Bug#598072: elinks: disabling mouse usage
Package: elinks Version: 0.12~pre5-2 Severity: wishlist ELinks will acquire the terminal mouse when on a terminal which allows this. However, this impedes the use of the mouse for grabbing parts of the (completely text-based) interface as an X selection for copying into other programs. It would be nice if I could tell ELinks to ignore the mouse completely, either globally or on a finer-grained basis, but I see nothing in the Terminals or User Interface option groups or in the keybinding manager that provides this. --- Drake Wilson -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages elinks depends on: ii elinks-data 0.12~pre5-2advanced text-mode WWW browser - d ii libbz2-1.01.0.5-6high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.11.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcomerr21.41.12-2 common error description library ii libexpat1 2.0.1-7XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfsplib00.11-1 FSP v2 protocol stack library - sh ii libgnutls26 2.8.6-1the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgpm2 1.20.4-3.3 General Purpose Mouse - shared lib ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.8.3+dfsg~beta1-1 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries - k ii libidn11 1.18-1 GNU Libidn library, implementation ii libk5crypto3 1.8.3+dfsg~beta1-1 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries - C ii libkrb5-3 1.8.3+dfsg~beta1-1 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii liblua50 5.0.3-4Main interpreter library for the L ii liblualib50 5.0.3-4Extension library for the Lua 5.0 ii libmozjs2d1.9.1.13-1 The Mozilla SpiderMonkey JavaScrip ii libperl5.10 5.10.1-14 shared Perl library ii libruby1.81.8.7.249-2Libraries necessary to run Ruby 1. ii libtre5 0.8.0-2regexp matching library with appro ii zlib1g1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime elinks recommends no packages. Bug#598073: gnome-terminal: allow undiverting mouse events
Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.30.2-1 Severity: wishlist Sometimes, programs run in a GNOME terminal window will use xterm control sequences to request mouse events. Unfortunately, this results in it being impossible to use the mouse to select text for either selection or clipboard copy/paste into another program, since the relevant events are being diverted. Having each program support resetting the terminal mouse on user request might be nice, but it would also be nice for the terminal emulator to let the user override this on a temporary basis. (This would probably be provided on the context menu, since right-clicking is the one mouse event that is not diverted.) --- Drake Wilson -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-terminal depends on: ii gnome-terminal-data 2.30.2-1Data files for the GNOME terminal ii libatk1.0-0 1.30.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.11.2-6Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.88-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgconf2-4 2.28.1-4GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.2-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-1+b1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.6-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpango1.0-01.26.2-1Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm6 2:1.1.1-1 X11 Session Management library ii libvte9 1:0.24.3-1 Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-3 X11 client-side library Versions of packages gnome-terminal recommends: ii gvfs 1.2.3-3 userspace virtual filesystem - ser ii yelp 2.30.1+webkit-1 Help browser for GNOME gnome-terminal suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. reassign 598009 fbgrab thanks Jakub Wilk scrisse: * Luca Bruno lu...@debian.org, 2010-09-25, 11:53: please remove fbgrab from both unstable and testing. The package is actually a dummy one, as it has been superseeded by fbcat. Shouldn't it be removed only after squeeze is released? Otherwise there won't be smooth fbgrab-fbcat upgrade path for lenny users. That's true, I overlooked it. Thanks for the reminder, I'll keep this bug for post squeeze. Bug#597914: perdition: type mismatch in call to vanessa_socket_pipe_func
On Sat, Sep 25, 2010 at 11:10:53PM +0200, Sergio Gelato wrote: * Simon Horman [2010-09-25 21:34:02 +0900]: On Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 10:36:09AM +0200, Sergio Gelato wrote: The main problem is that perdition/io.c:io_pipe() and its caller perdition/perdition.c:perdition_log_close() use int counters while the corresponding arguments in vanessa_socket_pipe_func() are declared size_t. I'd worry about stack corruption on platforms where sizeof(size_t) sizeof(int). Suggested fix: declare those counters size_t, and (for cosmetic purposes) cast them to unsigned long before formatting them with %lu instead of %d. Thanks, I'll fix that. Do you think it warrants an update to the testing (= already frozen squeeze) package? I do: amd64 has sizeof(size_t)==8 and sizeof(int)==4. Hi, could you take a look at the following patch and see what you think? I have isolated three integer/size_t with problems. 