Bug#351342: cacti: Changing graph Title field under Graph Management makes graph item invalid.

2006-02-04 Thread Jesse Molina
Package: cacti
Version: 0.8.6h-2
Severity: normal

Hi

I have a Linksys managed switch (SRW2016) being polled by Cacti. The
switch provides port descriptions under IF-MIB::ifAlias, and I wanted to
change my graph titles to display the new descriptions that I had added
to the switch.

I am using the SNMP - Interface Statistics Data Query, In/Out Bits
template.

I did something similar to this on another non-Debian installation some
six months or more back and it went okay.

I opened up a Traffic graph from Graph Management and changed the graph
Title field from the original |host_description| - Traffic -
|query_ifName| to |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| -
|query_ifAlias|. After saving the graph item, it went to all heck.

This particular graph item now isn't shown under Graph Management any
more when I display graphs for this host.

There is an error message worthy of note on the fubared Graph Management
Page. Under Graph Configuration, Image Format it says Notice:
Undefined index: in /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_form.php on line 154

I put screenshots of both a good graph item and the new bad graph item
here;

http://www.opendreams.net/jesse/temp/bugz/

I'm not sure if the DB is messed up or what is going on. I'll look at
it tomorrow when I'm less tired.

This is not on a critical system, so I can fool around with it a bit if
need be. I'll go poke the DB tomorrow and see if the entire graph item
is messed up or if just changing the title item back to what it was
before will fix it.

I have not yet checked upstream for known bugs. I'll go look tomorrow.

I would appreciate it if someone would attempt to reproduce;

1.) Create a new device and add the SNMP - Interface Statistics Data
Query. (use an existing device, but give it a new Description).

2.) Graph at least two Interfaces with Interface - Traffic (bits/sec).

3.) Use Graph Management to change the Title field from it's original to
anything at all.

4.) BoGO!

Bug#351345: ddclient: updates IP using 169.x.x.x address instead of true address

2006-02-04 Thread Basil Crow
Package: ddclient
Version: 3.6.2-6
Severity: important

Using ip addr show shows my real IP address under global scope
instead of local scope. However, ifconfig shows a 169.x.x.x
address -- a curiosity because I have a public IP, and I can find my
real IP address by going to a site like http://checkip.dyndns.org/.
Maybe having avahi-daemon installed and running confuses ifconfig, but
either way, ddclient still tries to update my DynDNS account with a
169.x.x.x address instead of my true external address on eth0.

Bug#345080: [INTL:ka] Adding Georgian PSF font

2006-02-04 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Aiet Kolkhi ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Hello,

do we have any progress on this bug?

Is there anything I could do to assist?

Not that much. As I'm not the official maintainer of console-data, I
did not want to do anything about it up to now

So, even though I NMU'ed the package twice, I did not include the
font.

However, this is blocking any support for Georgian so I will consider
fixing this in a further NMU.

I'm however waiting for the current version to enter testing before
rebuilding console-data again to fix bugs with patch set and an
obvious solution...just like this one.

On the other hand, Aiet, I'm waiting for information by you about
the step 7 of the D-I New Language Process:

Hmmm, nothing in #350050 does tell that this RC bug should be ignored
in some way so I find pretty logical that the package does not enter
testing.

However: is this bug really RC?

All these python things are mostly unknown stuff to me but does this
really makes the package in question unusableor are there only
*parts* of the package that are broken, which means that the bug is
indeed important and not grave.

Don't use 2.0.8 if you use postgres. I'll release 2.0.9 this weekend which fixes
a critical regression in the postgres driver. And don't use 2.1.3 since it's
just broken in more than one respect. I expect to be able to release 2.1.4 in
the next week or two. That will be the first release with (some) sieve support,
and a new and fully compliant search/sort implementation.

However, the debianized version is at 1.2.11.

The upstream versions have enhanced functionality that
I need. Any chance of a debian update in the near future?

Yes. But meanwhile you may want to use

deb http://debian.nfgd.net/debian (stable|unstable|experimental) main

The stable/unstable sections contain packages for dbmail-2.0, whereas the
experimental section contains the packages for dbmail-2.1. All packages there
are based on svn snapshots that are more stable than the release versions.

to build those and blocks mysql-dfsg-5.0 from entering testing.

