Bug#307736: After update to 1.0.4, sylpheed-claws no longer finds libgpgme, can't sign outgoing email.

GPG support is now provided via plugins, (since a few versions),

You need to load the plugins, /Configuration/Plugins/Load Plugin

Bug#307647: tex4ht: unicode used when it is not needed

2005-05-05 Thread Ran Gilad-Bachrach
Dear Kapil,

My main goal in using tex4ht is to share documents with people who
do not use TeX, or process the documents by other programs. For this
purpose, the problem I have reported on is important as it prevents
such use. However, for the sake of publishing a document in html
format, this is of no major concern. Thus, I accept your opinion that
this should be counted in the wish list.

Thank you for the great assistance,

   Rani

tex4ht---I do think it is up to text viewers/browsers that
render unicode to do this job as correctly as possible).

Bug#307720: Possible security bugs in rlm_sq

2005-05-05 Thread Paul TBBle Hampson
severity 307720 minor
Thankyou Mr Bug Control Robot.

Thankyou for the report.

The latter three bugs were fixed by revision 1.132 [1] of CVS HEAD's rlm_sql.c
[2] and I'll review and pull it in, and see if I can get an upload done despite
the freeze. I think this means I also have to pull in the change in revision
1.134 [3] but I need to check the flow there first.

The first bug you mentioned is indeed a bug. I will fix it in both HEAD and
here by simply adding a test for outlen = 3 around the snprintf..continue
block, with 'break' as the else.

(I'll leave this as minor since I've not looked to see how exploitable they
are.)

Sadly, I'm in the process of moving, and my Debian development machine will
soon be unpowered. I'll try and get it done this weekend, and then usb-key it
somewhere for sponsoring.

Bug#307744: gsl_min_fminimizer_set documents errors inconsistently

2005-05-05 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: libgsl0
Version: 1.6-2
Severity: normal

The documentation for gsl_min_fminimizer_set (one-dimensional minimisation)
says that it will return GSL_FAILURE if the interval given does not
contain a minimum.

One of my data sets appears to be triggering this error.

However, gsl_min_fminimizer_set returns 4 (GSL_EINVAL) instead of -1
(GSL_FAILURE). So if I check for status==GSL_FAILURE, I do not detect the
error.

The reason I know about the error is that the default gsl error handler
catches it, reporting:
gsl: fsolver.c:126: ERROR: endpoints do not enclose a minimum
Default GSL error handler invoked.
Aborted

I suppose the bug is just a documentation one. The docs needs to say that
gsl_min_fminimizer_set returns GSL_EINVAL, not GSL_FAILURE, when the
interval is bad (though I wonder why they do not use GSL_EDOM - bad input
domain - instead).

.TH UPDATE-MODULES 8 Herramientas Debian GNU/Linux DEBIAN
.SH NOMBRE
update\-modules \- (re)genera /etc/modules.conf y /etc/chandev.conf
.SH SINOPSIS
.B update\-modules
[force]
.SH DESCRIPCIÓN
.B update\-modules
es una herramienta simple para manejar
.IR /etc/modules.conf
y
.IR /etc/modules.conf.old
o
.IR /etc/chandev.conf.old .
.PP
.RS
.B *\e(\e.dpkg\-[a\-z]*\e|\.orig|,v|~\e)$
.RE
(p. ej. ficheros con la extensión
.IR .dpkg\-new ,
.IR .dpkg\-orig ,
.IR .dpkg\-dist ,
.IR .dpkg\-old ,
o aquellos cuyo nombre termine con
.IR ~ ).
.SH OPCIONES
.TP
.I force
.B update\-modules
comprueba si los ficheros
.I /etc/modules.conf y
.I /etc/chandev.conf
actuales son generados comprobando una marca especial en la primera línea. Si
esta marca no se encuentra se aborta la generación (con un código de salida
igual a 3). Si se proporciona
.I force
como parámetro, sólo se muestra un aviso.

