 kdump-tools - scripts and tools for automating kdump (Linux crash dumps)

distribution que tu utilises ;

samba smbldap-tools openssl libkrb53.

apt-get install samba smbldap-tools openssl libkrb53 winbind krb5-user

workgroup = HUVN

security = ads

idmap backend = rid:HUVN=16777216-33554431

idmap uid = 16777216-33554431

idmap gid = 16777216-33554431
template shell = /bin/bash

winbind use default domain = yes

password server = grsh43xadm0001, grsh43xadm0002
realm = HUVN.DIRAYA.SSPA.JUNTA-ANDALUCIA.ES
winbind refresh tickets = yes

comment = Home Directories
browseable = no
writable = yes

[logging]
default = FILE:/var/log/krb5libs.log
kdc = FILE:/var/log/krb5kdc.log
admin_server = FILE:/var/log/kadmind.log

[libdefaults]
default_realm = HUVN.DIRAYA.SSPA.JUNTA-ANDALUCIA.ES
dns_lookup_realm = false
dns_lookup_kdc = false

[realms]
HUVN.DIRAYA.SSPA.JUNTA-ANDALUCIA.ES = {
kdc = grsh43xadm0001.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
kdc = grsh43xadm0002.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
admin_server =
grsh43xadm0001.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
default_domain = huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
}
NULL = {
kdc = grsh43xadm0001.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
kdc = grsh43xadm0002.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
admin_server =
grsh43xadm0001.huvn.diraya.sspa.junta-andalucia.es
}

[domain_realm]

# /etc/nsswitch.conf

#

# Example configuration of GNU Name Service Switch functionality.

# If you have the `glibc-doc-reference' and `info' packages installed,
try:

# `info libc Name Service Switch' for information about this file.

#passwd: compat winbind

#group: compat winbind

#shadow: compat winbind

hosts: files dns winbind

networks: files winbind

protocols: db files winbind

services: db files winbind

ethers: db files winbind

rpc: db files winbind

netgroup: files winbind

Y probamos a

no estaba abierta.

O udev

As an added bit of info: the new 64 bit Adobe 'square' flash player is
installed on my AMD -64 system works GREAT. I don't know about
vulnerabilities, as I suspect 'any' flash related content is a wide open
door anyway. Also another bit of info for those of you who have been
having trouble with Iceweasel...I also installed the .deb version of the
new 'beta' of firefox 4.0xx which was just released, along with the new
flash player they work well together. I also installed the new Google
Chrome 64bit browser with this same flash player The results: they are
'smokin hot' no issues with quality of rendering. Here is the
clincher..I have compared the output of streaming 1080p video on this
same machine running mixed squeeze/sid to the same box running windows
7 pro. the video quality seems to be exactly the same. I can not tell
any difference in video quality believe me there was a serious
difference before. Lets chalk up a win for linux with this. I will go so
far as to say that the Google Chrome browser is way faster than IE 8
running in 64 bit mode seems every bit as stable. I await the bench
test results of those with a more scientific approach, but for me, I can
now play my games, watch streaming video from HULU Fancast. netflix
still does not recognize Linux as a valid OS so I have to use Windows 7
for that. I can provide my installation tips for any that want them.

Similar story to Iceweasel (note the lower-case w!) and Firefox.
(Going from memory here - so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Once apon a time there was Netscape suite - which became Mozilla suite
(a pyrrhic victory!) which became Seamonkey - due to restrictions
placed on it by the Mozilla Corporation, Debian produced the Iceape
version.
That's a little of the history.

Differences:- logos, icons, names etc - plus Iceape is slightly more
configurable (user-agent etc.) and security patches to older versions
are unaffected by Mozilla freezes.
Functionality:- slightly more with Iceape - but I haven't noticed any
difference in performance.

Now - IceWeasel and Iceweasel are/were not the same thing but that's
another story.

Hope that helps Bret, Cheers

RS232-to-USB adapter with dial-up modem

2010-09-17 Thread S D
Hi,

I have a RS-232 external dial-up modem that I use from time to time. It works
fine when connected through a RS-232 port. I'd like to use the modem with
another PC that doesn't have a RS-232 port, so I bought a RS-232 to USB adapter
cable. It's a simple inexpensive cable that doesn't seem to have any
chips/processors in it.

Now, when I connect the modem through a USB port I can't get the modem to work.
It doesn't even attempt to dial the number:

Nonthing special. Well, just that you can establish a dialog with your
modem by sending AT commands and even place calls. And minicom is perfect
for that :-)

If minicom is not able to dialog with your USB-converted modem, then the
problem can lie in hardware. If minicom just plays fine and communicates
well with your device, it could be a configuration/setup issue.

