Bug#329901: xterm
I've run into this bug for a very long time, usually when starting something like the Linux make menuconfig. If this isn't a problem with xterm, could it be reassigned to the proper package (libxinerama? xfs?) so it can be properly addressed? -jim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Between 1968 and 1971, the United Kingdom used the GMT+1 time all year. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Summer_Time for the details. They must have been mad :) So should tm_isdst == 1 for that period instead of 0? (I'll take no reply as a no, and no offence taken) Strictly speaking it is not a summer time, the time being the same all the year. People called that summer time because the offset corresponds to the one of previous summer time periods. But this is wrong! So I think the implementation chosen is tzdata is correct. -- .''`. Bug#410026: linux-image-2.6.18-3-k7: Oops related to firefox-bin (Iceweasel): BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-k7 Version: 2.6.18-7 Severity: important I've got kernel Oops two times and it maybe related to process firefox-bin. Bug#406292: pysvn_load_dirs: a freely redistributable implementation of svn_load_dirs
On 2/7/07, Karl Fogel [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: dann frazier [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Due to licensing issues w/ svn_load_dirs[1], I have started a reimplementation of this tool, currently under the GPL license. This implementation is intended to become a drop-in replacement for svn_load_dirs, though it is currently missing some of its features[2] - not uncoincidentally the ones I never used in the original. I plan to increase compatability over time. http://free.linux.hp.com/~dannf/pysvn_load_dirs pysvn_load_dirs uses the pysvn module mostly because that's the one I'm most familiar with. Porting to the libsvn interface, at a glance, looks pretty straightforward. [snip] Can I make a suggestion? svn_load_dirs was never a very descriptive name anyway, for a tool that essentially does what most people think of as vendor branches (although some object to the latter term on the grounds that often the source is not a vendor but another open source project). In any case, both in order to avoid identity confusion and to have a better name, maybe you could name it something wholly new, and just say in its documentation that it's intended as a drop-in replacement for svn_load_dirs? Possibilities: sourcedrop, svn_vbranch, sidefork... I dunno, I'm just making stuff up, probably you can come up with something better. I've an old idea that functionality of 'svn_load_dirs.pl' should just extended behavior of 'svn import' command. Ivan Zhakov [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I've an old idea that functionality of 'svn_load_dirs.pl' should just extended behavior of 'svn import' command. So I propose name like 'svn_import'. But then it would be impossible to tell whether one means svn import or svn_import, in speech. Some synonyms for import: give entrance to, give admittance to, give the entree; introduce, intromit; usher, admit, receive, import, bring in, open the door to, throw in, ingest, absorb, imbibe, inhale, breathe in; let in, take in, suck in, draw in; readmit, resorb, reabsorb; snuff up, swallow, ingurgitate; engulf, engorge; gulp; eat, drink Well, svn_intromit is probably a bit awkward, but svn_ingest might work. Bug#410027: madwifi-source: Madwifi (or kernel) fails to respect wifi light on nc6000
Package: madwifi-source Version: 1:0.9.2+r1842.20061207-2 Severity: minor Hello, with newer versions of the kernel and madwifi driver, the LED on my HP nc6000 is on even if the wifi has been shutoff (with the corresponding button on the laptop); this behavior didn't happen earlier and the LED was off when the wifi was off, and on with the wifi on. To be clear the button on the laptop doesn't deactivate the WLAN device but does only deactivate the antenna (though it deactivates as well the complete bluetooth device). The issue appeared somewhere between madwifi-modules-2.6.16-2-686 0.svnr1644.0.9.0-2+2.6.16-17 and madwifi-modules-2.6.18-3-686 0.9.2+r1842.20061207-2+2.6.18-7, so that I don't know if it's due to the kernel or the madwifi driver. But I need to start somewhere, don't I? The bug is quite annoying because I have no easy way beside dmesg (checking for the bluetooth device) to know if the wifi is on or off. I would be already grateful for a way to properly find the culprit. Package: fuse Severity: normal Hi, Could you please upograde your package to 2.6.3 ? Neither fuse upstream nor ntfs-3g think 2.6.2 is a good release. See this release note from 2.6.3 : The quality of the 2.6.2 release turned out to be rather poor, with one serious and a couple of less serious regressions. This release will hopefully be better. Bug#410030: grep: regex with '\t' fails