1) perdition_log_close() takes integer arguments but the counters are actually size_t. I think that the resulting bug is cosmetic. 2) __io_pipe_read() and __io_pipe_write() return an int but the counter in question is a ssize_t. I actually don't think this can manifest in a problem as the maximum return value is limited by the count argument, which is 1024 (=BUFFER_SIZE). If count was greater than 2^31 then a problem could occur whereby a large read was mis-read as an error and the connection would be prematurely closed. 3) perditiondb_odbc.c:dbserver_get() passes the address of an SQLINTEGER instead of the address of a SQLLEN to the odbc library call SQLBindCol() twice. This seems like it could cause a stack corruption on systems such as amd64 where SQLINTEGER (= typdef int) is 4 bytes wide but SQLLEN (= typdef long) is 8 bytes wide. Bug#598080: debootstrap: Empty devices.tar.gz
Package: debootstrap Version: 1.0.24 Severity: important Hi, now that makedev has priority extra instead of required, the existence of basic devices nodes in a debootstrapped chroot (such as /dev/random) purely relies on what is in the devices.tar.gz provided by the debootstrap binary package. 1.0.23 had a bunch of devices in there. However, 1.0.24's devices.tar.gz only contains an empty dev/ directory. This breaks e.g. builds of Live images using Debian Live. I haven't investigated this issue enough to tell the cause of the problem. A somewhat unclean build environment might be involved, since rebuilding from the source package in my sid chroot (using pbuilder and cowbuilder) produces a binary package that has a devices tarball full of usefull. Same when building from SVN. (Temporary workarounds: downgrade to 1.0.23 or use cdebootstrap.) Bug#598084: clamav-daemon: reportbug incorrectly warns about different database directories for configs when they are the same
Package: clamav-daemon Version: 0.96.3+dfsg-1~volatile1 Severity: minor I was just filing a bug about a problem I noticed, and I happened to see that reportbug complained that I had different database directories for freshclam.conf and clamd.conf. Bug#598064: [libopenal1] Short description could be more informational

What other short description do you think is better? Also, remember that it has to be under 80 characters (see Debian Policy 3.4.1). Ah, I see - My main concern is that people might not know that OpenAL is related to audio - And the (short) description doesn't give any additional information. But seeing the description of the mesa package you mention, I see your point. My idea would be a minor addition, something like A free implementation of the OpenAL audio API - But I don't know about adding the word graphics to the mesa package - Somehow OpenGL seems more self-explainatory (maybe it is just me) - I guess that is because I am more familiar with OpenGL than with OpenAL. Bug#598082: libclamav6: unsolvable dependency with libltdl3

On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:49:37 +0300, George Kiagiadakis wrote: This upload of bluedevil introduces transitional packages for kbluetooth and kdebluetooth, plus it packages the new rc3 upstream release, which is just a few bugfixes since rc2, which is in testing. The transitional kdebluetooth package is important to be in squeeze, since it will allow smooth upgrade from the outdated and broken kdebluetooth to the new bluedevil. What's the point of the kbluetooth package though. It's not transitional, since there's no such package in stable or testing at the moment? Also what's with the versioning for those packages? Having to modify debian/rules for every upload doesn't seem to be the way to go. The rc3 release introduces only a few bugfixes, which are a good thing in my opinion. It has: 2 crash fixes, 1 normal bugfix, a few string fixes and a few cosmetic changes. You could check this by checking the git history: I see string changes, but no corresponding translation changes. Is this translated at all? Bug#573073: regarding Bug#573073: delay at creating lvm devices
On 09/25/2010 11:19 PM, Marco d'Itri wrote: On Sep 25, Jonas Meurer jo...@freesources.org wrote: the buglog of bug#573073 (filed against cryptsetup) indicates that the lvm2 initscript at boot process finishes before the devices are actually created by udev. There is nothing wrong with this. i guess this is a general problem concerning several initscripts which push udev, but it might be able to workaround it by invoking 'udevadm settle' in lvm2 initscript. No, it's not like we need to make the boot slower by adding more serialization points. The correct solution is to modify cryptsetup to install RUN rules and react to the appropriate events. e.g. (I do not know it this is correct for this specific case): SUBSYSTEM=block, ID_FS_TYPE=crypto_LUKS, RUN+=... With the upstream dm rules yo do not need special udev rules. It is just Debian lvm/device-mapper maintainer who ignores upstream udev rules and tries to solve it differently. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=593375#39 Please do not use udeavadm settle or any workaround here and try to use the upstream way. cryptsetup simply relies on device mapper udev rules when running with udev support (it synchronizes link creation using these rules so it cannot happen that you have device but not link in /dev/) (DM udev rules are provided by lvm/device-mapper package). On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 18:20:12 -0400, Daniel Kahn Gillmor wrote: Package: release.debian.org Hi release team-- Please unblock xdotool 1:2.20100701-2961-3 to allow it to propagate into squeeze after the normal delay. By using a piece of upstream's most recent test suite, we can avoid the build-dep on lsof, which should make the package buildable on kfreebsd (and any other arch which lsof isn't building on currently), thereby resolving RC bug #590827. My removal of the gnome-session test suite is due to the fact that they were never working in the first place (the build-deps had openbox | gnome-session, so most buildd's probably never satisfied the latter dependency anyway, and the tests weren't run). I'm pursuing this with upstream for post-squeeze versions. The current version in testing is 1:1.20100302.2708-1. The diff comes in at: 80 files changed, 7356 insertions(+), 1942 deletions(-) 590827 is not present in the testing version, the sid version has a SONAME bump over testing, ... I don't think we can squeeze this in. Cheers, Julien signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#598044: ITP: autoconf-dickey -- automatic configure script builder (Thomas Dickey's version)
On 2010-09-25 23:29 +0200, Joerg Jaspert wrote: On 12249 March 1977, Sven Joachim wrote: * Package name: autoconf-dickey Version : 2.52-20100814 Upstream Author : David MacKenzie Thomas Dickey * URL or Web page : http://invisible-island.net/autoconf/autoconf.html* License : GPLv2+ Description : automatic configure script builder (Thomas Dickey's version) This hacked version of autoconf is required to bootstrap ncurses and some other packages maintained upstream by Thomas Dickey. It should not be used for other purposes. Yet another autoconf version, as if the four that we already have in the archive weren't enough. :-( But it is needed for ncurses if we ever need to patch configure.in, see #580190. And its not possible to fixup the idiot who uses an own autoconf version? Considering that his dispute with the GNU Autoconf maintainers originates in the last millennium and he's been maintaining his patches for twelve years or so, the answer is: no, that is not possible. Or if that doesn't work, replace the shit in his source by something that works with all the lot we already have? Given that - Thomas makes extensive use of the features that he introduced in his patched autoconf version and that were rejected by the GNU maintainers; - his fork is based on a very old autoconf version (2.52) that we don't have, and I have no idea what would break if we patch out the incompatible macros and use either autoconf2.59 or autoconf2.13; - ncurses' configure.in changes very frequently (patches for ncurses are released weekly, and about every second-third patch touches configure.in); this would be a maintenance nightmare. An autoconf wizard that wants to tackle this task is welcome to join the ncurses team and try, but I'm not going to do that. That hypothetical wizard should also have a look at xterm, lynx-cur and possibly other packages that are maintained by Thomas Dickey to bring them in line with Policy §2.2.1. There is therefore no longer any need to supply the source code for the driver. For this reason, the ipheth-dkms package been removed. If you run a desktop system, it may not be necessary to install ipheth-utils. Desktop packages such as GVFS and libgpod automatically pair with the device when it is plugged in. The ipheth-utils package will therefore be of specific interest to users wanting only to make use of the iPhone's Internet connection. Users upgrading from version 1.0-1 are advised to remove the ipheth-dkms package in order to use the Kernel maintained driver. Might also want to note that ipheth is in the debian kernel as of 2.6.32-12, since that's what's relevant for squeeze users. Cheers, Julien signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Having to modify debian/rules for every upload doesn't seem to be the way to go. kbluetooth is transitional for the kbluetooth that was in unstable (but never made it into testing). One of the ex-maintainers of kbluetooth suggested that I should also add a transitional package for it. Their version is just something higher than the last version of kbluetooth/kdebluetooth that was in unstable. I did that to avoid bumping epoch on bluedevil. Having to modify debian/rules for each upload isn't so great, but it's not much hassle either, because I don't intend to do any further uploads before squeeze is released and after the release I will again drop the transitional packages (well, supposing that the release will take some time...). There are no translations for bluedevil. Upstream added the possibility to translate it in 1.0~rc4 (released last week) and it will take some time until translations are ready, so I don't think they can make it for squeeze. Introducing new packages during freeze is not particularly helpful; tying an RC-bug fix up with it less so still. I've recognized this, as it should be introduced in 1.4.13-1, when I added separate package for supporting