Bug#428087: Looks like an ABI change in SWT's native library
Changing /usr/share/java-config/libswt-3.2-java to reference /usr/lib/java/swt.jar rather than /usr/share/java/swt-gtk-3.2.1.jar doesn't make any difference on my system. Rather, the problem seems to be that Azureus is looking for swt-pi-gtk-3235, but libswt3.2-gtk-jni now contains libswt-pi-gtk-3236.so instead. -- Mike Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Well, the question is: How should I handle this? There are several ways: 1) Simply tell the user that he's now on his own. Uhh. Bad dude. If you leave me for my own, why do you do like i would have a choice? This could be turned into a boolean: Automatically configure Apache? As Thijs pointed, configuring other Apache flavours is no longer needed, so the choice is just between configuring the last remaining web server one can automatically configureor just leave things unconfigured for users who use another web serveror the Apache 2 users who prefer do the configuration themselves. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#428411: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#428411: Acknowledgement (winbind: Winbind with idmap = rid segfaults when connecting from windows host)
Quoting Gregor Kronenberger ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): I have since downgraded Samba and Winbind to 3.0.24-6+lenny3 and the error has disappeared. It confirms that we might need more investigation and that bug seems to deserve it. Could you try to reproduce that bug with log level = 10? That may be not enough because the segfault could need to be investigated under gdb after installing the samba-dbg package. However, that requires winbindd to include debug symbols in samba-dbg which we don't have yet. We however need to know whether you can easily switch back and forth versions so that you can investigate but still have a working setup...:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Ah, right. One more thing: you are aware that the apache, apache-ssl and apahce-perl variants are about to be removed from Debian entirely? I was about to mention this in another mail, yes. Indeed, keeping this template then probably makes sense only if an Other choice is added (with relevant code in the maintainers' scripts to just do nothing and leaves things to be handled manually by the local admin). signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I think this is a hardware issue ... I didn't try with oss as an openal backend, but probably the reason for the distortion happening only for alsa is that in oss mode there is only one timing thread/one app accessing (or trying to access the sound card) causing enough delay for the sound to resonate with the frequencies on some internal bus (which applies perfectlyto your case). ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#428444: rmdir -p ./foo literally tries to rmdir .
Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~mkdir foo [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~rmdir -p ./foo rmdir: .: Invalid argument zsh: exit 1 rmdir -p ./foo Since . is never a valid argument to rmdir(), why does rmdir try to do that? Because there is an implicit user request to do so. Similar to why rmdir . always fails. Consider a script that gets input from the user about what directory to act on, and wants to rmdir it at the end. The current behavior of rmdir forces each such script to check the user's input to avoid calling rmdir with a path name starting with ./. I think it would be better for rmdir -p to simply ignore the ./ and not try to literally rmdir(.) in this case. Thanks for the suggestion. As you probably know, even the latest rmdir (in coreutils-6.9 and in version control) acts the same way. However, it's not clear to me that (and if so, how) this should change. Making rmdir -p ignore just a leading ./ is seductive, but what about other . components? For example, should all of these continue to fail? rmdir -p a/./b rmdir -p a/./ rmdir -p . And what if there is more than one leading ./? rmdir -p ././foo And what if there are _only_ ./ components? rmdir -p ./././ If mkdir -p treats ./ specially, then should it do the same for a leading ../ component? Probably not, but you can make the same argument, since rmdir(..) must always fail. Also, POSIX requires the current behavior. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#428195: krb5: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review
Summary at the end of this mail that addresses a few remaining issues. (Was the conclusion to use single quotes? I should probably join debian-l10n-english in my copious free time.) There was no conclusion. If someone wanted to make a statement that only one should be used and pick one then we could follow it, but maybe we should stick with a more organic approach, where we just use whatever comes out at the end of the maintainer-reviewers-maintainer interaction. I agree with this. My feeling up to now is that there are little more arguments for single quotes than double ones, but the difference is small enough for not carving such rule in stone. So, again, I have used single ones here, but if Russ feels uncomfortable about them, it's OK to revert back to double ones. You would be very welcome to join in with the list. Now we have got going it seems to be clear that English as a first language is far from necessary. Christian does large parts of the rewrites himself, and Justin and MJ do a good job of picking up on the language issues. Very politically correct way to say pick on Christian's awful usage of the English language..:-) Type: note Oh, and while we're reviewing this -- is this note debconf note abuse? I didn't remove it the last time I changed the templates, but I wasn't sure. Well, Christian is the one to ask, but I believe it might be. Yes, it is debconf abuse in my opinion. I tend to avoid enforcing the removal of such notes during the rewrite on packages with a high popularity (which ar eusually well maintained). But, if Russ asks, that means that he probably feels like this could be debconf abuse..:-) krb524d is a daemon that converts Kerberos V5 tickets into Kerberos V4 tickets for the krb524init program and other programs that obtain Kerberos V4 tickets for compatibility with old applications. I don't want to give the impression that krb524d is only used if you're running krb524init, since the latter is not one of the more common ways of getting Kerberos V4 tickets. Most users actually use krb524d because of old versions of aklog, although the version in Debian hasn't required this for quite some time. The Red Hat Kerberos PAM module is another likely use. Your new wording is fine. However can I suggest krb524d is a daemon that converts Kerberos V5 tickets into Kerberos V4 tickets for programs, such as krb524init, that obtain Kerberos V4 tickets for compatibility with old applications. I adopted that one, with a minor change: The krb524d daemon converts Kerberos V5 tickets into Kerberos V4 tickets for programs, such as krb524init, that obtain Kerberos V4 tickets for compatibility with old applications. which avoid the issue of having a program name at the beginning of a sentence. For such cases where we can't avoid program names to begin a sentence, I suggest quoting them, which is a way to circumvent the sentence has no initial capital impression. That seems like a good convention to me, and one that I use. However it does push technical writing conventions up against those of more traditional writing. Much like the V5 vs. v5 issue, which I did not speak up on before, but I would like to put a vote in for the latter if it is not too late. It's never too late. We might need someone to record such conventions on the wiki page. Speaking for myself, I can't do it as I mostly work offline (and it would anyway be good to have someone else handling such important task. Summary: -need Russ' final word on quotes. We seem to agree to use whatever he feels appropriate even if I have a small preference for single ones -need aproval for the final wording of the 'krb524d' daemon -decision about removal of the debconf note (I can include removing it from the maintainers scripts in the patch). As soon as these three have been settled on, i'll send a corrected patch. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#428482: common-lisp-controller: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: common-lisp-controller Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Friday, May 25, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for common-lisp-controller. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading common-lisp-controller with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, June 15, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. On Thursday, June 28, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). The description is in the form of pairs of regular expressions and C code, called ``rules''. `flex' generates as output a C source file, `lex.yy.c', which defines a routine `yylex()'. This file is compiled and linked with the `-lfl' library to produce an executable. When the executable is run, it analyzes its input for occurrences of the regular expressions. Bug#428487: nvidia-kernel-2.6-amd64: -amd64 packages should be built for i386 architecture
Package: nvidia-kernel-2.6-amd64 Severity: normal Currently the linux-image-2.6-amd64 packages (such as linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64, linux-image-2.6.21-1-amd64 and so on) are being built for both amd64 and i386 architectures. But nvidia kernel modules (nvidia-kernel-2.6-amd64: nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-4-amd64/nvidia-kernel-legacy-2.6-amd64 and like this) are being built for amd64 only. There seems to be many people interested in running 32bit-kernels on their Core-2-s and Athlon-64-s, wishing to have these kernels fully optimized for their CPUs nevertheless; giving them opportunity to support Nvidia drivers in such configuration with usual Debian's ease would be useful. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (480, 'stable'), (450, 'unstable'), (400, 'experimental'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i586) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-486 Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#427598: toshutils: FTBFS: hotkey.c:89:19: error: asm/io.h: No such file or directory

Sánchez wrote: You report that toshutils fails to build: http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2007/06/01/toshutils_2.0.1-15_sid32.buildlog I think that your build environment may be broken. The specific error that causes the build to fail is this: hotkey.c:89:19: error: asm/io.h: No such file or directory However, asm/io.h is contained in the linux-kernel-headers package, upon which libc6-dev depends. Of course, build-essential depends upon libc6-dev on i386. So, any functioning basic Debian build environment should have /usr/include/asm/io.h in it. Actually, libc6-dev depends on linux-libc-dev | linux-kernel-headers. linux-libc-dev doesn't contain asm/io.h. Buildds are migrating from l-k-h to l-l-dev, so your package will fail to build on the buildds as well. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#423721: GIT_VERSION contains (duplicate) localversion?
