Bug#456722: xmms-xf86audio: should this package be orphaned?
[ upstream author here, not the maintainer ] The xmms-xf86audio plugin is tightly tied to xmms. While it's possible that it could be rewritten to work with another audio player, most others already have the feature this plugin provides. I know audacious does, and last I looked none of the XMMS2 UIs were far enough along to need such a thing. Hi Ondrej! Am Donnerstag, den 20.12.2007, 20:13 +0100 schrieb Ondrej Certik: [ Some confusing about /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h not being a symlink ] No, I think this particular bug is solved. What do you think about the symlink problem? /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h is not a symlink because /usr/include/mpi is a symlink. The MPI packages place all their header files in a directory under /usr/lib/package/include (or alike) and provide a symlink to that directory named /usr/include/mpi. As a result, /u/i/m/mpi.h is a real file in a symlinked directory. There is no need for mpi.h being a symlink, as long as can be found in /usr/include somehow. You may like to have a look at libopenmpi-dev.postinst and/or lam4-dev.postinst to see how this works in practice. I hope that I was able answer your question. Bug#457250: Please add default configs for security.d.o, ubuntu, revu

I don't know if you have a policy on listing queues that aren't directly tied to Debian; it's fine with me if you don't want to add entries for ubuntu/revu, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. But IMHO the security queues should definitely be listed by default - especially now that there's an unembargoed security queue I think it's a good idea to support these by name to help users avoid accidentally making embargoed security fixes public. To be honest, if revu is a ubuntu-specific upload-queue, I would have a slight preference ubuntu-revu as a name. That said, it's not a big deal, so I'll just add some queues. Do you want to add typical Distribution: values as well or is that too much in flux with ubuntu? Bug#457274: libaspell15: Filter for Debian DDTP-files
Package: libaspell15 Version: 0.60.5-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hello I've written a simple filter for DDTP translations. It has made my life easier and I hope it could be useful also to other Debian users. The Debian Description Translation Project (DDTP) is an effort to provide translated package descriptions (see http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/ddtp). Contributors can submit their work as plain text files using an email interface. Since the files will always contain two languages (English and the target language) spell-checking can be a nuisance. This filter is an attempt to simplify spell-checking by ignoring comments and untranslated text. Two versions of the patch are attached: * a dpatch for the debian/control/patches directory. The patch was created for the 0.60.5-1 source package. * a tar.bz2 containing the filter files and a modified Makefile.am. Files must be manually integrated into the source tree, but it could improve patch ordering (the current dpatch is applied after the autotools dpatch). Sources are licensed under LGPL2 or later. With the current aspell licensing scheme this is (sadly) equivalent to LGPL 2.0 or 2.1 in practice. I've chosen to use or later since it would allow the ddtp-filter to be used if upstream moves to LGPL3. If the differing licenses are perceived as a problem, I would be willing to use the same licensing terms as aspell itself (although it shouldn't be necessary). The proposed filter is Debian-specific and has not been submitted upstream. /Christer -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-can-071209 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash #! /bin/sh /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch-run ## 15_ddtp_filter.dpatch by [EMAIL PROTECTED] ## ## All lines beginning with `## DP:' are a description of the patch. ## DP: Filter for Debian DDTP-emails @DPATCH@ diff -urNad aspell-0.60.5~/Makefile.am aspell-0.60.5/Makefile.am --- aspell-0.60.5~/Makefile.am 2007-12-20 23:09:52.0 +0100 +++ aspell-0.60.5/Makefile.am 2007-12-21 00:42:10.0 +0100 @@ -161,7 +161,8 @@ modules/filter/html-filter.info\ modules/filter/context-filter.info\ modules/filter/nroff-filter.info\ - modules/filter/texinfo-filter.info + modules/filter/texinfo-filter.info\ + modules/filter/ddtp-filter.info ### Add all your aspell mode files ### fltfiles = \ @@ -176,7 +177,8 @@ modules/filter/modes/url.amf \ modules/filter/modes/comment.amf \ modules/filter/modes/nroff.amf\ - modules/filter/modes/texinfo.amf + modules/filter/modes/texinfo.amf\ + modules/filter/modes/ddtp.amf if COMPILE_IN_FILTERS @@ -192,7 +194,8 @@ modules/filter/sgml.cpp\ modules/filter/context.cpp\ modules/filter/nroff.cpp\ - modules/filter/texinfo.cpp + modules/filter/texinfo.cpp\ + modules/filter/ddtp.cpp else # not COMPILE_IN_FILTERS @@ -203,7 +206,8 @@ ### must look like libfiltername-filter.la see development manual filter_LTLIBRARIES = debctrl-filter.la email-filter.la tex-filter.la\ sgml-filter.la context-filter.la\ - nroff-filter.la texinfo-filter.la + nroff-filter.la texinfo-filter.la\ + ddtp-filter.la debctrl_filter_la_SOURCES = modules/filter/debctrl.cpp debctrl_filter_la_LIBADD = libaspell.la @@ -233,6 +237,10 @@ texinfo_filter_la_LIBADD = libaspell.la texinfo_filter_la_LDFLAGS = ${filter_ldflags} +ddtp_filter_la_SOURCES = modules/filter/ddtp.cpp +ddtp_filter_la_LIBADD = libaspell.la +ddtp_filter_la_LDFLAGS = ${filter_ldflags} + ### Before this line add the corresponding yourfilterlibrary_SOURCES and ### yourfilterlibrary_LIBADD lines. Bug#403314: kdict_applet invisible popup in vertical mode
