You're right it's probably because of compiz-fusion. Currently I've been using CF compiz 1:0.5.2-0ubuntu4 from deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb gutsy eyecandy repository. Even during writing this email it has also happened and this time also hanged computer. I had to reset my laptop.
