Apparently, this issue was fixed with a batch of updates earlier today
including empathy 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1. I still have some audio and video

You can resolved temporarily the bug commenting the following headings:
gconf system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy
dconf system/proxy/http/enabled
Don't you remember to set the host and port fields.
The terminal commands for setting gconf and dconf are gconf-editor and
dconf-editor.

after a new try; but a curious phenomena; this command killall ...
doesn't kill banshee but the system become very slow , the cpu rate for
banshee is about 70% and i need to kill the process with the monitor to
end the task ; after the system become again normal
