[Bug 618139] [NEW] rythom box is blocking when samba share isn't available anymore

Hi, some of my music isn't on my laptop but accessible via a samba share
through the network. But when I am going with my laptop to a different
location, e.g. work, parents home, e.t.c. I just take my laptop with me.
When the new location will give me an IP address that would be in the
same subnet like the server with my music, and the server is not present
I will get asked for the password of the share, again and again. I
cannot control rhythmbox anymore via the mouse, only with gnome-do
and/or multimedia keys.

Hope this was helpful

best regards

[Bug 618141] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon password dialog provents screensaver to lock the screen

2010-08-15 Thread Jorge Suárez de Lis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

On some configurations, you must enter your password to unlock the
gnome-keyring, so a dialog pop ups asking for your password.

This dialog prevents the screen to lock, so after some inactivity the
computer will still be unlocked. This dialog grabs all the keyboard
input, but not all the mouse input, so you can still fiddle around an do
bad things.

Just after the dialog is closed (cancelled or accepted) the screen is
locked. If the dialog also grabbed the mouse input, this would solve the
security issue. But if someone is there inputting the password, it's
weird to lock the screen after some activity.

So, my proposal is simple: just lock the screen, ignoring this dialog. I
can't see a reason for this dialog to be blocking the screensaver or
whatever. This is causing some security and also usability issues.

Ok, after several times resetting, ubuntu comes up with the file system
check and after that it works. Don't think this has anything to do with
it, neither unhooking my usb mouse last time (the other bug). So it
seems to just happen 10-15 times, than magically solve itself.

[Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace

2010-08-15 Thread Jake LeMaster
Ugh. So yeah, these Compiz/Workspace Switcher bugs still obviously
exist.

1. Can't use mouse wheel to scroll workspaces in the switcher.
2. Can't drag from the window list to the workspace switcher to send a window
to another workspace.
3. Can't drag a window from the window switcher and drop it on itself to do the
same thing.

Those are three things I do often in Metacity that I can't do in Compiz.
These issues are literally the only reasons I have Visual Effects set to
None. I don't understand why I can't at least use my mouse wheel to
change workspaces in the switcher when clicking works.

Make sure scanned folders and files are user-readable, and both times you use

though you can patch only 2.26.0... I haven't tested)

[Bug 483957] Re: Gimp freezes with Drop Shadow, crashes system, need power down

2010-08-15 Thread marco123
The problem of GIMP FREEZING has fully returned in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid
Lynx.
It is very annoying and happens usually during use of FILTERS, especially DROP
SHADOW.

The point is that it does not happen constantly.
One time it happens with the first photograph,
the other time only until the fifth photo.

Most of the time it causes the computer to freeze completely,
not being able to control any window and to shut down (only the hard way)

I found out that GIMP causes AT-SPI-REGISTRYD to freeze.

I've tried to close down as many applications as possible to see if there is
any interference.
But it doesn't have any effect.

BUT WHAT DOES HELP, IS DISABLING OR NOT TOUCHING THE MOUSE DURING THE USE OF
FILTERS !
It looks like that (even very subtle movement) of the mouse during running the
filter, causes Gimp to freeze.

I hope this will help all of you to run GIMP and to help to rigorously
solving this problem.

Ps. GIMP runs perfectly in Windows7.

2010-08-15 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Omer,

FeatureFreeze is in effect, and there are very less chances of a newer
version of empathy to come in maverick, as it would need an FFe. Hence,
I am not cancelling this sponsorship request, but allowing some sponsor
to come and check if its acceptable and go ahead.

[Bug 617967] Re: nautilus rename ctrl+c ctrl+v inserts path of file

2010-08-15 Thread stoffel
Hi Alexander,

thanks for response. I made a short desktop recording of file renaming:

1) I F2 to copy the name of the first file
2) as shown in the gedit window it copies the full path, could come in handy
but wasnt expected
3) I go F2 on the file I want to rename
4) I want the copied filename of the first inserted in the file im gonna be
renaming
5) No response, just after a while you see the first file getting copied by
typing in ctrl-v

hope that helps,

thanks,
christoph

No, empathy 2.31.6 is not the stable version. 2.32 will be and for that
no feature freeze exception is required. it will come into Maverick when
its released.

feature freeze exception is for those apps that are not yet updated to
the unstable version. for example Maverick still have evolution 2.30.x
so If the desktop team wants 2.31.6 in Maverick then there will have to
be a feature freeze exception request.

[Bug 618200] [NEW] incorrect order when sorting songs by artist

2010-08-15 Thread jeremy-list
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Only noticed this today, but some of the songs in my music library are
in the wrong order. Everything is sorted correctly as far as U2, then
there's a bunch of songs by Brooke Fraser, one by Ida Corr, then one by
Mason, then one by Freaks. This order is not alphabetical and makes no
sense. I usually prefer to sort songs by artist but that's the only
order that's not working.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-08-15 Thread lavezarez
I have to agree with most who commented here.

