Bug#482576: Review of the copyright file for ntfs-config_1.0.1-1.dsc.
user debian-le...@lists.debian.org usertags 482576 one-copyright-review thanks Dear Igor and Dmitry, In the hope of speeding up and strenghtening the processing of NEW I had a look at your package. The rationale is explained in the proposal in the following wiki page: http://wiki.debian.org/CopyrightReview I found that the copryights for the translations were not mentionned. All .po files are Copyright (c) 2007 Rosetta Contributors and Canonical Ltd 2007 except fr.po and ca.po. I do not know however if this omission is enough for your upload to be rejected. Nevertheless if you chose to re-upload a corrected version it will not affect the order at wich your package will be processed in the NEW queue. Bug#543473: Dovecot should be started before MTA.
Hi, I am not sure the sequence number 20 is the best for dovecot to start before the MTA: Postfix and nullmailer also use 20 as start sequence number, I guess it is the same for other MTAs. If a MTA's name begins with a letter from a to d (until dou), dovecot will still start after this MTA. A lower sequence number would be more appropriate. BTW, while newly installed packages will be correctly set up, the symlinks are not updated when upgrading from the previous version. I think it should be done, provided the symlinks haven't been changed by the user. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#514827: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the root-system package
Dear maintainer of root-system and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the root-system Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl it pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: da pt_BR If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the root-system package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, September 05, 2009. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Tuesday, August 25, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Sunday, August 30, 2009 : send this notice Saturday, September 05, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Sunday, September 06, 2009 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Tuesday, September 08, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: root-sys...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2009-02-15 12:03+0100\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. I will have a look at this and fix it asap (might take a few days). It's not a feature, but a bug, to clarify that. Finally, update-manger-gnome conflicts with update-notifier. Now I am not seeing an update available notification when updates are available. Is a newer update-notifier coming or is update-manager-gnome suppose to notify? A new update-notifier, that is built from the update-manager source package is in the works right now, however, the problem seems to be in the update-notifier package, as it depends on update-manager (which has been replaced by update-manager-gnome). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#542159: clive: please add support for extracting video urls
On Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 09:26:31AM +0200, Helmut Grohne wrote: clive seems to be like the perfect video downloading application. However extracting video (data) urls does not seem to be among the supported features (not even by parsing debug output). I imagine something like youtube-dl -g URL which just prints the url of the flv file. This can then easily be passed to mplayer and thus saves bandwidth when I abort playing the video early. The reason for not using youtube-dl is that clive supports more sites. There's a --stream-exec option available and the additional parameter --stream-pass passes the URL to the given CMD. There's even an example for mplayer availble. clive --quiet --stream-exec=echo %i --stream-pass URL should output the download URL for the given video. Bug#542333: Work around
* Torsten Landschoff (t.landsch...@gmx.net) [090830 11:32]: I was just asked on IRC what the status of this bug is. Sorry for not updating this report with the premature information I gathered. I digged the gdal project and SWIG documentation to find out who is at fault here. So far I was unable to find out of SWIG behaves correctly, all these typemaps are kind of aspect oriented and I always find it hard to trace what should be going on. However, I found two upstream (gdal) bug tracker entries about this: http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2954 talks about the generic SWIG induced breakage and includes a fix (or work around). http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2928 has a fix which works for C#. http://bugs.debian.org/543629 contains an proposed fix that I will NMU now. Sorry for not updateing this bug report earlier. Cheers, Andi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#510223: How to avoid device name related kernel panics after dist(/automated kernel)-upgrade
