How many user mailboxes do you have?  The pricing of some
outsourced solutions which have a per mailbox fee might actually be lower now
that Declude is also an annual required payment.

Yep.  at that price it's time to move to something else
or build our own system.

Declude, come back with something reasonable or you'll lose
customers like IMail did.

So I thought I'd go web browsing on the Declude site and see
what is up with Declude 4.

I'm a Virus Pro and Junkmail Pro licensee on Imail.

Going forward Declude 4 is the entire suite (Virus Pro,
Junkmail Pro and Hijaak).

Kevin's post mentions that Declude 3 will be supported.
Although long term how long will they support two different code sets?

I'd say my long-term gut feeling isn't good.

Next I look through the purchase page. Declude 4 for Imail
is now only available for a $1450 Annual Subscription. Ouch.

The last time I paid maintenance for Declude it was $265.
That's a bump.

(Essentially having only one domain here), That
is mighty pricey especially compared to the Declude for Smartmail 1 domain
price of $199.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Declude prodcut. It's
so flexible that you can do many different things...

I just can't see how smaller entities like me are going to
positively affected by these changes.

Count me as one of those who didn't get the initial message.

As an aside, I think it would be logical that when you're posting
pricing/structuring/packaging changes, to make sure you have someone right
on top of the support list. The rumors are often worse than the reality,
and a lot of people are really paranoid after the IMail fiasco a year ago.

Can't be effective to have to speak to every customer on the phone?

On the
buying issue what do you get, the two products will be kept in parity feature

Barry,

I didn't get the E-mail that you mentioned.

I'm also wondering about what the terms are in 4.0 for new agreements.
The terminology changes from "Service Agreements" to "Subscription".
Those things can have different meanings in this industry. A
"Subscription" suggests expiration of the product, at least to me. If
that is not the case, you might want to clarify that on your site.

Thanks,

[Declude.JunkMail] Text of Changes @ Declude that was sent to on Tuesday.

2006-02-10 Thread Michael Hoyt
"Dear Michael,

Starting this month product and pricing is changing to reflect the
structures used by SmarterMail and IMail. That is to say we are moving to a
Domain/User based structure that more accurately reflects the usage by our
customers. Other changes include:

- Product format - A single product that contains the Pro versions of
JunkMail and EVA and the Standard version of HiJack.

- Pricing - We are moving from the current upfront charge with an annual
service agreement to an annual subscription fee which includes software,
support and updates to both virus signatures and Declude.

This version of Declude will be released under Version 4.0.

The first question that you are probably asking is, how does this affect me?

We recognize your importance to our future and we will do everything within
our means to avoid jeopardizing that relationship. To that end we have
structured two options for you to consider:

- You can upgrade at a special price to the PRO version of JunkMail and EVA
and the Standard version of HiJack and continue to pay an annual Service
Agreement.

- You can remain with your current version and continue to pay the annual
Service Agreement fee as you do today.

Click here http://www.declude.com/myaccount.asp to see your host record and
the special price. If you have any questions please call us (978) 499-2933
between 8am and 5pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.

Best regards

Barry

Barry Simpson"

As I am a JunkMail Standard user with a current service agreement I thought
that this would be an inexpensive way to upgrade to JunkMail Pro and add on
the Declude EVA product (though I do not have a real need for the Hijack
product having only 30 users who all Authenticate and no email relay). The
above email seems to suggest that I was upgrading to JunkMail Pro and EVA
Pro for the "special price". I may have acted precipitously and am
following this thread closely. I am also certain that if I did make a
mistake in my assumptions that Declude will set me straight and make it
right.

[Declude.JunkMail] COUNTRIES and COUNTRYCHAIN and Filters

2006-02-10 Thread Erik
In our GLOBAL.CFG we make use of %COUNTRYCHAIN% to be placed in our headers.

We have several filters that use COUNTRIES

Are these 2 different?

Example of one failed email:

>From the Declude Log:
02/10/2006 11:26:37 QDADA01EA87F1 Triggered COUNTRIES STARTSWITH filter
MN-HOTMAILSCAM on US [weight->0; US UK ].

>From the HEADER using %COUNTRYCHAIN%:
X-MN: Country Chain: UNITED KINGDOM->UNITED STATES->destination

COUNTRIES is showing that it started in US but the COUNTRYCHAIN is showing a
starting in UK. This is causing our filter not to work. Are we doing this
wrong? And it's our understaning that COUNTRYCHAIN can NOT be used in a
filter.

* Our current customers can continue to pay the annual Service Agreements.
* No customer is required to move to 4.0

Over and above that we are continuing to enhance and support both 3.0 and
4.0 and we have provided great deals for customers wishing to move to the
4.0 version and also committed to keeping them on Service Agreements.

