Bug#660431: User and users

2012-03-11 Thread k Vladimir
Confirmed, with 'users' option I can unmount the share. But I can do it with
any user, not just the one from which I mounted the share.

From man mount:
... given a line
 /dev/cdrom /cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide
any user can mount the iso9660 filesystem found on his CDROM...
Only the user that mounted a filesystem can unmount it again. If any user
should be able to unmount, then use users instead of user in the fstab line.

So it seems that 'users' option works as it should, but 'user' option fails in
unmounting, i.e. I can not unmount share with the same user I mounted it with.

Bug#653468: Cannot stopping debomatic

2012-03-11 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Here the init.d scripts also fails to shutdown debomatic. After
/etc/init.d/debomatic stop the control return to the shell without
writing anything on the screen (and debomatic is still happily running).

Probably the two problems are tied.

Giovanni.

Bug#662852: Upload of new package 0.903 on hold

2012-03-11 Thread Dominique Dumont

I've prepared a package for new upstream version 0.903. But this new version
depends on augeas 0.10.0 which is not available in Debian.

Unless someone object, I'll wait for augeas 0.10.0 to become available to
upload this package. I don't see the need to upload a patched 0.902 package
(for Debian and for Ubuntu as the work is already done there)

All the best

Bug#663433: udev: does not load acpiphp on ThinkPad T520 although it is needed for ExpressCard hotplugging

2012-03-11 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: udev
Version: 175-3.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

hotplugging of ExpressCards like my Silicon Image based Delock eSATA
controller does not work. The card is only detected when I insert
it before booting.

It is:

merkaba:~ lspci -nn | grep Sili
05:00.0 Mass storage controller [0180]: Silicon Image, Inc. SiI 3531
[SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller [1095:3531] (rev 01)

I suspect the Express Card slot is just connected to one of these
PCI express ports:

merkaba:~ lspci -nn | grep -i express
00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset
Family PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:1c10] (rev b4)
00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset
Family PCI Express Root Port 2 [8086:1c12] (rev b4)
00:1c.3 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset
Family PCI Express Root Port 4 [8086:1c16] (rev b4)
00:1c.4 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset
Family PCI Express Root Port 5 [8086:1c18] (rev b4)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation QM67 Express Chipset Family LPC
Controller [8086:1c4f] (rev 04)

When I put something like

# [Bug 35812] New: hotplug of Express Card eSATA controller in ThinkPad T520
# does not work
# https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35812
acpiphp

in /etc/modules and rebuild initramfs hotplugging of ExpressCard´s works
as expected.

Expected results: udev loads acpiphp on the ThinkPad T520 and other
laptops with ExpressCard support. According to an article in c`t
Linux kompakt 1/2012 also quite some other business laptops are
affected by this.

I reported it upstream on kernel.org back then, but maybe it is more
of a userspace, of a udev issue, cause when the module is loaded
hot plugging of Express Cards does work as expected.

Thanks,
Martin

Bug#663434: Please use lsb-base in the init script

2012-03-11 Thread Thomas Goirand
Package: rabbitmq-server
Version: 2.6.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

It appears that rabbitmq-server is using echoes instead of using the
lsb-base init.d functions. Please use them instead.

Example:

echo -n Starting $DESC:
start_rabbitmq
echo $NAME.

with many things not standard at all, like writing RabbitMQ is currently
running when in fact, it shouldn't produce any message at all.

should instead be:
. /lib/lsb/init-functions
. /lib/init/vars.sh

[ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_daemon_msg Stopping ${DESC} ${NAME}
start_rabbitmq
case $? in
0|1) [ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_end_msg 0 ;;
2) [ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_end_msg 1 ;;
esac

Please have a look into:
/etc/init.d/skeleton

as an example on how to write your init.d scripts.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)

Hi,

I am working on it but real life is currently taking some time. In addition my
sponsor demanded some additional changes to the package (building of
documentation) that take a little bit more time than anticipated. Further on,
m.d.n is somehow currently silently dropping uploaded packages, although they