On Sun, Sep 12, 2004 at 12:23:32PM +0300, Martin-?ric Racine wrote: Package: grub Severity: important I have been wondering for a long time why the menu.lst gets automatically updated on a single host out of my whole i386 cluster. The answer seems to be that update-grub won't automatically run whenever upgrading or removing kernel-images, because the following hooks are missing in /etc/kernel-img.conf: # Update the GRUB menu postrm_hook = /sbin/update-grub postinst_hook = /sbin/update-grub Given how Debian standardizes on GRUB starting with Sarge, it would be important that GRUB's installation scripts add the above lines to /etc/kernel-img.conf automatically, upon installing or upgrading GRUB. This would be easy to implement and would save the end-user a lot of troubles, thus making Debian more user-friendly. Dear Debian Developers. you receive this mail because I just cant get a clear view how to solve my following problem and to which bug it belongs to. Please dont bite my head (filing a new bug probably would be even worse). In the hope to get a clearing answer I CC debian-devel. Applying a recent security update of linux-2.6 (DSA-1872-1) in lenny the system suddenly seemed unbootable (at least for a person without any debian skills). The reason was a _silent_ reconfiguration of device names. My wish: * please provide a (half) automated, maybe interactive, way to verify the configuration of fstab / menu.lst (and related) in any matching postinst script * in #debian-devel i got the hint to switch from device names to UUIDs - is there a way to provide this automatically? * will UUIDs according to rfc4122 ever be default in debian? To me this problem doesn't seem to be grub specific, or do LILO and GRUB2 have a solution for it? #271269 grub - how to deal with /etc/kernel-img.conf and update-grub on kernel-image changes Maybe dpkg triggers is the answer (we have a separate bug for that, IIRC). #499176 grub - should fail verbosely when root device cannot be found update-grub needs to identify the current root in order to construct grub.cfg / menu.lst. fstab was not reliable, so it's no longer being used. #510223 grub - linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: upgrade from etch to lenny fails in postinst update-grub is supplied by grub, this looks like #499176. Bug#537778: pdksh should not attempt to become /bin/sh
severity 537778 wishlist retitle 537778 remove outdated code from maintainer scripts thanks Raphael Geissert writes: Hi, The postinst tries to replace /bin/sh if it was already pointing to ksh, but Yes, the code is to support the /bin/ksh to /bin/pdksh conversion in order not to leave the users who had made theirs /bin/sh pointing to /bin/ksh without a working /bin/sh. Such a link must have been added by users by hand, there has never been any code in the package that would help them with making theirs /bin/sh link pointing to pdksh. As the conversion took place 4 years ago, I'm going to remove the support code in next upload. pdksh is far away from being a suitable sh replacement. I've been using it as my /bin/sh for about 9 or 10 years without any bigger problems. It doesn't even implement some basic features widely used in the archive which are *required* by policy. One example of such a feature is support for local variables. pdksh do support local variables. Since you do not quote here what you are answering, I am not sure at all what are you answering. It is usually nice quote exaclty what you are answering, it is one of the problems I have found to follow and understand you correctly in this bug report. My fault, sorry. 1. Upstream main author is David Villa, which clearly stated *his* release policy and clearly refused to change it. I try to respect upstream opinions as much as Debian allows it. You do not have to change David's release policy at all. Actually, in this case, for what I have seen, David does not have any release policy, he does Obviously you didn't even tried to contact David. You didn't even tried to see the upstream head, which enforces *his* release policy. not release tarballs, and even if he did, you are not affected but his release policy to be forced to ship binary packages. Wrong (Cf. Debian Policy 3.2.1) For what I have seen in the package, the versions that are being uploaded are numbered after the date YYMMDD from a checkout of the code in the SVN and this code include a debian/ directory. Wrong, versions (and releases) are changed at commit time. The current head generates versions and releases at commit time, see upstream head. Let me explain you the way this is usually handled in Debian: CASE A) (easy case) When upstream release tarballs with the debian/ dir. This happens from time to time. Maintainer usually ask upstream to drop this directory from the tarballs and in the meanwhile (or if upstream just do not care), the maintainer repackage upstream's tarball to remove this directory. Not in this case. The