Looking at the source, I think it is not supposed to show a text entry box in vertical mode, but it is supposed to pop one up when clicked. It seems to pop up an invisible window and pass focus to it. I couldn't figure out how to get appletproxy to pretend to be a vertical panel, so I'm stuck for the moment as far as debugging this. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#457278: libmodplug-dev: libmodplug.pc should use Libs.private
Package: libmodplug-dev Version: 1:0.7-7 Tags: upstream patch Hi Zed, /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libmodplug.pc currently has the following line: Libs: -L${libdir} -lmodplug -lstdc++ -lm But libstdc++ and libm are not needed in order to dynamically link against libmodplug, so this should be changed to: Libs: -L${libdir} -lmodplug Libs.private: -lstdc++ -lm This is useful for the case of programs written in C that link to libmodplug, which would pull in this line and try to link against libstdc++ - causing failures in some corner cases: http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=xine-libarch=armver=1.1.8-4stamp=1198198360file=logas=raw So while it only has a minor impact on helping to prune unnecessary library dependencies, it will help make our packages more robust. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libmodplug-dev depends on: ii libmodplug0c2 1:0.7-7shared libraries for mod music bas libmodplug-dev recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#456934: Add option to select the build dependency check algorithm
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On Wed, 19 Dec 2007, Roger Leigh wrote: Michael Banck [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: On Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 08:10:37AM +0100, Jan-Marek Glogowski wrote: Isn't it usual sbuild behaviour to only try the first package of a set of alternatives? Currently yes, but I consider this a bug. The patched code already runs in a loop to check for all alternatives, but it currently fails, if it can't satisfy a versioned dependency. Maybe this is a divergence of the sbuild package from upstream sbuild then. Fact is that the buildds will show this behaviour, so I am not sure changing it in the sbuild package is the best solution. ... However, I wouldn't be opposed to adding a command-line and/or configuration option which would allow the user to alter this, so long as it is not the default behaviour. Adding a variable to Sbuild/Conf.pm is pretty easy, as is a new command-line option. If you would like to make a patch for that, that would be super. Ok - I have attached a new patch to make the dependeny check algorith select and configureable. Default is the old behaviour, but it can be changed to check for alternatives via sbuild argument (-C) or by changing check_depends_algorithm in the SBUILD BEHAVIOUR config group. Tested with the bzr-svn package, which still fails with default, but finishes with the alternatives algorithm. Bug#457169: no, they are great
Lucas Nussbaum wrote: On 20/12/07 at 14:09 +0100, Joerg Jaspert wrote: Hi I think the fonts are nice as they are now. Too small makes it unreadable and one needs to Ctrl+ everytime, which is bad. But if zack follows zobels request to do JS stuff with the stylesheets there could be an alternate stylesheet that has tiny fonts. I haven't read the HTML source, nor the CSS. But if I remember correctly, there are different ways to specify the font size in CSS (pt, px, ...). Some of them take the screen size into account, some don't. Maybe it's a related problem? It is generally recommended to specify font-size in terms of 'small', 'medium', 'large' etc. Using a fixed size in px or pt etc. will nearly always cause trouble. The alternative to JS hacks is to write XSL stylesheets, however, I suspect something closer to Lars' suggestion is going to be best in this case. ;) Just the shrapnel I had left after the present buying marathon. ;p cheers, tim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. On the client side I see the following error message: cvs [checkout aborted]: unrecognized auth response from CVSSERVER: cvs: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by cvs) There are two issues here: 1) On the server side (under debian/unstable) there is no directory /lib/tls/ 2) Even when I make a symlink /lib/tls - /lib (where libc.so.6 resides), that does not solve the problem and the error message remains the same. Hi Max, I'm concerned by your bug report. I can't reproduce it here at all, so I'm curious what your setup is: * what access method are you using for your repository? (I'm guessing pserver) * can you log on to the server and run cvs directly? * what auth setup do you have for the cvs server? As I can't reproduce your problem, I'm reducing the severity a little. The latest CVS upload contained only tiny changes from the previous version, and at first sight your problems seem much more likely to be a local configuration problem. Bug#457226: linux-image-2.6.22-3-amd64: repeated kernel BUGs in free_buffer_head
