Bug#457272: RFP: dvbcut -- Qt application for cutting parts out of DVB streams

2007-12-21 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Dvbcut is available at http://dvbcut.sourceforge.net/ and is already
packaged in debian-multimedia archive.

I think it would be great to have it in the plain Debian distro.

The best start is probably to try and isolate the change(s) that made

Bug#456722: xmms-xf86audio: should this package be orphaned?

2007-12-21 Thread Devin Carraway
[ upstream author here, not the maintainer ]

The xmms-xf86audio plugin is tightly tied to xmms. While it's possible that it
could be rewritten to work with another audio player, most others already
have the feature this plugin provides. I know audacious does, and last I
looked none of the XMMS2 UIs were far enough along to need such a thing.

If xmms does get removed from Debian, then I suggest this package be removed
also.

Bug#457273: python2.x-dbg: error with threads (works fro python2.x)

2007-12-21 Thread Sandro Tosi
Package: python-all-dbg
Version: 2.4.4-6
Severity: normal

Hello,
while packaging processing (a python module to use processes like
threads) I've faced a strange error: running tests with python2.{4,5} no
problem, but using -dbg version an error comes out Fatal Python error:
Invalid thread state for this thread.

Richard (upstream author of processing) kindly provided me a small test
python program to spot the problem (dbg.py attached to this report):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python2.4 ~/tmp/dbg.py

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python2.5-dbg ~/tmp/dbg.py

The behaviour of python2.{4,5} is the intended one, while with -dbg the error
appears.

It could be due to my arch (amd64), an issue on packaging or something deeper
in python code.

Thanks,
Sandro

[ Some confusing about /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h not being a symlink ]
No, I think this particular bug is solved.

What do you think about the symlink problem?

/usr/include/mpi/mpi.h is not a symlink because /usr/include/mpi is a
symlink. The MPI packages place all their header files in a directory
under /usr/lib/package/include (or alike) and provide a symlink to that
directory named /usr/include/mpi. As a result, /u/i/m/mpi.h is a real
file in a symlinked directory. There is no need for mpi.h being a
symlink, as long as can be found in /usr/include somehow. You may like
to have a look at libopenmpi-dev.postinst and/or lam4-dev.postinst to
see how this works in practice.

I hope that I was able answer your question.

Bug#457250: Please add default configs for security.d.o, ubuntu, revu

with me if
you don't want to add entries for ubuntu/revu, I figured it

it's a
good idea to support these by name to help users avoid accidentally

embargoed security fixes public.

To be honest, if revu is a ubuntu-specific upload-queue, I would have
a slight preference ubuntu-revu as a name.

That said, it's not a big deal, so I'll just add some queues.

Do you want to add typical Distribution: values as well or is that
too much in flux with ubuntu?

Kind regards

Bug#457274: libaspell15: Filter for Debian DDTP-files

2007-12-21 Thread Christer Andersson
Package: libaspell15
Version: 0.60.5-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hello

I've written a simple filter for DDTP translations. It has made my life easier
and I hope it could be useful also to other Debian users.

The Debian Description Translation Project (DDTP) is an effort to provide
translated package descriptions (see
http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/ddtp). Contributors can submit their
work as plain text files using an email interface. Since the files will always
contain two languages (English and the target language) spell-checking can be a
nuisance. This filter is an attempt to simplify spell-checking by ignoring
comments and untranslated text.

Two versions of the patch are attached:
  * a dpatch for the debian/control/patches directory. The patch was created for
the 0.60.5-1 source package.
  * a tar.bz2 containing the filter files and a modified Makefile.am. Files must
be manually integrated into the source tree, but it could improve patch
ordering (the current dpatch is applied after the autotools dpatch).

Sources are licensed under LGPL2 or later. With the current aspell licensing
scheme this is (sadly) equivalent to LGPL 2.0 or 2.1 in practice. I've chosen to
use or later since it would allow the ddtp-filter to be used if upstream moves
to LGPL3. If the differing licenses are perceived as a problem, I would be
willing to use the same licensing terms as aspell itself (although it shouldn't
be necessary).

The proposed filter is Debian-specific and has not been submitted upstream.

/Christer

Yes, I had a look at this bug when I was doing my own triaging round - I
left it open only because fix_ldif is still being shipped in the
package. I think the right way to fix this bug is to kick fix_ldif and
supporting code out of the package, now that the transition it was made
 for is over.

Works for me and closes #305824 and #300287 as well. I'll go ahead and do
that. I disbelieve in the existence of databases that really need that
any more, and if we're wrong, we can always resurrect the code.

