Hola a todos... Tengo instalado el paquete slapd de woody, pero no lo puedo utilizar. Cuando arranca se produce un error: socket failed errno=22 (Invalid argument) que no se lo que quiere decir. La cosa es que cualquier intento conexion con el servidor, no funciona. Esto no me pasaba con la version anterior. Saludos.

pero si lanzo una impresion desde la otra maquina NT contra el Linux, para que a su vez haga bounce a la otra NT, parece que los filtros no hacen nada, y la impresion que sale es texto. Será entonces que este eneté le manda texto al Linux. Prueba com abrir un cmd.exe y hacer type archivo LPT1: o como quiera que se llame el puerto. Si, texto es lo que manda, porque hago las impresion a traves de un driver de una impresora Postscript, por lo tanto, genera un fichero postscript, pero cuando lo envio al spool del lprng, parece que el filtro establecido no hace nada, y por la otra impresora sale el fichero postscript, pero sin ejecutar, o sea como si fuera un fichero de texto normal y corriente. Estoy usando lprng y magicfilter. No creo que sea problema del Linux. Yo tampoco lo que creo, parece incluso que el fichero de impresion no llega a pasar por la cola de impresion de lprng, y se dirige directamente a la cola de impresion del PC de destino, no se como comprobar esto. Estoy utilizando los servicios de impresion TCP/IP de M$. Saludos.

Lo que me extraña es que el fetchmail no sea capaz de hacerlo cuando en su proceso de descarga lo primero que te dice es: tienes 33 mensajes nuevos, y luego comienza bajando 1 de 33 y así... Por eso me pregunté: ¿no habrá una opción que le diga a fetchmail que se quede en el punto posterior a averiguar el número total de mensajes y luego haga un quit? La pena es que yo no sé programar y no voy a entender ni papa si lo intento... pero no creo que sea muy difícil. He mirado en el ordenador donde tengo php3 y pgsql y he visto que en el php3.ini de /etc/phpw/apache tengo una linea que dice extension=pgsql.so. Así que seguro que si pones extension=mysql.so te funcionará. Chafar es el que ha dado en el clavo. Yo recuerdo que esto lo monté hace tiempo y toqué en muchos sitios hasta que funcionó y por eso te comenté lo del fichero en /usr/lib/php3/apache. Pero son estas cosas que te crees que te acordarás de lo que has tocado y luego se te olvida. Ya nos comentarás si te funciona. Saludos

Instalar vmware
Me gustaría instalar el software vmware en mi debian, pero en la página del vmware solo está en paquete rpm. ¿alguien lo tiene funcionando?, ¿como se instala en debian?. Si hay que hacer algo complicadillo necesitaré una explicación detallada ya que soy bastante novato. Saludos.

Voy a intentar ayudarte. Es raro que solo este el paquete rpm. Hace cosa de dos semanas yo lo descargué y estaba en formato tgz. pero es igual, ejecuta el rpm sin dependencias. Realmente es facil de instalar. Lo único que has de tener en cuenta es si quieres red real o no. Hablando del tema con gente que trabaja en empresas grandes, he visto que el planteamiento en contra suele ser no me la voy a jugar con un sistema que no me ofrece ningunas garantías de soporte. También creo que esto se solucionará con el tiempo. Espero que las empresas que dan soporte informático ofrezcan, cada vez más, soporte linux. El empresario lo que quiere es poder llamar a un teléfono y que, en cuestión de horas, venga alguien y le arregle el problema. Tal vez los primeros que se tengan que convencer de que linux funciona no sean los clientes, sino los proveedores de servicios. Que cuando alguien vaya a contratar a un proveedor para que le instale y mantenga un equipo o red, éste le diga: 'Sí, pero le voy a instalar este otro sistema que le va a salir más barato y le va a funcionar mejor'. Hola He puesto la sección unstable en el /etc/apt/sources.list y he hecho: (previa apt-get update !) pinux:/home/carles# apt-get install gnapster se ha bajado lo que quería y entonces ha soltado: E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration ¿? lo vuelvo a hacer (el apt-get...) y detecta que ya lo tiene todo pero em dice lo mismo al final (lo tiene todo, es decir, no se lo baja) Como se soluciona? ¿Ha probado alguien de instalar el Lotus Domino 5 en una máquina con debian utilizando como agente MTA a Sendmail ??. Recientemente actulice de slink a potato y pasa una cosa digamos que curiosa.
