For further explanation: I need the package libgles1-mesa, because I
want to update the graphics driver on my HP Elitebook 8440p. For this
purpose, I downloaded the "INTEL GRAPHICS UPDATE TOOL FOR LINUX* OS
V2.0.2" from 01.org, which at least requires libgles1-mesa.

It started this week. I was with Writer opened.
Until now I can see two different behaviors.
Sometimes libreoffice crashes and reopen asking to recover my files.
Other times, my computer freezes completely. Sometimes I could restart
with CTRL+ALT+DEL, others I need to hard reset.
I'll continue
About the reference to bug #1706605:
I was experiencing this instability before.
Someone found that it was related to Oracle Java. I removed it and
reinstalled OpenJDK.
With that, it got more reliable.

Probably I have the same problem - see bug # 1709823. Today evening
I'll try to run 'apt-cache rdepends libgles1-mesa' and paste it here.

Exactly, my restore was to a location outside $HOME, however, that
location did not need super privileges for file operations. Deja Dup
could be smarter about that.

I did some more testing and used a USB sound card. If I select output to
that one its still selected when I turn off the monitor.
So it's only when I use the built in sound that it switched to HDMI when
I turn off the monitor.

If I manually stop or stop/start cups.socket & cups.path, then
cups.service is stopping successfully, and I can now proceed with the
cups upgrade on a broken system.
With that being said, this could be a good workaround for Xenial users
blocked by this situation.
systemctl stop cups.socket

As this is a feature and not a bug, it is unlikely to be backported to
Ubuntu 16.04.
But you can do it yourself by adding to /etc/pulse/default.pa:

if you use nemo for Ubuntu (without Cinnamon extensions) and disable
Nautilus to be launched, the problem happens again. You will need to
check if nautilus is not operative and in this case, re-use gnome-
settings daemon