Ordinarily when you stop building binary packages, they're
semi-automatically removed by the archive scripts when the packages no
longer exist in unstable. The problem in this case is that
mysql-{client,server}-4.1 *are* still built by a source package in
unstable - namely mysql-dfsg-4.1 - so the 5.0.18-1 binaries need to be
removed.

Bug#351347: Cannot edit key properties (uids) when seahorse is started from Gnome menu

2006-02-04 Thread Daniel R.
Package: seahorse
Version: 0.8.0-1
Severity: important

When seahorse is started from the Gnome applications menu, it does not allow
you to edit your private key information (setting as primary/adding/removing
uids).

However, when started from gnome console, with the command: seahorse,
seahorse shows the passphrase input window when attempting to edit the key.
After entering your key's passphrase, the program correctly performs the
modification in this case.

I also can modify my key from gpg directly (also in console).

Bug#350762: hal 0.5.6-2 still broken

2006-02-04 Thread Fabio Rosciano

I'd like to confirm that hal 0.5.6-2 doesn't handle mounting properly.

I started hald like this:

# hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes

and plugging in a USB thumbdrive (/dev/sdc as I have two SATA drives)
does not trigger *any* events.

The device is correctly created by udev:

nostromo:~# ls -l /dev/ | grep sdc
brw-rw 1 root floppy8, 32 2006-02-04 10:12 sdc
brw-rw 1 root floppy8, 33 2006-02-04 10:12 sdc1

And /dev/sdc1 is mountable by hand.

Could somebody please explain again the $env{SUBSYSTEM} hack?
I haven't really found where to add that thing.

Debian Sid on AMD64, hal 0.5.6-2 and udev 0.084-1.
Thanks.

I am still not convinced this is really needed but I'll apply it anyway.

The attached patch uses dpatch, so you must add it to the dependencies.

Was already done as you reported the bug against a old version ;-)
  # prep-deb-files from module-assistant creates the neccessary debian/ files

Not needed. The patches are in -source already pre-applied.

The Debian-specific patch that allowed compface(1) to read XBM images
got lost between 1989.11.11-24 and 1:1.5.2-1. (Upstream patched the
new version to write XBMs, but not to read them.) The one-line patch
in 1:1.5.2-2 worked around a symptom of this rather than the problem
 itself.

The following patch restores support for reading XBMs, and reverses
the 1:1.5.2-2 change (which is causing spurious warnings for correct
files). I can NMU if necessary.

Bug#351351: laptop-mode-tools: laptop-mode init fails when second battery not present

2006-02-04 Thread hoelle
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.22-1
Severity: normal

/usr/sbin/laptop_mode fails, when laptop has two battery slots and only
one is present.

A start results in the following error messages:
Enabling laptop mode: remaining capacity: 1905 mAh
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 612: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 615: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 618: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 621: [: : integer expression expected

Looks like the variable $REMAINING is not set correctly in line 592 when
checking /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/.

A fix might be checking /proc/acpi/battery/BATx/info before doing any
further operation. On the other hand when multiple batteries are present
the value of REMAINING should contain the sum of all batteries when
determing other actions depending on that (?).

Best regards,
Frank

Hi Herbert, I can confirm this. '\201' is used as CTLESC, and removed
on expansion it seems. Sorry, I don't have a patch to suggest this
time.

Thanks for the report, Torsten.

Regards, Gerrit.

I encountered the problem, when a script failed which worked on file
 names containing the special character:

 $ touch `printf xxx\201`
 $ ls xxx*
 xxx?
 $ set xxx*
 $ ls $1
ls: xxx: No such file or directory
 $ ls $@
ls: xxx: No such file or directory

With bash there is no problem, so I wonder if this is a dash bug.

Maybe, but usually ddclient queries your local system for your IP.
I do not know how ddclient queries the local IP, I'll have to
check. Please send me the output of ip addr show and of ifconfig.

