[Bug 464458] Re: Music Stops Playing Randomly

2009-11-01 Thread Zeroth Eksaz
I was able to forcefully reproduce the error instead of waiting for it
to happen on it's own. Of course I was running Banshee at the time I
did this. I'll need to try this in Rythmbox and Songbird later to
confirm a theory. What I did was I started up Banshee and started
playing some music. I right clicked the speaker icon in the system tray
and clicked Sound Prefernces. Under the Hardware tab I changed the
Profile from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (IEC958) Input
just to see what would happen and simultaneously causing the error to
happen in Banshee. I just changed the Profile to Digital Stereo
(IEC958) Output + Analog Stereo Input. I'll have to see how long my
music remains playing. I'll report back if it freezes or not. Right
now my belief is that the bug isn't in Rhythmbox but in the new sound
system 9.10 is using as this issue effects not just Rhythmbox but also
Banshee and Songbird. These 3 programs are the only ones I've tested so
far so I can't speak for other music programs. As for Totem it seems
totally unaffected by the issue.

[Bug 464458] Re: Music Stops Playing Randomly

2009-11-01 Thread Zeroth Eksaz
This is probably not related to my bug submission so I don't know how
relevant this information is. But, one change I noticed after changing
my sound Profile is that now when I use the mouse to move the primary
volume bar on the sound icon in the system tray my audio actually
changes this time as before it didn't. Before the only volume bars that
had any effect on altering sound where the Alert volume and the volume
bars in the Applications tab when music/video software is running.

errors state that this is a problem in gstreamer, i have fmpeg
installed on my system (ubuntu 9.10 i386) and totem does not use it goes
to search for suitable plugins and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is all that is
found. at this point all i can think of is to find a way to force totem
to use ffmpg and not gstreamer and see if that fixes it. one moment and
i will attach screen shots

2009-11-01 Thread Zeroth Eksaz
I just played an entire album without Rythmbox screwing up on me. Looks
like my theory was correct. The issue was related to the Profile
selection in the new sound system. Changing it to [Digital Stereo
(IEC958) Output + Analog Stereo input] seemed to have fixed the
problem... so far. knocks on wood Why it was on [Analog Stereo
Duplex] as the default, I have no idea but the issue is solved.

[Bug 467997] [NEW] Gnome add to panel add (custom) Menu Bar | icon size is too big!

2009-11-01 Thread mr. adams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, having a Menu Bar (custom menu
bar) (with (Ubuntu Icon) | Applications | Places | System) present on
the Gnome panel nearly doubles the size of all icons in the panel.
Trying to change the icon size via the panel's Properties has no effect.

Removing the custom menu bar changes all icons back to the right size.
Icon size can now be changed via Properties. Adding to the panel a Main
Menu (the main GNOME menu) works as expected.

How do I add a the Menu Bar without the exaggerated icon size?

2009-11-01 Thread shushek
i was trying to install gdm as i was unable to see screen resolution

gave me the error saying that it is not getting installed.

I'm not very good with Ubuntu so pardon me for my language.

[Bug 446743] Re: gdmsetup allows autologin even when home directories are encrypted

2009-11-01 Thread Steinar Myrvang
Another way to get around this bug is really:
CTR + ALT + F1
Login with your username and password
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

You will autologin again, but your home directory is now decrypted
because you have entered the password.

[Bug 465964] Re: Nautilus doesn't recognize .MTS file extensions as AVCHD media.

2009-11-01 Thread Neil Wilson
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you want an AVHCD file attaching?

The file manager lists all '.MTS' files as 'unknown
(application/octet-stream)' even with 'vlc' installed which can play
those files.

Movie Player can't play the files - even after plugin search -
complaining about 'The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2
Transport Stream demuxer plugin which is not installed.'

AVHCD files are generated by modern HD camcorders. (mine is a Canon
HF100).

Thank you for your bug report, could you add an example to the bug? Is

[Bug 468132] [NEW] Evolution doesn't add words to dictionary

2009-11-01 Thread robbanl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When spell checking is enabled you get the option to add a word not
recognized by evolution to the dictionary. The problem is that the words
i add doesn't save. I use the Swedish translation and dictionary.

To reproduce this issue.

1. Open a new message
2. Spell a word wrong.
3. Right click the word and choose add to dictionary.
4. The word doesn't get saved and you get the same underlined word again when
typing a new message.

[Bug 447888] Re: restore file not accepted

2009-11-01 Thread zig59
**SOLVED** for me anyway.

Under Jaunty 9.04 I had created a folder of backup settings including the
evolution-backup.tar.gz file.
After installaing Koala 9.10 I copied the backup FOLDER into my Home directory
and tried to restore the evolution backup using the file within this folder.
This DIDN'T work.
However moving the evolution-backup.tar.gz FILE directly into my Home directory
allowed Evolution to restore all my emails, contacts and other stuff just fine.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 468153] [NEW] login screen progress bar screen misaligned on dual-head setups

2009-11-01 Thread wdesmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When logging in, a progress bar (back and forth type) is displayed with
some text while presumably gnome is started. Unfortunately, on my dual
head setup this is displayed either on the wrong screen or with the
wrong resolution.

