What problems might we see if using SWITCHRECIP ON?

That's up to you to discover. :)

Specifically, each E-mail has both an intended recipient (the address the
sender types in), and an actual recipient (the one the E-mail is routed
to). With most E-mail addresses, both are the same (unless you have an odd
official name for the domain, such as mail.example.com in which case the
actual address would end with @mail.example.com instead of @example.com).
The SWITCHRECIP ON option was added by the request of a customer, and
switches the two addresses, which can affect anything in Declude JunkMail
that uses addresses (such as per-user settings).
Since I'm only interested in it for reporting purposes, could I put in the
suggestion box to add both the intended and actual addresses in either the
MID or HIGH LOGLEVEL?
That's something that we will look into. :)

[Declude.JunkMail] Questions about LOGLEVEL MID

2004-02-22 Thread Darin Cox

Hi Scott,

I just switched to LOGLEVEL MID to get more info
for reporting and was puzzled by a couple of things:

1. Domains that are whitelisted for incoming mail
seem to still be tested:

02/22/2004 10:27:14 Qca3e0543037a1ab3 WARNING: DNS

If I'm reading this correctly isn't it a waste of
resources? Just curious. We may actually use this info as a
selling point to ourcustomers that don't subscribe to the spam filtering
services, so it is useful. Perhaps there'sa reason to add a
parameter on the whitelist domain line to indicate whether normal testing should
take place.

2. I see the resolved email address on the
FROM: TO: line in the log instead of the original domain.

to report the original receiving domain?
I'm running 1.75.

2004-02-22 Thread R. Scott Perry

I just switched to LOGLEVEL MID to get more info for reporting and was
puzzled by a couple of things:

1. Domains that are whitelisted for incoming mail seem to still be tested:
Correct. Declude JunkMail gets very complex! For example, if
BYPASSWHITELIST is used, then the E-mail may not actually get whitelisted.

There is, however, a PREWHITELIST ON option that can be used that will
automatically skip the tests if certain common types of whitelisting are used.

2. I see the resolved email address on the FROM: TO: line in the log
instead of the original domain.

If a user alias is used, Declude JunkMail will use the address that the
alias resolves to. There is a SWITCHRECIP ON option that you can use to
change which Declude JunkMail uses (so it would use the alias, not the
address the alias resolves to), but it may cause unexpected problems. Some
people do use it, however.

Thanks, Scott.

What problems might we see if using SWITCHRECIP ON?

I looked through the archives, but only saw a couple of vague references to
it not working or a test failing. It would be nice to know what pitfalls we
may encounter before putting it into productiongrin.

Also curious as to what other drawbacks there might be with this option...it
seems like a no-brainer to use it for reporting purposes. Otherwise it
would be a real pain to figure out which domain user forwarded to a
particular AOL address, for example, and use that info in the report.

Since I'm only interested in it for reporting purposes, could I put in the
suggestion box to add both the intended and actual addresses in either the
MID or HIGH LOGLEVEL?

report the intended address instead of the actual address for me with
1.75...I'm still seeing external addresses for the TO address in the log..

Does the location of the line in the global.cfg make any difference? I
placed it right after LOOSENSPAMHEADERS ON...

Single or multiple tab vs. single or multiple space between SWITCHRECIPS and
ON? I have a single space in there...

Any ideas?

Darin.

Gotcha...I'll try it and let you know what happens...

Thanks, Scott.

Anyone else had any success or problems using SWITCHRECIPS ON?

Darin.
