Bug#561286: to update dzen2 to latest svn build
Package: dzen2 Version: 0.8.5-4 Followup-For: Bug #561286 I wanted to second this request. I use the i3 window manager, and to integrate with dzen2, it requires the -dock switch provided by later versions of dzen2. This is the /one/ package I'm building from scratch these days. . . otherwise, I'm more or less happy with the packages from Debian's repos. Bug#485629: New upstream release
Package: freemind Version: 0.7.1-6 Severity: normal Hi, People sometimes get the impression that Debian doesn't update packages fast enough largely because they install Stable, afraid of words like testing and unstable without realizing that most everyday users will pull from testing, unstable, or some combination with pinning. However, in the case of Freemind, there /really/ is that slow progress people talk about. I hate to see little things like this get in the way of Debian's reputation. Is there some legitimate holdup, like a dependency that's got a licensing problem? Is there something I can do to help? It's just Java, so I can't imagine the distribution needs to be that complicated. Anyway, I'm not a maintainer (yet, at least), but I can help if help is needed. -Sukant -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable'), (80, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages freemind depends on: pn j2re1.4 | java-virtual-machin none (no description available) ii sun-java5-jre [java2-runtime] 1.5.0-19-1 Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment ( ii sun-java6-jre [java2-runtime] 6-16-1 Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment ( Versions of packages freemind recommends: ii iceweasel [www-browser] 3.0.14-1 lightweight web browser based on M ii konqueror [www-browser] 4:4.3.1-1 KDE 4's advanced file manager, web freemind suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#428118: ion3: New upstream release (ion-3rc-20070608)
Package: ion3 Version: 20070506-2 Severity: normal There's a new upstream release that Tuomo claims solves a problem that I'm experiencing in 3rc-20070506. I haven't compiled his version yet to prove that it's really the solution, though. Because there's ultimately a problem with this current version, that's why I've left the priority at normal. Here's the problem. Detached floating windows don't have the correct sloppy focus. Instead, they are behaving like the scratchpad and hording the focus. Ultimately, it's very difficult with key strokes to get from a floating window to another frame. -Sukant -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (90, 'unstable'), (80, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-hole (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ion3 depends on: ii aterm [x-terminal-emulator] 1.0.0-4Afterstep XVT - a VT102 emulator f ii debconf 1.5.13 Debian configuration management sy ii devscripts2.10.4 Scripts to make the life of a Debi ii libc6 2.5-9+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libice6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua5.1-0 5.1.2-1Simple, extensible, embeddable pro ii libsm62:1.0.3-1 X11 Session Management library ii libwww-perl 5.805-1WWW client/server library for Perl ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar Versions of packages ion3 recommends: ii xfonts-100dpi 1:1.0.0-3 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 1:1.0.0-3 75 dpi fonts for X -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#425395: ion3-dev: Can't build latest darc pulled mod_xrandr-3
Package: ion3-dev Version: 20070506-1 Severity: normal Hi, There's no Debian package for mod_xrandr-3, so I have to build it from Tuomo's darcs repository (http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/repos/mod_xrandr-3). The problem is that his Makefile doesn't seem to like the how dev files are fractured between /usr/lib/ion3, /usr/share/ion3, and /usr/include/ion3. I'm not making a recommendation to violate the FHS, but maybe after trying to get that module to compile, you'll come up with a reasonable solution for users that would like to not hack with the Makefile too heavily. Maybe you can even provide mod_xrandr-3 as a Debian package like has been done with ion3-mod-xinerama and ion3-mod-ionflux (although these packages seem out of date right now). - Sukant -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (90, 'unstable'), (80, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.20-hole (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ion3-dev depends on: ii gcc 4:4.1.1-15 The GNU C compiler ii libsm-dev 1:1.0.2-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libx11-dev2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library (developme ii lua5.15.1.2-1Simple, extensible, embeddable pro ion3-dev recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#399123: python-licosmamo: Bug parsing .newsrc files with no articles
Package: python-licosmamo Version: 1.0-2 Severity: normal Hi, I was glad to find that you already wrote some code to parse through a .newsrc file in Python (saved me the hassle), but I found that it didn't work for some .newsrc files that tin or slrn (I forget which client exactly) automatically generated for me. The problem is when I have a line with a : or !, but no article numbers. The self.add(int(item)) line of the NewsrcSet.parse_and_add() function will try to make an integer out of an empty string, which results in an exception. Here's a quick fix: def parse_and_add(self, line): Parse textual output and add the integers to the set for item in [item.strip() for item in line.split(,)]: if - in item: (a, b) = item.split(-) self.add_range(int(a), int(b)) elif item != : self.add(int(item)) That just changes the else to an elif clause, but I'll leave it to you to decide on what's satisfyingly robust. In the meantime, I'll just subclass Newsrc and override parse_and_add(). Bug#395279: toursst: A URL Link would be nice in the maildir entry
Package: toursst Version: 0.0.3-0.1 Severity: wishlist Hi, Sometimes it's nice to load a web browser on some feed entries. The RSS feed provides a linkhttp://link.to.entry/link. It would be nice to have it in the email somewhere. I don't need any HTML hrefs, just a simple Link: http://link.to.entry would be enough. Bug#394312: snownews: Keystoke to mark read without actually reading.