My setup is an ATI card and two screens of different resolutions. When I
log in, the progress bar is displayed on my left screen (the secondary
monitor), which is the smaller one of the two (the right screen is the
primary monitor). But it is sized at the size of the right screen, which
is wider and taller, meaning the progress dialog spills over onto the
right screen.

Some ways this could be fixed:
- pick the resolution of the monitor it's displaying on
- display on the primary monitor
- clone on both displays (would really be preferrable)

2009-11-01 Thread Sarraceno
No, still not ok.

After post this bug I did upgrade two of my computers from 9.04 into 9.10n
(Ubunut Desktop, Ubuntu Studio) at home, only mediacenter is waiting, I need to
be sure that one having sound after upgrade.
So, on the two I upgraded are fine, for for those I answered always to replace
config files, for my work laptop I didn't begin afraid of next day I would have
the machine available to go work...

So, it's possible that I need to refresh/reconfigure some package. Does
any one know what?

The packages for alsa that I have are:

[Bug 468183] [NEW] Album picture displayed in notify doesn't change while using shuffle

2009-11-01 Thread hofsmo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Album covers displayed in notify almost never change while I'm using
shuffle playback, with normal playback everything works fine. It seems
the change album cover interval is determined by the number of songs in
the album it displays. In other words if I start up rhythmbox and the
first song it plays are from a album with 6 songs, I'll have to listen
through 6 songs before it changes again.

[Bug 467682] Re: Cannot login automatically in Ubuntu 9.10

2009-11-01 Thread Neil Perry
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Many Thanks,

[Bug 468217] [NEW] gnome-volume-control can't change from digital to analog output

2009-11-01 Thread hofsmo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

The new gnome-volume-control in Karmic can't change from digital to
analog output, unless I enable IEC958 Output with gnome-alsamixer.
Without manually enabling IEC958 Output changing from analog to IEC958
in gnome-volume-control does nothing. This doubles the work to get
IEC958 Output instead of just enabling it with gnome-volume-control I
also have to enable it with gnome-alsamixer.

[Bug 465964] Re: Nautilus doesn't recognize .MTS file extensions as AVCHD media.

2009-11-01 Thread Neil Wilson
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/364329
has a video stream that demonstrates the mime problem and the lack of
support within Totem via the standard plugin search mechanisms.

It reports lack of support for 'MPEG-2 Video Decoder' within the plugin
search facility.

I suspect that we have a lump of related but separate bugs here. I'd
appreciate direction as to how to split them out.

[Bug 400830] Re: shared folder still shared even if recreated after deletion

2009-11-01 Thread John Baptist
It seems to me that this bug is likely a security problem, as the user
could inadvertently share information that was supposed to be private.
Furthermore, it is clearly unexpected, inconsistent behavior that is
confusing and partially negates the benefit of having a sharing GUI at
all. So, I disagree that this should be labeled Wishlist priority. This
is definitely a bug, possibly a serious one, not a frivolous feature
request.

Please reconsider the assigned priority.

[Bug 416236] Re: [Regression] No do nothing for laptop lid closed action

2009-11-01 Thread Lars Bengtsson
Like Troy I changed the GConf setting, since this is required for 'Do
nothing' since this commit:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2009-July/msg05558.html

with the comment:

/* we only add do nothing in the GUI if the user has explicitly
specified this in GConf */

This means that it is only possible to set 'Do nothing' in GConf not in
the GUI, but it will be shown i GUI.

With command line I did this:

gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-power-
manager/buttons/lid_ac nothing

[Bug 468367] [NEW] Display won't wake up

2009-11-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: couchdb

System: Ubuntu 9.10 clean install
Video chipset info:
product: 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller
vendor: Intel Corporation

Expected results:
Display turns back on via mouse or keyboard input after being turned off by the
power management functionality.

Observed results:
After the system turns the monitor off after 30 minutes of inactivity,
sometimes it won't come back on, neither by mouse nor keyboard input.

The power management values are pretty much the default; I checked the spin
down drives option.
The screensaver is Feedback.

I have to physically power down and then back up to recover.

Please let me know if I can provide further assistance.

Sam

[Bug 468372] [NEW] empathy makes accounts invisible on keyring failure

2009-11-01 Thread David Given
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

If empathy cannot access the keyring to fetch a password, then the
account vanishes from the accounts list until the authorization is
granted.

1. Set your keyring password to be non-empty.
2. Add a number of accounts to empathy.
3. Log out. Log back in. Start empathy.
4. Pick 'deny' each time empathy prompts for the keyring password.
5. empathy will now give you the initial setup dialogue, acting as if there are
no accounts. If you get past this and look at the accounts page, it will indeed
be empty.
6. Quit empathy. Start t up again. The accounts page will still be empty.
7. Log out. Log back in. Start empathy.
8. Give authorization when prompted.
9. The accounts will have returned.

This is particularly awkward as it's tempting to add all your accounts
to empathy again when they are apparently 'deleted'. This'll end up
having multiple copies of each account, and as removing accounts in
empathy is extremely non-obvious (#441409), it's decidedly not a good
user experience.

empathy ought to just mark them disabled if it can't log them in (as
Pidgin does).
