Bug#590541: tmux: 1.3 client cannot connect to 1.2 session

2010-07-27 Thread Romain Francoise
Hi,

Ryo IGARASHI rigar...@gmail.com writes:

When I update tmux package to 1.3-1, I cannot attach session of 1.2.
I think this should be mentioned when upgraded, since people may thrown
away some work on the 1.2-based sessions.

Yes, this is already mentioned in a NEWS.Debian.gz entry in 1.3-1,
however now that I try it, it seems that apt-listchanges has a bug
that makes it skip the very first entry when the NEWS file is added
to the package. There is a similar bug filed there:

  http://bugs.debian.org/565804

Also, if you're running Linux you can access the old binary using
/proc/pid of tmux/exe, and use that to attach to the session and
close it cleanly if necessary.

Thanks,

Bug#590273: phasex: FTBFS: Build using -march=native

2010-07-27 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Your package is trying to use things like -march=native which
it shouldn't do for package. This means it's building for the
cpu it runs on, and will not run on older CPUs. This is always
the wrong thing to do for a packaged version.

 gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I/usr/include/alsa -pthread
 -I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/include -I/usr/include/atk-1.0

Option like -m64 also don't make sense on all arches.

Bug#590544: [kannel] sensible handling of values in /etc/default/kannel

2010-07-27 Thread Hendrik Jaeger
Package: kannel
Severity: minor

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

The values in /etc/default/kannel aren't handled as expected. As long
as the variable is not unset, it will always be regarded as 'true'.
This is probably caused by the init-script only doing this:
test ! -z $START_WAPBOX (

IMHO it should check if that variable is 1 and only then start that
service. The way it's done atm is confusing because setting 0 doesn't
make the service not start.

Kind regards

Hendrik Jaeger

Bug#590549: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: setting wrong screen physical size/DPI

2010-07-27 Thread Andrei POPESCU
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Version: 1:0.0.15+git20100329+7858345-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

$ xdpyinfo | grep -E '(reso|dime)'
  dimensions:1680x1050 pixels (444x277 millimeters)
  resolution:96x96 dots per inch

The dimensions in pixel are correct, but the millimeters are wrong. I
measured that at ~333x209 mm and even the driver agrees (330x210), but
it then later sets the wrong dimensions.

The same happens also with the version in experimental and
2.6.35-rc6-amd64.

I can provide more info if needed.

Regards,
Andrei

 This is the same as #588205 / #569755 / #588311 . If you're using Xfce, that
is, or a non-1.1-compliant notification daemon (e.g. Xfce, see those bugs).

Hmmm... I just noticed, that the bug (using Xfce) vanished for me.
wicd-gtk again starts and shows me the icon. But I'm sorry to say, that
I don't know, what change I did recently caused that :(

Looking at my aptitude log, a week ago xfce4-notifyd got upgraded from
0.1.0-4 to 0.1.0-5, and according to the changelog, that closed #588272
which seems to be related to some notification specs.

I hope this information helps,
  Alexander

It's not clear to me why you consider a fail in libgtk-x11-2.0.so a
reportbug error; I'm reassigning to the correct package (its
maintainer can decide if it's an error or just a broken system, and I
believe it is).

Bug#590553: emboss: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD and hppa (due to unsatisfied Build-Depends on openjdk-6-jdk)

2010-07-27 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: emboss
Version: 6.3.1-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the emboss doesn't build on kfreebsd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64 and hppa anymore.
The problem is:
 emboss (6.3.1-2) unstable; urgency=low
   * Moved openjdk-6-jdk to Build-Depends

Please use default-jdk instead of openjdk-6-jdk
and default-jre instead of openjdk-6-jre, see diffs bellow.
These packages provide default java implementation,
on avr32, hppa, hurd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, m68k
it is gcj and on the rest it is openjdk-6.

Thanks

Petr

Bug#468358: More investigation required

2010-07-27 Thread Nicholas Bamber
First of all I have not been able to reproduce this, and the proposed
changes to the upstream code look unjustified to me for what appears to
be a configuration issue. However I do have some hope that by reviewing
the code I may be able to take at least a guess at what happened. As
such I will be untagging this.

