[Bug 406740] [NEW] [Jaunty] Sharing options in Nautilus don't work correctly
Public bug reported: When I right click a folder in GNOME nautilus 2.26.2 an select sharing options there is always the same display nothing is shared, nothing is selected even if a folder is already shared. Example: I have a shared folder bilder which was shared by using sharing options in nautilus just a minute before (see below), but when opening sharing options on that same folder again, it looks as if the default setting are valid (nothing is checked, nothing shared). So that means I have not only no feedback about the sharing status of a folder - I even can't unselect or unshare the folder by using nautilus alone. Is this a bug or a feature? The tiny tag on the icon of a shared folder, which shows the sharing status, is removed after reboot of the machine but the folder is still shared. I expect that the visual feedback about the sharing status in nautilus represents the current status of the sharing properties of a folder, but this is not the case. smbclient -L //localhost Enter andreas's password: Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.3.2] Sharename Type Comment - --- print$ Disk Printer Drivers IPC$IPC IPC Service (hetis server (Samba, Ubuntu)) laser Printer HP-Laserjet-6P bilder Disk - * Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.3.2] (...) cat /proc/version Linux version 2.6.28-13-generic (bui...@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installiert: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 Kandidat: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 Versions-Tabelle: *** 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages apt-cache policy samba samba: Installiert: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 Kandidat: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 Versions-Tabelle: *** 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages best regards and thanks for any help! - andreas ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Jaunty] Sharing options in Nautilus don't work correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications
Steve Dodier [2009-07-29 22:52 -]: I am not sure that they would like the icons, as they're notification-* icons that afaik only exist in Ubuntu's Human theme right now. Replacing the current icons isn't possible either as these are specially designed for notifications (ie. color only for icons meant to be used in critical notifications, otherwise grey-scale, and not designed for use in a panel at all). Would it be totally bad to use another icon color theme with notify-osd? Most colors should go along well with the dark gray background? For the text comprehensibility in case of a lack of icon, every case should be ok except maybe the trigger of XF86Power while plugged, since one would not know how filled his/her battery is at the moment, only how long till it is full. Is it possible to easily detect the presence of an icon ? Yes, but that wasn't my only concern. If you use a11y technologies, and a blind person is in front of the computer, you do have the icon, but it's not of any value to the user. The other texts were self-contained, can't we just make this last string, too? -- Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 406786] [NEW] Media tab of Nautilus preferences is counter-intuitive
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome During the connection of the Digital Camera, insertion of CD, etc, the default behaviour is to display the dialogue prompting user of what one wishes to do next. In order to change that behaviour the user is expected to go to Nautilus - Preferences - Media (tab), even though for many of those Nautilus is not the primary application. That is counter-intuitive. What happens: User needs to go to Nautilus - Preferences - Media (tab) in order to change the behaviour of the removable media. [Bug 406803] [NEW] user-defined notification of battery status
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager This is a wish! I would like to be able to define via the power-manager a custom notification (time, text, etc.) when the battery is let's say at 50%. [Bug 406514] Re: Remote Desktop applet crashes window decorations
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 309434] Re: Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 289781 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289781 I also think the duplicate status *may* be wrong. Whereas #289781 describes a solution of running setxkbmap after resume, this wouldn't work to fix this bug. In this case, the keyboard mappings are lost every time the external keyboard is unplugged, so running it after resume won't guarantee proper functioning of the keyboard throughout the execution of the application, since a future disconnect of the external keyboard will bring the issue back. This ticket (309434) is the only one that clearly describes what the issue really is. BTW, I'm using a wireless keyboard, which means that every time that my keyboard loses connection even for a split second with its base, it resets my keyboardmap, making this the most annoying ubuntu bug I've come across, and a very important bug one to be fixed for any users of wireless keyboards with custom mappings. [Bug 406875] [NEW] gedit leaks memory in X
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Opening a simple textfile (70 lines) in the gedit and clicking with the left mouse button anywhere to the document causes 2 issues: - on mouse button up the complete text moves 1px left and immediately 1px back, playing tricks with my eyes - the memory usage of the X increases If I am burst-clicking for cca half a minute, then X server eats 50% of the memory and the swapfile grows. After closing the gedit, the memory releases. Afterwards I ran gedit from the commandline: gedit myfile Then I get segfault that is already reported as a bug number 402225. But if I start gedit without specifying the file to open and I select that file from the gedit menu then the file is opened. [Bug 385785] Re: Open location dialog should not close on invalid path
Ideally you'd want to use the NautilusFile machinery, since there's a better-than-good chance that the location being entered has already been cached, but NautilusFile isn't exactly the best way to tell if a file /isn't/ there, so you're almost forced to having to roll your own lookup stuff there (with query_async() and friends). I'm not particularly in favor of this as it adds a whole lot of complexity to something that's pretty simple as it is, and potentially causes some really odd interface bugs, but I guess I shouldn't complain too loudly if I'm not doing the ground work on this ;). -- Open location dialog should not close on invalid path https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/385785 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications
From Richard Hughes, author of GPM, in response to our bug request: For example, right now GPM gives the following notification: title = Power Information message = Laptop battery fully charged (100%). Provides 2 hours 5 minutes battery runtime. Can be made: title = Battery full message = 2 hours 5 minutes battery runtime available Sure, agreed. Some more information: 1) Usually the strings are constructed as follows: DEVICE NAME event time. ( percentage ) DEVICE NAME is chosen to be the verbose Laptop battery to distinguish between phone, keyboard, laptop, etc. However, on systems without any peripherals, it could be just Battery. Additionally, even systmes with peripherals Battery would be inferred to mean Laptop battery, so it may not be necessary. No, I just had battery there before, and I got bugs about _which_ battery it was referring to... If there are no other battery type devices present, I guess this makes sense. 2) having both time and ( percentage ) may be redundant. Only if the time is accurate -- which on some systems it's not. 3) the title Power Information could be dropped for something more descriptive for each event (such as Battery full or AC unplugged) I agree with this. On launchpad I started developing a mock-up patch to test some of these ideas to get user feedback when Martin Pitt suggested we send this upstream since we would also need translation support and feedback from GNOME. Totally, there's no point developing this in sekret just for Ubuntu. The specification also includes new icons, which is discussed on both the ML and launchpad site. I think the new icons could be harder to swallow -- but you could raise this topic on desktop development list and see what the feedback is. Anyway, patches welcomed with open arms. Please do patches against git master. Thanks. Re: [Bug 406599] Re: Power Management Settings Are Not Applied / Retained
Thanks for the debugging info. We have some more commits coming through over the next week (I believe 2.27.3-0ubuntu1 will be officially released Monday on Ubuntu). Let's try to test again once it is released. I'll leave it incomplete for now until we try against the newest release. -- Power Management Settings Are Not Applied / Retained https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406599 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