ruby 1.9 series. (to avoid including duplicate documents for them) You also forgot to mention that -2 is still in NEW right now, which makes reviewing it somewhat difficult. As 1.4.13-1 never managed to migrate to testing due to the FTBFS bugs, afaics none of the bugs fixed in -2 are regressions from the version currently in Squeeze; I'm debating whether we should therefore just leave 1.4.9-1.4 in Squeeze. Please consider to update 1.4.13, though I know that I couldn't push it to testing before freeze because of my inmature packaging; 1.4.9 (released 2006/11) is pretty old, even though for lenny. No users want to use it. The problem is that before your upload of 1.4.13-1, there hadn't been a hyperestraier upload since 2008, and even that was an NMU; the previous maintainer upload was in 2006. That's usually the sort of package history which would suggest that hyperestraier doesn't belong in a stable release in the first place, not that we should be introducing changes on the magnitude of 180 files changed, 14488 insertions(+), 8011 deletions(-) during a freeze. :-( Regards, Adam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#597914: perdition: type mismatch in call to vanessa_socket_pipe_func
* Simon Horman [2010-09-26 16:58:05 +0900]: On Sat, Sep 25, 2010 at 11:10:53PM +0200, Sergio Gelato wrote: * Simon Horman [2010-09-25 21:34:02 +0900]: On Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 10:36:09AM +0200, Sergio Gelato wrote: The main problem is that perdition/io.c:io_pipe() and its caller perdition/perdition.c:perdition_log_close() use int counters while the corresponding arguments in vanessa_socket_pipe_func() are declared size_t. I stand corrected. On looking more carefully at the various versions of perdition I'm interested in, I now see that changeset 695 actually did fix the problem I was most concerned with. (You didn't update the comments, but that's also cosmetic.) Then I see no need to push this fix into squeeze. (lenny, on the other hand, might benefit from that changeset 695.) 2) __io_pipe_read() and __io_pipe_write() return an int but the counter in question is a ssize_t. I actually don't think this can manifest in a problem as the maximum return value is limited by the count argument, which is 1024 (=BUFFER_SIZE). If count was greater than 2^31 then a problem could occur whereby a large read was mis-read as an error and the connection would be prematurely closed. I wouldn't be so sure. On platforms where int is shorter than ssize_t, vanessa_socket_pipe_read_write_func() will use data that may not have been initialised properly. Even if it has been zeroed, depending on endianness the effect could be equivalent to a shift, or the result may not be sign-extended correctly. amd64 seems to fall into this last category: storing (-1) into %eax zeroes the upper half of %rax, which should defeat the error handling in your code. *This* fix would therefore be welcome for squeeze according to my criteria. I agree with you here (except that I, and my compiler, count three instances of the problem, not two; but that doesn't affect the patch). Also a candidate for squeeze, I would think. Bug#573073: regarding Bug#573073: delay at creating lvm devices
reassign 573073 lvm2 block 573073 593625 thanks Hey, On 26/09/2010 Milan Broz wrote: On 09/25/2010 11:19 PM, Marco d'Itri wrote: On Sep 25, Jonas Meurer jo...@freesources.org wrote: the buglog of bug#573073 (filed against cryptsetup) indicates that the lvm2 initscript at boot process finishes before the devices are actually created by udev. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=593375#39 Please do not use udeavadm settle or any workaround here and try to use the upstream way. cryptsetup simply relies on device mapper udev rules when running with udev support (it synchronizes link creation using these rules so it cannot happen that you have device but not link in /dev/) (DM udev rules are provided by lvm/device-mapper package). thanks for your comments, Milan. so I guess the bug here is in lvm2 package, which is outdated and doesn't contain latest udev rules, right? it seems like several bugreport already complain about this: #590665, #593625, #593375. reassigning this bugreport to lvm2 package. Bastian, please either update lvm2 package or backport the udev rules. greetings, jonas signature.asc Description: Digital signature

This bug seems non-trivial to fix: in imap_idle(), we wait for untagged responses, and may be deep in SSL_peek -- and that restarts the underlying blocking read() from the socket, so we never break out of the SSL_peek() with SIGUSR1. Bug#568455: fetchmail TLS/SSL with Exchange 2007 results in Autorization failures