Bug#590554: /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly for grub-common

2010-07-27 Thread Steven Shiau

Package: grub-common
Version: 1.98+20100722-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I created a Debian Sid live CD with Debian live as a rescue system.
When I booted the rescue system, and used the grub-legacy program to
reinstall grub for Debian Lenny system (installed in /dev/sda1) by:

r...@debian:~# grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
I got the error:
===
The file /mnt/boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.
===

I downloaded the grub-common 1.98-1 from:
http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20100409T161321Z/pool/main/g/grub2/grub-common_1.98-1_i386.deb
Installed it on the Debian Sid environment, without rebooting, I ran the
same command again:

r...@debian:~# grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
The command ran smoothly:
===
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the contents of the device map /mnt/boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'.

Apparently there is something changed in grub-common 1.98+20100722-1
that breaks the grub 1 support.

If you need more info, please let me know.

Steven.

I guess this is caused by the NumPy ABI disaster.

Can you please try to rebuild it with the current numpy in unstable?

Indeed, the problem was the include files you fixed in -3:

Rebuilding with -3 installed fixes it.

Bug#590558: asterisk: Asterisk should not depend on dahdi

2010-07-27 Thread Pascal GRELICHE
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.6.2.5-0ubuntu1
Severity: normal

Dahdi installation has many impacts :
- It requires to rebuild the kernel module (long process)
- It depends on many unuseful packages for the build (download time, disk
space)
- It has to download some parts (need full internet access or configuring
wget when behind a proxy)
And the most important part is that not every people using Asterisk need
Dhadi!

Please can you split the package so there is no Dhadi dependency on the
base package.

Thanks

Bug#477792: Would appreciate advice on Debian Policy and draft webapp sub policy

2010-07-27 Thread Nicholas Bamber
I am in the process of trying to fix the bugs associated with
w3c-markup-validator. I have hit a particular problem as I look into
#477792.

The package requires a web server with CGI support and support for SSI
includes. The dependencies specify a dependency on apache2 | httpd.

The latter conjunct makes no sense to me. The httpd virtual package
explicitly does not provide CGI support - one needs httpd-cgi for that.
So lets say I change the dependency to apache2 | httpd-cgi. I suppose
also the package should be tested against other web servers in httpd-cgi
apart from apache.

Now looking down the list in httpd-cgi 'tntnet' could my eye. Looking at
its description I don't see how it can cope with cgi scripts not written
explicitly for it. So I suspect either its description should be
clarified or it should be removed from the httpd-cgi virtual package.

Now how about the SSI include functionality? I assume (but do not know)
that webservers other than apache2 support SSI. However it seems
unlikely that all the servers do. So I believe that this dependency
should be simplified to apache2 but leaving the door open to adding
additional conjuncts after suitable testing. Lets say that some how this
was done and actually the dependency is now apache2 | X.

I am then left with the problem of making sure that the config is
suitably adapted as necessary for webserver X.

Now we come to the nub of the problem. The bug report suggests that the
post install script should run a2enmod include (and then bounce the
webserver). I looked for guidence in the policy manuals but could not
find any indication of how to handle dependencies of this sort. Bouncing
the webserver seems a bit drastic in some ways. Maybe the person in
charge might want to install the modules during the day but bounce the
web server late at night. It seems a big step to me for a package to
take this choice away from a the person in charge. Assuming one does
make the post install script work that way, what would the post remove
script do? It cannot blindly run a2dismod include. The more I think
about this the worse it gets.

I summary:

* I believe the dependency should be tightened from apache2 || httpd
to apache2 || X (which currently means apache2).
* I believe that tntnet should be removed from the httpd-cgi virtual
package.
* I believe the w3c-markup-validator source package should generate a
separate deb package for every supported web server.
* What am I suppose to do with dependencies like that on mod_include
being enabled?

* Could we have all of this clarified in the draft webapp policy?

Thanks, this is all useful information. It seems you're missing debug symbols
for libGL, so I can't see all the relevant information here, but it looks
like it may be a Clutter bug - perhaps Clutter is passing a NULL xdpy to
glXQueryVersion? Hopefully the Clutter maintainers can suggest how to
investigate further.

What X driver are you using, and in particular, is it one of the NVIDIA binary
drivers (nvidia-glx or nvidia-glx-legacy-something)? If you don't know which
driver you're using, you can probably find out near the top of
/var/log/Xorg.0.log; search for X.Org Video Driver.

There's a newer version of Clutter in sid, which isn't getting into
squeeze because it doesn't work on older ARM processors. If you wouldn't mind
trying that, checking whether it works would probably also be useful
information.

Thanks,
Simon

This bug struck me again several times since the last update, with
usually one or two messages being swapped, but today I got a new
 variation.

