apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: This is not a question, but I found no thread to report this bug and workaround on NON-NVIDIA-BASED systems: Ubuntu 18.10, kernel 4.18.0-12-generic, GNOME Shell 3.30.1 on X11, after a Dec 9 update: Boot hangs at message, "Starting bpfilter." Gnome Display Manager (login) fails to start. No keyboard response, tapping the power button just once immediately initiates power-down. Other users have reported successfully fixing this by removing nVidia drivers or disabling Wayland in GDM3 (uncommenting WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf.) However, my HP laptop runs Intel graphics, and has no nVidia drivers installed. WORKAROUND I selected Enable Networking in Recovery Mode, then Drop to Shell Prompt (root,) and ran apt update && apt install slim to install SLiM display manager. the installation prompted me to choose SLiM or GDM as the default, I chose SLiM, and was able to login finally (after rebooting 50+ times.) If you already have an alternate display manager installed, you can switch with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm" and select the alt dm. - This will probably be just a provisional workaround for the "bpfilter - hang" on non-nVidia systems if all the other suggested solutions didn't - work for you. [Bug 1808264] Re: caldav free-busy query is broken
I have added a patch which applies both upstream merge requests linked above. I was not above to successfully set up pbuilder, but built and tested it successfully with debuild in a bionic VM. Subscribing ubuntu- sru in accordance with http://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/security-and- stable-release-updates.html as I'm pretty sure the change I'm requesting would be a stable release update. Aiming justify that update: this is a significant regression because somewhere between Xenial and Bionic, this caldav freebusy code was rewritten and broken. Additionally somewhere in that timeframe the behavior changed from using the address book's FBURL to using this caldav-based technique (which, again, doesn't work :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808264 Title: caldav free-busy query is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-server/+bug/1808264/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 1600622] Re: Screen doesn't lock or go to sleep when certain Chrome tabs are open
I have noticed that a) systemctl suspend does actually suspend, but it takes about 30 seconds. I'm on 18.04.1 with kernel 4.18.0-13-generic from the proposed PPA This is quite surprising, but good news. I don't know why this is working now. It works with either Chromium or Chrome open, with hangouts running. Because gnome uses systemctl suspend, this means that manual suspend from gnome shell is also working. I just suspended right now with a hangouts conversation in progress and a Zoom meeting started, and it succeeded. Maybe the more recent kernel fixes it? b) pkexec systemctl -i suspend (run with root privileges) always works, but this is less suprising, since -i means ignore inhibitors. [Bug 1808264] [NEW] caldav free-busy query is broken
Public bug reported: A couple of bugs are present which make CalDAV scheduling effectively useless - the combined effect of them is that everyone else shows as having your availability information, rather than their own. I have patched the bugs upstream, and they have been merged into the branches for both 3.30.4 and 3.31.4: * https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/merge_requests/8 * https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/merge_requests/7 I'm hoping to backport these patches to bionic, which packages 3.28 -- I will submit such a debdiff later today. I am submitting here rather than to Debian as the versions of this package in Debian are out of lockstep with Ubuntu's, so the patch doesn't cleanly transfer -- let me know if this is the wrong approach. Cosmic is on the 3.30 release series, which I assume means the fix will come from upstream and doesn't need to be applied here, but let me know if I should do a patch for that as well. It sounds like this bug is only affecting "Ubuntu on Wayland" and not "Ubuntu". Is that right? The error message: Failed to set CRTC mode 1600x1200: No space left on device comes from mutter's eglnative (Wayland) backend, after calling drmModeSetCrtc. [Bug 1808233] [NEW] Update gtk to 3.24.2
Public bug reported: Impact == There is a new release in the stable 3.24 series. This also bundles the emoji fixes from LP: #1807719 and LP: #1807721 and the Xfce flickering fix from LP: #1798861. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/gtk-3-24/NEWS https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/compare/3.24.1...3.24.2 Test Case = Run several apps in the default Ubuntu install and make sure that there are no visible regressions. We will also be checking Xfce to validate the fix for LP: #1798861. Regression Potential There is a standing microrelease exception for GNOME point releases. I believe this is the second time in recent history that we've pushed a gtk point release as an SRU. The other example was 3.22.25 for Ubuntu 17.10 (LP: #1728421). We never ended up doing one for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS since it already included 3.22.30, the final 3.22 release. It hasn't been practical to update 18.04's gtk to the 3.24 series (bumped dependencies are one problem). https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME By the way, pre-release gtk3 is actually getting a bit more testing than a year ago since more developers and users are using development Flatpak releases of popular GNOME apps. Other Info == One of the bigger changes in the git commit history were theming changes to the GNOME default themes (Adwaita and Adwaita Dark which are bundled inside gtk3. Ubuntu 18.10 uses the Yaru theme as default instead.). But those changes were reverted for this release to make it easier for distros like us to push the update to our stable release. ** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: Triaged ** Tags: cosmic ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808233 Title: Update gtk to 3.24.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1808233/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1808204] [NEW] Glitches related to closing the screen due to inactivity
Public bug reported: I can't replicate this issue. Its appearance seems random. Steps taken: 1. Have the screen close due to inactivity. 2. Open the screen by e.g. moving the mouse. 3. The login screen "banner" appears. This time, however, the application bar (and maybe even the top status and notifications bar) can be seen. 4. Press enter to remove the banner and reveal the desktop environment. 5. The desktop environment is not revealed and there is the characteristic pink reddish background of gnome in place of the banner(1st glitch). 6. Put your PC to sleep through the pause button in the menu in the top status bar. 7. Reopen your PC. 8. Press enter to reveal the desktop environment. 9. The desktop environment is revealed and is functional for the most part. However, the application bar acts really weird. For example, if you put the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen, you can't click the Show apps button (2nd glitch). 10. Press alt-F2, r and then enter to restart Gnome.