CD/DVD burning is an essential piece in the OS. It's pretty embarrassing
to have buggy burners, and puts off a lot of people and justifies a lot
others to go back to Windows.

[Bug 257818] Re: Totem Fails To Deinterlace

2010-08-15 Thread madbiologist
If you want to use the latest GStreamer packages on Lucid I recommend
the GStreamer developers PPA at https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer-
developers/+archive/ppa

Getting hold of the new version of Totem for Lucid seems to be trickier,
but if you are any good at compiling from source you can get it at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/2.31.6-0ubuntu1

Although I'm not an Ubuntu package maintainer I think the new version of
Totem probably falls outside of the criteria for a Stable Release Update
(SRU). I don't know enough about coding or compilation to know if it
would be possible to cherry-pick the patch from upstream and apply it to
Totem in Lucid, but then you would be looking at a potential user
interface change (needed in case someone need to turn _off_
deinterlacing to get their file to play correctly) which would probably
be outside of the SRU criteria anyway.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-08-15 Thread itsols
Huh? Who says that burning with Brasero is essential - lol... I had
enough trouble with it and simply stuck to GnomeBaker. It's doing it's
job.

At least we can burn without major hiccups... In my case, ever since I
upgraded to 10.4, I've had an ocean of issues, from freezing laptop, to
crashes into low graphics mode, and printing issues over LAN...

It's just that I can't afford to switch back to Windows (although I have
a genuine copy) since I do quite a bit of LAMP development. Anyway, none
of these are relevant but the bottom line is that after the 2008
releases, Ubuntu seems to be cross-wired.

I'll wait the next three months as I'm finishing some work and then
consider fixing bugs myself.

In the mean time, I'm hoping for the best.

[Bug 219062] Re: Could not read from resource error when playing encrypted DVD

2010-08-15 Thread mdmcginn
Yes, that worked for me too, but the documentation and error messages
should be much clearer. It's counter-intuitive for sudo apt-get install
not to actually install what's necessary. Is that for legal reasons, the
way that Audacity doesn't export to MP3 out of the box? Then Totem
should say that clearly - The DVD you've just inserted, The Time
Traveler's Wife, will not play until you run sudo
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh in a terminal. As it is, the
implication is, Oh, do you actually want to play encrypted DVDs? I
didn't know.

On the other hand, maybe this is a different kind of bug. This is the
first commercial DVD I haven't been able to play. Has the industry come
up with a new encryption variant that doesn't work out of the box the
way the previous version did?

[Bug 508890] Re: Nautilus crashes when there are multiple XScreens

2010-08-15 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
This bug affects me too on a Sony Vayo VGN-Z:

G98 [GeForce 9300M GS]

Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick)
Gnome Release: 2.31.6 2010-08-05 (Ubuntu)
nvidia-current (from ppa) 256.44-0ubuntu1

After login nautilus tries to start but always crashes.

I have to
  $ killall nautilus
by hand

If that does not work, I run it this way:
$ while true; do killall nautilus; done
for some seconds. That works.

The 'bug-buddy' was not able to trace the crash back.

/var/log/messages reports:
Aug 15 14:13:47 vgn-z21mn nautilus: [N-A] Nautilus-Actions Tracker 2.30.2
initializing...
Aug 15 14:13:47 vgn-z21mn nautilus: [N-A] Nautilus-Actions Menu Extender 2.30.2

was attempted by: gdb (pid 8169)

(here the 'kernel' (third) line reports the failing of bug-buddy)

Then I startet a 'sudo nautilus /' it crashed as well and I became the
attached bugreport.

I hope this helps tracing back the problem. I am not sure if this crash of
'sudo nautilus /' has the same reason as the crash of the
'Nautilus Desktop' after login..

[Bug 618223] [NEW] GDM makes me log in twice after I lock the screen

Public bug reported:

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-08-15 Thread Will
If this isn't fixed (I have no hardware with burning capability anymore
so can't test if the original bug actually is fixed or not) Then this is
a real goof for Ubuntu. This bug was initially posted while Lucid was
still in alpha (Where maverick is now) IMHO this should have received
attention before Lucid was released. As it is, it looks as if Maverick
will be released with the same problem. In which case I'm going to find
it really difficult to be recommending Ubuntu to anyone, when such
basic, expected functionality remains unfixed for so long.

I hate to sound ungrateful for all the great work done here, and as I
don't have the experience or skills to be fixing this myself, I just
have to hope that somebody recognises that this has greater than medium
importance for most users, and at least gets it assigned and fixed
before Maverick release.

The issue isn't about being able to burn with alternative software. The
default installation (which uses brasero) should work. If brasero can't
be made to behave, then it should be dropped for something which can.

Your Xorg.0.log shows that you are using a) Lucid with a non-default
kernel or b) Maverick. Option a goes unsupported, b is ok if if you run
the apport-collect command again. Please go back to Lucid's default
kernel or run the apport-collect command again. In addition, please
attach /var/log/gdm/:0.log and /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log but feel free
to replace any private data with * or something similar. You might need
admin privilegies to access gdm's log folder. I'm asking this because
your xserver shows only 2 errors which doesn't seem to be critical.