I'm retitling to the bug to its original title, since in fact the info
manual is still affected. Jens Schmalzings patch from bug #275650 was
 incomplete and incorrect.

Ok.

  frozen.

 :-)

Doens't change a thing as regard to parted though, as it was frozen in
  august.

Ah. I guess it's part of d-i? I'm not familiar with d-i organization.

It is producing a .udeb, yes, and furthermore, it is part of base or standard.

Don't know, i didn't really had plans to do a new parted upload, but was
intenting to upload a experimental version with HFS+ journaling resize
support. Worked fine when i did so on sunday.

That's nice to hear (although it doesn't effect Sarge).

Who cares about sarge at this time :)

If you still feel burdened with higher-priority tasks, please say so and
I will try to make a patch happen, somehow. *sigh*

Please provide a patch. Or better speak with K.G. and make one happen
  upstream
  that i can backport.

Well, originally, the bug referred to the package description(s) for the
most part, so it was Debian specific... And I still don't know who's K.G.
:-) AFAICS Andrew Clausen is upstream, though seeking for a new
 maintainer.

K.G is the upstream author of the hfs resizing patch. Andrew Clausen is
searching an upstream replacement, and as far as i know, only myself proposed,
but i am not sure i am the right person, since i don't know how much time i
will be able to dvote to it.

However, I just checked out upstream parted 1.6.22, which merged the HFS+
patch, and diff'ed the docs against 1.6.21. It was pretty easy to
extract the changes to the documentation wrt HFS+. They are fully
appliciable to the HFS support of Debian's parted 1.6.21. So there's no
need to bother upstream. I've added fixes to the debian/control file
and README.Debian; please review the attached patch. It applies against
 the patched source.

Notice though that the upstream changes in documentation where done after i
suggested it to K.G after you submited the bug report, if i remember the
timing involved well.

Note that the patch excludes parted.info, which is part of the source
package for some reason, but should be (is?) an automatically generated
 file, of course.

Ok.

Better make things not perfect than not doing things at all.

Well, parted is frozen since forever, and the version in rc3 is the last
  one.

Hmm. A documentation-only upload should be possible, right?

Yep. But we will see. I will look at this this WE, and thanks for the patch.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#307638: gpm: upgrading from 1.19.6-12 to 1.19.6-19 mouse doesn't work in X

2005-05-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Eric Van Buggenhaut]
My mouse works perfectly both in console and under X with 1.19.6-12
but when I upgrade to 1.19.6-19, I can't move the pointer under
 X. Still it works perfectly in console and the pointer appears in X.

This is puzzling. Just to confirm: in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, in the
InputDevice section for Configured Mouse or similar - are you using
these settings?

Option Device /dev/gpmdata
Option Protocol Intellimouse

If not, please report what you *are* using there.

The other thing to check, if possible - did gpm 1.19.6-19 pick up your
/etc/gpm.conf settings and write them back correctly? It should have.
But if you happen to know that your gpm.conf has changed as part of the
upgrade, it would be good to get some details on that.

the fact that an dict attack to any box is going on is worthwile to

This can be changed in the module config in webmin but
I believe it would be better to change it in the

Bug#303533: how to solve this

2005-05-05 Thread martin f krafft
from private mail:
 #303533: CODA kernel version mismatch
 http://bugs.debian.org/303533
What I must do? Make a new package called davfs2-kernel2.4?

What's involved in making a 2.4-compatible package? What are the
differences between the two?

I am asking because I am trying to figure out what to do:

  1. provide two conflicting packages (bad).
  2. provide davfs2-kernel2.4, which diverts the necessary stuff
 in the davfs2 module (okay)
  3. make davfs2 install both and provide a wrapper which does the
appropriate thing according to the kernel version (preferred).

What do you think?

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

Please, for the next updates you make to this package templates,
consider warning translators before uploading the package and leave
them a delay for translation updates.

The podebconf-report-po utility which is in the po-debconf package
starting from its 0.8.15 version will do this job for you. See its man
page for details.

If you already did this, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

While I am not sure it's a good idea to expose the password in

to do so (single user system).