Package: snownews Version: 1.5.7-2 Severity: wishlist There's a keystroke to unmark an item, but the other mark read keystrokes are either for everything, or for all of a feed. So instead, I emulate a mark read by stepping into the article, and immediately qing back. I'd like for there to be just one keystroke. Or better yet. I'd like for the mark unread actually a toggle read that would suit me nicely. Hopefully, this is a sensible request. I have a lot of feeds, and sometimes I like to blow off crap articles explicitly as I go down the list. I haven't looked at the code, but it shouldn't be too crazy to implement, I'd imagine. Bug#385102: linux-patch-debian-2.6.17: broken unpatch/debian script (calls non-existent /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/2.6.17 dir)
Package: linux-patch-debian-2.6.17 Version: 2.6.17-7 Severity: important Hi, I'm just an end user, and I was originally downloading linux-source-version packages to compile them the Debian way with make-kpkg. I decided that it might be nice to save the time downloading the entire kernel source, and instead just download the Debian patches. Also, I thought it might be easy to integrate other patches I have with the same system make-kpkg uses for the debian patches. /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/unpatch is the following script: #!/bin/sh set -e upstream=2.6.17 exec /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/$upstream/apply/debian \ $upstream-0 But there's no /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/2.6.17 directory. This is easily fixed (at least I think it's fixed) with a symlink from /usr/src/kernel-patches/all/2.6.17 - /usr/src/kernel-patches/all, but I'm not sure this is really the best way to go about it. make-kpkg has a lot of pieces to it, and maybe in the long run this is a bad idea. So I was hoping to close this bug you could make this package work out of the box and maybe install some text file in /usr/share/doc/linux-patch-debian-2.6.17 if there's something a simple end user not in the know (like myself) needs to know to get everything working. Package: hdaps-utils Version: 0.1-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, The two apps in this package are kind of just wrappers around the sysfs interface. We're not exactly being true to the HDAPS acronym until we have some protection too. I was just on the ThinkWiki site http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/HDAPS, where there's a link to an hdaps daemon http://www.zen24593.zen.co.uk/hdaps that presumeably parks the hard disk. I haven't tried it out yet, nor do I know if it's the best solution. But it's a start. What concerns me is that this code doesn't have a formal maintainer. Bug#373708: cruft: CAPS idea sounds good... some other considerations...