antes en /etc/auto.master se le podía pasar a utomount parametros
como por ejemplo el timeout para desmontarse automaticamente
/amnt /etc/auto.amnt -t 5
pero ahora tengo que poner -t=5
Me resulta un poco extraño, por que ademas de no estar documentado,
el automount espera el parametro de la forma -t 5.
No creo que sea un bug, por que lo han hecho con premeditación :-)
pero deberian haberlo documentado.

Compartiendo unidad de HD con SAMBA
Hola a todos, poco a poco aprendo a menajar SAMBA pero con lo torpe que soy y el poco tiempo que tengo no logro hoy compartir una partición, os explico. Tengo /dev/hda2 1296600 39220 1191516 3% /mnt/yaco la cual está con formato ext2 (porque dado su contenido lo prefiero frente a vfat, permisos y esas cosas) y contiene ficheros a compartir entre Linux y Windows 98. El caso es que no se cómo atacar el tema de los permisos y grupos para que los usuarios de ambos sistemas que pertenezcan al grupo yaco tengan esos permisos sobre este recurso compartido. Tal cual está ahora los permisos de la unidad son drwxr-xr-x5 root root 4096 oct 23 13:16 yaco y en /etc/samba/smb.conf así: [yaco] comment = Ficheros compartidos path = /mnt/yaco browsable = yes writable = yes create mask = 0750 # significa que el creador del archivo tiene los # derechos rwx sobre el mismo, el grupo r-x y otros r-- directory mask = 0750 # lo mismo, pero para los directorios #mangled names = yes # convertir los nombres a formato DOS/Windows, # es decir, 8 caracteres para el nombre y 3 para # la extensión. preserve case = yes # no distinguir entre mayúsculas y minúsculas. guest ok = yes Alguien me puede ayudar, estoy un poco perdido. GamersZone: instalación del Quake II
Buenas. Vereis, estoy tratando de instalar el Quake II (sip, la tarjeta del curro no me dá para más... :(( ) que circula por ahí en tar.gz. Cada vez que intento ponerlo en marcha, me peta con un can't load pics/no_se_qué. Me han comentado que es una parte que viene en el cd original. En Inet encontré un site donde ponían una imagen que, una vez montada, te ahorraba el tema del cd, pero parece ser que lo han quitado (¿razones? pues no sé qué deciros...). ¿Alguien puede ayudarme? Mi problema es que estoy intentando instalar la version de Yahoo messenger para Linux, tengo un amigo que utiliza RedHat e intento hacerlo pero el programa no se logeaba con su cuenta. Yo utilizo Debian Potato y quisiera saber antes de intentarlo yo, si alguien en la lista a logrado utilizar el messenger a traves de un proxy o que te tipo de configuracion se requiere, de existir alguna para conseguirlo. tambien quisiera saber si el XChat que viene con el Gnome de la Debian puede utilizarse a traves de proxy pues tampoco hemos logrado que se conecte. A ver me estoy perdiendo. Vamos a ver Jaume. ¿Tú quieres actualizar tu configuración de dominios o actualizar los domnios reales internet?. Si es lo último Pablo te ha respondido a eso. Tienes que actualizar la cache de tu dns, o bien bajas el time que tengas asignado en TTL. Eso hará que se actualicen todos los domnios internet a partir de los servidores dns raiz de tu cache ... Hola:
He creado el usuario-administrador postgres y con este el usuario nobody
al cual he autorizado a crear bases de datos.