Package: grep Version: 2.5.1.ds2-6 Severity: wishlist hi, at first it lokked like a bug, but then after digging into the docs I'm rating it a wishlist item. Seems that grep fails on simple basic regex: % echo -e '\t\t:ris'|egrep '^\t' fails, yet it should clearly match. Eg.: % echo -e '\t\t:ris'|agrep '^\t' :ris with agrep from tre-regex. But even agrep seems broken here: % echo -e '\t\t:ris'|agrep '^[ \t]' fails. [ \t] would be [:blank:] and with that both *grep work. Also fail: % echo -e '\t:ris'|egrep '^\t' and % echo -e '\t:ris'|egrep '^[ \t]' Funny is, that sed (4.1.5) works: % echo -e '\t:ris'|sed 's/^[ \t]\(.*\)/\1/' :ris and pcregrep (4.3, PCRE 6.7) is fine on all of above: % echo -e '\t\t:ris'|pcregrep '^\t' :ris % echo -e '\t\t:ris'|pcregrep '^[ \t]' :ris % echo -e '\t:ris'|pcregrep '^[ \t]' :ris manpage doesn't mention escapes like \t, POSIX states that The interpretation of an ordinary character preceded by a backslash (\) is undefined. though I'd expect grep and sed agree on RE, and rather have support in grep for the usual escapes (other than the RE specials, that is) like sed and pcregrep. thanks -- paolo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#408556: SECURITY: Incorrect MIME type detection can trick users into running arbitrary commands
# Woops, messed up with the retitles. # nautilus retitle 408556 SECURITY: Specially crafted .desktop files can disguise as harmless files # gnome-vfs2 retitle 408948 SECURITY: Incorrect MIME type detection can trick users into running arbitrary commands stop On Mon, Jan 29, 2007, Loïc Minier wrote: clone 408556 -1 reassign 408556 nautilus retitle -1 SECURITY: Specially crafted .desktop files can disguise as harmless files stop Hi, Since it wasn't clear for everybody reading this bug: Debian #408556 is about the fact that files with unknown extensions (e.g. .jpg , mind the final space), but executable contents (such a .desktop file), can trick users into running arbitrary command. This is a security problem because you can trick users into saving a file named e.g. apple.jpg and opening it because they might think opening .jpg files is safe, but gnome-vfs/shared-mime-info will report the MIME type as being .desktop file and nautilus will run the specified command instead of opening the .jpg viewer. The proposed solution for this bug is to check whether the file uses the correct extension for its MIME type as is done in Xfce's VFS lib (see attached .c snippet). I'm cloning this bug and reassigning against nautilus because the current way in which .desktop files are painted in nautilus is a security issue in itself: people can host dangerous files on smb:// shares and trick users into opening them because nautilus will display the .desktop file using its embedded Name and Icon; so you can display the .desktop file as if it were a picture or sound file with the name of a picture or sound file, and people will be tricked into opening it with no useful way to distinguish. The proposed solution for this bug is to filter for which URLs nautilus is allowed to nicely display .desktop files. http:// and smb:// could be disabled by default and file:// and computer:// could be enabled, but some special URLs need to be explicitely authorized as nautilus relies on .desktop files support in e.g. smb://$workgroup/ to list computer names. Bug#410039: No /usr/lib/xen folder so it's confusing other packages
Package: linux-image-2.6-xen-686 Severity: wishlist Hello, Our package, dtc-xen, uses /usr/lib/python/xen installed by the normal xen source package using make install. With this package, there is no such folder, but instead something with version number like this: /usr/lib/xen-3.0.3-1/lib/python. So we cannot include the xen python bindings for xen.xm that we use to start and stop a VM. Of course, there is no error when using the source version of xen from xensource.com. I highly think that not having this /usr/lib/python/xen folder under the Debian package is really problematic. As there would be a problem to just insert a symlink in the package itself (diversion problems when upgrading or when you want to have both versions installed at the same time), my suggestion is that the postinst of the package creates a symlink in /usr/lib/python/xen so that it always works. Note that our package (dtc-xen) will not care if it's not the corresponding kernel that is started, I believe, but this would for sure solve our issues. I'd appreciate A LOT if this was fixed. Note that I have filed a bug only for this i686 version, but of course, the same problem occurs when running on amd64 and other images. Bug#404483: is built but does not work
