because my sound card is pnp and isapnp is loaded after the sound is
initialize (ot attempted to be initialied). I have a SB/WSS card on my
motherboard, and got the IRQ and IO setting from Win95. I've read all the

I have compiled sounds support as a module and included /dev/dsp and
/dev/audio support in the kernel. I Have isapnp setup and the sound
devices are detected and listed in /dev/sndstat. When I try to play

setup as master on the secondary controller. When I disconnect my drive
on the primary controller, I can boot to my SparQ just fine. I setup Lilo

to work with my Linux box. It has taken a lot of work and I'm not sure
exactly what I did to get it to work, but it does now work. Have you

I had that error too. You can't run Marlstrom in 24 bpp, it must be in 16
or less. That should fix your problem. It took me a while to get it

My sound cuts out on me after using LIcq for a period of time. I'm not
sure what the time interval for it to cut out, or even why it is doing it.
I can't remove the sound module and re-insert it because it is apparantly
in use. Anyone know of a way to reset the sound or something like that?
Can linux recognize a micro-channel nic? I know how to setup the kernel
to recognize an ISA/PCI nic, but does linux support mca cards? If so, how
would I configure the kernel to recognize the mca card? Would I treat it

I suggest a few things. First would be to make a 2.2.x kernel. Sound is
much easier under that system. I run 2.1 with 2.2.5 kernel with no
problems. Biggest pain will be transferring your settings from your old
kernel to the new one, but that's not too difficult. Just kick up two

I have somehow lost my ether connection through my network card. I can

but you should be able to assign your two network cards eth0 and eth1 in
your /etc/conf.modules. In there, you should see something like:
alias eth0 whatever module you have for nic (eexpress in this case)

hwo to network. I want to make it able to login to the router I have and
telnet out. What would be best would be a straight telnet machine without

Actually, it's not quite that easy to setup your nic. You need to know
what you irq and io port your card uses to set it up. Then, you need to
edit your conf.modules and add these lines:

already dirs of those names in /usr/include, so you'llhave to either
delete them or rename them. I recommend renaming them as a precaution. I
don't use debian packages for kernels anymore, so symlinking them to

in their Packages.list file. ACtually, I got the list alright, but
dselect wouldn't d/l the files saying they weren't normal files or
something like that. Just d/l the debs manually and install them.

the same stepping and revision in order to dual-proc them. I have heard
though, that you can have two processors of different stepping and
revision numbers and still multi-proc them, but your performance may
suffer a little.
What type of card do you have? Is it PCI or ISA? If it's ISA, is it
PNP? We can probably get your card going. I am undertaking the same
project with a few more complications. Namely a PS/2 and MCA bus.

Well, probably the easiest way is to check with the manufacturer. How old
is the card? You can try doing a pnpdumpo and see if your card is
detected. If not, it's probably not PNP. Another way to tell is to try
doing a modprobe, but that would involve you compiling a kernel probably.

I'm trying to install Debian on a PS/2 55 sx (386/16) and am running into
a number of problems. First, I've compiled a 2.2.9 kernel for it, and
copied it onto the machine and run lilo, but when I try to boot, it
uncompresses the kernel and says it's booting the kernel, but nothing ever
happens.
Try reading the install documentation. It tells you all you need to know
about installing the base system. From there, you download packages.gz
files that have lists of packages and you select which ones you want.
This is all taken care of in the installation process so all you need to
