[Bug 57205] MimeType values in .desktop files are not regexps

2006-08-22 Thread Ian Jackson
Public bug reported:

DesktopEntry.py says:
def getMimeType(self):
return self.get('MimeType', list=True, type=regex)

However, the MimeType field is not a regexp according to eg
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/0.9.5/ar01s07.html

Callers will have to have been expecting to treat the result like a
compiled re (eg, by calling .match). However, they are also entitled to
look inside and see re.pattern and some callers (eg, gnome-app-install)
know that there is this lack of quoting bug in pygtk

So there is no good answer to this. Perhaps it would be best to invent
a getMimeTypeStringList and deprecate the old method. There are some
cryptic comments in DesktopEntry.py relating to deprecation of MimeType.

To reproduce at least one of the symptoms:
 gnome-app-install --mime-type=text/vndXwapYwml
and observe that an XML editor is offered when in fact no application should be
found. Note that the fix should arrange that
 gnome-app-install
and then typing
 text/vnd.wap.wml
into the search box should still find the XML editor.

[Bug 57231] Gedit keep asking for password though keyring holds it

2006-08-22 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I have the password in question stored in a keyring and most times Gedit
just loads up the file without any problems, but on certain occasions it
asks me about the password though it's in the keyring :/.

Maybe this isn't only related to Gedit cause I have had similiar
problems with Nautilus from time to time.

[Bug 29760] I need Daniel's fix esound-clients to hear sound

2006-08-22 Thread bakavic
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34051 ***

I tried to reproduce markus's solution, but it seems like I need to have
Daniel's fixes as well as have the esound-clients package installed to
hear sound.

I tried rebooting once, and the sound still seemed to work, even though
the /tmp directory had been (automatically) cleared, and thus there was
no /tmp/.esd directory. I then tried to remove the symoblic link fix for
libesd.so.1, but I lost sound. Even when I added back that symbolic
link, there was still no sound. Only when I added the .esd directory
back, did I get sound.

We really need some volunteers to come and confirm our findings.

[Bug 57305] Re: Gaim hangs when you try to paste

2006-08-22 Thread Mark Doliner
What version of Gaim is in Edgy? If it's SVN from the past week or two
then this bug has probably been fixed. It looks like it's related to
when we enabled threads to work around some problems when using d-bus
and also the newer, thread-using version of gnome-vfs. But we have
removed the thread usage now that d-bus 0.92 fixes the problem in a
better way.

Stu tells me that he's pretty sure this is one of several crashes that
seem to have been fixed between 1.50 and beta3, but for which he isn't
sure what commit fixed it.

[Bug 57318] evolution-alarm-notify does not start on session start

2006-08-22 Thread Tolan Blundell
Public bug reported:

The evolution-alarm-notify daemon is not started automatically on login
to Gnome. It only starts after Evolution itself is started.

This is a problem because it means that if you don't start Evolution you
can miss an appointment.

I believe it is reasonable for an end user to expect these notifications
without starting Evolution, as the Gnome panel clock/calendar show EDS
calendar events without Evolution running.

[Bug 57318] Re: evolution-alarm-notify does not start on session start

2006-08-22 Thread Simon Law
Thanks for reporting this issue.

This is an upstream enhancement request. Please contact the
Evolution developers to discuss how to do this.

It's actually pretty tricky. You have to try starting evolution-alarm-notify
at the beginning of an xsession, and the best way to do that is to use
$HOME/.xsession. But that file is not easily parsed by a program.

Will do

Wouldn't adding it to gnome-session make sense? I believe other gnome

[Bug 23828] Re: GDM init script has weird line (breaks it for me)

2006-08-22 Thread Paul Smith
I can reproduce this, but ONLY during installation from the LiveCD.
Also, my testing was with Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS ISO image.

What happened: I write the above ISO to CD and tried to boot with it.
The detected video driver (ati) does not work on my system for
whatever reason, so X failed to start and I eventually got a console
prompt. I used ps and determined that GDM was still running. I ran
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop, then used ps again and determined GDM was
STILL running. No matter how many times I ran it, GDM was never
stopped. If I used kill on it, it stopped immediately.

I ran sudo /bin/sh -x /etc/init.d/gdm stop and discovered that start-
stop-daemon was being invoked with the --exec flag (that is, SSD_ARG was
set to --exec /usr/sbin/gdm). This did not seem to work. If I ran
start-stop-daemon by hand, using the same command line but leaving out
the --exec, it worked fine and GDM was stopped.

