I'd like to propose a slightly modified patch:

Hi all,
I discussed this a few days ago in #debian-ftp; I think the bug is
probably in rsync but ftpsync is how I ran across it.
My mirror syncs against free.hands.com / ftp.uk.debian.org. With rsync
3.2.5-1 my mirror fails to sync:
Attached.
Thank you,

This same problem happens for SUBSHELL_PAREN, SUBSHELL_COMSUB,
SUBSHELL_PIPE and SUBSHELL_COPROC as well as SUBSHELL_ASYNC
Test case (This must be sourced to see SHLVL == 1 which causes
/etc/bash.bashrc to be sourced in a shell started by ssh)
$ cat test.sh

Hi,
Hrmpf.
This happens if you try to build a minimal patch (and doing the diffs
and tests in different trees) in parallel to sending the diff :/ And
that in time pressure to do it today because I won't have time next week
probably for it and then the timeframe for 11.5 closes...

This might be not more than a "works for tobi" state, as I'm not
knowledgeable in perl…
It is probably not working if build_arch != host_arch, however,
mk_build_deps does not like that today either.