I completely approve of the dh_link solution.

Bug#307749: gettext-base: ligettextpo.so.0.1.0, in the wrong package?

2005-05-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: gettext-base
Version: 0.14.1-10
Severity: serious
Justification: incomplete dependencies
Tags: sid sarge

The package blender recently failed to build on hppa due to a strange
gettext-related error:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=blenderver=2.36-1arch=hppastamp=1115183059file=logas=raw

Tracking this down, it appears that /usr/lib/libgettextpo.so is contained in
the 'gettext' package, whereas /usr/lib/libgettextpo.so.0.1.0 is contained
in the 'gettext-base' package; and /usr/lib/libgettextsrc-0.14.x.so and
/usr/lib/libgettextlib-0.14.x.so are also contained in the 'gettext'
package. This means that:

- the library /usr/lib/libgettextpo.so.0.1.0 in gettext-base is not usable
without also installing the gettext package, yet there is no dependency
from gettext-base - gettext (and probably shouldn't be)
- such a dependency would need to be strictly versioned, because ABI changes
in libgettextsrc or libgettextlib break the runtime dependency (as
  happened here).

The right fix is probably to move all the libraries into a single package,
with an appropriate Replaces: line; I imagine gettext, rather than
gettext-base, is the right package, since no one's complained about
gettext-base being broken before now.

This bug affects both 0.14.1-10 in sarge and 0.14.4-1 in sid, and probably
needs to be fixed separately for each version on account of the freeze.

Thanks,

I have a samba server listening on port 1390. To use smbclient to connect to

Since upgrading to 3.0.14a-1, smbclient has started ignoring -p (or --port,

By quickly looking at 3.0.14a release notes:

* BUG 2588: Force smbclient to send netbios messages to port
139 unless otherwise instructed (based on patch from Thomas
  Bork).

The patch is listed in Jerry's list, hence CC'ing himI have no
idea whether that patch is related to the reported behaviour, but it
seems to be the only change which could have triggered it

(Jeremy CC'ed as well, just to nag him and show that Debian indeed
tries to poke with upstream..:-)))

Bug#263883: fluxbox: You told me to file this at Linux.conf.au :)

2005-05-05 Thread Chris McCormick
Package: fluxbox
Version: 0.9.12-1
Followup-For: Bug #263883

Hey Matt,

At some point fluxbox stopped supporting the old style tabbed behaviour.
It now only supports 'windows' style tab behaviour. I consider it a
bug that there is no configuration option available that I can set (for
example 'Mod1 Tab :NextWindow -1') which will allow me to return to the
old behaviour where tab just cycled plainly through the list of windows,
no hopping backwards or forwards, and alt-tab can be configured similarly
to cycle backwards.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Chris.

I originally thought, based on an early attempt with a probably buggy

hardware fixed again, and having found out recently that this assumption
was incorrect, I did a d-i testrun.

The good news is that it mostly works; only vmelilo-installer doesn't seem
to work for a non-obvious reason. After rebooting with tftplilo again (which
was used for booting the installer) with a root= parameter set, the
installation went along nicely.

I'm reviewing the installer logs right now, in an attempt to fix the issue.

gallery and amavis-stats put a symlink there to include their config

Modifying the apache config from phpmyadmin in such a way is just evil.
It can break other applications, and now I read about this, I know the
causes of some bugs on phpbb2 now too. apache2.conf is also a conffile:
only changed by admin, this behaviour would be serious then when done on
one's own conf files, but definitely grave or critical when done on
 other, more general packages.

Changing the default way of including in apache from one single web
application package just because you couldn't convince the apache
maintainers of your wishlist change, in a policy violating way, is...
 mindboggling.

I'm trying to make a workaround for broken apache2. I hope the debian-webapps
mailing lists will clarify such issues.

Bug#307415: phpmyadmin: remove old sym links in /etc/apache*/conf.d

I can see this problem with apache and apache2.