Hi, I've been fiddling around with the same problem for a while, here are my findings (and a suggestion for the real fix). The version that kernel-package finds for me is 2.6.22-rc4-g4d33a504-dirty-g4d33a504-dirty-dirty. This version is created at debian/ruleset/misc/version_vars.mk:155 version = $(VERSION).$(PATCHLEVEL).$(SUBLEVEL)$(EXTRAVERSION)$(iatv)$(LOCALVERSION)$(GIT_VERSION) Here, $LOCALVERSION = -g4d33a504-dirty and $GIT_VERSION = -g4d33a504-dirty-dirty I'm not really sure what these variables actually mean and are supposed to hold, but I find the initalization of GIT_VERSION a bit weird at debian/ruleset/misc/version_vars.mk:98 ifneq ($(strip $(CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO)),) GIT_VERSION=$(shell /bin/sh scripts/setlocalversion) ifneq ($(strip $(GIT_VERSION)),) GIT_VERSION:=$(GIT_VERSION)-dirty endif endif It would appear to me that 'setlocaversion' is supposed to set LOCALVERSION, not GIT_VERSION ? Seemingly it does, since GIT_VERSION contains LOCALVERSION with -dirty appended, as you would expect from this code. The main problem here is that the kernel itself (in utsrelease.h IIRC) thinks it's just 2.6.22-rc4-g4d33a504-dirty, without that GIT_VERSION crap. Halfway into the build process, this generates a version mismatch error. unsetting CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO fixes compile for me too, the version is now simply 2.6.22-rc4. In the main kernel Makefile:798, I find # If CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO is set scripts/setlocalversion is called # and if the SCM is know a tag from the SCM is appended. # The appended tag is determined by the SCM used. # # Currently, only git is supported. # Other SCMs can edit scripts/setlocalversion and add the appropriate # checks as needed. ifdef CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO _localver-auto = $(shell $(CONFIG_SHELL) \ $(srctree)/scripts/setlocalversion $(srctree)) localver-auto = $(LOCALVERSION)$(_localver-auto) endif localver-full = $(localver)$(localver-auto) This means that the CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO stuff is already done by the kernel Makefile itself and there is no need for version_vars.mk to fiddle around with GIT_VERSION anymore. AFAICS, the proper fix would be to throw out GIT_VERSION alltogether? Perhaps it was needed for older kernels, so it should get a version guard? Anyway, just my EUR 0,02. Gr. Bug#298689: Another solution
The apache command 'apache -k stop' simply sends a signal to the server process, The code is a simple as: kill ($PID, SIGTERM); I verified that in the apache 2.2.4 sources. NOTE: it does not wait until the server really stops So the init.d restart code has a race condition: apache2 -k stop # sends a kill, but server is still running sleep XXX# server is still running when under high load apache2 start# start fails because previous server is still running # stop succeeds - all apache servers are now stopped! Although the sleep 10 avoids the bug in most cases, it is not 100% save, especially when running on slow machines (vmware) or when the server is on high load. On fast Machines it adds an unnecessary delay. It is quite easy to reproduce that race condition with the following script: - #!/bin/sh `pidof apache2` || /etc/init.d/apache2 start while PID=`pidof apache2`; do /etc/init.d/apache2 restart sleep 1 done -- If you remove the sleep 10 (or put the server under high load) the restart fails Quite often. The correct fix is to wait until the server really stops: -- apache_sync_stop() { # running ? PIDTMP=$(pidof_apache) if $(kill -0 ${PIDTMP:-} 2 /dev/null); then PID=$PIDTMP fi apache_stop # wait until really stopped if [ -n ${PID:-} ]; then i=0 while $(kill -0 ${PID:-} 2 /dev/null); do if [[ $i == '6' ]]; then break; else if [[ $i == '0' ]]; then echo -n waiting else echo -n . fi i=$(($i+1)) sleep $(($i*$i)); # 1,4,9,16,25 fi done fi } -- Is that reasonable? - Dietmar -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#428502: gnome-terminal: recently typed characters sometimes don't appear immediately
Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.18.0-1 Severity: normal This looks like the kind of buffering problem that would happen if bash didn't call fflush internally. Especially when I'm entering text using readline, sometimes the characters don't appear immediately but if I type another character then the previous characters appear (they are not lost). Bug#428506: phpgroupware-todo: Sorting does not work properly.
Package: phpgroupware-todo Version: 0.9.16.011-2.2 Severity: normal When there are more lines in the current selection than shown in one screenfull, sorting is doing strange things. (when there all lines from the selection fit in one screen, sorting does not do a thing at all, but that is not much of a problem). When I hit the 'priority' column title, the order of the todo items change, but it does not group all low, medium and high priority todos together. I've tried somewhat to figure out what might be wrong: 1. Selecting only todos from one category does not make it better (thinking that the items from one category might always be grouped). 2. Also the highest-level todo items are not ordered properly (thinking that child todos might be always grouped with their parents) At least the sort is deterministic. Hitting priority sorts in some order. Hitting it again changes the order (but does NOT reverse it). Hitting it yet again changes back to the first order. The sorting does not work properly for status, priority, title, start date (didn't test end date, owner) I'm using mysql (on a different machine) and ldap (on yet another machine; the same ldap tree is also used to authentication of imap and other things). Bug#408387: the Debian menu is (not consistently) localized
On Tue, Jun 12, 2007 at 10:14:39AM +0300, Eddy Petrișor wrote: bounty:/home/eddy# cat /var/lib/menu-xdg/desktop-directories/menu-xdg/debian-apps.directory [Desktop Entry] Type=Directory Encoding=UTF-8 Name=Apps Name[ro]=Aplicaţii This seems good. The XDG menu is localised. So it seems the problem is a bad interaction between localpurge and update-menus. I will try to investigate it. I ran again update-menu --remove as a user and reinstalled menu-xdg and now the Debian menu is gone (but until now the menu was still non-localized). This looks like a different problem. Maybe there is a GNOME-specific setting that prevent the global menu to be displayed. Look for files in ~/.local Alternatively, see if running update-menu as a user make a difference.
