[Bug 221691] xorg.conf

2008-04-30 Thread Trond Husoe
I have now also checked if the problem could be related to X, and so I
am now copying the content of xorg.conf.

I am also trying to read up on getting debug-information from the X
Server.

Remember: I have a dell d420 with the intel graphicscard. I have a
feeling something is missing here, but I am not sure.

[Bug 218537] Re: yelp crashes silently in GNU-Info Pages

2008-04-30 Thread bzmay
Now the error is different: ***MEMORY-ERROR***: yelp[6915]: GSlice: assertion
failed: sinfo-n_allocated 0
This is from 8.04 release, bug report was from 8.04 beta.

burgwinkel, gdb stops the program at the moment of the crash, so the
window cannot repaint itself. If you type continue, the crash will
run its course and the behavior will be identical.

[Bug 62123] Re: Geyes preferences window too small

2008-04-30 Thread Diego Ongaro
I just tried it out in a hardy vm (screenshot attached).

Ideally, the default vertical size would be increased and the order of
the themes would have some sort of logic.

I'm not sure it's worth any more effort, though. I think it'd be fine to
close this bug now.

Thanks,
Diego

[Bug 224544] [NEW] nautilus dav:// protocol [8.04]

2008-04-30 Thread dynnamitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When accessing a DAV resource from Nautilus (in the Go To: fiel) the following
error pops up:
-
Couldn't display dav://localhost:8088/webdav/db.
Error: HTTP Error: No+resource+or+collection+found
Please select another viewer and try again.
--
(Tesing the same url with 'cadaver' in a shell works fine)

BUT auto-magically there is mounted an shourtcut in the left sidebar (at the
top), and when I click it I can access the DAV.
I can open files directly into gedit for instance.. BUT I cannot save them .

None of the above issues was present in Gutsy.

Howto test:
1) Download and install exist-db: http://exist-db.org/download.html (
eXist-setup-1.2.0-rev7233.jar
2) Start exist with '/bin/server.sh'
3) Dav should now be availiable at http://localhost:8088/webdav/db

[Bug 203527] Re: Clicking on clock applet hangs gnome-panel

2008-04-30 Thread marco.pallotta
I think Sebastien Bacher referred to hardy sru upload
(http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13986760/eds.debdiff) posted in bug #204775.
I think we can follow the building from a debdiff guide
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuPackagingGuide/BuildFromDebdiff) from the wiki
documentation of ubuntu. I haven't tested the patch yet (nor I never used
.debdiff as I am a new .deb user) but I think the steps are:
1) download build-essential fakeroot devscripts
2) download the source of evolution-data-server package (with its libraries)
3) apply the Bacher patch
4) rebuild the package
5) install the new .deb

Backer, can you confirm this?

[Bug 224544] Re: nautilus dav:// protocol [8.04]

This is most likely a GVFS problem, so I'm moving it there.

Debug information would be great. If you could get a Wireshark capture
of the session and see if this problem persists if you use gvfs-mount to
mount the dav location that would be very helpful.

[Bug 223965] Re: Tar lzma nautilus default opening

2008-04-30 Thread A. Walton
That's pretty much what I figured. This is not a bug, but a
configuration error. Application/x-extension-lzma is not the valid
Content-type for a file with an LZMA extension (should be
application/x-lzma). Check that you don't have an entry in
~/.local/share/mime/globs for LZMA (and either remove it or comment it
out if it exists).

Closing this as invalid. Please use answers if you have any more

[Bug 29624] Re: Splash screen on bootup takes minutes to disappear

2008-04-30 Thread Heiowge
My monitor can't display the startup screen - it hasn't been able to
since I put Ubuntu 7.04 on it! My monitor probably can't handle the
resolution. So it goes blank and displays a message about the monitor
being unable to handle the screen resolution and then loads the login
page. This doesn't take long normally, but it seems to hang on this
forever since I went to hardy.

I normally have to ctrl-alt-backspace before it loads the login screen.

I just did

'gvfs-mount dav://localhost:8088/webdav/db'

..and it mounts without any (error)messages... (going back into nautilus I can
now see the new mount)
I can browse the dav BUT the write issue remains. (Create Folder is working)

I haven't tested with Wireshark yet(need to read a bit there).. but it
seems that 'gvfs-mount' is working. Are we sure this is only an gvfs-
mount problem? The HTTP ERROR during mount only happens from within
nautilus.

[Bug 224544] Re: nautilus dav:// protocol [8.04]

2008-04-30 Thread A. Walton
Hmm. The dialog might be a Nautilus problem (trying to access a GIO
location before mounting, which is definitely a Nautilus problem) but
that will need some hunting. Please note that GEdit hasn't been ported
to GIO yet, so it's really not a great test application in this case.