From which version did you upgrade? It works correctly for me, that means the

Bug#307706: m-tx: Can't fulfill the build dependencies in sarge

Hi,

On Wed, 2005-05-04 at 23:02 +0200, Adrian Bunk wrote:

Thanks for reporting this problem.

I decided to switch to p2c since the alternative (using free pascal)
doesn't produce quality binaries as I would expect (only statically
linked, no glibc utilization - potential kernel issues regarding free
kernel choice).

It's very unfortunate that p2c is currently in a bad shape but I guess
that another change in the build environment isn't right at that point
in the release process. If a fix to p2c/#305412 should make it into
sarge, everything's fine. Otherwise, I would need to propose m-tx to be
removed from the release.

Thanks.

AIUI, a patch for 305412 is available; feel free to NMU p2c to fix it, under
the current 0-day NMU policy. I would be willing to allow this
recently-removed package back into sarge to fix 307706 if someone is willing
to upload the fix.

Or, if you prefer, we can go ahead and remove m-tx from testing right now.

Bug#299814: Bug#300859: gnupg RC bugs

2005-05-05 Thread Werner Koch
On Wed, 04 May 2005 14:08:05 +, Brian M Carlson said:

 * Update to 1.4.1.

I'd really prefer that. 1.4.1 has been released more than 6 weeks ago
and fixes quite some bugs we figured out in 1.4.0. The case with
1.4.0 was that people don't care anymore about RC releases and start
complaining only after a real release; thus we expected 1.4.1 to be
released soon after 1.4.0 (it actually took more time but this should
be common to Debian folks ;-)

Important things fixed in 1.4.1:

* New --rfc2440-text option which controls how text is handled in
signatures. This is in response to some problems seen with
certain PGP/MIME mail clients and GnuPG version 1.4.0. More
details about this are available at
  http://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-users/2005-January/024408.html.

* When running a --card-status or --card-edit and a public key is
available, missing secret key stubs will be created on the fly.
Details of the key are listed too.

* Added countermeasures against the Mister/Zuccherato CFB attack
  http://eprint.iacr.org/2005/033.

 * Update to 1.2.8. This would either require an epoch, or it would

There is no 1.2.8

Bug#307521: ia32-libs: Patch to make 'ia32-libs' work again on amd64/sarge

2005-05-05 Thread Andreas Jochens
retitle 307521 ia32-libs: Broken on amd64 / Compilation with 'gcc-3.4 -m32'
does not work
tags 307521 +patch
thanks

I made some tests and finally found a small patch which makes ia32-libs
work again on amd64/sarge without any change to other packages, i.e.
without changing the 'gcc-3.4' package from sarge.

The attached patch does the following:

* Remove the (Build-)Depends on 'lsb-release' from debian/control.

* Change debian/rules, debian/ia32-libs.postinst and debian/ia32-libs/postrm
to use 'ROOT=' and 'SUFFIX=32' also for Debian amd64.

* Change debian/ia32-libs.postinst and debian/ia32-libs/postrm to create
and remove a symlink from /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 to
  /usr/lib32/libgcc_s.so.1.
This symlink is necessary for sarge because the lib32gcc1 package
  from gcc-3.4 installs libgcc_s.so.1 in /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib
instead of /usr/lib32. Once the gcc-3.4 package is corrected to
use /usr/lib32, this symlink can simply be dropped.

* Change a sed rule in debian/rules so that it does not remove the leading
'/' in the first commentary lines of libc.so and libpthread.so.

With this patch, it is possible to compile 32 bit binaries with 'gcc-3.4 -m32'
and to run those binaries.

If going back to the old working ia32-libs version 0.7 is not an option
for some reason, this small patch could be used to make ia32-libs work
again on amd64.

Regards
Andreas Jochens

Bug#304443: 7.0-2 works ok

2005-05-05 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: tea
Version: 7.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #304443

[ Lior, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=304443 ]
What exactly did you do with tea? I tried to run it from the build dir
and it worked fine.

Also, that's not a very popular way to run programs on debian.