Package: cruft Version: 0.9.6-0.15 Followup-For: Bug #373708 I think your CAPITALS idea for explain scripts sounds sane. Debian packages are all (I'm pretty sure) lower case as a matter of Policy, so that should work out fine. However, why stop at explain scripts? Why not also roll this out to filter files as well? Maybe this is implied, but I wanted to make the recomendation explicit. I synchronize my explain scripts and filter files between two systems, because for the most part, there's a lot of overlap. However, this leads to the situation where there are package-based filter files in /etc/cruft/filters that are probably best skipped. Since cruft doesn't do that, I just wrote a simple bash script to do some sanity checks to make sure that filter files for uninstalled packages aren't really affecting the final results. Also, with respect to your idea that explain scripts can be smart, I wanted to point out that I found it useful to emulate the may exist semantics of the filter files with the explain scripts by performing an echo $file only if test -e $file. This is kind of a cheap hack, and maybe it might be more convenient if there were three directories: may_exist_scripts/, must_exist_scripts/, and filters/. Note, filters files can not have may_exist semantics because they allow for globbing. In particular, I found this kind of may_exist emulation useful for all the compiled .pyc and .elc generated by auctex, python-support, emacs, etc. If I were the package maintainer, I might be able to specify which files get compiled a lot more rigorously, but as an end user, I have to just be just slightly less conservative -- some of those postinst scripts get pretty involved. Anyway, I'm pretty flexible on the specifics of these recommendations. I just wanted to throw some ideas out there and suggest how I might approach the design. Bug#383364: cruft: Would like to filter out broken symlink reporting
Package: cruft Version: 0.9.6-0.15 Severity: wishlist The one type of false positive cruft doesn't allow me to prune away is reporting of the broken symlinks (can't be done with either explain scripts or filter files). I agree that on an ideal system there shouldn't be any broken symlinks, but in Debian, that's just not the absolute case. For instance, if I install module-init-tools and not modutils (which is typical for recent kernels), I will have broken symlinks for /bin/lsmod.modutils, /sbin/rmmod.modutils, /sbin/lsmod.modutils, /sbin/modprobe.modutils, etc. This might have something to do with how the package scripts interact with dpkg-divert. Also, not installing lib64gcc1 can lead to dangling symlinks like /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.1.2/64/libgcc_s.so if libstdc++6-4.1-dev is installed. What I'd like is for some way to specify broken_symlinks I'm okay with. A simple filter file is probably enough to serve this purpose; an explain script seems like overkill (nobody should have that complicated of an assortment of broken symlinks). So may there can be a /etc/cruft/symlink_filters directory. Bug#383364: cruft: Maybe explain scripts /do/ make sense for broken symlinks
Package: cruft Version: 0.9.6-0.15 Followup-For: Bug #383364 I thought about it, and although I originally thought that filter files make sense for broken symlinks, maybe this is the kind of thing that should be scripted. For instance, broken symlinks for module-init-tools might only be broken if modutils isn't installed. So a script could manage this kind of conditional checking. However, I don't see any value to scripts explaining that a symlink must be broken. Instead, I would give the scripts may be broken semantics. Just to tie it into my recommendation for Bug #373708, there could be in /etc/cruft: must_exist_scripts/ may_exist_scripts/ - globbing could be allowed here maybe? may_exist_filters/ may_be_broken_scripts/ - and here too? may_be_broken_filters/ These directories would allow the end user a lot of control over the output of cruft's report (especially if coupled with your CAPITALS-naming convention idea). Let me know if there are any real problems with these ideas in theory. If it's just a matter of time and priority then maybe some time later I'll have a closer look at cruft's source. Also, I don't know, but are any features in dpkg 2.0 supposed to obsolete cruft? I'll have to look into that too. - Sukant -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#381347: UserPath in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc not working
Package: kdm Version: 4:3.5.4-2 Severity: normal Hi, I remember a time when I could modify the path for the X session programs globally using the UserPath setting in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc. Although at the time this feature was working, perhaps the configuration file was in a different location (I don't recall). Has this functionality moved elsewhere? If so, just let me know hwere it is, and we can close this bug report. But, after Googling around, I didn't find any indication that this was the case. Bug#377306: ion3: Could you compile and include mod_xrandr as well?
