fc10.x86_64

mount server:/home /mnt/home
(as steved) cd /mnt/home/steved touch foo

with no problem... what am I doing differently that you guys?

In my case I run Debian stable (nfs-utils 1.0.10) on the server and
Debian unstable (1.1.3) on the client.

I have not tried upgrading the server (which is probably not an option
until Debian Lenny is released), but running the client with sec=sys
solves the problem for me like here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=492970#40

There is talk about a debian specific patch that might be the culprit
here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=492970#90

When I read that message, I tried without that patch and had the same
problem. I even tried without all debian patches and the bug was there.

I just tried again with the same result.

The mentioned patch:

Bug#499662: Proposed changes for #499662

2008-10-02 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi,

I read in #499662 that you propose to
remove /usr/lib/libcairo-directfb/lib/libcairo.so.* and only rely on the
libcairo-directfb.so.* library. However I’m afraid this is going to
break the GTK+ DirectFB build. Currently, it is very hackish, and relies
on the availability of those files in /usr/lib/libcairo-directfb.

The reason is that pangocairo can link to each of the two cairo
libraries, and therefore we don’t rebuild it for the DirectFB version.
Which means, if we only link gdk/gtk to libcairo-directfb, it will also
bring libcairo through the pangocairo dependencies. Some symbols would
be contained in both libcairo versions, which *may* work, but which
opens the door to a large number of very subtle and incomprehensible
bugs.

A saner solution is probably to enable DirectFB support in the regular
cairo build, and to ship the DirectFB-only version only in the udeb. It
would add a hard dependency on libdirectfb-1.0-0 and would require some
changes to the gtk+2.0 build, but would make things a lot cleaner in
this sense - and that would definitely fix #499662.

A variant of this is to make the libcairo2-directfb package ship a
DirectFB and X-enabled library that comes as a diversion to the one in
libcairo2. It avoids installation of libdirectfb-1.0-0 on all systems.

I can work on patches if people agree on one of these solutions, and
especially if it is accepted by the release team. It will imply changes
in the pango1.0, gtk+2.0 and cdebconf builds.

Cheers,

Bug#500898: Missing version in my DDPO page

2008-10-02 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi. KiBi has kindly sponsored an updated package (0.0.15.1) of usbmount
(which I recently adopted).

The problem I have is that both my DDPO page [1] doesn't show the new
version of the package, even though the DDPO page listed this version while
it was in incoming and the package is already in the package mirrors [2].

The tooltip on the version of my DDPO page for this package says:
unstable: (no projectb data found).

I would appreciate if this were updated and, if further information is
wanted, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, Rogério Brito.

The manual page says that the 'debian' target will optionally patch

outdated?

Bug#500896: vim: python syntax higlighting fails on some text portions

2008-10-02 Thread Nicolas Évrard

Package: vim
Version: 2:7.2.010-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

Sometimes when there is some huge pieces of docstrings in python files
vim fails to correctly highlight some place of the text : the
docstring is hightlighted as the code and vice-versa.

For an example of this behavior opens core.py from the python-genshi
package. It appears that it happens when you jump on a line and that
the first line displayed in the terminal is part of a long docstring.