Maybe having avahi-daemon installed and running confuses ifconfig, but
either way, ddclient still tries to update my DynDNS account with a

Let's find out why...

On my System, I have tried all debconf questions the installation is fine.
So it was a error on your system, perhaps you have a broken apt-get or

Therefor I set severity to normal, because it works.

Bug#351351: laptop-mode-tools: laptop-mode init fails when second battery not present

2006-02-04 Thread Bart Samwel

hoelle wrote:

/usr/sbin/laptop_mode fails, when laptop has two battery slots and only
one is present.

Interesting. I've never actually seen such a situation, so I wasn't
aware that a non-inserted battery would actually show up as an entry in
/proc/acpi/battery/.

A start results in the following error messages:
Enabling laptop mode: remaining capacity: 1905 mAh
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 612: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 615: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 618: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode: line 621: [: : integer expression expected

Looks like the variable $REMAINING is not set correctly in line 592 when
checking /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/.

Hmmm, apparently an absent battery has no remaining capacity line,
while it does have an info entry.

A fix might be checking /proc/acpi/battery/BATx/info before doing any
further operation.

Could you send me the contents of your /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info when
the battery is present and when it is not present? Then I can add a
check. The reason I'm asking is that I don't currently have a laptop
available to check this on. :-/

On the other hand when multiple batteries are present
the value of REMAINING should contain the sum of all batteries when
determing other actions depending on that (?).

Well, it's possible, but:

* What if you have one battery that reports in MWH and another that
reports in MAH? (Someone else submitted conversion logic earlier, but
that requires that the battery correctly reports its current voltage,
and I don't trust them to always do that properly.)

* Also, there might be voltage problems. During the last minutes the
output voltage of a battery may drop significantly, and I expect that
some devices may not like that (especially when there's suddenly a large
power draw, e.g. when shutting down or hibernating).

( Batteries may lack some precision as well, so 2 times 2 minutes of
charge (with error 1) is in the range 2-6 minutes, while 1 times 4
mintutes of charge with error 1 is in the range 3-5 minutes.

Those are all reasons why I am reluctant to regard two batteries with 2
minutes of charge as the same as one battery with 4 minutes of charge.
Basically it boils down to I don't trust them. :-)

Bug#351358: kdevelop3: Fail to build 'simple Hello World' project : libtool enter in infinite loop and eat all memory

2006-02-04 Thread Cédric
Package: kdevelop3
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Severity: important

when I try to compile a simple 'Hello World' project, KDevelop enter
in a infinite loop (100% cpu) and eat all memory and swap.
The problem occur when it run /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link g++ -O0

And in fact, if I run this command in a console, the same problem occur.
I try to use the libtool scrip provided by libtool packege in /usr/bin :
/bin/sh /usr/bin/libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link g++ -O0 -g3 -o hello hello.o
and it build and run without problem, so I guess libtool provided with

Yes, britney does not understand BTS version tags yet. Instead, I added a

after next dinstall before uploading 3.0.21b, 3.0.21a-4 should get into

Hmmm, nothing in #350050 does tell that this RC bug should be ignored
 in some way

The version tags on the bug should say this; it's a bug in britney that this
isn't taken into consideration when moving packages to testing. Please bug
the release team when this happens, rather than trying to fiddle with the
bug to make britney happy...

However: is this bug really RC?

All these python things are mostly unknown stuff to me but does this
really makes the package in question unusableor are there only
*parts* of the package that are broken, which means that the bug is
 indeed important and not grave.

Bug#351259: firefox: Large and ugly fonts with pages using non-western encoding

2006-02-04 Thread Vincent Lefevre
On 2006-02-04 06:30:27 +0100, Mike Hommey wrote:
Actually, it's the contrary. You must have a font that provides latin
 character set and chinese characters.

I think I have one (a bitmap font, for xterm). This would explain the
problem.

The way it works is pretty simple, based on the character set from the
page (GB2312), it chooses the chinese simplified font set in firefox
preference, which, by default, uses the generic serif, sans-seric and
monotype fonts. When displaying, it says to fontconfig that the text is
to display with the serif, sans-serif or monotone font, and the chinese
 language.