It appears after another couple of hours of debugging and trying that depending on the excact circumstances, the GSS library in use may return when the actual AUTH SASL process has not completed, for instance, because credentials are missing. However, fetchmail has never cancelled the authentication phase properly in that situation. Ever since the gssapi.c code had been added to fetchmail in February 2001, fetchmail sent a blank line to wake up the server, which worked in some circumstances. However, according to various RFCs (1734/5034, 3501), fetchmail was supposed to send an asterisk, *, on a line by its own, to really cancel the AUTHentication phase. Also, the authentication framework in fetchmail sent the star to cancel things a bit later, but did not wait for and did not pick up the authentication error message that the server is required to send. This caused fetchmail to go out of synch and mistake the GSSAPI AUTH error for an error response to the later USER command. Relevant changes that should fix the bug but require testing are in the upstream test release 6.3.18-pre2; it is spread out across various commits in Git unfortunately. I'd propose that 6.3.18-pre2 be packaged for experimental, or for unstable with a marker to NOT migrate to testing until we have evidence that the bug is really fixed in -pre2. -- Matthias Andree -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#598098: xfwm4: fullscreen window is not aware of xrandr screen size change
Package: xfwm4 Version: 4.6.2-1 Severity: normal Steps to reproduce the issue: 1. run a fullscreen-capable application (iceweasel or remmina), put it in fullscreen mode. 2. use xrandr to change the screen size, by either changing the physical resolution, or change the scale option. example: xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1x1.28 3. The fullscreen window does not resize itself thus only occupies partially the new screen size. However the workaround posted above doesn't appear to work: if chunk_max == -1: chunk_max = 16384 (error with 'if chunk_max = -1: chunk_max = 16384') doesn't prevent the error. Indeed if I put: self.warn('chunk_max: %d' % chunk_max) as line 1982 (just after the SC_ARG_MAX if/else) I get: pycentral: pycentral cleanup-pkgprepare-updates: chunk_max: 2097152 Putting that warn() after the reduce() call gives: pycentral: pycentral cleanup-pkgprepare-updates: chunk_max: 2095312 Aha! Putting a warn() to show the value of 'line' at line 1973 shows: pycentral: pycentral cleanup-pkgprepare-updates: Line: missing description So in fact although perhaps python-central should be more robust this is actually happening because of how dpkg now moans if any package doesn't have a Description field. I'm not entirely convinced, but I do agree that the current situation is precarious and fixing it in squeeze seems worthwhile. I agree with you here (except that I, and my compiler, count three instances of the problem, not two; but that doesn't affect the patch). Also a candidate for squeeze, I would think. Ok, perhaps I counted wrong. In any case, can I confirm that we agree that the io.c and perditiondb_odbc.c portions of the change below should go into squeeze? And for Lenny, I'll look into adding 695 + the io.c and perditiondb_odbc.c portions of the change below. Does that sounds good to you? I'm not entirely convinced, To clarify, what I mean is. My testing didn't show up a problem. But I am prepared to accept that there is a problem. So, actually, I am convinced. but I do agree that the current situation is precarious and fixing it in squeeze seems worthwhile. Bug#597379: X freeze - another one
I've run into the similar issue, system freezes totally on login or almost immediately after, only on my system I don't have xorg.conf at all so I cannot use the workaround of the first poster. Problem started after last update. What data can I provide that can be useful? n.
Bug#566965: lvm2 initscript breaks most advanced setups (e.g. stacked block devices) or booting via UUID/LABEL
retitle 566965 lvm2 initscript breaks most advanced setups (e.g. stacked block devices) or booting via UUID/LABEL severity 566965 important stop Hi. I've changed the title and increased the severity as this breaks so many setups. Bastian, could you please _strongly_ reconsider to correct the initramfs boot-script. 1) The current implementation seems to expect $ROOT (which is the root= kernel command line parameter) to be the final LVM logical volume. This is AFAIU a misconception of it. As $ROOT is the final device containting the root-filesystem. This must not necessarily be an LV, just imagine setups like: physical disk - MD - LV - dm-crypt/LUKS - ext4-root-fs 2) As it expects some rather fixed device pathnames. This in addition breaks using things like UUID/LABEL, even if there are no stacked block devices. I've also seen several other classes of setups which are broken by this. IMHO it would be fully ok, to just let the lvm2 initramfs script scan for any VGs and activate _all_ of them. - This should have no worse performance as lvm will have to scan all PVs anyway. - It should do no harm to activate VGs/LVs that are not yet required (just to mount the root-fs). I'd also say that it's nearly impossible to make a script which automatically detects only those VGs/LVs that are required for the root-filesystem, especially when you consider multiple stacked blockdevices (see also http://wiki.debian.org/AdvancedStartupShutdownWithMultilayeredBlockDevices) My suggestion for now would be a strongly simplified lvm2 script as attached. Would be nice if this could find it's way in unstable soon :) Cheers, Chris. lvm2 Description: application/shellscript smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature
