Cleber Em vez de instalar o gnome através do comando apt-get install gnome, seria interessante você utilizar o comando apt-get install gnome-core. O pacote gnome-core contem somente o essencial para que o gnome possa funcionar, o resto você vai instalando conforme a necessidade.

Mas a questão é que se você faz uma instalação padrão marcando Desktop no menu ele instala o Gnome-core que gera as dependências, que causam o problema. Uma vez tive esse problema, tive q colocar o Gnome numa máquina por causa de um sistema java que precisava ser testado, e só rodava com GUI.

Summary: Debian Squeeze 64-bit was not able to use more than 3.6GB RAM. Linux showed the problem as MTRR not covering all available RAM. MTRR problems can be fixed by kernel if MTRR repair is enabled, e.g. in the 3.2 kernel. However, the using the backported 3.2 kernel resulted in kernel panic.
