Source: csound Version: 1:5.12.1~dfsg-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch User: pkg-tcltk-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: UpgradeDefaultTclTkTo85 Hi Felipe and Jonas, To suss out possible problems before making the change for real, it would be nice if most packages depending on tcl-dev were built against version 8.5 in experimental. As discussed on debian-release[1], this requires sourceful uploads to introduce versioned build-deps on tcl-dev, tcl, etc, since experimental buildds are a little fussy about where they get their build-deps from[2]. Rebuilding csound locally, I did not run into any problems. tclcsound builds fine against version 8.5, has the correct dependencies, and examples run okay. I did not test if sound works but it noticed my sound card. To all appearances, everything is fine --- nice job. :) Anyway, here is a patch to help others test the change. Once the updated tcltk-defaults migrates to sid, this change would be useless; patch is against master but intended for experimental only. Everything related to working online (including the Work offline menu item) was grayed out. What's worse, there is no feedback from evolution as to why it would not allow me to get my new email. After fighting pidgin on a netbook for hours I guessed the problem is the same thing: Without asking the user or leaving any loophole, the $%!$ software relies on the indication of network-manager if the system is online. However, I did not willingly install network manager on this system. I wanted to try the current KDE and installing kde pulled network manager in. Given that I don't want a complex software managing my GBit local ethernet adapter (ifup works fine, while network-manager has failed me many times), I went ahead and removed network-manager and anything related from my system. After restarting evolution, I can now use it again. Having to fight the system to tell it that the network is in fact available feels like the worst days of Windows usage for me. Can we stop going that user-friendly route? I am not directly opposed to using network-manager as indication that the system is offline. However, it should be easy to find out (using a tooltip on the grayed menu entry, anything that pops up automatically). I consider refusing to work without any indication as quite childish. As you can see from the length of the email, this tripped a nerve for me. I hope you can understand my point and coordinate with upstream to improve the situation. Thanks for your work! found 562766 6.8-3 found 562766 7.1-1 thanks In both 6.8-3 and 7.1-1, I experienced the problem that Stephe reported, i.e. (gdb) catch throw Function __cxa_throw not defined. Catchpoint 1 (throw) I believe this all depends on whether the debuggee includes object code compiled from C++ or not. But if I try from an X terminal, or run sleep 5 acpi_fakekey 5 (and then immediately switch to X and wait), there are no effects whatsoever. After some tries, the event queue gets full and I start seeing ACPI Virtual Keyboard Device: dropping event due to full queue! in Xorg log; this never happens if I use acpi_fakekey while using the console. Bug#575534: libc6: periodic timers hang fork()
Hi, Am Mittwoch, den 19.05.2010, 20:47 +0200 schrieb Aurelien Jarno: I don't think it is possible to disable the timers while running clone in the libc side. POSIX 2008 is explicit about how signals should be delivered, and doing that would create a small window of time that violates POSIX 2008. I guess the kernel behaviour of restarting the clone syscall in that case is also to not violate POSIX 2008. the ghc compiler was now patched to disable the timers around fork()/clone(). I did not yet test whether this fixed the problems we observe on the buildds. Thomas, in your case, I guess the bug needs to be reassigned against gcc, as it might be an error in the profiling code created by gcc. Bug#582373: psi: status notification flood the screen
Package: psi Version: 0.11-9 Severity: wishlist Hi, I want to see status notifications, but they often occur in floods, and they take up much too much screen real estate. Esp. with GTalk friends, useless status notifications are apparently being sent periodically, instead of only on actual status changes. This results in my often seeing overly large boxen stacked in the bottom right corner of the screen, obscuring the windows that I have there. It would be really nice if the status notification could be re-worked to require only a fixed amount of screen real estate, eg. in a scrollable window, that I can control via configuration and/or place where I see fit. Perl diagnostic output and needs to be updated again. That turned out to be a wrong diagnosis of the problem. The real cause is a change in Perl internals where G_{ARRAY,VOID,SCALAR} aren't separate bits anymore. http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commit/2f8edad0d37e91319b6ba10b3745327ea49c179b This seems rather contradictory with perlcall.pod, specifically this passage: FLAG VALUES The flags parameter in all the call_* functions is a bit mask which can consist of any combination of the symbols defined below, OR'ed together. so I'm cloning a bug against perl-doc. There's also another problem: SVType(sv) == SVt_RV is now true for integers as well, as SVt_RV and SVt_IV were merged for 5.12. However, integers can't generally be referenced, leading to core dumps and the like. The right way to check for a reference is to use the SvROK() macro. Two patches attached, the tests pass for me with these on both 5.10.1 and 5.12.1. Please note that the G_ARRAY solution is suboptimal and needs a build-dependency on perl (= 5.10.1). -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org From 108ddf774e2965dd6238a9107084abd26fbe08d6 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org Date: Thu, 20 May 2010 11:18:11 +0300 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] G_{VOID,SCALAR,ARRAY} aren't separate bits anymore with Perl 5.12 As of http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commit/2f8edad0d37e91319b6ba10b3745327ea49c179b G_{VOID,SCALAR,ARRAY} aren't really separate bits that can be OR'd together This is somewhat contradictory to perlcall.pod, and there's no public interface for checking if G_ARRAY is set in the flags before call_sv(), so use the undocumented G_WANT mask for now. This works starting with 5.10.1. It's possible that just comparing for equality with G_ARRAY would do, as no code path seems to set any other flag bits before calling EvalAll(). Bug#580714: debian-installer: build installer image for Buffalo Linkstation Pro/Live
* Ryan Tandy tarp...@gmail.com [2010-05-19 20:07]: Reading that message again reminded me that I did not implement a test for the bootloader version. A note in the documentation recommending the latest firmware revision might suffice, but I'll also have a look at how the u-boot version might be detected from userspace. Running 'strings' over the u-boot partition might work, but I'm not sure if 'strings' is included in the LSPro firmware. I doubt it is. I'm not sure if there's another reliable way to figure out the version. So indeed that line should read: $SETENV bootargs_root root=/dev/sda2 rw panic=5 precisely as in Tim's email. Ok, great. Bug#582382: rinputd: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: rinputd Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Sunday, May 02, 2010, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for rinputd. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading rinputd with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, May 23, 2010, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Sunday, June 13, 2010. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Monday, June 14, 2010, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- rinputd.old/debian/templates2010-04-28 22:27:59.571513752 +0200 +++ rinputd/debian/templates2010-05-20 07:16:41.270938796 +0200 @@ -1,24 +1,29 @@ -Template: rinputd/about -Type: text -_Description: Configure the rinputd sasl username and password - The following two prompts will help you set up a new sasl user account and - password. Bug#582383: libc6: When creating/removing a lot of interfaces it's possible to trigger an abort in glibc's getifaddrs
Package: libc6 Version: 2.7-18lenny2 Severity: important Tags: patch Because of this bug in libc, ladvd (and perhaps other softwares) can trigger an abort() in libc when network interfaces change (up/down, create destroy) rapidly. I've noticed this with ladvd, and contacted its developer to clarify the issue, thus please allow me to quote from a conversation with Sten Spans - author and maintainer of the ladvd software -, as this will describe the problem precisely: Sten Spans I think I've found the issue. When creating/removing a lot of interfaces I'm able to trigger an abort in glibc's getifaddrs: #0 0x7fd2727604b5 in *__GI_raise (sig=value optimized out) at ../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/raise.c:64 #1 0x7fd272763f50 in *__GI_abort () at abort.c:92 #2 0x7fd27282e9d8 in map_newlink (ifap=value optimized out) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ifaddrs.c:320 #3 *__GI_getifaddrs (ifap=value optimized out) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ifaddrs.c:751 #4 0x00407987 in netif_fetch (ifc=value optimized out, ifl=value optimized out, sysinfo=0x616c40, netifs=0x616c20) at netif.c:140 This issue has already been fixed in upstream glibc a few weeks ago with the following patch: http://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commitdiff;h=b8b14c4cc38883032b8ebae50c9a8b3efd256483 It would be great if you could verify that this is indeed the issue. The sad thing is that I'm not quite sure how to solve this without patching glibc. - I was able reproduce this abort on ~180 machines with a lot of interfaces which are going up/down at a great pace. On Thu, 20 May 2010 00:54:45 +0200, Michael wrote: If I put the printfs in front of the if-statement, the zoom problem vanishes and the correct output (4x false) is given. Sorry, but this clearly points to described problem with extended precision and floating point comparison. Putting printfs in front forces saving values from x87 registers (long double) to memory (double), and restore expected behavior (-ffloat-store would force something similar globally). (And something says me, that if you'd use single printf call in your debug code, and not series of printfs, result would false false false true instead (for same reason: in your test code previous printf calls caused x87 register flush, and changed result of last comparison).) Well, there can be /also/ gcc bug, but these comparisons look very fragile and should be fixed anyway (or, at least, workarounded by gcc option). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#582035: Explanation of Bug #582035.
Well, I'm going to explain what's wrong with the current postinstall ppp-udeb script and what is considered to be done by the previously posted patch. First of all, the problem appears when you try to install the latest daily build of Debian netinst using PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE). After probing and setting up network hardware a PPPoE setup begins with concentrator discovery, which however fails. In logs you can see a string: pppoe probe output size: 15 (for me) - which means the concentrator is actually found. To understand what's wrong look at the original ppp_concentrator_on() function in the attached file. As you can see pppoe-discovery is started in the background, then its output through some pipelines is written to /tmp/probe-finished. Meanwhile a while loop waits for that file to appear. But after the first (even successfull) loop for doesn't end up and pppoe-discovery is executed once more. As /tmp/probe-finished already exists while doesn't run and for ends up. Then the running pppoe-discovery process is being killed. And that's where the problem is as if killed quickly enough it outputs nothing and the result of the pipeline is 0 which is then written to /tmp/probe-finished. Meanwhile this file is being read in the main execution thread (just after killing the pppoe-discovery process). So if a zero value is written BEFORE the file is read the function returns 1 which means no concentrators found. As a typical process race it can appear and disappear in different circumstances. For example it doesn't come in Alpha1 Debian Installer (Linux kernel 2.6.30) but does in latest daily builds (Linux kernel 2.6.32 - changes in process scheduler?). In my case a simple dmesg /dev/null or sleep 1 or any other command which takes some time to execute past ed just after R=$(/usr/sbin/pppoe-discovery ... wc -l) gave enough time to successfully read the file before it is spotted. The patch however does the trick in a more straight way: if the concentrator is found the for loop will be broken and it won't execute pppoe-discovery second time. It also provides some useful fixes like removing /tmp/ppp-errors (which is never used outside the function), pre-removing both /tmp/probe-finished and /tmp/ppp-errors (as each new discovery process should start from scratch) or assuring the function returns false in case of any timeout. ppp-udeb.postinst.orig Description: Binary data

When using GtkLauncher, maybe it doesn't use any UA at all or something, and thus gets a generic javascript.