2010-09-17 Thread B. Alexander
I agree with Jesús. This is a far more elegant and scalable solution, though
my experience is with cfengine [1]. This allows you to use svn or cvs to
manage the master files, check out the files to your workstation, make
changes and commit, and depending on how you have it set up, have the
changes automatically propagated. There are actually several similar
packages (cfengine = perl-ish, bcfg2 = python-ish, puppet =
ruby-on-rails-ish, etc.) They all have the same goal in mind, convergence of
system configurations, loosely referred to as configuration management.

(lvm_volume-debian_root) /dev/mapper/lvm_volume-debian_root

Now, I try to install grub again:

$ sudo grub-install --no-floppy --modules=ext2 lvm /dev/sdb

The command finishes succesfully, but when I try to boot from my second

ff5ef7a3-1d16-4a30-a3d5-1751c02c7630 is the uuid of my /dev/dm-0. It
seems now that the image of my grub doesn't have lvm support, even I
activated it in the `grub-install' call.

Any clue about this? Relevant snippet of my grub.cfg, note that there is
no `insmod lvm' stanza!

insmod ext2

Setting max open files inside a chroot

2010-09-17 Thread Alok G. Singh
This question was posted on Serverfault.com[1] by me but I did not get
any responses. Any help appreciated.

I have setup the limits in the host (the chroot being the guest) via
/etc/security/limits.conf and that works just fine:

$ ulimit -n
65535

However, inside the chroot it is still the old value

$ sudo chroot /opt/id/epsilon/
# ulimit -n
1024

I have this in the /etc/security/limits.conf in the chroot too but it
seems to have no effect.

*   softnofile  65535
*   hardnofile  65535

pam_limits.so is enabled for login and sudo inside the chroot. Are there
others I should enable it for ?

umount without sync

2010-09-17 Thread T o n g
Hi,

I saw that it is a common practice to issue sync several times before
umount. I know it's a good practice, but is it really necessary?

If I copy a big chuck of file to my USB, then issue umount immediately,
will I lost any data? I think Linux will make sure all data are flushed
to USB before the umount is successfully finished, but I want a confirm.

How about umount swaps? umount really necessary?

Thanks

You should not lose any data if you wait for umount to succeed afaik.

 How about umount swaps? umount really necessary?

You don't mount swaps so you can't umount them either.

No, it's completely unnecessary as umount does the sync for you. Just
don't unplug removable drives before umount returns.

 If I copy a big chuck of file to my USB, then issue umount immediately,
 will I lost any data?

No. Umount will do the sync and take (at least) the same time to return
as sync would do.

 How about umount swaps? umount really necessary?

That's a different story. When umounting swap, you are forcing the
system to re-read all of swap back into memory (if it's not there
anymore). But how often do you do that manually? Do you put swap on
removable drives!?

umount has been answered already...

 In rsync manual I coudn't find a solution to what I want. I wish to copy
 all my home directory into another machine with the --delete option, but:

 1) I dont't want hidden files, i.e.: `.*' to be copied;

 2) on the other hand, there are some symlinks, beginning with `.', that I
want to be copied.

 The --exclude option won't help.

 From my home directory, if I do:

  $ rsync -vrtul --delete * 192.168.0.2:/home/rodolfo

 , hidden files that are in `~/' are not copied at all nor the --delete
 option applies to files that are in `~/', so it's not good; from /home, if I
 do:

  $ rsync -vrtul --delete rodolfo 192.168.0.2:/home

 , everything is copied, also system hidden directories and files, which I
 don't want.

 I mean, I want hidden files to be copied, except than
 those in `~/': of those, i.e. of the hidden files in `~/', I just want the
 symlinks to be copied.

Thanks to Rob and Karl for their help. The following seems to work:

 $ rsync -vrtul --delete --exclude='rodolfo/.*' rodolfo 192.168.0.2:/home

, and I'll create the symlinks by hand. Maybe there's a better solution: I
wish the `delete' option worked also for files and not only for directories,
but in rsync manual couldn't find that.

 Similar story to Iceweasel (note the lower-case w!) and Firefox.
 (Going from memory here - so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)

 Once apon a time there was Netscape suite - which became Mozilla suite

In spirit only. Netscape 5 would have been a continuation of 4's code base,
but they tossed it out and wrote Gecko from scratch. The browser built on
Gecko was called Mozilla (which had been the Netscape code name since
forever), later it was called Mozilla Suite to distinguish it from other Mozilla
browsers.

