Re: off topic - squeeze muito ruim
Eu tenho exatamente a opinião contrária do Luiz Noal. You might not need to do so often (I haven't had to do so for my boxes for a very long time) but, if and when you do, it borders on silly... Thanks Tom. Have you or anyone else been able to change the text displayed on the GRUB2 boot menu _without_ editing the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file? Maybe the label/text is stored somewhere and I missed it, just curious. I'm quite sure they are not stored, but regenerated on each 'update-grub'. It might be that the names are influenced by some variable that can be set in /etc/default/grub, but from my experience the documentation needs improving in this area. AFAICT the only documentation we have now is the source as shell scripts. I come across a script called Group Office that does this well via IMAP, also has scheduling / calendar features, Notes, File storage and swapping amoung accounts, a whole host of features. The primary focus of the project is an online group project management solution; but I find it incredibly useful as a general use online organizing tool. They have a community project that is open source and a paid version with additional in house features. I find myself needing to upgrade my instance at the moment due to depreciated PHP code, but outside of putting that off for a couple weeks, I have been using this solution happily on an almost daily bases for several years. their URL is: http://www.group-office.com/ TeddyB

What's unclear from (my post from 06:59:49 today): 1.) A fresh installation from debian 6.0 netinst CD results in an unbootable system, even using a single partition installation target. Ok, that's great! I would say that makes you eligible to file a bug report against d-i. :) Can you diff the grub.cfg against the one generated by 6.0? How should I do that? If stable repos are updated to 6.0.1 then installing a fresh system using 6.0 netinst CD will end up by a fresh installed 6.0.1 system. I don't have the possibility to diff agains 6.0 - the 6.0 systems I continue to have, are quite different HW and for so not comparable. So since update to 6.0.1 every installation on my desktop system results in an unusable/broken system. Can you still make the system bootable again just by removing the extra SATA controller? Does it suffice to remove the disks from that controller? Is there anything else you can do with the hardware or the BIOS to make it bootable again? Re: What happened to debian - does stable keep having any meaning?
Hello, Tom H wrote: Thanks for the diff but it made me go cros-eyed. :) Same happened to me :) Take a look at them below. Your squeeze grub.cfg sets root as sdg2 then sde2 through 00_linux, as sdg2 through 05_debian_theme, and sde2 through 10_linux. I don't have 05_debian_theme on my boxes (deleted!) but looking quickly at 10_linux, the first set root... comes from a grub-probe of the directory corresponding to $GRUB_THEME. I don't need debian_theme, guess it came from christmas addons. I don't care about the look of grub - I just want to bring up the system to start work. To complete confusion, I guess, that debian_theme tries to get some files from /usr/share/... so if /usr is another drive (like in my case), it has to have a different root. Here again the (hdX, msdosY) will point to anything, but the right partition. Currently I'm busy with backup/restore, so can't reboot system. Webmail looks like Exchange Webmail (imho they should design their own webmail, but if Exchange users change to Zarafa, it's easy to use for them) there are repositories from zarafa for debian, the installation is quiet easy Maybe SoGO [2] is also an alternative, but it's more complex to set up... Debian Freeze
Hello, My name is Christopher Holmes and I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am working on a project where we have three computers set up in a mesh network (802.11s). One computer acts as a gateway and is wired to the Internet. The other computer acts as an access point. The gateway and access point communicate wirelessly with 5GHz PCI wireless cards. The internet is accessible via the access point over the mesh network. My problem occurs when a client connects to the access point with a 2.4 GHz wireless card. The client can access the internet through the mesh network. However, after a few minutes either the access point or the gateway freezes and the network crashes. Upon reboot the network works again. Re: iceweasel 4 on squeeze? OT question

Do they work together? What about iceweasel 4 in wheezy? Will that just happen in a few days/weesk/months? Which? (days|weeks|months)? At this point, it is only in experimental. That doesn't establish a schedule for migration to testing. Since we are no longer under freeze, an upload to experimental indicates that the DD uploading the package has doubts about it's quality, and is seeking wider testing before even uploading to unstable. (This may be due to the quality of the upstream software OR packaging changes.) Once the package hits unstable, you can use http://packages.qa.debian.org/i/iceweasel.html to watch the testing migration and watch it move to Wheezy. Normally, I think 15 days is the waiting period, but that can be controlled somewhat by the DD performing the upload to unstable. It can also get hung in other transitions. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. b...@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/\_/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
boot loader
not sure of the topicality of this here but... i've got a computer with ntldr messing up. since i don't have a windows xp disk, i have no way of fixing this (besides torrent). so, i was hoping to find some sort of quick install that just shoved grup on the system and made a minimal partition for /boot (and whatever else is required for grub). as it is, i can't find anything that does this. so i'm curious of everything that grub depends on? just /boot or do i need some config files in /etc and do i need any binaries for it? i'm not interested in maintaining grub from the system (it would just be maintained from a boot cd if at all). i just need it to boot and work. i'm going to use gparted to make a ~10 meg partition (i think that's all i should need). ... unless anyone knows of a system that does all of this for me, then i'll just let it ride and not worry about anything?
Re: Debian Freeze
Have you tried wireshark to monitor the network traffic to see if there is something consistent that leads to the crash? Mark Hello, My name is Christopher Holmes and I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I need helping troubleshooting these crashes. I don't believe the problem is with the kernel because nor hing is written to the /var/log/dmesg. removing debian-multimedia from sources.list
Hi everybody, I had a problem reading 1 iso file with vlc(it works with all others) libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00f5. Regions: 2 4 libdvdnav: ifoOpenVTSI failed I then went to the videolan forum, and found there an instruction to remove the debian-multimedia from the sources.list. Here is an extract of the thread: = A significant number of VLC users on Debian and Ubuntu appear to be hit by bugs in the unofficial so-called Debian Multimedia repository (debian-multimedia.org). This unofficial package repository is well known to introduce incompatibilities in the FFMPEG libraries. This causes VLC media player and possibly some other multimedia software to stop working, as the FFMPEG binary interface is silently broken. The VideoLAN project strongly advises that you do not use the Debian Multimedia repository under any circumstances. Before you report problems with VLC on Debian or Ubuntu, make sure you have not installed any package from that repository. = Before reporting this problem, I followed exactly the instructions. The net result was that: 1/ the problem with vlc remains 2/ I loose k9copy, which seems to be available only from debian-multimedia, and also a lot of useful packages, like transcode, dvd-slideshow,...