BTW, if you told me Dirk this right at the beginning, that /usr/include/mpi
is symlinked to the right headers in openmpi, we could have spared the

I didn't know about that, I thought you only have /usr/lib, which
 would be of course bad.

I was trying to get this message to you, though we happened to

All is fine, no bug there. Thanks again for your time spent on this issue.

Opps, that didn't occur to me, I am stupid. Yes, you are of course right.
BTW, if you told me Dirk this right at the beginning, that /usr/include/mpi
is symlinked to the right headers in openmpi, we could have spared the
whole thread.
I didn't know about that, I thought you only have /usr/lib, which
would be of course bad.

All is fine, no bug there. Thanks again for your time spent on this issue.

Bug#305838: Won't support 2.0 upgrades with malformed telephone numbers

Yes, I had a look at this bug when I was doing my own triaging round - I
left it open only because fix_ldif is still being shipped in the package. I
think the right way to fix this bug is to kick fix_ldif and supporting code
out of the package, now that the transition it was made for is over.

Looking at the source, I think it is not supposed to show a text entry

I couldn't figure out how to get appletproxy to pretend to be a
vertical panel, so I'm stuck for the moment as far as debugging this.

Bug#457278: libmodplug-dev: libmodplug.pc should use Libs.private

2007-12-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libmodplug-dev
Version: 1:0.7-7
Tags: upstream patch

Hi Zed,

/usr/lib/pkgconfig/libmodplug.pc currently has the following line:

  Libs: -L${libdir} -lmodplug -lstdc++ -lm

But libstdc++ and libm are not needed in order to dynamically link against
libmodplug, so this should be changed to:

  Libs: -L${libdir} -lmodplug
  Libs.private: -lstdc++ -lm

This is useful for the case of programs written in C that link to libmodplug,
which would pull in this line and try to link against libstdc++ - causing
failures in some corner cases:

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=xine-libarch=armver=1.1.8-4stamp=1198198360file=logas=raw

So while it only has a minor impact on helping to prune unnecessary library
dependencies, it will help make our packages more robust.

Bug#457283: gnome-games_1:2.20.2-1(ia64/unstable): FTBFS: guile-1.8-dev unavailable

2007-12-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: gnome-games
Version: 1:2.18.2.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: regression in architecture support

gnome-games is not being built on ia64 because the source package build-depends
unconditionally on guile-1.8-dev, but guile-1.8 is not ported to ia64. Please
fix this package to build-depend on guile-1.8-dev [!ia64], guile-1.6-dev [ia64]
instead.

This bug is blocking meta-gnome2 from being updated in testing.

Bug#456774: lm-sensors3 does not work

2007-12-21 Thread Aurelien Jarno
severity 456774 important
tag 456774 - patch

After looking at the calculations made in sensors3.conf causing the
problems I found that the difference between versions 2.10 and 3.0:
In version 2.10 the calculated values can be used in a subsequent
calculation, while it does not work for version 3.0 :-(, see code below:

 compute in0 (24/14.7 + 1) * @ , @ / (24/14.7 + 1)
 compute in5 (160/35.7)*(@ - in0) + @, (@ + in0*160/35.7)/(1+160/35.7)

As a workaround, I've changed the calculated 5V value with a fixed value
of 5V, see patch below for calculation of -12V and -5V values:

This is actually still possible but you should use in0_input instead of in0.

The main problem is not to fix the default configuration file, which is
pretty easy, but to fix the configuration converter.

Please don't bump the severity. This bug is not severity serious.
lm-sensors-3 is working on a vast majority of machines, and even on your
machine it is partly working.

This does not mean I don't want to fix this bug, it's just that I don't
want to delay the transitions. Please be patient and wait a few days.

Bug#456934: Add option to select the build dependency check algorithm

Currently yes, but I consider this a bug. The patched code already runs
in a loop to check for all alternatives, but it currently fails, if it
  can't satisfy a versioned dependency.

Maybe this is a divergence of the sbuild package from upstream sbuild
then. Fact is that the buildds will show this behaviour, so I am not
sure changing it in the sbuild package is the best solution.

...

 However, I wouldn't be opposed to adding a command-line and/or
configuration option which would allow the user to alter this, so long
as it is not the default behaviour. Adding a variable to
Sbuild/Conf.pm is pretty easy, as is a new command-line option. If
you would like to make a patch for that, that would be super.

Ok - I have attached a new patch to make the dependeny check algorith
select and configureable. Default is the old behaviour, but it can be
changed to check for alternatives via sbuild argument (-C) or by changing
check_depends_algorithm in the SBUILD BEHAVIOUR config group.

Tested with the bzr-svn package, which still fails with default, but
finishes with the alternatives algorithm.