The original problem was that apt-get install binary caused
segmentation fault. Next I tried to verify if that problem
was with the hand built (apt-get source) also. It worked ok.

please also test this with version 7.0-2. I suspect that might be
something regarding the locale settings. See
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=303420

Thank you. That fixed the problem.

p.s
I don't even have a .tea/tea_bmx file.

I didn't either (the ls(1) listing in my report), but the strace
wanted to read it (see original bug report)

   access(/home/foo/.tea/tea_bmx, F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)

Thanks for the fix.

Bug#306520: c3 fails to partition hard drive on amiga

2005-05-05 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
reassign 306520 parted
retitle 306520 'Loop detected at block 0' with AmigaOS disklabel
thanks

I made a second try on the same machine. I switched to the second
console and ran parted by hand. I was able to create a somewhat better
disklabel since I wouldn't spare 6Mb at the disk start and 5Mb at the
disk end. Still I got an error while creating the first partition:

_amiga_find_free_blocks : Loop detected at block 0.

When I later tried to format the partition I always got an error from
mkfs.ext3. I tried with a partition size of 512Mb, 1Gb, 5Gb, 6.4Gb.

Bye,
Giuseppe

However, when I wrote my apt-ftparchive.conf using this tag, I found

Bug#298020: parted: hfs(+) support is still poorly documented

It is producing a .udeb, yes, and furthermore, it is part of base or standard.

Ah, I darkly remember Joeyh being mad at you for a late parted upload.

Well, originally, the bug referred to the package description(s) for the
most part, so it was Debian specific... And I still don't know who's K.G.
:-) AFAICS Andrew Clausen is upstream, though seeking for a new

K.G is the upstream author of the hfs resizing patch.

Is this kind of a game? :-) But I got it, thanks.

Andrew Clausen is searching an upstream replacement, and as far as i
know, only myself proposed, but i am not sure i am the right person,
since i don't know how much time i will be able to dvote to it.

Oh, really! I'd think twice about that. :-)

Well, parted is frozen since forever, and the version in rc3 is the last
   one.

Hmm. A documentation-only upload should be possible, right?

Yep. But we will see. I will look at this this WE, and thanks for the patch.

Please think about contacting debian-boot and/or -release _before_ doing
so. No need to stir up the same mess again. :-)

I've prepared a second, cumulative patch, it's attached.
It removes the wrong claim that hfs volumes can be moved, updates a link
to libreiserfs, and introduces a short separate section about parted's
hfs support, derived from the docs included with Guillaume's patch.

Nikolaus

The ipsec* interfaces are only provided by the KLIPS IPSec stack.
Freeswan does not support 2.6 kernels, only openswan = 2.3.0 properly
supports them.

Also, can the package description and documentation be updated? It
says that it works with the standard kernels. Or, better yet, can
the kernel maintainers include support for them in the 2.6 series?
It will work, but without the virtual ipsec* interfaces. The native
IPSec stack is just a different means of integration.

Bug#302677: qmail: FTBFS: Missing Build-Depends on 'groff-base' and missing users and groups

2005-05-05 Thread Tomas Hoger
Hi!

I think it is an FTBFS bug. The following should generally work:

 apt-get source qmail
 cd qmail-*
 dpkg-buildpackage

For qmail, this does not work because of the missing Build-Depends on
groff-base and because of the missing users/groups.
Those are needed to create 'qmail-src'. It should be possible to
 build the 'qmail-src' package.

Yes, you're right. I missed one point: it's also FTBFS for qmail-src,
not only for qmail (and caused by qmail). My mistake!

Hopefully, someone will be able to upload new version soon.

Bug#307749: gettext-base: ligettextpo.so.0.1.0, in the wrong package?

