The Snap package of Firefox 59 has wider scrollbars for me on Ubuntu
17.10. Might be worth checking out if you struggle to interact with the

Very often files many subfolders contain files with the same name as in
the folder you are browsing. Example: Makefiles, .git folders, etc. With
recursive search these files all show up without a clear way to
distinguish them. :(

Ha, interesting, I also use an external monitor. Next time the issue arises

I think this issue could depend on the fact i'm using two monitors on my
laptop.
I tested when i use only the laptop monitor the applet works fine. However when
the second monitor is attached the nm-applet stop working.

Symptoms are the same as #1508146 (but I'm not sure it's the same
cause).
alt+left/right sends me to another tty (terminal shell). Although I'm still
trying to determine if its window manager / keymapper kind of issue or what. I
use ubuntu because I don't typically like to get to this level.
I'm just speculating here, but I wonder if having a VPN configured (even
though it's not enabled in your screenshot) could be a factor?