Bug#663436: modprobe: does not seem to set module options for snd_hda_intel

2012-03-11 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kmod
Version: 6-1.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have

merkaba:~ cat /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf
# c`t kompakt Linux 1/2012
# Thorsten Leemhuis, Notebooks unter Linux, S. 38ff
# S. 42, Kasten Handoptimiert
options snd_hda_intel power_save_controller=Y power_save=1

I did:

- update-initramfs -k all -u
- reboot

Yet I get:

merkaba:~ cat /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save
0

Echoing the value to the corresponding sysfs file works:

merkaba:~ echo 1 /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save
merkaba:~ cat /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_saved
1

As I a workaround I use:

merkaba:~ grep power_save /etc/sysfs.conf
module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save = 1

This works.

Yet the module actually has that parameters:

merkaba:~ modinfo snd_hda_intel | grep power_save
parm: power_save:Automatic power-saving timeout (in second, 0 =
disable). (int)
parm: power_save_controller:Reset controller in power save mode.
(bool)

Yet setting parameters for i915 works:

merkaba:~ cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
# Thorsten Leemhuis, Die Woche: Ungenutztes Stromsparpotenzial
#
http://www.heise.de/open/artikel/Die-Woche-Ungenutztes-Stromsparpotenzial-1361381.html

# a=commitdiff;h=d56d8b28e9247e7e35e02fbb12b12239a2c33ad1
options i915 modeset=1 i915_enable_rc6=1 semaphores=1
merkaba:~

Leads to:

merkaba:~ grep . /sys/module/i915/parameters/*
/sys/module/i915/parameters/enable_hangcheck:Y
/sys/module/i915/parameters/fbpercrtc:0
/sys/module/i915/parameters/i915_enable_fbc:-1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/i915_enable_rc6:1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/lvds_downclock:0
/sys/module/i915/parameters/lvds_use_ssc:-1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/modeset:1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/panel_ignore_lid:0
/sys/module/i915/parameters/powersave:1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/reset:Y
/sys/module/i915/parameters/semaphores:1
/sys/module/i915/parameters/vbt_sdvo_panel_type:-1

Expected results:

Setting parameters for snd_hda_intel works as well. I do not see any
obvious syntax errors in my snd-hda-intel.conf. I might have overlooked
some. If it has a syntax error please point me at it and feel free to
close the bug.

Thanks,
Martin

Thanks for that ultra quick answer. I am willing to reopen the bug report

So please advice. Is it sufficient for ask for module aliases being added

Thanks and have a nice sunday,

Bug#662025: foomatic-filters: Fails to print if 4.0.12-1 or 4.0.13-1 is installed

I'm a bit lost, so far I got back to a printing state by downgrade and

And it's not easy to see whats going on when command like lpq only
display two or three blank lines, even though jobs are pending, and
-a or -l does not yield any output either.

I just removed the first job from the print queue using the web
interface and the second (or third, I don't know, same file) worked
again.

Ok, using the web interface once more, print jobs to this (new) queue
are stalled, (I just tried printing again on that new queue).

The problem is that it's hard to see what's going on, especially since
some print jobs take lots of time (I have a postscript file which
(before this bug hit) took over 30 Minutes to render before being sent
to the printer).

Bug#663438: libmysqlclient: missing symbols __aeabi_d2lz (on armel)

2012-03-11 Thread Tobias Frost
Package: libmysqlclient16
Version: 5.1.61-2
Severity: critical

Justification: Breaks (at least my) mail system

Dear maintainers,
yesterday I upgraded my armel-powered NAS and after that exim4 stop working.
Evaluation showed that when I do a mailq or a restart on exim4, I get this
error message:

After downgrading the libmysqlclient16 to 5.1.58-1 (via snapshot.debian.org)
exims works again, so I assume the cause in libmysqlclient16.
(Pleae reassign the bug if you thin this is wrong)

Bug#660685: RFH: gnupg -- GNU privacy guard - a free PGP replacement

2012-03-11 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

I request assistance with maintaining the gnupg package. The package is
  team-maintained via alioth (pkg-gnupg group).

Can you be more specific about what sort of help you're looking for?
I'm happy to lend a hand.