IMHO, it would be better to look at the actual characters instead of
the encoding. The encoding doesn't have much meaning (one can even
use an US-ASCII encoding for any language, thanks to entities), and
AFAIK, the specifications from the W3C never say that the encoding
has any meaning concerning the language. And in particular, the
encoding is something global to the page, whereas the language (or
the script) is local.

Moreover, the browser should have been able to use different fonts
on the page. For instance, what if a Chinese author write an English
text, then his name with Chinese characters? Choosing GB2312 would
be a natural choice.

Then, fontconfig, knowing it's chinese, tries to find the fittest font
for the generic name, which means it will look first at chinese fonts,
and will pick the first one it finds that contain the latin character
set, which they are, for most of them, providing.

Again, I think that it is a bad choice. One should consider that
fonts can be displayed under different conditions. For instance,
a bitmap font is OK for an xterm, but not for Firefox.

Anyways, it's not firefox's fault if the author of the web page is
dumb and said the page is in GB2312 charset while it is basic ASCII
and if CJK fonts usually include ugly latin characters.

I completely disagree: see above. And anyway, GB2312 is *correct* even
when there isn't a good reason to use it. On the contrary, Firefox is
dumb since it looks at the encoding instead of the actual characters
(after resolving entities).

The only thing one could say concerning the author is that he should
have provided the language (with the lang or xml:lang attribute).
But one should note that it is not always easily possible, e.g. when
the document comes from an external source where the language isn't
provided and it has been processed automatically.

Moreover, after some thoughts, choosing the font based on the declared
language would also be incorrect. Indeed, one may write a Chinese or
Japanese person name with western characters, e.g.

p xml:lang=ensome English text span xml:lang=jaIshii/span/p

All this text should be displayed with the best font providing ASCII.

You have several options to work around this :
 - say firefox the page is in a latin language (view - encoding menu),
which will be fine, since the charset is ASCII,

This is not acceptable as a general workaround.

 - find the chinese font you have on your system that provides those
characters you don't want to see and uninstall it.

Instead of uninstalling it (I'd like to keep it for text terminals),
there should be a way to disable this font for Firefox.

 - change the chinese font settings in the preferences to use a given
font instead of the generic ones.

Yes, choosing Bitstream Vera seems to be OK, and it seems to provide
Japanese characters (I haven't tried Chinese). But isn't this something
that should be done at the fontconfig level (so that any application
would benefit)?

Also, I've noticed that when I look at results returned by Google
(e.g. for sharp), I get nice fonts (both western and Japanese),
but when I look at the page that uses ISO-2022-JP, I get an ugly
(bitmap?) monospace font. There's something wrong in the font
selection!

Ditto for Chinese characters (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China
looks OK for both western and Chinese characters).

In both cases, the encoding is Unicode. I wonder why Firefox doesn't
use a Unicode font for everything!

BTW, is there any way to know what request Firefox did to fontconfig
for some part of text?

Bug#351361: locally-deleted conffile gives miselading prompt

2006-02-04 Thread Ian Jackson
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.13.12
Tags: patch

If you locally delete a conffile which the package maintainer then
ships a new version of, you get this message:

Configuration file `/etc/gnome/config/Emacs.ad'
== Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
== Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** Emacs.ad (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

It's rather strange to say that the file was `modified' when in fact
it was deleted. Also, if you say `y' you also get a warning like
this:

dpkg: capplets-data: warning - failed to link `/etc/gnome/config/Emacs.ad' to
`/etc/gnome/config/Emacs.ad.dpkg-old': No such file or directory

The enclosed patch produces this message instead:

Configuration file `/etc/gnome/config/Emacs.ad'
== Deleted (by you or by a script) since installation.

Only the first line is different, but this seems sufficiently clear.

Also, the patch suppresses the attempt to make a backup copy of the
nonexistent original file.

FYI, I'm about to include this patch in my next dpkg upload for Ubuntu.

Ian.

Bug#350518: Auto-hibernation fails if AUTO_HIBERNATION_BATTERY_* MINIMUM_BATTERY_*

2006-02-04 Thread Bart Samwel

Hi there,

Sorry about the late response, this message fell through the cracks of
my e-mail filtering system.

I understand the problems, I'll fix them in the upcoming release.

--Bart

EspeonEefi wrote:

When the battery charge slips below MINIMUM_BATTERY_*, laptop_mode will
try to proceed with ACTIVATE_WITH_POSSIBLE_DATA_LOSS=0. This results in
the else branch starting at line 916 being taken, and
/proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode being set to 0 at line 920.

Once this happens, all subsequent battery events will have their calls
to laptop_mode quashed, since /etc/acpi/actions/lm_battery.sh calls
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode only if /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode is greater than
0.

Thus, as long as there is a battery event after the battery's passing
MINIMUM_BATTERY_* levels and before the battery's reaching
AUTO_HIBERNATION_BATTERY_* levels, laptop_mode will be disabled until
either the battery runs out or an AC adaptor is plugged in and the
battery restored to a state with more charge than MINIMUM_BATTERY_*.
Thus, the new auto-hibernation functionality of laptop-mode-tools will
never be called.

I suggest an option to put in your ssh config to ignore certain

Package: dcraw

fujiturn.c can be downloaded from the same page as dcraw.c itself. It is
made by the same author. This program is useful with some Fuji Super CCD
sensors, to get bigger (unscaled) resolution images because of special
photodiode arrangement in this cameras.

It can be compiled to produce 2 different executable files, for 8 bit and
16 bit colors per channel:

 gcc -Wall -o fujiturn fujiturn.c
 gcc -Wall -D_16BIT -include arpa/inet.h -o fujiturn16 fujiturn.c

There are 2 other additional programs: fuji_green.c, clean_crw.c
Although I do not use this 2 programs, I think other people may find
helpful to have them included in the package.

The problem was :

Two network interfaces were detected where there is only one onboard.
Then the DHCP configuration doesn't detect anything, so it's impossible
to download the Releases file on the next step. I tryed to fill manually
the IP/netmask/gateway/etc and it's the same. I found at least one
person who had the same problem :

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=792214postcount=212

It's strange as I didn't have this problem with the netboot CD for
AMD64. Two interfaces were found too, but the configuration was
successfully detected by DHCP and the rest of the installation was OK.

Somebody said me that the second network interface was the firewire, but
I still can't use the network. Did I something wrong or is it an
installer bug ?

Thanks.

2006-02-04 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Package: libnewt0.51
Version: 0.51.6-31
Severity: normal

Dear Alistair,

This is pretty much a sequel to #290722, so please see there for the
long version of what I'm doing. The short version is that mondoarchive
which is in package mondo gives (one line):

if libfribidi0 is not installed. mondoarchive is linked against libnewt
but not libfribidi:

I am not sure why this would fail given that it is properly malloc'd and
that I can't see it being freed before. Sorry for not being more
constructive, I've played around with the code somewhat but don't really
know what's going on here.

If I install package libfribidi0 all is well and the error goes away. So, my
(unqualified) conclusion would be that there is an issue with the
opportunistic usage of libfribidi0 in libnewt0.51.

I report this from an amd64 installation but have found the same
behaviour on i386 as well.

It would be great if you could muster the time to look into this. If
there is any other piece of information you need, please let me know.

Best regards thanks a lot,
Andree

Bug#351368: drscheme takes ages to start, runs slow and throw an error

2006-02-04 Thread Jochen Schulz
Package: drscheme
Version: 1:301-2
Severity: normal

Hi!

I am sorry for such a vague bug report, but since the update from 209 to
301 DrScheme suffers from severe performance problems. I haven't
measured startup times from the old version, but 301 takes about three
minutes to start. That's six times more time than Eclipse needs on the
same machine. ;-) The few programs that I have run comparably slow, too.

Additionally, I get this error on the console on every start of
drscheme:

Warning: ProfessorJ needs to be able to modify files in
 /usr/lib/plt/collects/profj/libs/java/lang in order to run
correctlyWarning: ProfessorJ needs to be able to modify files in

The console message is accompanied by a dialog with this message:

Required file Throwable.java, for class or interface Throwable, not
found

I already moved my ~/.mzschemerc out of the way (don't know whether it
is read by drscheme at all) and tried to purge and reinstall mzscheme
and drscheme, but the symptoms prevail.