I'm assuming it is a GVFS error mainly because Error: HTTP Error:
No+resource+or+collection+found looks quite a bit like something that
would come out of the GVFS Dav daemon. If you can still browse and read
files on Dav shares, then it looks like we're doing our job so far. We
need to check with Christian Kellner upstream to see if there's a known
issue as to why you'd get that dialog, so I'm CCing him.

2008-04-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the backtrace doesn't seem to be a hang one, how did you get it? what you
should do to get one is:
- run rhythmbox under gdb
- suspend
- resume, go to the gdb prompt, ctrl-C, type thread apply all bt full, copy
the log to a comment

[Bug 162212] [NEW] gtk xinerama

2008-04-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

xorg r200 driver, 2 24 dell screens @ 1920x1200

In feisty I used to use MergedFB to have two screens, in gutsy I have to
use xrandr to set this up. I provide Virtual 3840 1200 in the Display
section, and run xrandr --output VGA-0 --right-of DVI-0 after startup [
can't seem to get this statically configured :-( ]

Most (unfortunately not all) gtk progs, notably xchat, firefox clip
their menus and popups to the left xinerama screen when the main window
is on the right screen. The exception is evolution, that seems to behave
correct. All QT apps (running kubuntu) also work properly.

/me tries a few more applications,...

QT/KDE - good (konsole, amarok, konqueror)
Gnome - good (evolution, gnome-terminal, gnometris)
GTK - buggy (xchat, pavucontrol, firefox)
gvim - good

[Bug 199040] Re: (hardy) can't write DVD-RW

2008-04-30 Thread Andrew Oakley
This problem does NOT occur on a Dell Optiplex 745 desktop with DVD-ROM
CD-RW combo drive, neither before nor after upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy.
I have burned several CD ISOs at max speed in Brassero, and they verify
(checksum) correctly, also browsing the resultant discs in both Ubuntu
and MS-Windows works fine.

However there are a number of people on the ubuntu-uk mailing list who
definitely do have this problem after upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy:

http://www.nabble.com/CD-Burning-with-Hardy-td16969788.html
http://www.nabble.com/Upgrading-to-8.04-tt16901662.html#a16943956

If the developers would like me to provide more information (eg. compare
versions of stuff), please let me know how to obtain it; I am familiar
with the command-line.

[Bug 224583] [NEW] Epiphany jumps back to first screen on dual-head

2008-04-30 Thread Manuel Hermann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

1) Ubuntu 8.04
2) epiphany-browser 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1
3) Epiphany should stay on the right screen on startup when my mouse pointer is
on the right screen.
4) Epihpany jumps back to the main screen, although showing up shortly on the
right screen.

I use dual-head. When I start Epiphany and move my mouse pointer to the
right screen without clicking on the desktop before Epiphany is started,
Epiphany flares up on the right screen and jumps immediately back to the
main screen. When I start Epihpany, move my mouse pointer to the right
screen and click on the desktop before Epihpany is started, Epiphany
shows up on the right screen, but jumps back to the main screen when I
click on Epihpany's window.

This happens only when Epiphany is started maximized and only on startup
of Epiphany. Everything works well when I move a running Epiphany
instance from the main to the right screen.

[Bug 206916] Re: Totem cannot play DVD

2008-04-30 Thread Momo_102
Did you install css? For amd64 there seams to be a bug in the install-
css.sh

sudo gedit /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

You see following two lines:
#available=alpha hppa i386 ia64 powerpc s390 sparc
available=i386

Replace the with
available=alpha amd64 hppa i386 ia64 powerpc s390 sparc
#available=i386

Save the file and do a sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh.
This worked for me.

I don't know if the bug is from Debian, Ubuntu or libdvdread3.

Can you please add this to /etc/apt/sources.list:

[Bug 196263] Re: Desktop icons not appearing

2008-04-30 Thread dLBR
Are you guys running gnome with compiz-fusion? I do, and I got the same
problem, although I am Fedora man. Creating new user or run killall
nautilus every time I log in are a bit clumsy to be called a solution.

I tried this, when it happened:
1/ killall nautilus
2/ not opening anything else, I saved the session with gnome session manager

Logged out and in, and the problem was gone. It even survived even
upgrade of the fusion packages. Give it a try and post the comment, so
we see if it really solves that.

[Bug 224603] [NEW] $HOME/.gvfs cannot be deleted after user is deleted

2008-04-30 Thread adpsimpson
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Hardy Heron, if a new user is created using the
System-Administration-Users and Groups dialogue, the gvfs-fuse folder
/home/newuser/.gvfs is created.

This folder cannot be accessed by any other user, including the root
user. This means the new user's folder cannot be deleted once the user
is deleted:

Listing folder as root user (for my normal user) outputs as below:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo ls -la /home/adpsimpson | grep gvfs
ls: cannot access .gvfs: Permission denied
?? ? ? ? ?? .gvfs

Listing for 'mount' given below:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount | grep gvfs
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/adpsimpson/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
(rw,nosuid,nodev,user=adpsimpson)

Even after the user is deleted, the entry in 'mount' remains. This makes
it hard to completely delete a user from a system.

