[Bug 671812] Re: Keyboard layout indicator doesn't show layout

2010-11-15 Thread Yrogirg
I've found the bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/663630

It's caused by removing notification area, in that case keyboard
indicator moves to tray. The ability to remove notification area should
be disabled (at least in GUI), since it is not supported by ubuntu.

[Bug 389176] Re: Explore alternative default behaviors when double-clicking on archive files; Archive Manager is complicated

2010-11-15 Thread Robert Roth
I agree that Archive mounter would be the best solution, even if it
only works for reading only. It could be patched to work for writing
too, or provide user-friendly error messages in case of a write error,
for letting the user know that he has to do something else to modify the
archive. The most common use-case is extracting anyway (at least for
me).

[Bug 675165] Re: External mediakeys block mouse input

2010-11-15 Thread encompass
I have the same issues on my desktop.
I have tried changing mice and it has the same effect. My keyboard how ever is
a Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 and I have a Logitech RX 250 and a Logitech
M-BZ105A (Fancy thing)
Their lsusb numbers are:
Keyboard: 045e:0750
Mouse: 046d:c050
And yes, the problem happens only when I seem to hit any of the keys onthe
keyboard that are extra... so the calculator for example makes this happen.
The calculator will come up but then it seems to have the keep mouse button
contently pressed as the window I was on is highlighting text.
This is a big issue for me as I have grown into quite the habit of using these
buttons.

[Bug 675165] Re: External mediakeys block mouse input

2010-11-15 Thread encompass
And yes... unplugging and plugging back in the keyboard seems to work.
Before the only way I could do it was by going to gnome-do and typing
logout and logging back in again.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I have a USB Microsoft Media Keyboard with Mediakeys and a wireless
Logitech Revolution MX attached to my Dell StudioXPS 1640 Laptop. Every
time I press a mediakey on the external keyboard, the left mouse click
doesn't work on neither the external mouse nor the internal touchpad.
Right mouse click does work fine. If I press any mediakeys on the laptop
  itself, everything is working fine.

The only way to get the mouse working again is to pull the keyboard for
a second and reattach it. The next left mouse click is not recognized
then, but all following are recognized again.

I've worked through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting, but had
to skip the sed-filter on xev to get any results at all. Here is the abbrived
output:

[Bug 195630] Re: Can't change permissions on a folder with nautilus.

2010-11-15 Thread DaneM
Thanks for posting, alexsimps.

Indeed, I have found the umask=022 option to be very useful on NTFS
filesystems in the past. Unfortunately, it's with my '/' partition,
which is ext4 that I'm noticing the problem. I haven't been able to
change any permissions on my NTFS partition using Nautilus, either, but
the real problem is with not being able to change user-owned files on my
'/' partition (partitularly in /home/dane/blahblahblah). I don't really
need to mess with NTFS permissions in Linux very often, so that's not
such a big problem.

I see that this bug was first reported in 2008. Depending on how many
people are affected, does anybody think it should be marked as high
priority? (Not trying to be impatient, but I do think this is quite a
problem for the systems/users affected.)

Thanks.

This file seems to only have 2 channels.

Are expecting some kind of 5.1 upmix? Is this what you get when setting
the totem audio mode to Stereo (manually in totem) and then back to 5.1

Does the same behaviour occur in Rhythmbox?

This could be a bug in pulseaudio, rather than Totem/gstreamer.

[Bug 675604] [NEW] Gnome Disk Utilty calculates new raid partion sizes incorrectly.

2010-11-15 Thread Paul Gregg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

In a new testbed, 4 drive NAS type system with Ubuntu 10.10, I used the
Disk Utility with a pair of 160GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 (ST3160023AS)
drives. I initially created a mirror set and all was ok.

I then pulled the first 160GB drive (hot-swap) and plugged in a 2TB
WD20EARS green drive.

Disk Utility correctly changed the raid array to Degraded, and presented
the new clean 2TB drive. In the Raid Array configuration, I chose to
Edit the components and Add a new drive/partition to the raid set. I
selected the 2TB drive and the utility declared it would create a 160GB
partition leaving the rest of the disk free. All ok I thought, except
when I clicked through to complete the operation I received the error
message:

Error adding spare: mdadm exited with exit code 1: mdadm: /dev/sdb3 not
large enough to join array

How this happened is this. the original size of the partitions from the 160GB
disks were 160,041,833,984 bytes.
The partition that Disk Utility created were 160,039,239,680 bytes - obviously
- mdadm then rejected this partition as too small.