The current version of dvipdfmx supports separate map files.
If you need to add some font to dvipdfmx, make the separate map file and
then put the name of the fontmap file to /etc/texmf/dvipdfmx.cfg file.

hi jesse,

please do follow up if you find anything funny with the mysql
db. additionally you might try changing your php error logging
settings to see if you can find anything else suspicious.

i would highly recommend opening the issue with upstream in their
BTS as well. they are much more familiar with the code (since
they wrote it, heh), but also i'm very busy with some of my
other projects and won't have the time to spend an extensive
amount of effort on this bug.

however, please continue to cc this bug address with any
pertininent info, as others will likely come across it if
they have the same problem. when the issue is opened
with upstream i can tag it upstream as well.

Bug#337516: synfig: 337516: time to upload

2006-02-04 Thread Paul Wise
Hias,

Got my email back, yay!

Solved the libsynfig non-PIC problem by using AC_LIBLTDL_INSTALLABLE
instead of AC_LIBLTDL_CONVENIENCE (committed upstream and in
pkg-synfig), which uses the system ltdl instead of the embedded one.

I've disabled the libavcodec plugin for now since upstream's autoconf
bits for it are quite broken (in config.log there are unresolved symbols
when doing the test for it).

Also removed a couple of build-depends because 3 of the plugins are
using popen to call binaries instead of linking with libraries. Anyways,
for more details, see the SVN logs.

So, can someone please run ./bootstrap to update the autotools stuff
(needed for the change to AC_LIBLTDL_INSTALLABLE) and then upload synfig
to debian sid?

Bug#351370: kernel-package: make-kpkg does not include Makefile.cpu in kernel-headers when building 2.6.15.2 kernel

2006-02-04 Thread Daniel R.
Package: kernel-package
Version: 9.008.4
Severity: normal

When building .deb packages for 2.6.15.2 kernel, using make-kpkg with
buildpackage target, the resulting kernel-headers package does not
include the file: ./kernel-headers-2.6.15.2XX/arch/i386/Makefile.cpu
I have not tested other targets apart from buildpackage.

This makes the resulting kernel-headers package almost unusable. For
example, the Makefile.cpu file is needed to compile NVidia drivers.

This file (Makefile.cpu) is however included in the also produced
kernel-source package.

I am using kernel-package version included in debian testing (Etch).

This is not the version of imagemagick in either unstable or current
testing, where miff.4 (and quantize.5) are no longer present. As
graphicsmagick was only just introduced, there shouldn't be any upgrade
issues from sarge to etch, either, so I don't think this bug is release
  critical.

Sorry, it is. Partial upgrades from sarge to etch must be supported,
including installing new packages from etch on a sarge system.

Anyway, I'll add a conflict with the sarge version to facilitate
  backports.

A simple Replaces: would probably be better for the upgrade path.

To clarify: You want us to support having imagemagick from sarge
installed + pulling in graphicsmagick from etch, but pulling
graphicsmagick from etch + later installing imagemagick from sarge is
intentionally left broken? For now I've added the Replaces, but I think
that's a half-baked solution.

Daniel.

Bug#351359: libagg-dev: pkg-config --libs return -lagg which is not built with -fPIC and fail to link on amd64 arch.

Hi,

The problem here is that when you want to link agg into a lib/app which
is static you don't want -lagg_pic but -lagg.

No, it should not return -lagg_pic on specific architectures (!i386 to
be precise) IMHO. But I'll think of it.

