[Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-04-15 Thread Martin Pitt
The recent metacity upload closed bug 759646, which seems to be the root
cause for this bug. Can someone who is affected by this please test the
latest version in natty and verify that this fixes it? We'll close the
bug then. Thank you!

[Bug 761449] [NEW] blank space above desktop when using multiple monitors with different vertical heights

2011-04-15 Thread Eshwar Andhavarapu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Hi,
Seems this problem has been there forever and it continues. I have a laptop
1600x900 display coupled to another 1920x1080 desktop display. after setting up
a extended desktop in the monitor settings, i noticed there's a blank space my
mouse can disappear into when pointing around the 1600x900. Attached is a
screenshot that explains it much easily!

Proposed solution is: Make mouse pointer snap to top of the shorter
display when moving back from a taller one, assuming it would otherwise
move into the black zone.

Not sure of the package. Since I am not running nvidia proprietary
drivers or Gallium, its nouveau + metacity i believe. Although since the
problem exists in compiz as well it probably has something to do with X
:( Please correct?

[Bug 743545] Re: Huge memory leak when trying to copy files from dslr through USB.

2011-04-15 Thread JohnnyD'
The problem appears when I try to copy video files, they are all 1gb,
from the camera while connected with the USB cable.

It is probably linked to the camera as the copy fails on every system I have
tried it, including windows XP.
On the other hand copying the photo files works fine on all systems.

If I simply connect the CF card to an external card reader everything
works fine.

[Bug 292585] Re: Evolution Mail Notification has no sound

2011-04-15 Thread owise1
Have the same issue but have just converted my wav to an ogg and it
works OK (although I think that I have tried an ogg earlier.
Unfortunately after reading through the posts I also installed the
gstreamer plug in for canberra so not sure if that was also involved in
the fix.

For new users of Ubuntu I think that using an ogg might be a bit
confusing

[Bug 761478] [NEW] Enhancement: Prompt to check a busy file system on next reboot

2011-04-15 Thread Daniel Ellis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

When selecting Check File System on a file system which is is use, you
currently get an error stating the device is busy.

If a disk was busy, Disk Utility could prompt the user and ask if the
file system should be scheduled for a check on the next reboot.

I have just found out about the special file /forcefsck
(http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-force-fsck-on-the-next-reboot-or-
boot-sequence/) which forces the file system to be checked on the next
reboot, and due to this I think this is a potentially simple
implementation. Disk Utility would just have to prompt and create that
file.

still seeing problems, so I'm going to un-dupe this bug.

[Bug 761527] [NEW] nautilus window title is always Home Folder

2011-04-15 Thread amp3030
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When nautilus is not maximized, independent of which directory is opened
in nautilus, the title of the window displayed at the global unity menu
remains Home Folder, even if I am not in my home directory. I think
this is misleading and it should change to File Browser.

When nautilus is maximized, the title changes to the name of the
directory which is open at the time. For example, if I am in /etc, the
title is etc. I think it's better to be etc - File Browser.

Just compare it with Firefox. Open google.com and look at the title bar;
it's Google - Mozilla Firefox.

[Bug 761542] [NEW] Possible to send Gimp into an infinite loop (100% CPU) with manually entered crop size

2011-04-15 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

To Reproduce:

  1. Open a new document in Gimp
  2. Select the crop tool and draw a crop rectangle within the bounds of the
image
  3. Manually enter a new numerical size in the toolbar/palette

What happens:

Gimp goes into an infinite loop; 100% CPU and no way to interact to
Gimp except with 'killall gimp-2.6'

What should happen:

The Crop rectangle should be changed to the new size, just as it would
when resizing using the pointer itself.

** Affects: gimp (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 726692] Re: Screen backlight adjustment stopped working on MacBook Pro 5, 4 and other hardware

There is a very similar bug here: #743352. However with bug #743352 the
notification bubble appears to work and even
/sys/class/backlight/mbp_backlight/* seems to function, but without
correctly affecting the backlight.

Do sufferers of #726692 have the subtree
/sys/class/backlight/mbp_backlight/* ?

[Bug 761180] Re: Instructions for user name are wrong and wording is misleading

2011-04-15 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Indeed the wording could be improved, but I don't think I'll make
another upstream release of the gnome-system-tools now that they are
deprecated. And since it's been that way in Ubuntu since Lucid, I'm not
sure it's worth patching it for Natty (translations...). But I've opened
a bug[1 ] against gnome-control-center, which replaces users-admin in
GNOME 3 and uses the same string.

About the comma, I don't understand the problem: it's not listed as an
allowed character, so it's expected that you can't use it.

I'm closing the Ubuntu translations task as that's not a translation bug
at all. On the contrary, for example in French, the wording is better
than in English and doesn't suffer from this ambiguity.

2011-04-15 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Did you close it on purpose? As I said on the other report, that's not a
bug: the text is using quotes around characters it lists as being
allowed, and the fact that the sentence contains spaces and commas
doesn't mean they're allowed. People are supposed to know how English
syntax works. ;-)

[Bug 750334] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-04-15 Thread Rodrigo Moya
JeSTeR7: can you easily replicate this problem? If so, could you please
build and test the attached branch to see if it fixes it for you? That
is:

$ bzr get lp:~rodrigo-moya/ubuntu/natty/gnome-settings-daemon/fix-750334
$ sudo apt-get install bzr-builddeb
$ cd fix-750334
$ bzr bd -- -b

this will create the .deb's in ../build-area, so just:

$ sudo dpkg -i ../build-area/*deb

I ask because I can't replicate it at all, no crash here.

David, can you also please try it to see if it fixes your warning?

2011-04-15 Thread Kévin Commaille
I just realized that the previous log contained no information about
when I join a channel so I made an other one and I think I found where
the problem is :

idle/parser-DEBUG: 15/04/2011 10:44:05.155867: _parse_atom: parsing atom

idle/parser-DEBUG: 15/04/2011 10:44:05.156315: idle_nickname_is_valid:

It seems like idle doesn't recognize the % as a status so it says the
list is wrong. %Stats is a bot present on every registered channel on
the server to provide stats on a webpage, that's why the problem is on
every single channel on this server.

[Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it

2011-04-15 Thread Thomas Hood
We shouldn't depend on upstream fixing this by removing
behavior that upstream regards as a feature.

It would be nice if upstream made their feature easier to disable.
But we shouldn't wait for them to do that, either, before fixing
the problem in Ubuntu.

[Bug 209145] Re: Evince couldnot display chinese pdf files

2011-04-15 Thread sgarwang
Hello Yuan,

Could you please try test above file and list your environment if
possible?

It seems re-build libpoppler does not fix this issue.

Using Ubuntu 10.04 with the updated libfreetype (2.4.2), assuming BCI is
enabled, with poppler-date updated too,
build poppler-0.16.4, you can still see this issue even use its demo program
under poppler-/glib/demo/.

Rebuild epdfview and open this file the issue still exists too.

Thanks!

Hello Pedro,

this issue was not systematic. Every boot the behavior changed, it looks