Bug#457294: [powerpc] System time not updated after sleep cycle

2007-12-21 Thread Michel Dänzer
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.23-1
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

After wakeup from sleep, the system time is still the same as it was when going
to sleep. I have to restart ntp to get it updated.

This problem didn't occur with previous kernels. It persists in
2.6.23-2~snapshot.9949 but is fixed in
2.6.24~rc5-1~experimental.1~snapshot.9974 . I'm CC'ing the linuxppc-dev list on
this report in the hope that someone there remembers how this was fixed post
2.6.23 upstream and that the fix can hopefully be backported.

On http://www.debian.org/devel/people some people have the wrong
homepage listed. I'm one of them, Stefano Zacchiroli is another. Both
our homepage is listed correctly on db.debian.org, so it's probably a
problem with the script that generates the page in question.

Bug#457296: libsqlite3-ruby: Missed dependence: libsqlite3-dev (needed for 'DL' driver)

2007-12-21 Thread Hleb Rubanau
Package: libsqlite3-ruby
Version: 1.2.1-1

DL driver is obsoleted AFAIK, but it's included in a package, so it's
reasonable to assume it should be working

1. Execute following ruby script:

#! /usr/bin/ruby

require 'sqlite3'

filename='/tmp/test/sqlite_bug.db'
sql=SQLite3::Database.new(filename, :driver ='DL')

2. RuntimeError is raised:

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/sqlite3/database.rb:107:in `initialize'

3. Possible reason:
libsqlite3.so belongs to package libsqlite3-dev,
which is included in 'Build-Depends' field of package sources,
but not included in 'Depends' list.

4. Possible solutions:
a) fix debian/control
b) exclude obsoleted DL-driver from package

Bug#457169: no, they are great

2007-12-21 Thread tim hall

Lucas Nussbaum wrote:

Hi

I think the fonts are nice as they are now. Too small makes it
unreadable and one needs to Ctrl+ everytime, which is bad.

But if zack follows zobels request to do JS stuff with the stylesheets
there could be an alternate stylesheet that has tiny fonts.

I haven't read the HTML source, nor the CSS. But if I remember
correctly, there are different ways to specify the font size in CSS (pt,
px, ...). Some of them take the screen size into account, some don't.
Maybe it's a related problem?

It is generally recommended to specify font-size in terms of 'small',
'medium', 'large' etc. Using a fixed size in px or pt etc. will nearly
always cause trouble. The alternative to JS hacks is to write XSL
stylesheets, however, I suspect something closer to Lars' suggestion is
going to be best in this case. ;)

Just the shrapnel I had left after the present buying marathon. ;p

Bug#456111: cvs: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by cvs)

Package: cvs

Justification: renders package unusable

cvs stoped working recently. On the client side I see the following error
message:

cvs [checkout aborted]: unrecognized auth response from CVSSERVER:
cvs: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by cvs)

There are two issues here:
1) On the server side (under debian/unstable) there is no directory /lib/tls/
2) Even when I make a symlink /lib/tls - /lib (where libc.so.6 resides), that
does not solve the problem and the
error message remains the same.

Hi Max,

I'm concerned by your bug report. I can't reproduce it here at all,
so I'm curious what your setup is:

 * what access method are you using for your repository? (I'm guessing
   pserver)
 * can you log on to the server and run cvs directly?
 * what auth setup do you have for the cvs server?

As I can't reproduce your problem, I'm reducing the severity a
little. The latest CVS upload contained only tiny changes from the
previous version, and at first sight your problems seem much more
likely to be a local configuration problem.

Thanks!

I've been unable to even get something usefull out of the CV stuff at all so
maybe you can supply a sample aswell.

Thanks.

Debian ships the 'lc_common' script as /usr/share/lustre/lc_common but
the lustre utilities expect it to be in /usr/lib/lustre/lc_common:
This issue is fixed in svn. We'll fix this in the debian archive within the
next upload of lustre.

Bug#448530: bug reproduced

2007-12-21 Thread Paul Metcalfe
I don't know that the linkage issues are the direct cause of this bug,
but they're pretty dodgy and in the right sort of area. Or are is the
problem something really baroque like stack alignment?

The backtrace on my machine looks similar.

[snip]

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xb7da18c0 (LWP 5659)]
0xb754bfb1 in ATL_dgemvT_a1_x1_b0_y1 () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3
(gdb) bt
#0 0xb754bfb1 in ATL_dgemvT_a1_x1_b0_y1 () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3
#1 0xb754463e in ATL_dgemv () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3

I think we've worked out that the problem is manifesting in _dotblas,
the optimized version of numpy.dot that uses CBLAS.