I manually created a partition (fdisk -u ) of sufficient size, and was
able to manually add this to the raidset with mdadm. The GUI tool did
not let me choose the existing partition to add to the set.

Separately, I note that the too begins at sector 63 on the disk - this
is bad thing to do on these large format drives since internally they
use 4KB block sizes and you should start/stop your blocks on these
boundaries. Defaulting to block 63 means that for every block write,
the drive must read the existing block, modify the bytes which will
change and rewrite the block. This slows down write access to approx
1MB/sec. When partitioning/formatting large format drives, you should
start at sector 64 (use -u flag to fdisk when doing this manually).

Thanks,
Paul Gregg

2010-11-15 Thread Kevin Hunter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Based on Bug #62430, it appears that Rhythmbox does not yet (?) support
.pls playlists via the command line. This bug is very similar to Bug
#62430, but is different because rather than just doing nothing,
Rhythmbox crashes now. Before I send upstream I figured I'd first ask
if others can recreate this. Very simple to recreate:

-
$ rhythmbox g\'morning.pls
** Message: pygobject_register_sinkfunc is deprecated (GstObject)
Segmentation fault
-

Anyone else?

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10

[Bug 475845] Re: delay on printing dialog in evince

2010-11-15 Thread Martin Holmes
I'm still seeing this problem in Lucid 64-bit with a networked HP Color
LaserJet CP3525. All activity seems to have stopped on this bug -- why
is that, when it's not fixed, and it has a marked impact on basic user
experience?

Cheers,
Martin

I reported a duplicate bug in 10.10 about this for an EloTouch screen

In /usr/share/hwdata/pnp.ids I confirm there were duplicate IDs for this

ELO Elo TouchSystems Inc
ELO Tyco Electronics

[Bug 675639] [NEW] Problems with characters encoding with html messages and attachements

2010-11-15 Thread Grzegorz Śliwiński
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use default utf-8 encoding for my messages. However, whenever i get html only
message, or html attachment encoded with is-8859-2, I get all strings with
polish diacritic signs replaced by [?] string.
it's especially annoying, since the encoding declaration is usually present
within html document,

[Bug 663261] Re: Evolution does not allow me to save inline images

2010-11-15 Thread Sazhen86
I can confirm that this is a regression from 10.04 as I recently
reverted back to 10.04 after trying out 10.10 and discovering this and
several other problems that prevented me from staying with 10.10.

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2010-11-15 Thread SteveTurner
I think this bug is the same as what's being reported here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1575703

To summarize that thread, when multitasking for an hour or so, the gnome
theme reverts to the default. It doesn't always happen, but it is
happening pretty regularly to me and the other users in that thread.
Opening System-Preferences-Appearances then causes the theme to change
back to whatever the user had previously set it to, except for the icons
(they remain set to the default theme). The following error message
showed up in syslog:

gnome-settings-[1411]: segfault at 4 ip 0838396f sp bfaebdc0 error 4 in
libclipboard.so[8381000+5000]

Since the settings daemon starts when the gnome session starts, I tried
to do a backtrace by using Ctrl-Alt-F2, starting X on dislpay :1, and
running a second gnome session under gdb. After seeing the bug behavior,
I killed the session in the terminal, entered bt at the gdb prompt,
and got the following:

(gdb)bt
#0 0x0012d422 in ?? ()
#1 0x00a16b86 in poll () from /lib/tls/i686cmov/libc.so.6
#2 0x007ac4eb in g_poll () from /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#3 0x0079f0ac in ?? () from /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#4 0x0079f817 in g_main_loop_run () from /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#5 0x002873c9 in gtk_main () from /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
#6 0x08062033 in ?? ()
#7 0x0096dbd6 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.co.6
#8 0x08051291 in ?? ()
(gbd)

I hope this helps.

I have email for my personal domain which uses a Jabber server with a