Despues entro en el sistema como noboy y hago createdb cine y creo la base
de datos cine despues hago create table pruebas (numero int, nombre char
(16)); y creo la tabla pruebas, ahora introduzco algunos registros INSERT
INTO pruebas VALUES ('0, Jose Antonio'); y me sale por pantalla INSERT
19136 1 me imagino que esto querra decir que se ha creado el registro
despues creo otro registro INSERT INTO pruebas VALUES ('1' 'Jose
Mariscal'); y me sale por pantalla INSERT 19137 1, esto sera que se ha
creado el segundo registro. Despues desde el usuario postgres entro en la
base de datos cine y hago grant select on pruebas to public, para que la
tabla pruebas pueda ser consultada por todes los usuarios. Finalmente hago
select * from pruebas y deberia salirme los registros creado en mi tabla
pruebas, pues bien no sale nada, lo que si he observado es que ahora me
encuentro precedido con una flecha --- de esta manera cuando antes
aparecia la flecha con doble trazo. He creado un escript de conexion
desde web con php3 llamado probando.php3 he intentado acceder y este es el
sigyuiente mensaje de error que aparece. Os atacheo dicho mensaje.
Podeis darme la direccion de algun documento en español donde explique la
administracion de Postgresql, creacion de bases de datos, creacion de
tablas insercion de registros operaciones con todos estos items etc.

Se ha comentado mucho acerca de esos tests en debian-devel. Muchos de los fallos se refieren a cosas que no existen en Debian, pero lo cierto es que el estándar FHS *no* dice que esas cosas *tengan* que existir, como por ejemplo toda la parafernalia del /opt, /etc/opt, etc.

Exacto. Y esto tiene también otra vertiente, en relación al asunto de la consideración que debería merecer Linux por parte de los empresarios. Uno de los grandes problemas del software de pago es que nunca se sabe si se acierta totalmente hasta que se monta un sistema, una aplicación, lo que sea. Y entonces, ya se ha pagado y no hay vuelta atrás, en caso de fallo. Con el software libre puedes hacer las pruebas que sean necesarias, mezclar aplicaciones, modificarlas, caparlas, un montón de cosas que permiten optimizar la inversión realizada. All Estou com um pequeno problema. Meu irmao desenvolve paginas para a net, entao arrumei um micro e configurei para ser o servidor de pagina web, debian 2.2 + apache 1.3.12. Esta funcionando sem nenhum problema. O problema eh que apareceu um cliente pedindo que ele desenvolvesse uma pagina com ASP+NT. A primeira ideia que me vei a cabeca foi a de pegar um micro que esta encostado e instalar o NT+ASP e problema resolvido. Mas ai surgiu a duvida, eh possivel em uma rede ter ao mesmo tempo dois servidores de pagina web, um no linux e outro no NT !?!?!? Por acaso alguem teria alguma outra solucao ?!?!? Primeiramente acho que existe um módulo perl que mexe com ASP. Nunca usei, mas pode ser a possibilidade de usar ASP com Apache em Linux. Você deveria localizar este módulo procurando asp diretamente no dselect. Por outra parte, ter outro NT não é problema nenhum. As far as installing the SVGA server, the package name is xserver-svga. I recommend using apt-get on your cdrom, assuming you don't have networking functioning yet. echo 'deb file:/cdrom stable main contrib' /etc/apt/sources.list apt-get update apt-get install xserver-svga I'm assuming a cdrom install here. For your mouse, make sure that XF86Setup has selected the correct device file. Most modern mice are PS2 interfaces, which is /dev/psaux. If it's a serial mouse on a COM port, the correct device would be /dev/ttySn, where n is the corresponding COM port - 1. ie. for COM1, which is typically what serial mice are on, it would be /dev/ttyS0 Try that and let us know how it goes. If you can get X to come up at all and display actual graphics, congratulations, you have completed one of the hard parts. If not, then: You can check which X servers you have installed by doing: ls /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86* Hopefully one of these will match the video chipset you have. If you don't know what video chipset you have, someone can probably tell you if you know the manufacturer and model. Another option is SuperProbe, which is good at figuring this stuff out. Understand that referring me to XF86Config means nothing to me. I don't even know how to open the file. I'm sure this type of help You will probably want to use 'pico' as your first editor. 'joe' is another good choice. Both of them are fairly non-intimidating, generally do what you expect and importantly have easily accessible online help. Pico is in non-free, but you are likely to have it anyway.