2005-05-05 Thread Santiago Vila
On Thu, 5 May 2005, Steve Langasek wrote:

 Package: gettext-base
 Version: 0.14.1-10
 Severity: serious
 Justification: incomplete dependencies
 Tags: sid sarge

The package blender recently failed to build on hppa due to a strange
 gettext-related error:
 http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=blenderver=2.36-1arch=hppastamp=1115183059file=logas=raw

Tracking this down, it appears that /usr/lib/libgettextpo.so is contained in
the 'gettext' package, whereas /usr/lib/libgettextpo.so.0.1.0 is contained
in the 'gettext-base' package; and /usr/lib/libgettextsrc-0.14.x.so and
/usr/lib/libgettextlib-0.14.x.so are also contained in the 'gettext'
 package.

[ Big Oops! ]

I mostly agree. libgettextpo should be in gettext, not in gettext-base.
Actually, this is what the PACKAGING document in the source recommends.

[ By all the libraries I suppose you mean libgettextpo*, as
libasprintf should still be kept in gettext-base ].

This bug affects both 0.14.1-10 in sarge and 0.14.4-1 in sid, and probably
needs to be fixed separately for each version on account of the freeze.

Actually, I was going to ask for 0.14.4-1 to be included in testing,
as it does not contain any changes from 0.14.1-10 which are unsuitable
for testing. There are several reasons why I would like to see 0.14.x
in testing:

* It is still a 0.14.x release (no major changes).

* It contains the upstream Solomonic bug fix for the gettext.sh issue.
In 0.14.2 and later, gettext.sh is both an executable shell script
(honoring --help and --version) and a shell library function and it's
not in /usr/share/gettext anymore. I would really dislike shipping
/usr/share/gettext/gettext.sh in a stable release, as that would make
people to believe that it's ok to hardcode it.

* Lot of files have relaxed licensing terms.

* The Debian diff is clean again. No autoconf/automake junk added to the diff.
This will surely make life easier to everybody if there is a need to upload
it again to fix security bugs, for example.

So: Could I please fix this in unstable and ask release managers (i.e. you :-)
to propagate to testing afterwards?

No, it didn't. More specifically, it added 2 lines:

Hi Sven,

please note that while the first patch to the parted docs simply was a
backport of the upstream docs (plus some Debian specific fixes), the

Thanks for the update.

Unfortunately it was done after the sarge version, when the unstable version
has a minor difference, please look for

in the attached file.

I have also modified a couple of entries in your po file where ${xxspell}
is expected instead of plain ispell, because I expect to use them in the
post-sarge for aspell-autobuildhash. There was also a minor change in
unstable, some extra trailing whitespaces were removed and that made (in
a harmless way) fuzzy a number of entries when building the package. I
have unfuzzied them, but please check that I did not unfuzzy more than
I should.

All the above is committed to our CVS, and I wait for your reply. I
cannot make sure it will go into sarge, along with the pending final
changes, but I will try as soon as the last uploaded version enters
sarge after being accepted by the release team.

I am attaching the ru.po file as is currently in our CVS.

Bug#307275: phpmyadmin: upgrade breaks included conffiles from other packages

2005-05-05 Thread Adam Conrad
If debian-webapps ever clarifies that mucking with conffiles from other
packages is a good thing (and, furthermore, mucking with apache2's
conffile to make YOUR package work better, while completely breaking a
bunch of others!), then there's something seriously wrong, since it's both
a really bad idea, and completely violates policy.

The correct fix (fixing apache2 to not include .dpkg-* files) will be
uploaded tomorrow morning. You, however, now have a mess of your own
creation to fix, since you've broken several people's configs (yes, there
are a bunch of packages that drop files in apache2/conf.d without a
.conf extension, and they are NOT buggy for doing so, despite the fact
that you decided they all should be). Have fun.

... Adam

Bug#307638: gpm: upgrading from 1.19.6-12 to 1.19.6-19 mouse doesn't work in X

2005-05-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

Thanks for the quick response.

[Eric Van Buggenhaut]
 Option Protocol auto
 Option ZAxisMapping 4 5
 Option Device /dev/psaux

Aha.