Package: ion3 Version: 20060524-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I just installed a small mod for Ion3 called mod_xrandr. A denizen of #ion told me about it and saved me the hassle of writing up a Lua script to restart Ion3 everytime I change the resolution with xrandr. You can find the mod at http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/repos/. mod_xrandr is _very_ small (only 4379 bytes of code); it really doesn't do much crazy. For some reason, Tuomo has't included it with the mods in the standard Ion3 repository. I suspect this isn't so much because Tuomo thinks it's unworthy, but more because he might not be the author of it, so it feel separate from the rest of his work. Still, though, it might be worth while getting his opinion on the code. Even if it is partially broken. I personally wouldn't mind if it were included in the ion3 Debian package, documented clearly as possibly an incomplete work or a silly hack, and by default not selected by the system-wide Ion3 configuration. At least for me, though, it seems to work as advertised. It compiled very easily for me, so if you do decide to include it in the Debian package, it shouldn't be much work to integrate it in on your end. Bug#375788: cruft: Semantics of '**' wildcard barely documented.
Package: cruft Version: 0.9.6-0.13 Severity: normal Hi, I discovered the '**' wildcard in the filter example in the README.gz file. However, this wildcard isn't a standard glob (not in man 7 glob). So although I think the semantics are probably intuitive, I personally would rather see it spelled out explictly in the event there are corner cases worth considering. Also, are there any other non-standard wildcarding cruft allows? And do all the standard patterns documented in man 7 glob apply to the filter files or only a subset? I'd like for the documentation to address all these issues succinctly; just a few more lines in README.gz should do the trick. Bug#374734: acpi-support: Not very flexible; somewhat disorganized.
Package: acpi-support Version: 0.84-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I know this is a new package, so I'm not too worried about these issues, but although I find the scripts in this package a nice and interesting compilation I feel as though it doesn't emphasize configurability right now. It seems as though you're really trying to set up everyone's computer all at once. This is IMHO too much like other distributions and not what I am used to in Debian. To make such a system flexible, I'd try to emulate what apache does. Here's my suggestions: 1) Don't put all the events of the package into the events folder. Rather put them into /etc/acpi/events.available/ or /usr/share/acpi-support/events/ and allow the user to manually symlink or copy them to the events folder. In the meantime, I _can_ make an events.enabled directory in /etc/acpi/ and use the --confdir switch with acpid to use that folder instead. 2) I would also use a symlink approach for your .d directory run-part'ing (similar to what Debian does with the /etc/init.d/ and /etc/rc?.d/ directories). Not everyone wants to resume and suspend with all those options in that order. I see that you've indicated that all these action scripts are package conffiles. I'm not sure I like this approach. I like the idea that you can develop these scripts with time, and these changes can just roll into play via the symlink. For that matter, maybe it makes sense to put _all_ the action scripts in /usr/share/acpi-support/actions/ and not make them conffiles at all. 3) If you're really stoked about the idea of having one package that fits all then I suggest you have a debconf option to enable (install symlinks for) all the events and actions upon the package's installation. 4) acpid and your package put action scripts in /etc/acpi/, but laptop-mode-tools puts these scripts in /etc/acpi/actions/. Personally, I like the all the action scripts and supporting .d directories in /etc/acpi/actions/. It seems cleaner, but as long as there's some consistency, I don't really mind either way. It would be nice if you could talk to the acpid and laptop-mode-tools and come up with some convention on how to organize the directory heirarchy and symlinks. I think you get the idea of what I'm driving at here. I just feel that with this many configuration scripts, the user should be given the opportunity to more easily select what's appropriate for their system. As long as the layout of the scripts and symlinks is documented in a man page, README file, etc., I think this is the way to go instead of the monolithic approach you have right now. Bug#370609: ion3: Alternative implementation of ALTMETA
Package: ion3 Version: 20060524-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I'm not sure how many people are actually using the ALTMETA option (I just got tired of doing a META-k;q;FunctionKey all the time), but I feel as though the implementation might be improved upon. If you feel my idea is simply a matter of style and not really an true improvement, please feel free to close this bugreport. Although, I'll try to make an argument for why I think my suggestion is helpful in the general case. The problem I have is that I would like to reserve one modifying key to handle as much Ion3 functionality as possible. Without using ALTMETA, META is this ion3-specific modifying key. With using ALTMETA, though, I find myself having to remember that for the function keys, I need a different modifying key, except when I want to do what was META-FunctionKey before. Ultimately, I'm toggling between ALTMETA and META in a way that just doesn't keep my modifying keys well organized. With all the hot keys I work with, this can get pretty messy rather fast. What I propose is a subtle augmentation to the current implementation. Somewhere after cfg_debian.lua is called, I define two functions: functionMeta = function () if ALTMETA == then return META else return ALTMETA end end functionAltMeta = function () if ALTMETA == then return ALTMETA else return META end end Then I implement the following sed commands on any scripts that currently use ALTMETA: /ALTMETA\.\.F[^]/s/ALTMETA/functionAltMeta\(\)/ /META\.\.F[^]/s/META/functionMeta\(\)/ By switching ALTMETA with META when ALTMETA isn't the empty string, I make META my primary modifying key for Ion3, using ALTMETA for just the lesser common Ion3 function key assignments. I hope you find this explanation convincing. If so, I hope I've provided enough information to make the task of rolling this change into your package trivial. I've tested these changed on my laptop and they seem to work fine here. Feel free to correspond further about this idea in case there's something that needs more working through. Bug#361672: eclipse-platform: /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins not recognized.
