Apparently you didn't know there are two kinds of "username". While you can't change the login name easily after a user has been created, being able to change the display name (as shown on the login screen, for instance) is a reasonable feature. Possibly there is room for clarification in the UI.

I have found a workaround that kind of works ... The problem is with the sane library, so it has to be downgraded. I restored /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane/libsane-genesys.so.1.0.27 from my previous Ubuntu 18.04 installation and linked it instead of the current version, and that's all, it works

I have run the request above, and attach a screenshot of the launcher. The issue occurred in both my desktop and laptop when I upgraded to 21.10 As you can see all active windows are highlighted in the launcher except for nautilus, therefore clicking on Nautilus opens another instance. Cheers