I've tried to use the proposed patch with the released Linux kernel 2.6.20 from kernel.org While it does help to build the madwifi modules, they do not work properly. Namely, I get the following error when the modules start: wifi%%d: unable to attach hardware: '' (HAL status 3222512051) and no wifi device is created. I do not know if this error is related to the patch. If not, should I file a new bugreport? P.S. The wifi device works perfectly with madfiwi driver under kernel 2.6.19 (on the same system with the same settings). Max -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#113279: Please consider apt-cross
P.S. An apt-get hack to allow you to pull in dependent cross files would be great! apt-cross is intended to be an apt-like frontend for dpkg-cross and as such, does include limited dependency tracking. Please take a look at apt-cross for this functionality. If this is sufficient, please close this bug. Otherwise, please re-assign (or let me know so that I can re-assign) this bug to apt-cross. Bug#410020: Bug: server.h includes priv.h, which is not distributed
Hello, Steven Blanchard reported this bug to the Debian bts: The header file libssh/priv.h is missing from the package. It is required by libssh/server.h. It appears to have been overlooked in Makefile.in's install routines from upsteam. Adding it to Makefile.in at line 92 worked on my machine. I replied this: As far as I know, the file libssh/priv.h is voluntarily not distributed, to prevent users from accessing internal data. So in my opinion, the bug is that libssh/server.h includes libssh/priv.h. Correct me if I'm wrong. If not, the attached patch seems to fix it. It isn't assertive; doesn't check that the arguments are one of the documented interfaces. As such, it's likely to be an error: an effectively empty script used for rollbacks will succeed, even though nothing has actually been rolled back. If old {pre, post}rm upgrade fail, and that script exists in the new package, but is effectively-empty, failed-upgrade will always succeed. dpkg would know that it should fail if the new file doesn't exist. In the unusual case that upgrade really had some effect, and failed-upgrade shouldn't, then it makes sense to include a maintscript with the usual case foo (which catches undocumented values of $1). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#410046: debian-installer: Unresponsive ftp server freezes install
Package: debian-installer Severity: normal (I've re-sent this bug report through my normal email program because I have the suspicion that reportbug somehow can't SMTP through my employer's firewall). During the installation of etch I accidentally selected a Debian ftp mirror which was apparently buggy (ftp2.de.debian.org). For some reason or another the progress bar during the initial download (I think just the Packages.gz file) got stuck and didn't move for more than an hour. After that I had to forcibly kill the installer and do everything up to that point over again, selecting a different ftp mirror. Smooth sailing after that. I think it would be good if the installer, during potentially lenghty operations and especially those that can fail due to reasons outside the installer, provided three things: 1) more verbous information of what is going on and why it could potentially last very long. 2) An automatic timeout after whose expiration the user can try to repeat the operation or go back to the previous step. In my case, this timeout could have included the suggestion to try a different mirror. 3) A cancel function that can be activated at any time by the user, and which will gracefully bring the installer back to the previous step. Thanks a lot, and keep up the great work! -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-486 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#409925: kmail: Composer window starts minimised
Some further observations: The same thing just happened when I clicked on a mailto: link in Konqueror. The composer window started minimised. But when I closed the composer and clicked the mailto: link again, it opened a window, although it was behind the Konqueror window and not in focus. It would be more natural to give the window focus, since a user clicking on a mailto: link probably wants to write a mail right away. pgpFQ3QQj7bL2.pgp Description: PGP signature

Hi! I just implemented this long-standing feature request in Ubuntu: dhcp3 (3.0.4-12ubuntu2) feisty; urgency=low . * Add debian/patches/dynamic-hostname.dpatch: - Add support for a new string type 'h' which behaves like 't' except that 'hostname' is changed to the current hostname. - Change 'host-name' DHCP option type from 't' to 'h'. - Based on a patch from Nathan O'Sullivan, thank you! * debian/dhclient.conf: Enable send-hostname by default (value 'hostname', which our shiny new patch from above will translate to the actual hostname). Closes: LP#10239 and two handful of duplicates. Bug#410050: flashybrid: package displays useless warning on updates