 (a pyrrhic victory!)
What?

 which became Seamonkey - due to restrictions
 placed on it by the Mozilla Corporation,  Debian produced the Iceape

Although the current version of SeaMonkey has more features than
the old version that is Iceape

I must be missing something there Kelly, I confess to very little use of

Iceape and Seamonkey (which implies a great deal of similarity), and
both are the same version number (2.0.8 currently). What features does
SeaMonkey have that Iceape doesn't?
I can't find a feature list for Iceape - but then I can't see anything
on http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/features that Iceape doesn't
do... and I've seen nothing in the Iceape lists to indicate that the
reasons for the split have vanished (backporting of security patches, etc).

On a slightly (more) off-topic question - does any one know how fnord
Ubuntu gets around the Mozilla Corp. restrictions with Firefox?

There probably aren't many, but one is to reclaim disk space.

For example, if you use swap files (as opposed to partitions) and the file
system containing a swap file becomes full or low on space, if you're not
currently using too much swap space, you can use swapoff to stop using a
swap file, delete that file, and then have that space available for other
files.

Hello Dale,
I for one am not keen on black on a darkish blue. There is too little
contrast between the two. This is especially true if the writing is
small. A lighter shade of blue would improve the legibility.

It's not just you--human vision has lower spatial resolution for blue,
than it does for green or red, so it's harder to see things, especially
small things (e.g., features of letters in text), in colors that differ
only in how much blue they contain (e.g., blue vs. black, white vs.
yellow). Bigger visual elements can work with lower contrast or with
contrast just in the blue component. Smaller visual elements usually
need higher contrast.

monitor size not supported?

2010-09-17 Thread Rick Pasotto
I just got a new lcd monitor that seems to be working fine but there is
one slight problem.

The monitor is an LG W2040T with 1600x900 resolution so I added
1600x900 to the Modes line of the Display SubSection. When X starts I
get a message from the monitor that the optimum resolution is 1600x900.
X is setting the screen size to 1280x1024.

This difference results in circular objects being more oval than
circular. I can live with this as I do little graphics work but I'm
wondering if there's something I can change to get my circles to be
circles.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log has the line:

(II) CHROME(0): Not using mode 1600x900 (no mode of this name)

I'm using the openchrome driver since I have a KM400 motherboard which
has the VIA chipset.

Did I get the wrong monitor?

 be changed to get it to work with a standard mode. If you could post
 your Squeeze output using the same hardware, that would also be good for
 comparison purposes.

 By all means. Thank you for being such persistent (I knew it was you who

 Not working one:

 Squeeze output:
 http://paste.debian.net/90060/

 By the way, what kind of monitor are you using? Is it a CRT or a flat
 screen panel? Are you using analog output (VGA) or digital (DVI)?

 17 LCD, normal, not wide-screen, using analog output (VGA).

OK, I have looked at your files. The key to Lenny is right here:

   (--) NV(0): Virtual size is 1152x864 (pitch 1152)

The X server picked 1152x864 as the virtual desktop size for some reason.
The corresponding message for Squeeze is

   (--) NV(0): Virtual size is 1280x1024 (pitch 1280)

Which is the desired behavior.

The question is, Why did Lenny pick 1152x864 as the virtual desktop size,
while Squeeze picked 1280x1024? And I don't know the answer. At least
not yet. But that is the problem. Because it picked the wrong virtual
desktop size, it rejected all the 1280x1024 video modes with

   (II) NV(0): Not using driver mode 1280x1024 (width too large for virtual
size)
   (II) NV(0): Not using driver mode 1280x1024 (width too large for virtual
size)
   (II) NV(0): Not using driver mode 1280x1024 (width too large for virtual
size)
   (II) NV(0): Not using default mode 1280x1024 (width too large for virtual
size)
   (II) NV(0): Not using default mode 1280x1024 (width too large for virtual
size)

The double hyphen in parentheses preceding the message text indicates that
the value was probed.

The algorithm used to determine the virtual desktop size should be as follows
(assuming a single monitor):

(1) If the virtual desktop size is explicitly specified in the Display
subsection
of the Screen section, then the specified value is used. For example:

   Virtual 1280 1024

The virtual desktop size is explicitly specified as 1280x1024.

(2) If the virtual desktop size is not explicitly specified, then the largest x
value and the largest y value needed for any of the modes specified in the
Modes line are used. For example:

   Modes 1280x1024 1152x864 1024x768 800x600 640x480

The largest x value is 1280 and the largest y value is 1024. Therefore, the
virtual desktop size is 1280x1024.

What I would try first is commenting out the Modeline statement in the
version of /etc/X11/xorg.conf that you posted and leave everything else
exactly the same. In particular, leave the Modes statement in the
Display subsection of the Screen section alone. Specifying 1280x1024
as the first mode listed in the Modes statement should be sufficient.
If it doesn't work, try explicitly specifying a Virtual statement immediately
above the Modes statement as follows:

   Virtual 1280 1024

If that doesn't work either, then there's certainly a bug in the X server.
Be glad that you found a work-around.
