[Bug 57205] MimeType values in .desktop files are not regexps
Public bug reported: DesktopEntry.py says: def getMimeType(self): return self.get('MimeType', list=True, type=regex) However, the MimeType field is not a regexp according to eg http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/0.9.5/ar01s07.html Callers will have to have been expecting to treat the result like a compiled re (eg, by calling .match). However, they are also entitled to look inside and see re.pattern and some callers (eg, gnome-app-install) know that there is this lack of quoting bug in pygtk So there is no good answer to this. Perhaps it would be best to invent a getMimeTypeStringList and deprecate the old method. There are some cryptic comments in DesktopEntry.py relating to deprecation of MimeType. To reproduce at least one of the symptoms: gnome-app-install --mime-type=text/vndXwapYwml and observe that an XML editor is offered when in fact no application should be found. Note that the fix should arrange that gnome-app-install and then typing text/vnd.wap.wml into the search box should still find the XML editor. ** Affects: pygtk (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- MimeType values in .desktop files are not regexps https://launchpad.net/bugs/57205 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 57318] Re: evolution-alarm-notify does not start on session start
Thanks for reporting this issue. This is an upstream enhancement request. Please contact the Evolution developers to discuss how to do this. It's actually pretty tricky. You have to try starting evolution-alarm-notify at the beginning of an xsession, and the best way to do that is to use $HOME/.xsession. But that file is not easily parsed by a program. ** Changed in: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- evolution-alarm-notify does not start on session start https://launchpad.net/bugs/57318 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 23828] Re: GDM init script has weird line (breaks it for me)
I can reproduce this, but ONLY during installation from the LiveCD. Also, my testing was with Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS ISO image. What happened: I write the above ISO to CD and tried to boot with it. The detected video driver (ati) does not work on my system for whatever reason, so X failed to start and I eventually got a console prompt. I used ps and determined that GDM was still running. I ran sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop, then used ps again and determined GDM was STILL running. No matter how many times I ran it, GDM was never stopped. If I used kill on it, it stopped immediately. I ran sudo /bin/sh -x /etc/init.d/gdm stop and discovered that start- stop-daemon was being invoked with the --exec flag (that is, SSD_ARG was set to --exec /usr/sbin/gdm). This did not seem to work. If I ran start-stop-daemon by hand, using the same command line but leaving out the --exec, it worked fine and GDM was stopped. -- GDM init script has weird line (breaks it for me) https://launchpad.net/bugs/23828 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: I believe the log out button and the dialog it creates is managed by gnome-panel, right? If not please let me know where to file this. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (standard install). In past Gnome releases the logout panel has had a checkbox that allows you to save your session at logout time. That checkbox is missing in this release, and it never asks with a separate dialog, so there's no easy way to save your session! If I open System - Preferences - Sessions I see that Ask on logout _is_ checked (but yet there is no query on logout). I did try turning the checkbox off, restarting Evolution, turning it on again, and again restarting Evolution. It all didn't help and filters just don't work with IMAP. -- message filters on IMAP don't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/49364 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 57305] Re: Gaim hangs when you try to paste
Er, well Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3.1 is basically just 2.0.0 beta 3 + some critical patches. If you were previously using something from a recent SVN then it might still be a good idea to verify that the bug is fixed in a build of SVN from the past day or two. -- Gaim hangs when you try to paste https://launchpad.net/bugs/57305 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49364] Re: message filters on IMAP don't work
Oh WOOPS, I just found a strange thing which caused the bug I was describing. When adding a filter the Find items dropdown has the option If all criteria are met selected by default, whereas with the first filter I made it had If any criteria are met. So I assumed that every other filter I added would have the If any criteria are met option selected by default, as was the case with the first filter. Works like a charm now :) sorry for bothering you. -- message filters on IMAP don't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/49364 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 57377] Deskbar's dropdown menu assumes a black-on-white theme
Public bug reported: Using a theme with white fonts, usually a dark theme, the deskbar's dropdown list of possible actions still has a white background. Since it doesn't specify a font colour, the white font is used and the options all appear empty until they are selected with the cursor keys. A possible solution would be to use black fonts independent of what the GTK theme suggests. (I tried looking through various python files for the background's setup, but couldn't find it) ** Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Deskbar's dropdown menu assumes a black-on-white theme https://launchpad.net/bugs/57377 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 53098] Re: difficult to recover from Ctrl+Alt+Tab
Yeah, I agree with Karianne, I was able to do alt+tab back to the window without having to go from one desktop to another. I can't seem to reproduce this - but that is normal (for bugs to be unreproducible across machines).