Why don't you just spcify -lagg_pic when you know it is needed?
(Debian-only addition, though, -lagg_pic doesn't exixt upstream, it's
built in Debian because I know it's needed on !i386, e.g. for OOo, but
I already patched OOo to use -lagg_pic)

Bug#180634: Debian Kolab packages

2006-02-04 Thread Noèl Köthe
Hello,

we are happy to announce the Debian Kolab (www.kolab.org) packages:

http://pkg-kolab.alioth.debian.org/

We built these packages for one of our customer at work
(www.credativ.de) and are happy to give the work completly to Debian and
the users.
The reason why we don't use the upstream openpkg system is, that we love
the Debian package management and don't want to administrate a second
package system (openpkg) in the Debian one. See

http://wiki.kolab.org/index.php/Kolab2_linux_distribution_integration

We will finalize these packages and will then beginn to upload them to
experimental.

The steps are:
1. add deb http://pkg-kolab.alioth.debian.org/experimental-packages/ ./
to your sources.list
2. apt-get update; apt-get install kolabd
3. Read
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kolab/trunk/kolabd/debian/README.Debian?op=filerev=0sc=0
4. Tell us problems, bugs, suggestions on our mailinglist

Bug#351373: tempfile should honor TMPDIR=1

2006-02-04 Thread Martin Schulze
Package: perl-modules
Version: 5.8.7-10
Severity: wishlist

The function tempfile() does not behave like tempdir() when this
is what the user expects.

In detail, according to the documentation TMPDIR = 1 is honoured
by tempdir() and since other optional arguments are the same for
tempfile() and since it seems logical to have tempfile() create
a temporary file in the common temporary directory, people expect
TMPDIR = 1 to work with tempfile() as well.

However, this is not the case. Please see Bug#350954 and Bug#344029
as reference.

It would be nice if tempfile() would honour this optional parameter
as well.

Joey

Bug#344029: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Bug#350954: DSA-960-1 security update breaks libmail-audit-perl when $ENV{HOME} is not set]

2006-02-04 Thread Martin Schulze
Niko Tyni wrote:
 Hi security team,

I'm very sorry that you have to hear from me again :(

There's a regression in the patch for DSA-960-1, for both woody and sarge.
When $HOME is not set, Mail::Audit is now creating logfiles in cwd and
dying if it's not writable. This happens even if logging is turned off,
which makes the problem much more serious.

Doo, I have to agree that it is confusing to have tempdir() use different
parameters as tempfile(), but only partially.

I have not yet had a proper look at the proposed patches in #350954 and
the last message of #344029, but I wanted to make you aware of this.

Again, my apologies for the bad handling of this.

Comments to the attached patch, which are least intrusive to the
update we're already distributing?

Joey

Bug#347378: HPPA Install error on HP C200

2006-02-04 Thread Frans Pop
On Saturday 04 February 2006 10:31, you wrote:
That sounds very much like a kernel bug.
Can you please confirm what kernel version the installer is using
(output of 'uname -a' after switching to the 2nd console or choosing
the option execute a shell from the installer's main menu)?

 - Kernel version is sarge, debian-31r1a-hppa-netinst.iso

 - I remember I sent the output of 'uname -a' already a few weeks ago.

You sent this uname -a:
  Linux datatek 2.6.12-1-parisc #1 Tue Sep 27 10:16:14 UTC 2005 parisc
Which is for the Beta1 version of debian installer.

Could you give me some tips to install ?

First of all note that HPPA currently is not installable for Etch or
unstable. If you are using the Etch Beta1 or daily images, this explains
errors during base system installation.
This only recently became clear to us and is now documented on:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstallerToday

The only real error I can find in your report is:
 Creating ext3 file system for / in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,5,0)
 (sda)...Kernel panic: drivers/parisc/ccio-dma.c: ccio_alloc_range() I/O
MMU is out of mapping resources.
In interrupt handler - not syncing

Do you get this same error with all versions of the installer, or does it
fail at different points?

There are currently 3 different kernel versions available:
Sarge installer: 2.6.8
Etch Beta1 installer: 2.6.12
Daily builds: 2.6.14 (should change to 2.6.15 soon)

If the error is the same for all these versions, it looks to me like the
kernel just does not support your hardware. I that case we cannot help
you and your best option is probably to ask for help on the debian-hppa
mailing list.