Although there are other bugs relating to gvfs in launchpad, none seem
to cover the inability to delete this folder when deleting a user from
the system.

Re: [Bug 184977] Re: session start takes very long

2008-04-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi Thomas,

Thomas Koechli [2008-04-29 18:58 -]:
I think it was after the Upgrade for Gutsy, when I had such a delay
in the boot process for the first time. Could it be that Gutsy was
the first release which had compiz enabled by default?

Indeed it was.

I do think that the problem at session start could indeed be caused
by a conflict between compiz and xfcewm. But surely I have no compiz
features enabled. So my question: How to disable compiz completely?

Uninstall the 'compiz' package, or temporarily move the program away:

  sudo mv /usr/bin/compiz{,.prev}

does the startup work normally (fast) after this?

What is the content of your ~/.dmrc file? (In other words, which
session did you select in gdm?)

Thanks,

Martin

[Bug 221710] Re: Brasero doesn't order audio files correctly when adding from a directory

I've tried it with some ogg files and the same result.

Interestingly, if I add the files individually, the tags get read
properly on them straight away. If I remove all the files from the
project and then add the directory in one hit, it all works as expected.
In order to get it to work like this, I have to shut down Brasero and
then re-open it in order to make sure that it hasn't missed any file
tags in its cache.

[Bug 224613] Re: (feisty) nautilus crash moving a file in a smb mounted directory

2008-04-30 Thread Xabi Ezpeleta
Despite of this, the file is copied. But nautilus crashes (the window
closes).

I think is nautilus problem, because this gvfs command runs without
errors:

gvfs-move smb://server/resource/2.txt smb://server/resource/b/
gvfs-ls smb://server/resource/b/
2.txt

[Bug 126333] Re: [GUTSY] Regression - Volume Control using gnome panel applet and keyboard shortcut alternates mute / % volume during sliding

2008-04-30 Thread Karl Dane
I have a relatively unique setup in that I currently have three sound
'devices' running on my machine:

- an onboard VIA soundcard. Relevant entry from lspci: 00:11.5
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237
AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)

- An external USB Terratec 'aureon' sound device. Relevant entry from
lsusb: '00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)'

- An external USB Creative 'xmod' sound device. Relevant entry from
lsusb: 'Bus 003 Device 006: ID 041e:30d0 Creative Technology, Ltd'

I get all sorts of weird and wonderful behavious with this arrangement,
and they're different depending upon which soundcard I'm using.

First of all, the gnome-volume-control segfaults the moment I try to run
it. (You'll probably want an apport or similar trace from this. I'll
sort that out shortly. But I need to learn how to use these tools first,
which I'll do when I'm not being paid by somebody else for my time...)

The VIA works reliably in all circumstances. In particular, the volume
up and down keys on my keyboard work as expected if System -
Preferences - Sounds is set to use that device by default.

When I'm using the terratec box as default, keyboard shortcuts have the
desired effect upon the volume, but the pop-up volume control display is
erratic; the volume bar leaps all over the place with each change in
volume. The volume may have just been set to 20%, but it will show 100%,
then with another change the display will leap to 0%.

When I'm using the xmod box as default (my preferred arrangement) then
it's even stranger; the displayed volume leaps up and down erratically
in the same way as the terratec device (terratic? ;) ) above, but the
actual volume setting also does the same. I can hear this, but I can
also quantify this visually if I have the gnome alsa mixer open at the
same time; the volume bar leaps up and down. But even worse, the balance
bar, as well as the actual balance setting, leaps about the place too.

I should add that changing settings using the gnome alsa mixer 'gnome-
alsamixer 0.9.7~cvs.20060916.ds.1-1' works reliably and as expected on
all of my sound devices.

I agree that this is a low priority issue; certainly not a showstopper,
but I'd love to get this fixed, so I'm very happy to perform any tests
anybody requests of me to help out.

Thanks,

Karl Dane

[Bug 150187] Re: [gutsy] [regression] Evince has very bad quality when printing pdf files.

2008-04-30 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Patch provided here:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/poppler/2008-February/003459.html

works. Please somebody report to upstream (I don't have a bugzilla
account there). I succeded in backporting fix to poppler in hardy, but I
had a problem: there is an additional argument in more recent versions
of poppler:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/tree/glib/poppler-page.cc

static void
_poppler_page_render (PopplerPage *page,
cairo_t *cairo,
GBool printing)

In ubuntu's version, printing is lacking. I used true instead of
printing in my version of the patch and it works but developers should
really take a look to what's going on.

I attach two updated binary packages, diff will follow.