I too would be interested in developing this. I know I can offer up a begining list of questions that don't apear to be answered in any one place with brevity and clarity. But the clarity I personally am looking for is one filtered through windows. I'm a crossdressing newbie. I'm fleeing the apron strings of M$ and trying to learn Linux but constrained by my dos perspective. It's harder to unlearn than to learn afresh so appending M$ similarities to the answers of FAQ's would be enormously helpfull. I know windows, and computing philosphy well so what I want is specific answers to hurdle questions in an order that reflects when I'm likly to encounter them. I don't think I'm too different from most people who arrive at Linux from another path. I decide to learn Linux and begin by obtaining the OS, loading it, setting it up and then adding the applications I want. Having done this hundreds of times with all flavours of MS, OS2 and Mac OS's I'm looking for a parallel type of experience. I suppose I'm describing the need for a How-To but one that is stucture like a FAQ list with plug-in, pull-out answers and links to further reading. A big task but one that would satisfy the defecting user who wants to get their hands dirty in the guts of an OS by building it themselves, like a custom car. Debian Linux is for drivers, not passengers. Because I've driven before, just give me the keys, point out the order of things and I'll work it out from there. I don't want to re-learn, I want to adjust. Anyway, I don't know if I'm subverting the orignal intention but I'll work on an ordered list of questions for whatever group that takes this on. Ian. Hi; I have been bitten with this twice now, so I think that there is more than one issue here. The first time I had just restarted my cron updates after having shut them down as soon as the glib problem was reported on this listmail. I mailed the list on Oct 16,see threadstill cannot access DEbian.org I use postfix as my MTA so it was working then -after- the error from apt-get update, however the following day when I tried to reply to Jason Gunthorpe, postfix failed on sending with the mail stuck in the mail queue. I completely rebuilt the installation from Potato CD's,no woody aps,and all worked fine until I tried to install Pysol from woody,to get sound. Apt-get -d install pysol retrieved nine glib6 related files so figuring that the library screwup had been resolved from comments on the list I installed them. Postfix broke with a stuck mail queue, apt-get broke again and I have just finished reinstalling potato on a separate drive to enable mail. I reckon I will stay down here for mail until I can find out how to repair woody 'cos there is a heap off apps there I don't have room for on this drive. If that solves it then it would confirm my theory that this is caused by buggy DNS servers messing with glibc's new logic... NDS Corporate Edition for Linux - Looking for help
I'm not sure whether this is the right list to make this posting and if not any direction to the correct list would be appreciated. I'm currently a Debian user and love the purity of the distribution and especially apt-get. I'm working on a project to setup Debian servers to run NDS Corporate Edition for Linux as well as Zenworks for Desktops 3 (both Novell products). I'm an experienced user of Zenworks and love what it does for controlling a users Windows environment and distributing applications throughout our organisation. I'm now looking to setup a company where we replace Netware servers with Debian servers (more stable, easier to use and no OS licensing fee) and run NDS Corp Ed for Windows workstation authentication and Zenworks for Desktops 3 (and of course Samba for File and Printer serving). Unfortunately NDS Corporate Edition for Linux and Zenworks for Desktops is only really supported on a Redhat Linux 6.1 or 6.2 platform. It works well on a Redhat platform. I've done a little bit of tinkering with the install shell script supplied by Novell on my Debian server but bomb out half way through. I can't say that I'm experienced enough with these sorts of things to be able to work my way through to a solution. Is there anyone out there that would be interested in helping me get the product to work in a Debian Linux environment. I'm sure there are others out there that would be interested in our results. Obviously this software from Novell is not free. I have a trial version and with a little bit of help from Novell we might be able to make it work on the best Linux distribution. More than happy to forward the 9MB file to anyone who wants to help. If there is anyone out there who would like to help please let me know. I would prefer to use Debian on these servers!!! Debian crashes: sw, hw or malicious hacker/virus problems?
