I have this problem on my HP Pavilion DV9812NR running 10.10 with all updates. Percentage shows up in power statistics, but the power indicator context menu always says estimating. I never had an estimated time since I got this laptop over a year ago (Time to full/empty is always 0 seconds). If I remember correctly I did have a percentage in the context menu in Lucid and definitely in Karmic. I tried Brian's fix and after rebooting the context menu is showing percentage again. I believe this may be due to the album icon size. You can see a different in the bubble size between the two attached examples (toobig1.png and toobig2.png). It appears to be album icon related. Just did a step-by-step debugging by backing up and restoring my evolution settings and database and resetting the GConf evolution parameter to default value. Found out that it's a problem with the following GConf entry /apps/evolution/shell/network_config/ignore_hosts=127.0.0.1, localhost It was set like that in previous versions in the evolution settings dialog. New format is a list: /apps/evolution/shell/network_config/ignore_hosts=[127.0.0.1, localhost] If you set the global Ubuntu proxy settings, it won't be needed. This is what happened to me: 1. I was trying to create a big tar.gz file from 2 GB source. 2. Progress bar doesn't show any progress show after a while I canceled it 3. I tried again creating a .zip file from the same source 4. Again, no progress, so I cancel it. 5. After a while my computer starts jamming due to out of memory (which I have 4 GB and normally max 1 GB of it is in use) 6. Then my computer starts shutting down my applications due to out of memory errors 7. I finally manage to locate the cause after logging in to command line and kill file-roller, but some data was already lost due to killed applications. I see that this bug has been soon open for 4 years and that there are several other faults, reported to upstream which are not fixed. Suggestions: - Remove that application from Ubuntu. - Or fix it - Or rewrite it - Or build a system which takes down applications that consume huge loads of memory before bad things start to happen. [Bug 521766] Re: Theme not applied on startup
It comes up for me as well from time to time after a few weeks of a fresh install. Though it seems to start the theme after a couple of seconds, however nautilus remains at the broken theme. The problem seems to be that 'gnome-settings-daemon' crashes, and nautilus starts before it's up again. It can be fixed with 'nautilus -q' once 'gnome-settings-daemon' is running stable. I'll post the crash report as soon as i catch it. But apart from gnome-settings-daemon being crashed, it should force nautilus also to reload. Rhythmbox-metadata still uses 100% cpu when files are changing continuously, but it seems to close down fine in 10.10. Maybe there should be some kind of back-off mechanism? I remember similar bugs filed with the nautilus thumbnailer some time ago.
