Bug#391582: eog: exits without any appropriate error message or exit code if image is not accessible

I don't think that could be confusing (it's just an informative text, and semantically both say the same), but it's not my decision. You should do what's better for Debian, I'm just a happy Debian user :-) Indeed, I changed the string and it seems to work perfectly with translations. I committed the patch now, we'll have to wait and see if it's accepted for etch. Maybe you'd like to adopt it in the 2.16.x version to be included in etch. Hi, Thanks for the heads up :) The patch does indeed add a string, and AFAIK Debian tries to not include any new untranslated strings. However, I did find a similar translated string in the eog source, Image loading failed for %s. I'm not up to scratch with gettext, but isn't it possible to use that string instead, or will this create unnecessary confusion? If it is possible, I would gladly work on this. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=81038action=view -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 760BDD22 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#391582: eog: exits without any appropriate error message or exit code if image is not accessible
Subject: eog: exits without any appropriate error message or exit code if image is not accessible Package: eog Version: 2.14.3-1 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** If you start eog with an image file name on the command line and the image is unaccessible for eog e.g. because belonging to another user and having rights set to 600 (as it's the case with screenshots made during the graphical install and you want wo view them afterwards with your freshly created normal user), it exits with exit code zero and without any error message. The same happens if you select such a file from the open dialog and try to open it: eog exits and gives not any hint why it did that nor what caused the exit. Besides that: If you try to open an unreadable file via the open dialog, the program should not exit completely but instead return to the open dialog and showing an appropriate error message. In this state, eog should in no case in the Debian default installation since it does not interact with the user appropriately. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-486 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages eog depends on: ii gconf2 2.14.0-4GNOME configuration database syste ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc62.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libexif120.6.13-4library to parse EXIF files ii libgconf2-4 2.14.0-4GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.0-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.3-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.14.3-1Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome2-0 2.14.1-3The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-02.14.0-2A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.12.1-6The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.12.1-4GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-0 2.14.1-2The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.14.2-2+b1 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libjpeg626b-13 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii liblcms1 1.15-1 Color management library ii libpango1.0-01.14.4-2Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-9 X11 client-side library Versions of packages eog recommends: ii librsvg2-common 2.14.4-2 SAX-based renderer library for SVG -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