From my personal view, what's missing in the maintenance of GnuPG
currently is keeping up with the incoming flow of bug reports. As the
package is very stable and upstream releases are infrequent but of high
quality, the packaging per se is in my opinion not really starved - it's
just that the bug count is increasing, there may be valid issues there
that should be triaged, forwarded and/or fixed.

One thing to note though is that I think especially in the context of
GnuPG, and because upstream is very responsive, that any patch/fix is sent
principally upstream; if it's accepted there it will flow into the package
by itself or we can add it into the package.

There's been talk about combining efforts of gnupg and gnupg2. As I
understand it, that would get more opportune when GnuPG 2.1 is released;
so we can in that area perhaps wait for that first.

Cheers,
Thijs

Upstream seems to be dead (most recent commit on git,

As a last resort I can contact the upstream author asking if he plans to
update the package.
If no or there will be no answers, I think the only possible solution is
to request a removal of this package.

Hi Jonas,
as part of the hardening release goal I tried to recompile libnss-ldap
with current cdbs:

Here's how the sonames are with the version currently in the archive:

jmm@pisco:~/scratch/libnss-ldap-264$ dpkg -L libnss-ldap | grep ^/lib
/lib
/lib/libnss_ldap-2.11.2.so
/lib/libnss_ldap.so.2

Here's how they look like after a rebuild with current cdbs:

jmm@pisco:~/scratch$ dpkg -L libnss-ldap | grep ^/lib
/lib
/lib/libnss_ldap-.so
/lib/libnss_ldap.so.

I don't know anything about the internals of cdbs, but this looks like
a bug in cdbs, rather than in libnss-ldap's use of cdbs?

Background image and resolution settings are respected.

This is on a ThinkPad T520 with Full HD display.

Although a /boot/efi partition is available, I do not use EFI at the
moment since I didn´t get it to at least try to boot the OS. The BIOS
just always seems to think there is nothing to boot from with EFI.
Wether with MBR or GPT. MBR is in use right now.

Bug#662025: foomatic-filters: Fails to print if 4.0.12-1 or 4.0.13-1 is installed

2012-03-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
Note that the new PPD I suggested does not use foomatic-rip, it should
work (or not work) independent of the foomatic-filters version installed.

The piece of error_log you pasted showed only some USB timeouts. Whether
they actually prevent your printer from printing is not known.

To determine whether valid PostScript data reaches the backend, you need
to clone your print queues into queues pointing into a file.

Run the command

cupsctl FileDevice=yes

then do for each print queue:

lpadmin -p queue-file -E -v file:/tmp/printout-queue -P
/etc/cups/ppd/queue.ppd

Replacs queue by the actual queue name.

Print into the clone queues, always the same input file, a file which
showed the problem for you.

Make the resulting files readable for normal users:

chmod 777 /tmp/printout*

Examine the files to see whether they contain valid PostScript, have PJL
commands in the beginning, ... Note that if they have PJL commands in
the beginning, evince cannot display their PostScript part on the screen
but gv can.

Are the files OK or are they already without printable data?

If they contain printable data, print them unfiltered to the original
queues:

lpr -P queue -oraw /tmp/printout-queue

For the foomatic-filters case (Foomatic/Postscript queue), do this with
both the old and the new foomatic-filters with the same input file and
attach the /tmp/printout-queue files once the one which prints of the
old foomatic-filters and second, the one which does not print of the new
foomatic-filters.

Bug#663444: bdii: prompting due to modified conffiles which where not modified by the user

2012-03-11 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: bdii
Version: 5.2.5-2
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed the piuparts
upgrade test because dpkg detected a conffile as being modified and then
prompted the user for an action. As there is no user input, this fails.
But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt
shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile
at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded...

This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3,
which says [These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary
questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good
citizens.

http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring
out how to do this properly.

In http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and
followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with
severity serious.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
  N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from

This doesn't seem to be an issue in tmux after all, because tmux 1.6 built

the changelog doesn't bring up any obvious candidates (ncv?).

Sven, any ideas?