Package: eclipse-platform Version: 3.1.2-1 Severity: normal Hi, Upon a straight installation of 'eclipse' package, there is one plugin -- RCP 3.1.2 -- that fails to install correctly. This is because although there is a org.eclipse.swt_3.1.0.jar in /usr/share/eclipse/plugins, that's not the version that's required by RCP. Instead RCP needs org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.1.1.jar, which is installed by the 'libswt3.1-gtk-java' in /usr/lib/eclipse. At this point, I realized that almost all the plugins were in /usr/share/eclipse/plugins, and not in /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins. The ones from /usr/share/eclipse/plugins appeared to be loading correctly, so I made symlinks in /usr/share/eclipse/plugins to the three plugins in /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins, and everything appears to be working fine now. I did an apt-file search on the entire repository and there are only three packages I found that install into /usr/share/eclipse/plugins: eclipse-cdt eclipse-platform libswt3.1-gtk-java I'm not completely sure about whether these packages should really be installing into /usr/share/eclipse/plugins, or whether something's just broken with the Eclipse installation in general that hampers the useability of the /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins directory. I know Eclipse expects a lot of .eclipsewhatever files in their directories. For instance, /usr/share/eclipse has a .eclipseproduct in it. /usr/lib/eclipse doesn't, but maybe this is completely unrelated. Anyway, there's definitely a kink in the installation that should be sorted out. I've tried to explain the problem as best as I can, but it's possible this report needs to be redirected to another package. At this point, I'm just going to file this one bug report and not reproduce a similar report for any of the other packages involved. Bug#360852: Unpurgeable: problem with postrm script
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Severity: normal Hi, I was suprised that this package wasn't purging it's configuration and was instead exiting prematurely with a -128 code. I took some time to tinker around with a local copy of the postrm from /var/lib/dpkg/info, and was able to get through the problem. Before going any further, here's the one change that got me through the purge (very small). $ diff /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postrm xserver-xorg.postrm.copy 969c969 update-rc.d xserver-xorg remove --- update-rc.d xserver-xorg remove /dev/null I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a fix, but really just a hack to get through a problem that deserves more attention. I came upon this solution by tracing through /usr/share/debconf/confmodule. The error occurs inside of _db_cmd() when it's called by db_purge(). I installed an echo to see the contents of $_db_internal_line in confmodule, and noticed that the stdout of the update_rc.d call (patched above) was somehow being interpreted as a command; there was an error that said something like, removing: command not found, which was a byproduct of the following line from /usr/sbin/update-rc.d. print Removing any system startup links for $initd/$bn ...\n I don't know internal debian package scripts that well at all, so again, I'm not at all certain that this is the proper solution. However, I'm sure that you guys will be able to fix the postrm script in short order. Feel free to E-mail me if you would like more information. Having fixed the problem, I'm not exactly in the mood to reproduce it, so I'm banking on the fact that this problem is reproduceable. In that case, I'm surprised it's hasn't be reported sooner, because this problem doesn't seem like it would vary across installations. Oh well, maybe I just was the first to catch it. - Sukant -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum. To get a Gaim system tray icon, use the docker package. It's a systray solution for window managers supporting WindowMaker DockApps. Using docker /does/ commit you to use the mod_dock Ion3 module, but I find mod_dock rather useful. There are other systray packages out there, but I find that they require needless overhead. Ion3 has somewhat recently begun to support KDE system tray icons natively, but the implementation is KDE-specific. Unfortunately, this makes non-KDE (GNOME) system tray icons appear broken, when they really aren't. Complicating matters further, though, there was a period of time when docker was only displaying one line of pixels instead of the full 24x24 icons. I noticed that as off the 20060305-2 Ion3 version, this problem has gone away (which actually enabled and motivated me to switch from Kopete back to Gaim). Regarding the use of docker with Ion3, I made my own look.lua file that resizes the minimum size of the dock