Package: flashybrid Version: 0.13 Severity: important Justification: shows warning messages about installations on upgrades When you install the package it will warn you that it modifies the way the system behaves. This is crucial since this package may brake some assumptions about the way your system behaves. However, those messages are needed only on the first install, and not in every update. Imagine a company developing an embbeded device using flashybrid, and then they issue some update. The confused user will get the warning about somthing out of his control (he has not installed the package, and he does not wish to remove it). The solution is to show the message only if the service is not up and running (by looking into /etc/default/flashybrid). -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#410057: cron should send email with UTF-8 charset as it's default in Etch
Package: cron Version: 3.0pl1-100 Severity: important UTF-8 charset is default in Etch and hence I think cron should send email messages with this charset. I tried to source and export my system's locale variables (LANG and LC_*) in /etc/init.d/cron but it did not effect to emails sent by the cron. But adding CONTENT_TYPE=text/plain; charset=utf-8 to every crontab file works. It would be nicer to use system's locale variables, though. More information is in the crontab(5) manual. Even if system administrator chooses to use non-UTF-8 locale, it doesn't necessarily hurt to send messages with UTF-8 charset since mail user agents handle the conversion. It only hurts when administrator creates non-UTF-8 encoded scritps which write something to stdout in a cron job. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-k7 Locale: LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages cron depends on: ii adduser 3.102Add and remove users and groups ii debianutils 2.17 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libpam0g0.79-4 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libselinux1 1.32-3 SELinux shared libraries ii lsb-base3.1-22 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip Versions of packages cron recommends: ii exim4 4.63-17metapackage to ease exim MTA (v4) ii exim4-daemon-light [mail-tran 4.63-17lightweight exim MTA (v4) daemon -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#410060: xkb-data: ctrl:swapcaps doesn't work (fully) correctly
Package: xkb-data Version: 0.9-4 Severity: normal I'm having a strange problem concerning my keyboard setup. Let me describe: I have fvwm-crystal installed with 4 virtual desktops and setup a mapping by ALT+CTRL+1 do move the active window onto the virtual desktop 1 (of course, pressing ALT+CTRL+4 moves the window to desktop 4). If I setup my xkb config like this: $ setxkbmap -v Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwerty) types: complete compat: complete symbols:pc(pc105)+us geometry: pc(pc105) it works as expected. But as I like to have Caps_Lock as an additional CTRL Key, I run $ setxkbmap -layout us -option ctrl:nocaps $ setxkbmap -v Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwerty) types: complete compat: complete symbols:pc(pc105)+us+ctrl(nocaps) geometry: pc(pc105) and now Caps_Lock behaves like CTRL. I can move my window to every desktop *except* to desktop 1. That means pressing the keys Caps_Lock+ALT+1 does nothing. But pressing CTRL+ALT+1 behaves as it should. (so does Caps_Lock+Alt+2..4) If I could do anything more specific to resolve this issue feel free to ask. -Peter Baumann I don't now if it's usefull, but I attached the output of xev pressing CTRL+ALT+1 because Caps_Lock+ALT+1 had _NO_ output. Bug#409773: Solution
After some testing I found the solution to my problem: First I found that there were cases when it worked and others when it didn't work. Trying 'python -v examplescript.py 2 logfile' showed that in the nonworking case Numeric was loaded and in the other numpy. In the end I found out that it wasn't working when I was in my homedir and there I had an ancient resource-file which prevented the sourcing of the one in /etc : -rw-r--r-- 1 gaubitzer gaubitzer 41 2004-07-13 17:12 /home/gaubitzer/matplotlibrc I don't remember if I intentionally created this file or if this was the resource file of some previous matplotlib version. The effect was that removing this file removed the problem. If someone else also has this file in the homedir please add it to this bug report to find out if the file is a relict of old versions. I think it is a) incompatible with the GPL, and as it links with at least Qt, this makes Orange indistributable. b) senseless, because if Orange is used in a scientific publication they have to be mentioned anyways - maybe not with this exact paper, but I am confident everybody uses that exact paper if they do not oblige the users, but ask them to use this paper - not another.