Bug#662936: Add check for /usr/lib/php5/version/component.so and missing phpapi-version

 Hi,

Hey,

this is a simple suggestion to add a lintian check for packages which contain
binary plugin for PHP located under /usr/lib/php5/apiversion/component.so

Such packages should Depend on phpapi-apiversion which is provided by PHP
 packages.

I think that would be missing-dependency-on-phpapi. It is triggered
on ELF (real) files installed as:

  ^usr/lib/php\d/.*\.so$

Example of such failure was found in owfs as part of transition from PHP 5.3
 to PHP 5.4: http://bugs.debian.org/662634

Lintian did not notice this becase owfs installed the binary with a
trailing SOVERSION (i.e. libowphp.so.0.0.0 rather than libowphp.so).
For now, I have extended the check to catch binaries with trailing
SOVERSION.

Lintian text should probably recommend something like this:

 Please add something like:
   echo php:Depends=phpapi-`php-config5 --phpapi`
 debian/package.substvars
 to debian/rules and add
   Depends: ${php:Depends}
to debian/control in the package section.

 Thanks,
 Ondrej

I don't know anything about the internals of cdbs, but this looks like
a bug in cdbs, rather than in libnss-ldap's use of cdbs?

Generally I would appreciate if you verified by building against an
older release of CDBS. This package depends unversioned on CDBS so
should (in my interpretation - it is not officially defined TTBOMK)
support _any_ officially released CDBS i.e. even the one in oldstable
(until that one is no longer officially supported by Debian).

Specifically, I did a brief(!) look at the source package, saw no
obvious risk that CDBS caused this problem, but noticed that a) last
maintainer upload was in 2009, b) I believe the package is generally
discouraged and practically replaced by libnss-ldapd, and c) topmost
Makefile.am in upstream code seemingly resolve version using gcc
-print-multi-os-directory against _other_ libraries, a mechanism that
looks suspocious to me and that I guess is affected by recent multiarch
changes.

Perhaps package is unmaintained and should die?

Bug#663450: rosegarden: Rosegarden should recommend wavpack

2012-03-11 Thread John O'Hagan
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:11.11.42-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Recording audio using Rosegarden crashes the program as the audio preview is
generated if wavpack is not installed. The audio was successfully recorded in
the ~/rosegarden folder. I tried to open it with a new instance of Rosegarden
and got an error message about needing wavpack to do so. I installed wavepack
and audio recording works normally.

As, for example, jackd is needed for audio recording in Rosegarden and is
listed as a recommend, I think wavpack should also be a recommend.

Bug#650536: update!

When I was playing with it, this solved a lot but not all of them. Doesn't
this pose an unbackportable change though? I didn't think compat 9
existed in Squeeze.

  - make lintian work for wheezy (but disable internal tests for hardening)
  - backport hardening check to work on squeeze

I just finished a patch that solves these two. I made a data file that
is trivial to regenerate/update using private/refresh-archs (requiring
dpkg-dev from experimental or newer). It also removes the need for
 dpkg-dev at runtime. :)
I know you had some concerns about using data files, but I honestly
think they will be the easiest way to solve the backportability problem.
Since we can use dpkg-buildflags to regenerate it automatically, it
should be trivial to keep it in sync.

I think you've convinced me about the data files. The options shouldn't be
changing terribly frequently.

It also solves one of the test errors as dpkg-buildflags does not handle
 invalid architectures too well.

True.

  - build internal hardening test for all archs (hook to generate tags file)
  - fix other lintian internal tests to work with hardening check

This part still needs some work though.

I suspect it might be a good idea to try the test suite on some
different architectures at some point. These

Cool, I'll spend some time on the branch getting any stragglers building
correctly.

Last I checked we still have an outstanding issue hardening-check
using ldd, which I am not certain will work with foreign binaries (see
comment #39). I suspect it will mostly affect people who do
 cross-builds and lintian.d.o[2].

Yeah, I was just starting to notice this. Inspired by the data file idea, I
think I might do the same for hardening-check and have it build the list of
functions at build-time. I can check if a binary is using libc without
running ldd, and I only needed ldd to generate the function list dynamically.
If it's static, things are faster and more portable. It'll just need updating
from time to time when anything major happens with eglibc.

