i.e. I assume that you ran out of space in $TMPDIR, or whereever you
have specified in Edit/Preferences.

It this bug is not related to a python issue, it's related to the file
format of the policy files.
Anyway, this make the package more or less unusable.

With the attached patch, eikazo is usable again with HP scanners.
The patch is just a minimal (and harmless) workaround. So it does not
solve the real problem behind, which seems to be connected with SANE.