If the errors are different, you will need to provide more information and
when you do, make it very clear what information goes with which version
of the installer, for example by creating a separate installation report
for each version. Be very clear at what stage of the installation the
failure occurred (the title of the last dialog or progress bar before the
failure for example).
We can only help if either the problem is fairly obvious or a known error,
or if you provide information detailed enough to narrow down the problem.

The part of the log you provided in your initial report is not very
informative: it just shows you selecting different options from the
installation menu, probably _after_ the real error occurred.
Please attach the full log file next time (as a gzipped attachment).

Note that it is extremely unlikely that we can fix any structural problems
in the Sarge or Etch Beta1 versions of kernel or the installer. We can
only hope to fix structural problems in the current versions of kernel
and installer.
Note also that the Debian Installer people are not HPPA or kernel experts.

Cheers,
FJP

P.S. Please follow up to the bug report next time and not to me privately!

suse this works now, I guess for debian most of it will work as well. If not
the code should be adapted for it (if possible).

With the dist_conf method you're also getting the possibility to access kolab

Sorry to reply on my own mail.

However it is indeed the same ICE still with the workaround -O1. I assumed
this ICE was fixed as I did not find any bug on the gcc bugs page in the
debian bug tracker.

I have an updated package ready that re-enables -O1 for m68k, however I'm not
100% sure that is the correct way to proceed.

In both cases, the encoding is Unicode. I wonder why Firefox doesn't
use a Unicode font for everything!

The only unicode font covering all the unicode character set is Arial
Unicode MS, and it's limited to unicode 2.1.
And actually, you'll get exactly the same kind of font problems with
anything using fontconfig with different locales.
Yes, that sucks, but that's not a firefox problem, it's a fontconfig
one. Firefox can only hint fontconfig about what it believes the text is
written in, making assumptions from what the server and the page gives
him.

An example of such problem : choose a CJK font and display a french text
with diacritic characters such as é. Most CJK font doesn't support these
characters. The us-ascii part of the text will be displayed with the
font you selected, and the é in another font, which, most of the time,
hasn't even got the same size or shape.

Again, this is not a Firefox problem.

BTW, is there any way to know what request Firefox did to fontconfig
 for some part of text?

That's a good question. I have no idea.

Hello,

Please find attached a trivial patch to fix manpage translations for
French and Russian. You may want to manually unfuzzyfy such
translation strings for simple english corrections.

Greetings,

Fred

Bug#351379: cfalrtl: Please switch to gettext-based debconf templates

2006-02-04 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: cfalrtl
Version: 1.2.0-3
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

Hi,

Please use gettext-based debconf templates to allow translations, as
recommended by the developers-reference (section 6.5.2.2). See
po-debconf(7). There is also a lintian warning:
  W: cfalrtl source: not-using-po-debconf
If you need additional help to do this switch, do not hesitate to ask me
or to ask on debian-i18n.

By the way, when you will do the switch, please check your templates
consistency according to the developers-reference (especially sections
6.5.4.2.1, 6.5.2.5 and 6.5.4.2.4).

Cheers,

Yes I have. I wasn't clear enough in the message. I wold like to
see some kind of crash course or reminder in the EXAMPLES section
of the man pages, so that the standard work flow could be seen
 in one glance.

Reality check please! Do you expect the g++ manpage to be a C syntax
reference and describe every bit of OOP, plus make tutorial and
autotools guide to explain the standard workflow?

 I Mean:

   1. Hack Debian
   2. BE away in other projects
   3. .. back to debian after months
   4. ?? Eh, I've forgotten the routine
   5. ?? Hm, the command was XXX, let's read man page, maybe it
  brings to my mind...
   6. Erm, no EXAMPLES section here ...

SEP. If you forgot the knowledge, go the same way as the first time to
get it. I am not there to teach everyone doing everything and looking in
new-maint-guide or dev-reference from time to time is not a reason to be
ashamed.

The /usr/share/doc/svn-buildpackage could be the full manual
and EXAMPLES would give typical examples how commands are applied.

If you wish to see a noob-style guide, write one and I most likely would
add it to the package.

Eduard.

When I had the problem with https pages not loading as described

failed to display, giving me a dark grey page, although view source
worked fine.

After restarting Firefox, the page