from what DockApps normally use (it's kind of wide and bulky) to 24x24. The code isn't that much so I'll paste it here: dopath(look_atme) -- Using another look_* for defaults de.defstyle(stdisp-dock,{ based_on=*, tile_size={ width=24, height=24, }, }) gr.refresh() Also worth mentioning. Tuomo really hates GTK. The way he talks about it, it seems to be a very personal conviction. However, Tuomo seems to be a really smart guy, so I'm sure there's some set of hacks/kludges that GTK has under it hood that are genuinely ill-advised. But I can't say that GTK's flaws overtly surface to its end users. Still, though, Tuomo is dogmatic about not supporting problems in applications that are GTK-based. Unfortunately, I'm not sure these problems always relate to GTK. Consequently, it really does delay the fixing of some bugs like the one with docker, which may well have been more a problem with Ion3 than with docker (although I can't say for sure). I hope this information helps, and allows the bug to be retagged as resolved. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-hole Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages ion3 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libice6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua50 5.0.2-5.1 Main interpreter library for the L ii liblualib50 5.0.2-5.1 Extension library for the Lua 5.0 ii libsm66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Session Management ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System multi-head display Versions of packages ion3 recommends: ii xfonts-100dpi 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 75 dpi fonts for X -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#358177: More convenient default Ion3 scripts in /etc/X11/ion3/
Package: ion3 Version: 20060305-2 Severity: wishlist It has somewhat irked me that deviations from the /etc/X11/ion3/ scripts are not easily mixed in. Instead, the users have to copy the scripts to their ~/.ion3/ and make changes there. Then Ion3 will default to scripts in ~/.ion3/ and completely ignore files with the same name in /etc/X11/ion3/. The reason I get irked is that any changes to /etc/X11/ion3/ don't roll down to end-users that have done this copying procedure. Their versions are frozen with the copying. What I propose is that users are able to define some booleans in a file, say ~/.ion3/defaults.lua, like disable_mod_dock=true. I'd use negative logic because then in the scripts it would be easy to fit lines with conditionals to check to see if the user would like to mix in deviations. This doesn't have to be done for every little thing. Some Lua code can be easily undone by custom scripts loaded later in the startup process (like selection of a big F12 menu system instead of the default query menu system that Ion3 now uses. However, I'm not sure everything can be so easily undone. For instance, I don't know how to unload modules. This might involve a little more maintenance on the part of the developer and package maintainer, but I think it's the right way to go. Lua certainly isn't hugely difficult to pick up, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea to emulate conventional configuration file formats where possible. One of the reasons I think there's been resistance to this kind of feature is because Ion3 users are generally motivated to keep well-informed of new features in Ion3, and have a firm grasp of configuration with Lua. But I'm not sure I agree with just using this as a justification to keep things as they are. Ultimately, I'd like Ion3 to be convenient for not only myself, but new users too. - Sukant -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-hole Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages ion3 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libice6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua50 5.0.2-5.1 Main interpreter library for the L ii liblualib50 5.0.2-5.1 Extension library for the Lua 5.0 ii libsm66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Session Management ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System multi-head display Versions of packages ion3 recommends: ii xfonts-100dpi 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 75 dpi fonts for X -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#357510: gaim-hotkeys: List toggle not robust enough for Ion3