Your configuration is difficult to support properly, and probably
results in a short delay when switching between X and console, since
doing so involves reinitialising the mouse. That's because, with both
gpm and X having direct control of the mouse, they defensively have to
make sure the mouse is in a known state, every time. This approach
does work, modulo bugs in XFree86 or gpm; I've just never been
comfortable with it.

The other thing to check, if possible - did gpm 1.19.6-19 pick up your
/etc/gpm.conf settings and write them back correctly?

No, it didn't. More specifically, it added 2 lines:

 repeat_type=ms3
 append=''

Yeah, repeat_type is the culprit. The upgrade noticed that it was not
set, so it used the default. In your case you're relying on gpm's
behavior when the repeater is disabled.

Fix / workaround:

  repeat_type=none

You can either edit gpm.conf directly, or via 'dpkg-reconfigure gpm'.
Please let us know whether this fixes your problem. (repeat_type=''
would work too, but that would cause the same problem on the next
upgrade, until we figure out the right way to handle this case.)

Incidentally, the other workaround is to boot any kernel 2.6, whose
input layer prevents this type of problem from occurring in the first
place, by virtualising /dev/psaux entirely. If you do that, you'll
need to ensure that the 'mousedev' and 'psmouse' kernel modules get
loaded.

Thanks again,
Peter

[Eric Van Buggenhaut]
If I use /dev/gpmdata the pointer is frozen on the screen, I can't
 move it around.

That's odd. You *did* try it with XFree86 protocol Intellimouse?
This is normally pretty foolproof if you have gpm running with
repeat_type=ms3.

If I use /dev/psaux and Intellimouse the pointer moves all around the
 screen like crazy

That's expected. Intellimouse is not the mouse's real protocol.
It's the simulated protocol used by the GPM repeater, the protocol
known as ms3 in the GPM world. The mouse's real protocol, other than
auto, is ExplorerPS/2 or ImPS/2 (probably either one will work).

Bug#203284: (no subject)

2005-05-05 Thread Georg Baum
This bug is reproducible and known upstream. It is partly fixed in 1.3.5
and completely in the upcoming 1.4cvs. See

Bug#298020: [Parted-maintainers] Bug#298020: parted: patch handling

 Hi Sven,

please note that while the first patch to the parted docs simply was a
backport of the upstream docs (plus some Debian specific fixes), the
second, incremental patch is my own fruit, deviating from upstream.

Nikolaus, why you don't just become a member of the parted alioth project, and
check this stuff in there ?

Also, please make sure you propose your stuff to Guillaume if you feel it is
worth of upstream development.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#307722: ntop: tries to load libgd.so instead of libgd.so.2

2005-05-05 Thread Ola Lundqvist

Hello

On Thu, May 05, 2005 at 01:49:16AM +0200, Marek Michalkiewicz wrote:

 /usr/lib/libgd.so.2 is part of libgd2-xpm
/usr/lib/libgd.so (symlink to libgd.so.2) is part of libgd2-xpm-dev

The interesting thing is that if you run ldd on /usr/sbin/ntop you
will notice that it have the following line in it:
libgd.so.2 = /usr/lib/libgd.so.2 (0xb7b34000)

No reference to that file.

libgd2-xpm-dev depends on other X development libraries, which are
quite big and not really necessary for just running ntop.

 ntop already Depends: libgd2-noxpm (= 2.0.33) | libgd2-xpm (= 2.0.33)
so additional run time checks for libgd (and warnings when development
libraries are not installed) should not be necessary.

Do I do not really understand this. Or is it ntop itself that do this
check maybe. I have arways thought that it was ld ... I'll check that
out now.

Aha! Here we have something.

globals-defines.h:#define CONST_LIBGD_SO libgd.so

Maybe that can be changed to libgd.so.2 ...

I'll cc the ntop development list for advice on this matter.

That's odd. You *did* try it with XFree86 protocol Intellimouse?
This is normally pretty foolproof if you have gpm running with
 repeat_type=ms3.

OK. I have to use repeat_type=ms3 + /dev/gpmdata + Intellimouse

and the pointer works both in console + X both 1.19.6-12 and 1.19.6-19

I guess this closes the bug ?