Hello, dear debian fellows! Please forgive my paranoid anonymity, in view of the last section of this message. 1) My problem: I have happily used debian since 1995 (0.93R6 if I recall?). But since I installed 2.1 on my new PC at work, about a year ago, that machine undergoes about a crash per month in average. Nothing to scare a windblows user, of course, but unbearable for someone who knows this should not be so. Especially as these crashes are unrecoverable: screen frozen, mouse/keyboard frozen (no vt switching nor clean reboot possible) and even no access from outside through the network. Thus no alternative to the brutal power switchoff, with subsequent fsck'ing of the whole disk. When does this happen? Always with a heavy load (2-3 users on a 128Mb pentium 400, each with several windows, netscape, emacs etc + some compilation or latex2html going on); always with at least one remote ssh login. I also sometimes had the impression of the mouse freezing temporarily before the total crash, but you know how short time causality can be violated in the human brain. 2) Software problems? In the beginning, I attributed this to the network interface card (3C905C=Tornado) that was not officially supported by Donald Becker's 3C59x driver. Indeed, a twin sister machine (same install, same hardware except for an officially supported 3C905B) had no problem whatsoever. So I fetched the official driver from 3com site, tried a precompiled mandrake kernel with this 3com driver, but the problem remained. I then tried various kernel+3C59x pre- or home-compiled versions (2.13, 2.15, 2.17) but with each I endured at least one crash. I checked the NIC autoconfigured network parameters with ether-diag, found out half duplex generated less error messages but nothing more serious. I installed gnu-accounting package (acct), to see the last commands that were executed before the crash, but found nothing special. 3) Hardware problems? Bored with switching kernels, I followed the hardware problem track. Despite a successful memory test at boot, maybe one of the 2 memory bars was bad? I ran during the summer on half memory, but it ended up by a crash again. I switched the memory bar: problem again a month later. Maybe the NIC slot was bad? I switched with the soundcard last week. No crash yet, but I have reasons to believe it won't help. 4) Hacker/virus problems? During the very first hour of the very first install, I got port-scan attacked (see log below). Bad point for debian, I thought: what is the probability of a PC being attacked in the first hour of its connection to the net? Looks more probable that the attack was triggered by the install process! Anyway, the ports for telnet (22) and ftp (??) were filtered by the local router (except for local machines), I was not running any daemon, so I was not too scared. After watching the logs for about a week, I opened the machine to full internet exclusively through ssh connections which are not filtered by the local router. Until last week, I had no reason to think of hacker origin to my crashes. But last week, I got 2 crashes. And I noticed something very curious in the accounting logs. Among the last processes that finished less than 5 minutes before the crash, there was a bunch of NAMELESS root processes, that started at 0 unix time (Jan 1 1970) and lasted 0 second (!?). I think there is also a need for very short answers to seemingly trivial questions that can be difficult to solve. Over quite a long time I've compiled a list for my own purposes; it's a memory jog, because there are certain problems that come up only at long intervals, at which point you've forgotten what you did last time. Examples: When Xauthority won't work, delete .Xauthority, then run xauth -b. If modem keeps cutting out when you dial, comment out ABORT NO CARRIER in /etc/chatscripts. When changing hostname, make sure you change the entry in /etc/hosts, otherwise hostname -s won't work. All these may be obvious to most people but they've caught me out more than once. I'm thinking of posting them on my linux website. Hello... This is probably a known problem. I checked the BTS some time ago, and tehre was a bug filed against telnet, I guess... It couldn't resolve localhost. --snip-- I am a bit confused. man 5 hosts didn't help... Any ideas? Problem with /etc/fstab
Can anyone help me with fstab... ? I have 2 windows partitions, edited /etc/fstab and everything working, but I would like to only users from fat group can see /c-fat and d-fat/ (my mount points), maked: chown .fat c-fat/ chown .fat d-fat/ chmod 770 c-fat/ chmod 770 d-fat/ but mount overwrite permisions.
