[Bug 618141] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon password dialog provents screensaver to lock the screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring On some configurations, you must enter your password to unlock the gnome-keyring, so a dialog pop ups asking for your password. This dialog prevents the screen to lock, so after some inactivity the computer will still be unlocked. This dialog grabs all the keyboard input, but not all the mouse input, so you can still fiddle around an do bad things. Just after the dialog is closed (cancelled or accepted) the screen is locked. If the dialog also grabbed the mouse input, this would solve the security issue. But if someone is there inputting the password, it's weird to lock the screen after some activity. So, my proposal is simple: just lock the screen, ignoring this dialog. I can't see a reason for this dialog to be blocking the screensaver or whatever. This is causing some security and also usability issues. Ugh. So yeah, these Compiz/Workspace Switcher bugs still obviously exist. 1. Can't use mouse wheel to scroll workspaces in the switcher. 2. [Bug 483957] Re: Gimp freezes with Drop Shadow, crashes system, need power down
The problem of GIMP FREEZING has fully returned in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx. It is very annoying and happens usually during use of FILTERS, especially DROP SHADOW. The point is that it does not happen constantly. One time it happens with the first photograph, the other time only until the fifth photo. Most of the time it causes the computer to freeze completely, not being able to control any window and to shut down (only the hard way) I found out that GIMP causes AT-SPI-REGISTRYD to freeze. I've tried to close down as many applications as possible to see if there is any interference. But it doesn't have any effect. BUT WHAT DOES HELP, IS DISABLING OR NOT TOUCHING THE MOUSE DURING THE USE OF FILTERS ! It looks like that (even very subtle movement) of the mouse during running the filter, causes Gimp to freeze. I hope this will help all of you to run GIMP and to help to rigorously solving this problem. Ps. [Bug 257818] Re: Totem Fails To Deinterlace
If you want to use the latest GStreamer packages on Lucid I recommend the GStreamer developers PPA at https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer- developers/+archive/ppa Getting hold of the new version of Totem for Lucid seems to be trickier, but if you are any good at compiling from source you can get it at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/2.31.6-0ubuntu1 Although I'm not an Ubuntu package maintainer I think the new version of Totem probably falls outside of the criteria for a Stable Release Update (SRU). I don't know enough about coding or compilation to know if it would be possible to cherry-pick the patch from upstream and apply it to Totem in Lucid, but then you would be looking at a potential user interface change (needed in case someone need to turn _off_ deinterlacing to get their file to play correctly) which would probably be outside of the SRU criteria anyway. -- Totem Fails To Deinterlace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Huh? Who says that burning with Brasero is essential - lol... I had enough trouble with it and simply stuck to GnomeBaker. It's doing it's job. At least we can burn without major hiccups... In my case, ever since I upgraded to 10.4, I've had an ocean of issues, from freezing laptop, to crashes into low graphics mode, and printing issues over LAN... It's just that I can't afford to switch back to Windows (although I have a genuine copy) since I do quite a bit of LAMP development. Anyway, none of these are relevant but the bottom line is that after the 2008 releases, Ubuntu seems to be cross-wired. I'll wait the next three months as I'm finishing some work and then consider fixing bugs myself. [Bug 219062] Re: Could not read from resource error when playing encrypted DVD
Yes, that worked for me too, but the documentation and error messages should be much clearer. It's counter-intuitive for sudo apt-get install not to actually install what's necessary. Is that for legal reasons, the way that Audacity doesn't export to MP3 out of the box? Then Totem should say that clearly - The DVD you've just inserted, The Time Traveler's Wife, will not play until you run sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh in a terminal. As it is, the implication is, Oh, do you actually want to play encrypted DVDs? I didn't know. On the other hand, maybe this is a different kind of bug. This is the first commercial DVD I haven't been able to play. [Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
If this isn't fixed (I have no hardware with burning capability anymore so can't test if the original bug actually is fixed or not) Then this is a real goof for Ubuntu. This bug was initially posted while Lucid was still in alpha (Where maverick is now) IMHO this should have received attention before Lucid was released. As it is, it looks as if Maverick will be released with the same problem. In which case I'm going to find it really difficult to be recommending Ubuntu to anyone, when such basic, expected functionality remains unfixed for so long. I hate to sound ungrateful for all the great work done here, and as I don't have the experience or skills to be fixing this myself, I just have to hope that somebody recognises that this has greater than medium importance for most users, and at least gets it assigned and fixed before Maverick release. The issue isn't about being able to burn with alternative software. The default installation (which uses brasero) should work. Seems there's an easy way to diagnose this. Just use the dbus-monitor to see what events are generated on your system when the screensaver activates and note the member name. [Bug 618316] [NEW] Drag and drop (copy and paste) on the same window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus It is common (at least for me) to sometimes select files and dropping them in the same window by mistake. Usually by one of the 3 reasons: * changed my mind about copying them; * when in a hurry, move the mouse to select another file before releasing the mouse button; * when using touchpad, I am forced to drop them because I reached the end of the touchpad but I am still on the same window. This ends in nautilus making a copy of each selected file on the same directory. My guess is that users probably aren't interested in making copies of a file to the same directory. This could be fixed by not copying if, destiny directory is the same as origin and, drag and drop is being used for the copy (just so users can still copy and paste with copy and paste commands and keyboards shortcuts in case that's what they really want). * I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix edition with Nautilus 2.28.1 ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Drag and drop (copy and paste) on the same window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/618316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus
The Wastebasket has no way to sort by deleted date. If it did, then this improvement would be a lot less urgent, IMHO Please read what I wrote. Quoting myself: In fact, current Nautilus git master has trashed-on column in list view, and (irrespective of the view) sorts the trashcan by reversed deletion date by default. So, as it landed in git master, it will be in one of the next releases. -- Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