I have responded to each and every customer who has contacted me since the
email was sent out and if any one has any further questions they can contact
me either by email or telephone (978) 499-2933.

I have a feeling that the $1450 for a new license and not for a renewal SA.

My question is what the new pricing gives for a product -
Is it for an annual subscription meaning the software will *expire*
[cease to function] annually or for a software contract meaning the
product will continue to function however upgrades etal will not be
available pending expiration of the agreement.

My presumption is present owners will have some sort of 'grandfather'
pricing schedule.

Barry is a good man, not out to take advantage, so he will respond in
good time to all of this. He is also a smart man and I strongly doubt
he will go the 'collaboration suite' aka Imail. He must understand that
1,000's $300 customers are better than a few $1500 customers and no one
would want expiring software - at least in my opinion.

Let's give them time to respond. I'm sure they understand the need to come
back with reasonable pricing on SAs and upgrades.

Declude can't be serious. This pricing is ridiculous. We turned to Declude
because we needed an affordable anti-spam and virus solution. Declude is not
IPSwitch and should not strive to be IPSwitch. IPSwitch lost many customers
over its price restructuring and Declude will see the same thing if this
issue is not addressed.

FYI All,

I did my CMDSPACE and SNIFFER (all
categories have not broken it up yet) combo filter an let it run all day
yesterday. That filter triggered on 37.6% of my mail. I ran it yesterday with
weight 0 and monitored, there were no false positives at all.

Turning it on for real today. Looks like

2006-02-10 Thread John T \(Lists\)
I think we need to stop jumping to conclusions and wait for an official
response from Declude (which should have already happened.)

I have a feeling that the $1450 for a new license and not for a renewal SA.
If that is the case, some one from Declude needs to clarify this on the web
site stating that it is a new purchase, not an annual subscription. I say
this as I can log on to my account and purchase an SA at the $300 something
price.

It is not possible to purchase any of the 4.x components alone. They are
sold as one package. New sales will be the version 4 suite. If you currently
have the 3.x product you can stay with seperate components.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] declude 4 changes ... worried...

2006-02-10 Thread Erik
We won't renew as well if that is the case.

Time already spent with the Declude software in adjusting filters for SPAM
and it's costs and the cost of email software renewal AND other 3rd part
plug-ins for SPAM control; it does not add up for a profit with us as a
hosting provider. If you truly add up the costs of maintenance with Imail,
Declude, 3rd party plugins (sniffer, inv-rbl, etc)... AND the time spent
managing all of it; we are back to where we started and it's better to just
let the SPAM come in.

I agree with you. The reasons we chose Declude in the beginning was the
lower maintenance cost to counter weight the "big boys" costs. And Declude
is far from being a "big boy".

As with you, the lack of the product's advancement has irritated us as well.
There is still NO stable product and yet they promote it.

Guess it's time to go back to open source and/or develop our own spam
program; based on that open source. With the money we've already spent on
all this; we could have it developed.

Erik

I can tell you at $1450 a year for my Declude for Imail, isn't going to fly
very well here.

Ironically, one of the reasons I chose Declude in the beginning was the
lower maintenance cost.
The upfront cost was higher than the alternatives, but the ongoing price was

very affordable.
I belive the product was the best product for Imail integration at the time
I purchaed it.

I also have to say that the lack of the product's advancement has irritated
me.
Yes there was the change to a service, and yes SmarterMail support was
implemented.
But the base product has not not improved in virus/vulnerability detection
or spam detection in a year.
I think that change was the addition of the dynhelo internal test. And I
don't use that test because run a third party test that is more effective.
Looking at the release logs, the last substantial virus/vulnerability
detection or spam additions were in September 2004 with version 1.80.

If the price is going up that much, I really expect the program to be
getting better.

Yep.  at that price it's time to move to
something else or build our own system.

Declude, come back with something reasonable or
you'll lose customers like IMail did.

So I thought I'd go web browsing on the Declude
site and see what is up with Declude 4.
I'm a Virus Pro and Junkmail Pro licensee on
Imail.

Going forward Declude 4 is the entire suite (Virus
Pro, Junkmail Pro and Hijaak).
Kevin's post mentions that Declude 3 will be
supported. Although long term how long will they support two different code
sets?
I'd say my long-term gut feeling isn't
good.

Next I look through the purchase page. Declude 4
for Imail is now only available for a $1450 Annual Subscription.
Ouch.
The last time I paid maintenance for Declude it was
$265. That's a bump.

(Essentially having only one domain here), That
is mighty pricey especially compared to the Declude for Smartmail 1 domain
price of $199.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Declude
prodcut. It's so flexible that you can do many different things...
I just can't see how smaller entities like me are
going to positively affected by these changes.

At that price we will be looking for alternatives.
Considering the cost of declude + sniffer puts us close to $2k.
At that price we have many other options and will explore them for sure.