Bug#307766: psi: No documentation

2005-05-05 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: psi
Version: 0.9.3-1
Severity: normal

There is no documentation included or available in a separated package
for Psi. The user has to guess how it works.

The biggest deficiency in our free operating systems is not in the
software -- it is the lack of good free manuals that we can include in
our systems. Documentation is an essential part of any software
package; when an important free software package does not come with a
good free manual, that is a major gap. We have many such gaps today.

Bug#307638: gpm: upgrading from 1.19.6-12 to 1.19.6-19 mouse doesn't work in X

2005-05-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Eric Van Buggenhaut]
 OK. I have to use repeat_type=ms3 + /dev/gpmdata + Intellimouse

and the pointer works both in console + X both 1.19.6-12 and 1.19.6-19

Great!

I'd still like to know whether your original configuration (/dev/psaux,
protocol auto) works with repeat_type=none. It should work. And
that will confirm my analysis of the bug.

I guess this closes the bug ?

Almost. (: The upgrade should have preserved your empty repeat_type -
I should have remembered earlier that this changes the behavior of gpm
in an incompatible way. So we still have an upgrade bug, even though
you've fixed it for yourself. I'll fix it properly for our next
upload.

Thanks,
Peter

Bug#307413: mirror: malfunction after a failure

On Tue, May 03, 2005 at 11:13:37AM +1000, Ian Maclaine-cross wrote:
Thanks for this bug report. Do you have a simplified
 example of the bug?

Unfortunately, this is the simplest form of the bug manifesting itself.
The bug is 100% reproducible, but it's difficult to do since network
connections fail semi-randomly. I could try to elaborate a step-by-step
algorithm to reproduce the bug, simulating timeouts via blocking the
data connections with iptables; would this help?

Meanwhile, I've tested the version from stable. It doesn't try to
recover after an error, so the problem could be introduced when the
respective functionality was added. OTOH, the version from stable also
misloaded one large file, albeit not reproducibly, and the symptoms do
not fit the pattern of downloading file_names[i] and saving it as
file_names[i + 1].

With kind regards,
Baurzhan.

Bug#307258: Components.idl missing

2005-05-05 Thread Thomas Girard
Stefan Strasser a écrit :
Package: libciao-dev
Version: 5.4.2.1.0-3
Severity: grave
Components.idl is not provided with this package which renders it useless
because it is included in any cidl file.
Please see
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-ace-devel/2005-May/000485.html
and more specifically for the fix:
http://einstein.speech-design.de/webtools/cvs/debian/package/ace/debian/libciao-dev.install?r1=1.1r2=1.2

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#306621: 306621 is RC.

2005-05-05 Thread Sven Luther
severity 306621 grave
thanks

Eric, this makes the package uninstallable and unremovable, so i am upping the
severity.

I had two problems with it, it tried to do stuff with /var/cache/approx, while
i had it configured in my approx.conf to use another dir, and removing failed
because of the missing approx user.

Also, i am wondering if we could not simply reuse the /var/cache/apt archive.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#306258: libnss-ldap libpam-ldap need to be linked against same lib

Just following up for those playing along at home. libnss-ldap and
libpam-ldap need to be linked against the same ldap (either 'ldap' or
'ldap_r'). I thought I had done this for both, but apparently not.
Linking against ldap_r fixed an issue in nss-ldap previously, so my
intent is to change libpam-ldap to also link against ldap_r (like
libnss-ldap). I hope to upload a fixed package this evening.

Was this fixed in 178-1 ?

Bug#276103: kcdlabel: crash on save

Since it does not happen here, with tonight's sid, I am downgrading to
normal for now, and tagging. Let me know if you can dig out any
additional information that may be pertinent. I woul dsuggest
rebuilding the package with debugging symbols enabled, except that all
of the libraries installed will also be stripped, so it will be largely
 useless.

FWIW, I can fully reproduce both SEGV mentioned in this bug report.
Any hints for where to start digging into this?