maintainer is a developer. It wouldn't make much sense to ask himself to remove the debian directory. CASE B) (complicated case) upstream does not do releases at all and has debian/ in their repo. It seems to be the case here. In short, maintainer do a svn checkout, version it someway, package it and upload it. And follows Debian policy 3.2.1. He uses the same version numbers of upstream code. More lengthy: since there are not releases maintainers ned to version it, usually people start with a 0 and use the svn revision, for example, for the revision 56 of atheist, you could number it: 0.svn56 or 0.0.svn56, so it indicates in the version number exacty what revision is, which is quite handy when bug reports are filed to upstream. Using the date as it is being used in atheist is not a good idea, what if you need to do 2 or more uploads in the same day due to upstream changes? There is a release, although is not an orthodox release. Read the source and talk to David, much better than using the BTS for this. If in the future upstream starts releasing and it breaks your invented revision number, you can use an epoch. Indeed David already provides something like an epoch in his release scheme. See atheist.py from svn. Whan packaging, packager put this fictional version number and then the packaging revision with -X. About the debian/ dir, you just ignore it and if it is the case you are using that debian/ then you add it later. Not the case, the maintainer cannot ignore his own debian directory. In this case, of fictional versions it is a very good idea ask your sponsoree add a get-orig-source: rule in his debian/rules, so you can fetch the code exaclty as the sponsoree did and just the version he wants to upload easily. Fictional versions are only appropriate if the upstream release scheme does not work for Debian. It is not the case. No, you won't find about get-orig-source: in the policy, that does not mean you can not use it, if you google it you will see how useful it is for a lot of people, even for one of the policy maintainers: http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/notes/debian/scripts.htmlhttp://www.eyrie.org/%7Eeagle/notes/debian/scripts.html there you can find some info of how to implement and use the get-orig-source: target. Yeah, sounds quite easy. You are basically asking upstream to use two branches to maintain a 32KiB package just to cope with your best practices and it wouldn't get you anything (see below). And you know what it is very good about
Bug#542621: aide: new feature: ignore files changed by system updates
On Sat, Aug 22, 2009 at 07:44:30PM +0200, Hannes von Haugwitz wrote: I'd like to see such a feature in aide package. The attached patch improves your patch insofar as it really filters the aide run log instead of just concatenating the filtered and non-filtered output. Additionally I added a new option to also filter changed files from new packages. And your patch doesn't completely kill the noise feature, which is something I'd hate to lose. On the other hand, the new code has like six temporary files (I actually stopped counting at some point), and is rather complex for the daily cron job. I am not yet convinced whether this is desireable, and I'd probably prefer the method of re-running aide after doing system updates. Is it really necessary to have a temp file orgy like this, or is this maybe the point where the shell script should be rewritten in a real programming language? Bug#544223: argyll uses embedded yajl
John Stamp, 2009-08-29 11:46:11 -0700 : Argyll embeds an old version of yajl (0.3.0) in its source code. Now that yajl is in Debian, I'm attaching a patch that lets it compile against the system yajl instead. Great idea, thanks for the package and the patch :-) Note: Argyll modified yajl's API so argyll's jcnf can save comments. But from what I can see, ucmm/ucmm.c is the only file that uses jcnf, and it doesn't take advantage of that feature. So even though the patch comments out a bit of argyll's code, it shouldn't affect its functionality. I'm less enthusiastic about that part. I did replace the embedded and patched libusb, but the local patches weren't adding functionality. In this case, you're removing functionality from argyll even though it appears not to be used currently. Since I try to stick to upstream as much as I can, I'd rather not go this way. I'd much prefer the patch to be included in yajl, preferably upstream. I updated your patch so the system yajl library is detected by the configure script and only used if present (attached for reference). I also committed it into a separate branch for now, but I will pull it into the integration branch and update the package accordingly as soon as the above problem is fixed. === modified file 'Makefile.shared' --- Makefile.shared 2009-05-29 17:02:43 + +++ Makefile.shared 2009-08-30 11:30:46 + @@ -6,7 +6,7 @@ -I$(top_srcdir)/numlib -I$(top_srcdir)/plot -I$(top_srcdir)/profile \ -I$(top_srcdir)/render -I$(top_srcdir)/rspl -I$(top_srcdir)/spectro \ -I$(top_srcdir)/target -I$(top_srcdir)/ucmm -I$(top_srcdir)/xicc \ -$(TIFF_CFLAGS) $(ICC_CFLAGS) +$(TIFF_CFLAGS) $(ICC_CFLAGS) $(YAJL_CFLAGS) # Build libs in other dirs when required ../%.la: === modified file 'configure.ac' --- configure.ac 2009-07-03 11:56:39 + +++ configure.ac 2009-08-30 11:30:46 + @@ -28,6 +28,18 @@ AC_SUBST([ICC_CFLAGS]) AC_SUBST([ICC_SUBDIRS]) +AC_CHECK_LIB(yajl, yajl_free, HAVE_YAJL=true, , -lm) +if test $HAVE_YAJL = true ; then + YAJL_LIBS=-lyajl +else + YAJL_LIBS='$(top_srcdir)/jcnf/yajl/libyajl.la' + YAJL_CFLAGS='-I$(top_srcdir)/jcnf/yajl' + YAJL_SUBDIRS='yajl' +fi +AC_SUBST([YAJL_LIBS]) +AC_SUBST([YAJL_CFLAGS]) +AC_SUBST([YAJL_SUBDIRS]) + AC_CHECK_LIB(X11, XOpenDisplay, X_LIBS=$X_LIBS -lX11) AC_CHECK_LIB(Xext, XextFindDisplay, X_LIBS=$X_LIBS -lXext,,-lX11) AC_CHECK_LIB(Xss, XScreenSaverSuspend, X_LIBS=$X_LIBS -lXss,,-lXext -lX11) === modified file 'jcnf/Makefile.am' --- jcnf/Makefile.am 2009-05-13 15:10:14 + +++ jcnf/Makefile.am 2009-08-30 11:30:46 + @@ -2,15 +2,15 @@ include $(top_srcdir)/Makefile.shared -SUBDIRS = yajl +SUBDIRS = $(YAJL_SUBDIRS) privatelib_LTLIBRARIES = libjcnf.la privatelibdir = $(pkglibdir) libjcnf_la_SOURCES = jcnf.h jcnf.c -libjcnf_la_LIBADD = yajl/libyajl.la +libjcnf_la_LIBADD = $(YAJL_LIBS) -LDADD = ./libjcnf.la yajl/libyajl.la +LDADD = ./libjcnf.la $(YAJL_LIBS) check_PROGRAMS = test === modified file 'jcnf/jcnf.c' --- jcnf/jcnf.c 2008-11-16 13:45:00 + +++ jcnf/jcnf.c 2009-08-30 11:30:46 + @@ -42,9 +42,9 @@ #include string.h #include math.h -#include yajl/yajl_common.h -#include yajl/yajl_gen.h -#include yajl/yajl_parse.h +#include yajl/yajl_common.h +#include yajl/yajl_gen.h +#include yajl/yajl_parse.h #include jcnf.h === modified file 'spectro/Makefile.am' --- spectro/Makefile.am 2009-05-29 17:02:43 + +++ spectro/Makefile.am 2009-08-30 11:30:46 + @@ -22,7 +22,7 @@ ../numlib/libargyllnum.la ./libinst.la ../libargyll.la LDADD = ./libinsttypes.la ./libdisp.la ./libinst.la ../ucmm/libucmm.la \ - ../jcnf/libjcnf.la ../jcnf/yajl/libyajl.la ../xicc/libxicc.la \ + ../jcnf/libjcnf.la $(YAJL_LIBS) ../xicc/libxicc.la \ ../xicc/libxcolorants.la $(ICC_LIBS) ../cgats/libcgats.la \ ../rspl/librspl.la ../gamut/libgamut.la ../target/libtarget.la \ ../plot/libplot.la ../numlib/libargyllnum.la $(X_LIBS) -lusb Thanks, Roland. -- Roland Mas Qu'est-ce qui est jaune, qui pèse deux cents kilos et qui chante ? Bug#544230: minirok segfaults when I Open Directory
+ David Bremner (Sat, 29 Aug 2009 17:50:33 -0300): Package: minirok Version: 2.0-1 Severity: important Minirok doesn't seem to work at all for me. If I try to open a directory either from the file menu or by Ctrl-F, it segfaults. According to the bug reporting wizard, my backtrace info is not useful, probably because I miss debug information. The only thing I can think of that is unusual about this sid box is that I am running xmonad as a window manager. Hello, David. Thank you for your bug report. This is indeed a known issue in 2.0 which has been fixed for the upcoming 2.1 version. If you want to give Minirok a second try, the easiest way is to type a directory by hand in the text box first; afterwards the Open directory dialog will work normally. FWIW the commit that fixes the issue is: http://git.debian.org/?p=users/adeodato/minirok.git;a=commitdiff;h=8138f1 Sorry about the low quality bug report; I was shopping for an audio player, and I thought should at least report all of the reasons I rejected options. Does support mean that it actually does mirror trace files, or is it optional? If you use --rsync-extra=trace they will be mirrored, so it's optional in the sense that you do have to use that parameter. Well, then that sadly doesn't actually fix the bug that I had reported. We (still) don't want Debian mirrors in the wild without the trace files, ever, because then our own checking scripts have a hard time with figuring out where the mirror is updated from, as do any non-local users, obviously. It also (continues to) set a bad precedent to have something called 'debmirror' conflict with Debian's official mirror documentation. :) -- 2. If I open the discussion in -devel then I would need to allocate enough time to collect opinions, summarize, etc. I'm sorry but my time is limited right now. Things may change in the future, but I consider this a minor issue and indeed we all agreed to fix this in the next release, even when I didn't find *any* convincing argument. Like I said, I only installed the version from backports.org to see if it would fix the bug. I've now purged and downgraded the networkmanager packages to versions from lenny. As for the kernel; there's no point downgrading to the kernel in stable, since it lacks drivers for the wireless interface, and even the driver for the ethernet interface doesn't work in 2.6.26. :( If the rfkill state is not correctly detected, it's more likely a problem of hal, so you might start checking there first.