Package: gaim-hotkeys Version: 0.1.3-1 Severity: normal Hi, I use Ion3 as my windows manager (no desktop enviornment). Ion3 is a light-weight tabbed/tiled WM, very much in the spirit of GNU Screen. Here's the problem I'm seeing. I can use a hot-key to toggle the buddy list. However, if I want to send a message to someone, I hit enter on whomever in the list and a message window pops up. But the buddy list is still in the background (this is Ion3, so it's shown as an inactive tab). At this point, the buddy list isn't really of much use to me anymore, but my hotkey won't close it. Instead, I need to activate the list, and /then/ the hotkey works. But at that point, I can just use Ion's close hot-key. It would be more convenient if I could close the list while another window is active. I verified that this problem does not surface in KDE (didn't try GNOME). I imagine less bugs have been filed against gaim-hotkeys because it's been mostly tested on GNOME and KDE. Still, though, I think it's probably possible to get it working with the smaller WM's as well. If I find the time, I'll try to look at gaim-hotkey's source to see if I can find there the problem is exactly. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-hole Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gaim-hotkeys depends on: ii gaim 1:1.5.0+1.5.1cvs20051015-2 multi-protocol instant messaging c gaim-hotkeys recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: wpasupplicant Version: 0.4.7-4 Followup-For: Bug #355052 I unfortunately didn't realize the this bug had been tagged as fixed when I earlier appended my report that the init.d script doesn't restart correctly. Bug#351665: kopete: Bubble notification stops working intermittently
Package: kopete Version: 4:3.5.1-2 Severity: normal I just upgraded to the version of Kopete in unstable, so if this behavior annoys me, I can always return back to the version in testing. So it seems that the gyrating Kopete icon in the system tray has been replaced with a static chat bubble icon. Unfortunately, this notification isn't exactly strong. I understand that an animated icon can be a bit annoying when you're trying to work, but sometimes I like the option of having that kind of notification. I don't mind the static icon, though, because there's the pop-up bubble notification. The problem I'm having is that my pop-up bubbles stop working after some period of time. If close Kopete and reload the application, the bubbles start working again, but it seems that after some period of time, they stop working. So I should probably admit that I'm not using Kopete with a full KDE desktop. Instead, I'm just using it in a small WM (Ion3). However, I think that Kopete's functionality should be dependent on running in KDE. Also, I haven't verified this problem on any other computer yet. Package: kaffeine-mozilla Version: 0.4.3.1-1 Severity: important Hi, I've marked this bug important, because it actually causes a very hard crash but I know these things can be a little subjective. Here's how I reproduce the problem. I use Ebaum's World, because it's just the first site that I know off the top of my head that has a lot of embedded media, but I'm sure I've seen the problem on other sites as well. 1) Bring up Konqueror and goto http://www.ebaumsworld.com/. 2) Select any of the Daily Media. Note that the plugin actually works for me and the embedded video plays fine. 3) Right click on the link labeled If video does not play, click here to Download and select Save Link As... You should then have a signal 11 (SIGSEGV) crash of Konqueror. I removed the kaffeine-mozilla package from my system, and Konqueror downloads the file fine in that case. As far as I can tell, there seems to be some really bad interaction between Konqueror and the plugin. Bug#343713: ion3: Not a bug
Package: ion3 Version: 20060107-1 Followup-For: Bug #343713 I've talked to the user community including Tuomo (the Ion3 developer) and here's what I believe is the consensus regarding this issue. If you look at the Lua file that the Debian package installs to /etc/X11/ion3/cfg_bindings.lua, you can find the following lines: kpress(ALTMETA..F12, mod_query.query_menu(_, 'mainmenu', 'Main menu: ')), --kpress(ALTMETA..F12, mod_menu.menu(_, _sub, 'mainmenu', {big=true})), Uncommenting the big=true line and commenting out the other line will restore the previous behavior. Tuomo has favored this new text-based method (which relies heavily on Tab complete and Ctrl-Tab traverse selection to select an item from the menu. Actually, I think that Tuomo is definately stepping in the right direction with this change; the previous implementation is bulky and somewhat GUI-oriented in that it relies on arrow keys. The user /can/ just type in the text of the menu entry to be selected. However, in the event of a mistype, I'm not sure it's easy to know what state the query system to unroll selection. I just end up using the arrow keys to reset the state. In the new menu system, I can clearly see the text I've typed and backspace upon a mistype. Those in favor of the previous menu system are free to revert back to it. However, there /is/ definately some room for improvement in the current Debian implementation of Ion3. Tuomo's default installation (from his Darcs repository) doesn't