Upon switching the selected folder A to another folder B, in the
same account, claws downloaded the entire contents of A into
B (I'm sure, since the download took several seconds and the
progress bar was running). Looking through .claws-mail/imapcache/, it
seems that the disk contents reflect what I see on the screen (files
indeed contain stuff from folder A).

Switching the selected folder from B to A and to B again made
claws re-download the *real* contents of folder B.

This time, folder A contained 250 messages, folder B 11 messages
only, so, both pretty small in size.

Server is running dovecot 1.2.12 via imaps.
I also experienced the same issue with an Exchange 2003 server
 (always using imaps).

I'm afraid I'll stop using claws immediately, since this bug is too
 serious for me.

Well, that surely won't help solving it, but I understand your concerns.
Anyway I'll forward this upstream, as I think there's nothing specific to
  Debian here.

Bug#590266: gcc-4.5: FTBFS on sparc: symbols issues

2010-07-27 Thread Sandro Tosi
Matthias,
Why didn't you close this bug when you upload 4.5.0-10? you have
waited for the buildd to complete successfully (last night) before
closing, is this because you weren't sure you have fixed it and just
upload the package *hoping* it's done? You use this pattern a lot, so
I start to think you just makewild guess uploads, see if the bugs
are fixed and then close later.

Reply.

 Martijn van Brummelen

 Hi Martin,
sorry for the late reply, this went to an old address. My new address is
 this one.

I am able to reproduce this bug if I uninstall ssh-askpass.
BTW, I believe this report is wrongfully tagged upstream. Unless the
upstream documentation suggests grsync doesn't depend on ssh-askpass,
this is a Debian packaging issue (although it would be possible to fix
 this upstream).
Grsync doesn't rely on ssh-askpass, it does recommend ssh-askpass but it
doesn't need it to function properly. So installing or removing is a user
option.

Martijn van Brummelen

Bug#590563: dpkg-gensymbols can't handle biarch libs with different symbol names

2010-07-27 Thread Matthias Klose

Package: dpkg

A C++ library like libstdc++ built for 32bit and 64bit in the same source can
have different symbol names in the 32bit and 64bit builds, and different symbol
names on different architectures. The current `arch' attribute only allows
selection of the architecture.

dpkg should allow the biarch architecture names in the `arch' attribute and do
the right thing when processing libs, e.g. arch=i386 should trigger for a symbol
in a 32bit library for a build on amd64.

Bug#413834: lcov: branch coverage (as gcov provides) would be nice to have

Hi!

On Wed, 2007-03-07 at 13:35:01 +0100, Marius Mikucionis wrote:

gcov provides branch coverage via -b (or -c) option,
but I can't find any option to trigger this in lcov.

Branch coverage is much better test coverage measure than
just line coverage as lcov reports, see e.g. here:
 http://www.bullseye.com/lineCoverage.html

As of version 1.8, it seems this is supported already, so this bug
report might deserve to be closed.

I've considered it.

Should we want such a split, the modules in a asterisk-dahdi package
would be, beyond chan_dahdi.so itself:

$ grep 'dahdi' */*.c
apps/app_dahdibarge.c: dependdahdi/depend
apps/app_dahdiras.c:dependdahdi/depend
apps/app_dahdiscan.c: dependdahdi/depend

codecs/codec_dahdi.c: dependdahdi/depend
res/res_musiconhold.c: usedahdi/use
res/res_timing_dahdi.c: dependdahdi/depend

Thus we have:
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/app_dahdibarge.so
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/app_dahdiras.so
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/app_dahdiscan.so
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/app_flash.so

/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/codec_dahdi.so
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/res_timing_dahdi.so
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/res_musiconhold.so (??)

app_rpt is not built ATM (not built by default).

I'm really surprised to see res_musiconhold in the list, and need to
look into it. Looks like it should stay in the main package. Apart
from it, all the others are obvious. meetme has a reasonable
replacement with app_confbridge now. But anybody who needs Meetme
specifically will need DAHDI anyway.

Another question is the matter of timing. Is splitting Asterisk now a
good thing?

For the record: there is another pending split request: move the
conflicting packages of voicemail backends to separate packages. It has
not yet been recorded by a bug report.

Bug#586716: bcfg2-server: don't run server as root

2010-07-27 Thread Arto Jantunen
Olivier B. ob.report...@daevel.fr writes:

is it possible to make bcfg2-server running on an unprivileged account ?
(instead of root) After asking on the upstream IRC Channel, it seems that
 bcfg2-server doesn't need root privileges.