On Thu, 20 Dec 2007, Graham Cobb wrote: I recently upgraded to the latest lenny kernel: 2.6.22-3-amd64. This evening, during a period of about 40 minutes, I have had the same kernel BUG occur 5 times. The most recent two are shown in the kernel log extract below. Note that these occur in random processes and seem unrelated to any particular action. However, note that this system performs fairly heavy NFS activity, both read and write as both client and server. This has appeared to be implicated in previous problems and may be relevant to this one. Also note that this is a dual core system. your kernel is tainted which in principle voids any support from us. as proprietary code base is not known and thus not fixable. try 2.6.23 from unstable just installs fine in testing. -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#448530: bug reproduced
I don't know that the linkage issues are the direct cause of this bug, but they're pretty dodgy and in the right sort of area. Or are is the problem something really baroque like stack alignment? The backtrace on my machine looks similar. [snip] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread 0xb7da18c0 (LWP 5659)] 0xb754bfb1 in ATL_dgemvT_a1_x1_b0_y1 () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3 (gdb) bt #0 0xb754bfb1 in ATL_dgemvT_a1_x1_b0_y1 () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3 #1 0xb754463e in ATL_dgemv () from /usr/lib/sse2/libf77blas.so.3 I think we've worked out that the problem is manifesting in _dotblas, the optimized version of numpy.dot that uses CBLAS. The obvious question --- why is the crash in the middle of libf77blas ? _dotblas should go straight to libcblas.so. There is a filthy workaround... don't build _dotblas, in which case numpy will fall back on slow internal code. But I have yet to work out how to make distutils do anything it doesn't want to (or not do anything it wants to). Is there likely to be a new version of ATLAS lapack any time soon? Is it still fouled up in the gfortran transition? ATLAS 3.8 ought to be considerably easier to handle, since the upstream build process now does all the shared library stuff on its own. To the OP: the quick solution is to build your own atlas, lapack numpy. :-( Ondrej: did you have a look at the compiler flags that numpy can choose to use? Is there another latent bug here (manifesting in anything that uses numpy.distutils)? -- pdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? XMMS is among the showstoppers, and while many will miss it, it has to go. Note that this does not mean people cannot install older libgtk1 and retain an older XMMS. I will investigate the possibilities of porting it to some of the alternatives, though I'm generally disappointed by them, only audacious being like the old xmms. I don't know how isoinfo obtains the information, but it shows that the files are on the CD, with the correct names (FYI, the CD can be read without any problem under Mac OS X, and this is consistent to what isoinfo gives). Bug#457311: on Apple ibook, the use of the external display freeze the system

[...] I try to tail the syslog log by ssh when enabling the vga output but it gave no result. It is just a freeze of X then, not of the whole machine? Did you look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log? If there is something I can do to investigate further, just ask. Did the behavior occur with earlier versions? We have had a lot of other releases and snapshots from the 6.7.19x series in experimental in the last months. You may find them back on http://snapshot.debian.net/. The final 6.7.197 has been uploaded to unstable today, and a new snapshot of the next 6.7.198 to experimental. It would be nice to try with them first. Then, please send the whole output of /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31 after the problem occurred (it will include xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log among other things). Both packages build-depend on libunicode-dev, but aren't linked against it. Sounds like oldforgotten build-deps to me. It seemed easier to remove libunicode now and deal with the consequences. But I've filed bugs against dia and libgtk-perl to ask them to remove libunicode from their b-deps. Both bugs have now been fixed, so unblocking and tagging appropriately.