[Bug 57344] [Edgy] Focus doesn't always follow window selection

2006-08-22 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

With the latest metacity (1:2.15.34-0ubuntu1) the focus doesn't always
follow to the selected window. At the moment I'm able to reproduce this
with a few tries.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open two gnome-terminals
2. toggle between the two windows with mouse (alt-tab appears to work normally)

you should be able to spot the problem even without typing if you pay
attentio to the cursor (which will be a solid block when window has
focus and outlined box when there is no focus)

[Bug 57346] totem-xine 1.4.3 missing

2006-08-22 Thread Sam Liddicott
Public bug reported:

Totem-xine is pretty decent.
Totem Depends: totem-gstreamer (= 1.4.3-0ubuntu1) | totem-xine (=
1.4.3-0ubuntu1)

Please can we have totem-xine =1.4.3 released to the repositories?

I can do:
  apt-get -b source totem-xine
but I don't know if everyone is comfortable doing this.

[Bug 57347] Option to save session settings is missing at logout

2006-08-22 Thread Paul Smith
Public bug reported:

I believe the log out button and the dialog it creates is managed by
gnome-panel, right? If not please let me know where to file this.

I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (standard install).

In past Gnome releases the logout panel has had a checkbox that allows
you to save your session at logout time. That checkbox is missing in
this release, and it never asks with a separate dialog, so there's no
easy way to save your session!

If I open System - Preferences - Sessions I see that Ask on logout
_is_ checked (but yet there is no query on logout).

The only way I can see to save a session is to check the Automatically
save session box, then log out, then log back in and go back to the
Sessions dialog and uncheck it again.

[Bug 57366] doc: The help file does not state avahi-daemon dependency

2006-08-22 Thread Poningru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The rhythmbox manual (pressing F1 in Rhythmbox or help- content) states that
DAAP sharing is turned on by default: When you will start Rhythmbox, it will
look for all DAAP shares published on your local network (your home or your
office, not the whole Internet) by other users and will display them in the
Source list.
Since we dont turn on avahi-daemon by default (edgy) this doesnt work on
startup of rhythmbox, and will make the user very confused. The help should
state so and instruct the user to install avahi-daemon.

[Bug 49364] Re: message filters on IMAP don't work

2006-08-22 Thread Loe Spee
Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake
Evolution 2.6.1

I have the same problem. The strange thing is, I have Apply filters to new
messages in INBOX on this server checked, but still the filters don't apply.
However a few E-Mails I applyed the filters on in the first days after the
install did move to the specified folders. But selecting a message now an
applying the filter won't work, even after an Expunge or a Evolution restart.

[Bug 50006] Toolbar preference Text beside icons doesn't show the text for some icons

2006-08-22 Thread Olly Betts
Public bug reported:

On Dapper, set to UK English:

System - Preferences - Menus Toolbars

brings up a dialog which has a picker labelled Toolbar button labels.

If I set this to Text beside icons, the Preview shows:

[Document icon] New [Folder icon] [Floppy icon]

I would expect it to show:

[Document icon] New [Folder icon] Open [Floppy icon] Save

If I set Text below icons, I see those labels below all the icons in
the Preview.

This same behaviour is seen in applications - for example gedit
shows labels for Open and Save but no other toolbar items
with Text beside icons; gthumb shows labels for the first 3 toolbar items.
In both cases, Text below icons shows labels for all the icons on the toolbar.

Er, well Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3.1 is basically just 2.0.0 beta 3 + some
critical patches. If you were previously using something from a recent
SVN then it might still be a good idea to verify that the bug is fixed
in a build of SVN from the past day or two.

[Bug 49364] Re: message filters on IMAP don't work

2006-08-22 Thread Loe Spee
Oh WOOPS, I just found a strange thing which caused the bug I was describing.
When adding a filter the Find items dropdown has the option If all criteria
are met selected by default, whereas with the first filter I made it had If
any criteria are met. So I assumed that every other filter I added would have
the If any criteria are met option selected by default, as was the case with
the first filter.

Works like a charm now :) sorry for bothering you.

[Bug 57377] Deskbar's dropdown menu assumes a black-on-white theme

2006-08-22 Thread Warbo
Public bug reported:

Using a theme with white fonts, usually a dark theme, the deskbar's
dropdown list of possible actions still has a white background. Since it
doesn't specify a font colour, the white font is used and the options
all appear empty until they are selected with the cursor keys. A
possible solution would be to use black fonts independent of what the
GTK theme suggests. (I tried looking through various python files for
the background's setup, but couldn't find it)