I agree that this is a change that should be done at some point, but since the
release of Squeeze is getting closer and this is an invasive change and also
rather complicated (we can't simply do a chown -R from the postinst, since we
have no way of knowing how the user has configured the permissions of their
repository, manual intervention by the admin is likely to be needed), I'd
prefer to leave this for later (after the release).

Also I think that the security improvements gained from this are likely to be
rather low (control of the Bcfg2 server gives root access on all of the
clients no matter what, and the machine running the server is likely to also
be a client), I don't consider this to be of high priority at this time.

I'm seeing this on 3 different machines running testing.
If I reinstall packages separately, no problem.

If I upgrade gcc-4.4 packages to unstable (4.4.1-3), no problem during
the upgrade, but reinstalling them later brings the error back.

The error message comes from apt, it currently reads like this:

 Hi,
having GSSAPI in ejabberd would be great:

Personally, I think support for GSSAPI makes sense as this would help
ejabberd spread in corporate (that is, enterprisey) environments
where SSO is often a requirement or at least a boost. Personally, I
would use this on the Windows AD networks I administer.

Unfortunately, as per [1], the status of this code is unknown to me;
also unknown is its status with regard to 2.1.x ejabberd series.
Another trouble is that after a quick glance over the link above, I
failed to find any HOWTO about how to set things up. The list of XMPP
clients supporting this feature is also not immediately obvious to me.

So, do you have any clarifications on the points stated above?
A success story about actual deployment would be best to hear, of
course.

Hello Raphael,

Since I just introduce a new option (fullsourcemangle), the new version
is backwards compatible with the old one. The old watch files still work
exactly the same if they don't have this option.

Of course we would have to update uuscan (and the other tools that read
the watch file ). If we need to increase the version for that, it is not
a problem, I can update the patch to check for version 4.

I haven't looked at how it was implemented or anything, but for the record

I wouldn't place any of Boost in that category. In fact, I wouldn't
place aptitude in that category, either.

aptitude was historically the recommended tool to use for upgrades because
it had the best dependency resolver for handling the dist-upgrade case.
For so long as that's true, it should be priority: important, which means
that by definition the things that it requires are also priority:
 important or higher.

If apt-get is now strong enough that we can recommend it for upgrades
without qualms, then aptitude is another alternative package manager and
standard may be fine. Is that now the case?

Not only is apt-get now strong enough to handle the cases for which we
recommended aptitude in the sarge timeframe (with much better resolution of
upgrades, installation of Recommends by default, and tracking of
auto-installed packages), but aptitude has also had several deplorable
regressions since etch. I don't know which of these made it into the lenny
release or which are still present in squeeze, but:

  - When I type 'aptitude install foo', *removing* foo instead of upgrading
is not a valid solution and should never be offered.
  - When I type 'aptitude install foo', installing 5 packages, removing 3
others, and upgrading 7 more *without installing foo* is not a valid
solution and should never be offered.

And the reason I don't know if these regressions are still present in lenny
or squeeze is that, after about the second time running into such issues, I
abandoned use of aptitude altogether. It's one thing to be unable to find a
solution and throw me an error; I have no patience for tools that do
something other than what I tell them to.

Though I think any manual published on debian.org recommending aptitude for

I fail to understand your intent of this statement.

Are you suggesting me to change the following text?

Aptitude is the current preferred package management tool for the
   Debian system.

Yes, I believe this text should be changed.

How does it need to be changed? I am very curious and open for
 suggestion.

I believe the correct recommendations would be:

  - apt-get for all commandline operations, including package installation
and removal, and dist-upgrades
  - aptitude for an interactive text interface for managing the installed
packages
  - update-manager for keeping your system up-to-date if you're running the
default GNOME desktop.

Please note this document[1] is claimed to be a secondary documentation.
I am merely following the primary documentation:
 http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html#upgradingpackages

 | Release Notes for Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 (lenny)
 |
 | 4.5. Upgrading packages
 |
 | The recommended way to upgrade from previous Debian GNU/Linux releases
 | is to use the package management tool aptitude. This program makes safer
 | decisions about package installations than running apt-get directly.

As I recall, there were long active discussion to reach this text. So
at least, this assessment is not an opinion of a single developer.

Two things:

 - This is a recommendation to use it as a tool for upgrading from previous
releases, and is not an endorsement of the tool as a preferred package
manager for other operations. The upgrade instructions in the release
notes are carefully crafted to try to smoothly and correctly handle
upgrades on as many users' systems as possible, and for that reason,
solutions should be considered for each release that use tools other than
   those recommended for daily operations.

