Current Config is
S3 Virge GX/2 4mb Card and an
ADI ProVista VD 548 Monitor (Which I can't seem to get specs for ...)
No valid Modes seem to come through and when I run XF86_S3 it falls over.
Any ideas?

I have just bought a secondhand S3 Virge/DX card (Eagle brand). I've
used XF86Setup to get a roughly working XF86Config file, but I think I
should be able to do better. Here's what I can get so far:
1024x768 24bits --- seems to work fine
1152x864 24bits --- works, but some speckle lines

I have a 4mb diamond 3d s3 virge video card. From XFree86.org, I
read that 1280x1024 at 24/32 bpp for a 4 Meg.
However, I can only achieve 16 at 1024x768. When I try -bpp 24, I
get the following output:

XFree86 Version 3.3.2.3 / X
That card, the same one I have, is problematic at 24bpp. Get used to it
at 16bpp. Search last years e-mail archives for details. This question
used to come up a lot.

I am using a S3 Virge DX (375) and SVGALib. I have removed the # in
front of the line chipset s3 in /etc/vga/vgalib.config but SVGALib
can't ID my s3 card, so it forces VGA. Is there any thing I can do to
fix that?
It seems every time I install X I have to get someone else's XF86Config...
Every time I try to start the Server, it violently blanks out, where I have
to violently mash The Big Red Button. Anyway..