The obvious question --- why is the crash in the middle of libf77blas
? _dotblas should go straight to libcblas.so.

There is a filthy workaround... don't build _dotblas, in which case
numpy will fall back on slow internal code.

But I have yet to work out how to make distutils do anything it
doesn't want to (or not do anything it wants to).

Is there likely to be a new version of ATLAS lapack any time soon?
Is it still fouled up in the gfortran transition? ATLAS 3.8 ought to
be considerably easier to handle, since the upstream build process now
does all the shared library stuff on its own.

To the OP: the quick solution is to build your own atlas, lapack numpy. :-(

Ondrej: did you have a look at the compiler flags that numpy can
choose to use? Is there another latent bug here (manifesting in
anything that uses numpy.distutils)?

Severity: important
Version: 1.0~rc2-5

Hi,

the current version segfaults on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It is due to improperly applied part of patch from #448791.

Please apply part show bellow directly to debian/rules
and drop it from debian/patches/25kFreeBDS.dpatch

In the current situation, package is build for cpu on buildd,
which might be better compared to user one, this lead to segfault.

Thanks in advance

Petr

I might not be up to date, but why is XMMS to be removed?

 Gee, I'd miss it :^/

Dear Pawel,

The result is from this thread:

http://people.debian.org/~terpstra/message/20070702.155802.ad2e5b7d.en.html

But the actual reason is that it has been six years since upstream has
stopped development on GTK+ 1.x, and QA and release team have decided
to gradually phase it out. XMMS is among the showstoppers, and while
many will miss it, it has to go.

Note that this does not mean people cannot install older libgtk1 and
retain an older XMMS. It is just that it won't be supplied with stock
Debian anymore, if the removal goes through. Odds are that someone
will externally maintain it, so don't fret! :-)

When you decide to request removal of this package, please just
retitle and reassign this bug against ftp.debian.org.

Thanks!

Kumar

Cool thanks! I just fetched the package with apt-get source

Should we prepare a backport for current etch package ?

Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED], this could be a
candidate for a DSA. I will watch the migration to testing
and prepare a testing-security update if I encounter any
problems with it.

Kind regards

P.S. Why on earth did the peercast people reimplement the
c++ String class? ;-P

Bug#457318: ITP: qmail -- a secure, reliable, efficient, simple message transfer agent

2007-12-21 Thread Gerrit Pape
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

qmail is meant as a replacement for the entire sendmail-binmail system
on typical Internet-connected UNIX hosts. See BLURB, BLURB2, BLURB3, and
BLURB4 in /usr/share/doc/qmail/ for more detailed advertisements.

See /usr/share/doc/qmail/PIC.* for some ``end-to-end'' pictures of mail
flowing through the qmail system.

See http://pobox.com/~djb/qmail.html for other qmail-related software
and a pointer to the qmail mailing list.

Other documentation: http://pobox.com/~djb/proto.html shows solutions to
several Internet mail problems; many of these solutions are implemented
in qmail. CHANGES and THANKS show how qmail has changed since it was
first released; SECURITY, INTERNALS, THOUGHTS, and TODO record many of
the qmail design decisions (found in /usr/share/doc/qmail/).

License
qmail is in the public domain

There'll be the following binary packages: qmail, qmail-uid-gids,
fastforward, dot-forward, qmail-run. The packages are derived from
the unofficial ones available through
 http://smarden.org/pape/Debian/qmail.html

I don't know how isoinfo obtains the information, but it shows that

Bug#457311: on Apple ibook, the use of the external display freeze the system

With the new experimental xserver-xorg-video-ati my ibook freezes as soon as I
try to use the external display either booting with the monitor plugged or
booting without, plugging it and doing a xrandr --output vga-0 --auto.

[...]
I try to tail the syslog log by ssh when enabling the vga output but it gave
no result.

It is just a freeze of X then, not of the whole machine?

Did you look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

If there is something I can do to investigate further, just ask.

Did the behavior occur with earlier versions? We have had a lot of other
releases and snapshots from the 6.7.19x series in experimental in the
last months. You may find them back on http://snapshot.debian.net/.

The final 6.7.197 has been uploaded to unstable today, and a new
snapshot of the next 6.7.198 to experimental. It would be nice to try
with them first.

Then, please send the whole output of /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script
31 after the problem occurred (it will include xorg.conf and
Xorg.0.log among other things).

Both packages build-depend on libunicode-dev, but aren't linked against
it. Sounds like oldforgotten build-deps to me.

It seemed easier to remove libunicode now and deal with the
consequences. But I've filed bugs against dia and libgtk-perl to ask
them to remove libunicode from their b-deps.

Both bugs have now been fixed, so unblocking and tagging appropriately.

Adam