Votre attention SVP.

Please would you look at the issues again and report back if there is a

Some minutes ago I did release the holds and updated again, now to

Note that my command prompt is two line, so the two lines between a

Please note that I misinterpreted a usability bug in the web frontend to
be related with this bug. I tried to klick Verwaltung-Verfügbare

the header line I can see my printer. This is another bug but one that I
can live with as I never use the web frontend.

I am going back to the working versions. By the way, I have to hold the
following packages to the noted versions:

 $ printf \\$(printf '%03o[?25l' 27)

 Thanks for the test case.

This doesn't seem to be an issue in tmux after all, because tmux 1.6 built
on squeeze has the same problem. However, upgrading ncurses-base from
5.7+20100313-5 (squeeze) to 5.9-4 (wheezy) is enough to make all tmux
 versions work correctly, including 1.3.

I guess something changed in the screen terminal definition, but perusing
the changelog doesn't bring up any obvious candidates (ncv?).

 Sven, any ideas?

It's probably this change (git commit in [1]):

,
| ncurses (5.7+20101128-1) experimental; urgency=low
| [...]
| * Drop the rather outdated screen terminfo from the debian directory and use
| the one provided by upstream's terminfo.src instead.
`

At some point in the distant past, somebody had decided to fork off the
screen terminfo entries and ship them in debian/screen.ti. Which was a
problem because nobody ever took care of updating that file, so I
finally killed it, unfortunately too late for the squeeze release.

Cheers,
   Sven

Bug#654317: Needs creation of /usr/share/man/man1

2012-03-11 Thread Neil Williams
clone 654317 -1
reassign -1 buildd.emdebian.org
retitle -1 Debian installer needs /usr/share/man/man1 created
quit

Once it fails, get to the install menu and select Execute a shell
then create a single directory:

mkdir /target/usr/share/man/man1

Then exit the shell and continue the installation.

It might be possible for Debian installer to gain a bit of support for
this.

Emdebian doesn't include manpages and some packages (and some udebs
apparently) don't expect this directory to not exist.

The installer images are experimental, notably various kernel packages
are missing because most Emdebian devices need specialised or
customised kernels.

The most useful place to discuss issues like this is the
debian-embed...@lists.debian.org mailing list, so I've cloned this bug
to buildd.emdebian.org which goes to that list.

I was able to proceed without a kernel (virtual box test), then the
network mirror needs to be specified manually as: mirror hostname:
www.emdebian.org, Debian archive mirror directory: /grip

Bug#620863: Bug is fixed in testing

2012-03-11 Thread Anton Ivanov
The underlying bug is caused by yaboot having only 5MB buffer for tftp
while images are 6MB+.

They can never load with squeeze yaboot.

The solution is to pluck the yaboot binary from testing (1.16) where
this bug is fixed and replace the netinstall yaboot with it. The easiest
way to do this is to fetch the deb, alien-ize it to a tgz, get the
yaboot from the tgz and put it in the tftp directory.

After that it boots OK.

Brgds,

 llvm-2.8-dev from the archive.
Could you update the build dependency to llvm-dev instead ? (provided by
 llvm-defaults)

Hi Sylvestre and thanks for your report,

llvm-py does not support llvm 3.0 yet, only llvm 2.9. I upgraded the
package to support llvm 2.9 and asked my sponsor to upload it.

Bye,
Carl Chenet

It does not, but debhelper 9 has been backported already, so we can rely

Cool, I'll spend some time on the branch getting any stragglers building
 correctly.

Much appreciated.

Everything was fine until recent updates in SID where RDP clients (both on

working as well as usual, so I suppose it is not a problem due to Xvnc.
That's why I suspect trouble with xrdp.

Is it slow on the login screen? The login screen does not make use of VNC.