 - The recommendation in the release notes was correct /at the time it was
drafted/ (i.e., for sarge). By lenny, it was giving noticeably worse
results than apt-get in many cases, but by the time the issue was raised,
some felt it was too late in the release cycle to revisit the text.

Cheers,

Bug#590568: debian-installer: hd-media boot.img.gz's installer cannot find mini.iso

2010-07-27 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

Hi.

I've tried to follow instructions in
http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/ch04s03.html.en to create a
bootable USB disk.

What I've done is reuse the files from :
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz
and just use a basic syslinux config :
  default linux
  append initrd=initrd.gz
to get a bootable USB disk of maximum size that indeed will boot an installer.

However, whenever inside the installer, the netinst .iso file cannot be found
when it searches the disks to find an installable iso image.

The iso is named mini.iso (just as downloaded from
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/)
and sits inside the USB key's first (and only) VFAT partition (which mounts
fine from /dev/sdb1 to /hd-media from a shell started inside the installer).

Is there a requirement on a special name for iso image files ?

Thanks in advance

aptitude was historically the recommended tool to use for upgrades because
it had the best dependency resolver for handling the dist-upgrade case.

 |
 |

Cheers,

Bug#119911: draft package

2010-07-27 Thread Trent W. Buck
Please find attached a draft package of the current version of א₁.

For game data, I took a similar approach to flashplugin-nonfree – I
wrote a little script which downloads and extracts games from bungie.

I'm happy to maintain this package in Debian, but I need a DD to
sponsor me and to help me with the first couple of months of polishing
and bug triaging – after that point, I expect it to be a
low-maintenance package that I can handle on my own.

Policy 11.6 requires that any package providing mail-transport-agent
install /usr/sbin/sendmail and provide a program called newaliases, and
hence they really do need Conflicts:

/etc/aliases is the source file for the system mail aliases (e.g.,
postmaster, usenet, etc.), it is the one which the sysadmin and
postinst scripts may edit. After /etc/aliases is edited the program or
human editing it must call newaliases. All MTA packages must come with
a newaliases program, even if it does nothing, but older MTA packages
did not do this so programs should not fail if newaliases cannot be
found. Note that because of this, all MTA packages must have Provides,
Conflicts and Replaces: mail-transport-agent control fields.

The problem with using alternatives here is that the sendmail and
newaliases programs have to match whatever MTA is actually being used,
since bad things could happen (like losing data) if the alternative points
to one MTA but a different MTA is actually running. Alternatives don't
really provide a good way of making those things line up, so what we've
historically done is make all the mail-transport-agent providers just ship
those binaries in those paths and conflict with each other. That prevents
installing more than one MTA at the same time, which could occasionally be
useful, but ensures that everything installed is consistent and works
 together.

Another issue is that only one MTA can be listening on port 25 at any time, and
Debian
does not provide a way to prevent two packages to be configured to listen on
the same
port.

The uscan command downloaded and prepared a new pgpool2 2.3.3-1 release.
The patch manpage.patch is not needed anymore.
The patch pgpool2-debian-config.patch was substituted by new ones.
The following patches are needed in order to compile it.
Please, evaluate them. I hope these help.
The new 2.3.x releases include many VERY important improvements.

Ubuntu Lucid, all updates installed

1. In Ubuntu Software Center, navigate to Get Software
   Developer Tools Python.
2. Scroll through the list.

What happens: Printing/Configure Printers
 (system-config-printer-gnome) appears in the list.

What should happen: It shouldn't be there.

This is because the system-config-printer-gnome package has Section: python,
 which it should not.

It's nothing particularly to do with Python,
it just happens to be written in that language.

I suggest changing to Section: gnome.

The problem also exists in Maverick Ubunu.

Comments/Problems:

I tried to install Debian squeeze with the weekly-builds 19-Jul-2010
and 26-Jul-2010 on Sparc hardware (sun blade 100) and the installer
freezes after show the main menu blue screen: the keyboard doesn't
work and the only solution is perform a hard reboot (power off)

I tried different USB keyboards and I have the same problem.

But if I try with Debian release 5.0.5 the system install and works well.

Bug#590026: git: diff for NMU version 1:1.7.1-1.1

2010-07-27 Thread Julien Cristau
tags 590026 + pending
thanks

I ended up using the first patch from Jonathan after fixing my
environment to have HOME exported, and I'll upload that in a minute.
Gerrit, I'm uploading to ftp-master directly since afaik you're on VAC;
please find the NMU patch attached.

Thanks again for the fix, Jonathan!

Cheers,
Julien
