I see that Debian is still at gpm-1.19.6, although there seems to have
been packaging attempts about 3 years ago. So, what's up ? I have been
doing some packages for Debian lately. So if guys are busy I would try
to do the work, but I think I will need someone to supervise me for

I just did a recompile using up-to-date Sid packages, and I can't
reproduce the problems you're seeing...all images seem correct.
Could you perhaps try a new compile from a clean source tree with
up-to-date packages?