Bug#663468: audacious-plugins: [regression] jack output plugin fails to start jack server

2012-03-11 Thread Francesco Poli (wintermute)
Package: audacious-plugins
Version: 3.2.1-3
Severity: normal

Hello,
I've just upgraded audacious on my Debian testing boxes:

  [REMOVE, NOT USED] libmcs1
  [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] audacious-plugins-data
  [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libbs2b0
  [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libguess1
  [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libmpg123-0
  [UPGRADE] audacious 2.4.4-1 - 3.2.1-2
  [UPGRADE] audacious-plugins 2.4.4-1+b2 - 3.2.1-3
  [UPGRADE] libaudclient2 2.4.4-1 - 3.2.1-2
  [UPGRADE] libaudcore1 2.4.4-1 - 3.2.1-2

I think I found a regression: the jack output plugin is no longer able
to start the jack server and spits out errors like the following ones,
as soon as I try to play something:

ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) Cannot connect to server socket err = No
such file or directory
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) Cannot connect to server socket
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) jack server is not running or cannot be
started
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) Cannot connect to server socket err = No
such file or directory
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) Cannot connect to server socket
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_Error(967) jack server is not running or cannot be
started
ERR: bio2jack.c::JACK_OpenDevice(1019) jack server not running?

My setup used to work perfectly with audacious/2.4.4-1 and previous
versions.
I still have the environment variable set:

  $ env | grep JACK
  JACK_START_SERVER=

and the following configuration file:

  $ cat ~/.jackdrc
/usr/bin/jackd --temporary --realtime -d alsa --softmode --hwmeter --rate
44100

If I manually start jackd with the above-quoted command-line, after starting
audacious and before attempting to play something, the jack outplug plugin
works flawlessly and I can listen to music and everything is back to normal.

But apparently, the jack output plugin fails to start the jack server,
when it does not find it already running.

Please fix this annoying bug.
Thanks for your time!

Moving the /dev/tty out of the -c argument makes it possible to
start the browser, but, at least when using a text-based web browser,
such as w3m, the user is prevented from interacting with the browser
itself: as soon as the user presses any key on the keyboard, w3m exits
and the user is returned to the apt-listbugs prompt.
Worse, it seems that the pressed keys are sent to the apt-listbugs
prompt, without being visible on the terminal: this means that entering
one of the possible commands will fail and print the help...

I'm not sure why I don't experience the same disruptive behaviour, even
using w3m myself. This could be due to some differences in invoking
aptitude (I just use to run the curses ui of aptitude within sudo) or in
the environment (/etc/sudoers?), but can't think of a reasonable
explanation.

Anyway ...

At this point, I hope that a radical solution may be found to fix both
this bug (#662865) and the other one (#662983).

... I agree that a more generic and possibly radical fix has to be
found.

Thanks,
Gian Piero.

Bug#663470: xmonad: Recommended packages of xmonad not installable on i386

2012-03-11 Thread Matthias Liertzer
Package: xmonad
Version: 0.10-3+b1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Trying to install the latest version of xmonad on one of my older
(i386) computers failed to install all development-related packages
for xmonad. As configuration is done by recompiling xmonad the package
itself is rendered unusable for everyone who doesn't use the default
config.

In particular libghc-xmonad-contrib-dev, libghc-mtl-dev,
libghc-x11-xft-dev, libghc-xmonad-dev, libghc-x11-dev, and
libghc-transformers-dev can not be installed due to dependencies on
virtual packages, which can't be resolved.

The same bug was present for amd64 a few months ago, but was quickly
fixed back then.

Bug#663473: xen-api: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review proposal

2012-03-11 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: xen-api
Version: N/A
Severity: normal

Dear Debian maintainer,

Hello,

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

If you're interested in suggestions for doing this, you can find some
at the end of this bug report.

The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own
initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report.

Suggestions for future debconf templates review

1) Getting debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.

2) Call for new translations

As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work.

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading
---

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
Last-Translator in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

Bug#482361: mk-build-deps: don't use equivs

2012-03-11 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

I also would have found it a little bit nicer if mk-build-deps would not
use equivs:
 * No additional dependency to remember to install
 * Less noise on the terminal
 * Faster
When I build dozends of packages in a row (which does happen), even a
few seconds extra wait time are slightly annoying.

Greetings,
Joachim