[Bug 617740] [NEW] If something changes on a Gnome panel (e.g. window closes or opens), the panel raises above screensaver

2010-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If you have a Gnome panel with e.g. the Window List applet, any changes
that occur will raise the Gnome panel window above a running
screensaver. This is a serious disclosure/privacy issue as depending on
a user's circumstances there may something confidential on the panel
that is raised above the screensaver.

An extremely easy way to test this is to open the Take a Screenshot
window (gnome-screenshot -i), set the delay to 10 seconds, then lock
the screen during that waiting time. When the time is up the Save
Screenshot dialog itself won't appear over the screensaver but the
Gnome panel with the window list will; showing the newly opened window
as a button.

[Bug 617740] Re: If something changes on a Gnome panel (e.g. window closes or opens), the panel raises above screensaver

2010-08-15 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi Delan,
I've asked some other people to replicate it who have Lucid and compiz and it
doesn't happen for them.
However I realize that doesn't help you - I'm going to flip the package to
gnome-screensaver and hopefully the
package maintainers there might have some better idea of how to debug it.

  Thanks for reporting the bug.

2010-08-15 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect 556107, and any other logs that are

Regarding the original problem, I can play the file from comment #1 here

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-08-15 Thread Seung Soo, Ha
The infozip team have recently spoken regarding the current state of
unicode and unzip(most specifically the lack of the -O option)

They are preparing another release(6.1) and there is a thread discussing a
potential fix for this matter[1]
I'm not sure if the libnatspec based patch could be a candidate for their
release, but I lack the proper knowledge to contribute to the discussion there.
@Rolf: If you have not already, could you take a look at the thread?

[Bug 550054] Re: Power Manager Not putting Monitor to Sleep

2010-08-15 Thread nightflow
Seems there's an easy way to diagnose this. Just use the dbus-monitor
to see what events are generated on your system when the screensaver
activates and note the member name. Substitute that into the script and
it should be triggered on the correct event generated on your system.
In 9.04 and older, the event was SessionIdleChanged. Let us know what
event is generated on your system. Thanks.

[Bug 399754] Re: screen saver freezes and a reboot via reset button is required

2010-08-15 Thread David Gagin
This problem might be system related?

system configuration:
Intel custom build, with Intel desktop board, 815 family chipset. 300W pwr
supply
Intel Pentium III processor @ 1.26GHz
512MB RAM PC133
WDC 10.2GB HDD with other drives: 3.5FF FDD Zip250 + 5.25FF DVD/CD-ROM
This is a very common configuration. Suspect that it doesn't have enough RAM?
Ubuntu Version = Hardy Heron with all latest updates. This OS has been
installed for about 2 years.

This system almost never crashes. The same thing cannot be said for another
system with WinXPsp3.
The only times I can make it crash is by going to System/Preferences/Screen
Saver settings. As soon as the dialog opens, the system halts and the only way
out is to press reset. The Screen Saver selected doesn't run. If the screen
saver is started by the system, the screen goes to black and will not respond
to either mouse movement or keyboard and again, reset button must be depressed
to restart. I have learned to not ever leave the keyboard with unfinished work
open.

[Bug 521377] Re: Offline google calendar under evolution

2010-08-15 Thread Dominique Guinard
Same here with 10.04

= successful synchronization with Copy calendar locally for offline
operation selected
=Appointment appears
Unplug network wire.
Close then open Evolution
=Appointment is not here anymore, a click on the google sync calendar does not
do anything, no error message either.
Plug network wire.
=Appointement appear again.

This issue was tagged as low, however I believe it makes evolution
rather useless for people using a google calendar so I would re-tag it.
I had to switch to Thunderbird because of that and I'm sorry about it
because I liked evolution a lot...

[Bug 618316] [NEW] Drag and drop (copy and paste) on the same window

2010-08-15 Thread Carnë Draug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It is common (at least for me) to sometimes select files and dropping them in
the same window by mistake. Usually by one of the 3 reasons:
  * changed my mind about copying them;
  * when in a hurry, move the mouse to select another file before releasing the
mouse button;
  * when using touchpad, I am forced to drop them because I reached the end of
the touchpad but I am still on the same window.

This ends in nautilus making a copy of each selected file on the same
directory.

My guess is that users probably aren't interested in making copies of a
file to the same directory. This could be fixed by not copying if,
destiny directory is the same as origin and, drag and drop is being used
for the copy (just so users can still copy and paste with copy and paste
commands and keyboards shortcuts in case that's what they really want).

*
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix edition with Nautilus 2.28.1

[Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus

2010-08-15 Thread Holger Berndt
The Wastebasket has no way to sort by deleted date.
If it did, then this improvement would be a lot less urgent, IMHO

Please read what I wrote. Quoting myself:
In fact, current Nautilus git master has trashed-on column in list view, and
(irrespective of the view) sorts the trashcan by reversed deletion date by
default.

So, as it landed in git master, it will be in one of the next releases.