really have a lot of items in it's F12 menu system. However, this package implements a menu system that reveals the Debian menu system, which I believe is derived from Freedesktop.org standards and/or the Debian policy. This reveals a ton of items in the menu system upon a tab completion. It's the same problem faced when upon trying to prematurely tab complete in a terminal. At least in this instance you get a message like Display all 2033 possibilities? (y or n). I like the fact that I can get to a menu system of installed applications, however, there's just too many options revealed at once. What I'd propose is a mix of the old system and the new system. From the old system, I'd retain the feature of only revealing one level of the menu hierarchy at a timei. This way, I can immediately use tab completion right after hitting F12 to see a reasonable slice of my options. From the new system, I like seeing the text that I've typed, and I prefer using Tab and Ctrl-Tab to expedite selection. I'm also okay with the arrow keys working as they do in the new system -- scrolling up and down through a history and moving left and right through the typed text. However to implement this change, I don't know if a change to Tuomo's source code, or a modification to the Debian package scripts, or some Lua scripts are required. I'd recommend that the status of this bug be moved to something more along the lines of wishlist because although there's not something wrong as reported by the original bug report, there are still some wrinkles that should be ironed out that are in the same vein of the original report. - Sukant Hajra -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-hole Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages ion3 depends on: ii libc62.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libice6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua50 5.0.2-5.1 Main interpreter library for the L ii liblualib50 5.0.2-5.1 Extension library for the Lua 5.0 ii libsm6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System Session Management ii libx11-6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxinerama1 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 X Window System multi-head display Versions of packages ion3 recommends: ii xfonts-100dpi6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 75 dpi fonts for X -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#346110: eclipse: Here's the problem. . .
Package: eclipse Version: 3.1.1-7 Followup-For: Bug #346110 The issue that is causing this problem is detailed in the following FAQ link: http://wooledge.org/mywiki/BashFaq#faq24. Here an excerpt of the code in /usr/bin/eclipse that contains the problem. if [ -z ${JAVA_HOME} ]; then echo searching for compatible vm... cat /etc/eclipse/java_home | grep -v '^#' | grep -v '^$' | \ while read JAVA_HOME; do echo -n testing ${JAVA_HOME}... if [ -x ${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java ]; then export JAVA_HOME echo found break else echo not found fi done fi The problem is that the script is *piping* the filtered content of /etc/eclipse/java_home into the while statement. Regardless of the export of JAVA_HOME, it's lost upon exiting the loop. I don't know where this script came from, but it's clearly never been tested in any real setting, because there's no way for it to work unless the user executes it with JAVA_HOME previously exported. There's another complaint I have that I'll just tag along here. I might do the right thing and make a separate bugreport later (else maybe I'll just leave it to someone else). My complaint is that /usr/bin/eclipse uses zenity, but as far as I checked, it doesn't appear to be listed in the package dependencies. I don't think using zenity in a startup script is really the best way to go -- stdout and stderr should suffice. There's no compelling reason to tie eclipse to zenity. I happened to have zenity installed on my computer, but for those that don't, this package will be broken. It seems this script needs to mature quite a bit. - Sukant Hajra -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-hole Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages eclipse depends on: ii eclipse-jdt 3.1.1-7Java Development Tools plug-ins fo ii eclipse-pde 3.1.1-7Plug-in Development Environment to ii eclipse-source3.1.1-7Eclipse source code plug-ins eclipse recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#327178: /etc/init.d/dirmngr doesn't stop
Package: dirmngr Version: 0.9.2-1 Severity: important Tags: patch I found that on my system, the prockill function called by /etc/init.d/dirmngr stop didn't work. I dug into the killproc definition, and I believe killproc should be called with a fully pathed daemon name as an argument (killproc /usr/bin/dirmngr instead of killproc dirmngr).
