[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1813385] [NEW] Pressing Super+1..9 should switch to the last used window of the application
Public bug reported: In my daily work, I save a lot of time[1] by using Super+1...9 to switch to windows. When an application has more than one window (you see 1+ dots next to its icon in the task bar), and the user presses Super+N, Unity would switch to the last used window of the application. This was great, because users typically switch more often between the same two apps, e.g. an IDE and a browser window for web app development, or a browser window and another app for data input etc. GNOME on the other hand, does not switch to the last used among the windows when you press Super+N. It forces you to pick one of the windows, every single time. Screenshot: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/uploads/9f1cd1e982b051147390466b4a6a3621/image.png If you have multiple windows per app (very common with browsers in productivity scenarios), this negates the speed advantage of switching via Super + numbers in the first place. You have to navigate with the arrow keys (the mouse is out of the question if you care about speed), then press Enter. Also, pressing Num Enter doesn't do anything. Can there please be an option to enable simply switching to the last used window of that application? [Original Bug] After an update from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 the dock is aviable on the lockscreen after user login. I did not configure this knowingly. Also i can start every application which is available on the dock. Settings, virtual box, visualstudio code and so on. After the update to 18.04 i just configure the screen frequency to 144Hz and the night mode on. And attach the dock on bottom. I later undid these customizations back to configuration before, but the dock is stil aviable on lockscreen. New message windows do not get 'focussed' when they are opened. Their title bar is grey, and the main Thunderbird window retains the focus. This means that when I press alt-F4 or ctrl-W, my main Thunderbird window is closed, instead of my message window. Very annoying, because it means that I lose my place in the message list, etc etc, and I can only get the main window back again my typing ctrl-1. This happens only in one particlar case, which is when I *already* have a message window open, and the message window is being re-used for the new message. It doesn't happen if I have no message window already on. Serious and easily-fixed usability bug IMHO, probably something in the way that Thunderbird is interacting with the window manager, I would guess. [Expired for file-roller (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: file-roller (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769260 Title: file-roller fails for one usser while tar works Status in file-roller package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: file-roller adds user gja directories fine. However, for user lin it gets well into the adding of files when it fails saying it cannot find a file in "/home/lin/.config/dconf/user.13FBIZ". I suspect this might be a temporary file it is building, Every time I try it the error is the same except the ending after the last dot in the file name changes. This may be a bug or suggest a flaw in the data it is adding. The system operates correctly for all users, even the account that is supposed to be backed up. Also if I look in the specified directory I do not see the file for which it is looking. Directly using tar works fine. Tar must use a pipe to connect to a compressor but does not run into the name problem file-roller does. You may want to consider this a bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1738676] Re: With natural scrolling, horizontal sliders behave backwards
Issues is still present in 18.10. The volume control in the top-bar "speaker" icon is backwards. You have to... - scroll DOWN, to INCREASE the volume - scroll UP, to DECREASE the volume Expected behavior: Enable natural-scrolling and - scroll UP, to INCREASE the volume - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the volume - scroll UP, to INCREASE the screen brightness - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the screen brightness Enable natural-scrolling, hover over a horizontal slider, and... - scroll UP, to move the slider to the RIGHT - scroll DOWN, to move the slider to the LEFT This happens for the OSD volume icon, and for the volume slider in the topbar menu. This also happens for screen brightness controls. This problem occurs for both mouse natural-scrolling and touchpad natural scrolling. Expected fix: When the pointer hovers over the speaker icon in the scroll actions on the speaker icon in the top bar should be reversed. When the user interacts with a horizontal slider, scrolling to the top should always move the slider to the right, and scrolling down should always move the slider to the left, even if natural-scrolling is enabled. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1737750] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers fail to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’]
Dear Seth, thanks for your incredible work. Driver 304 installs perfectly, and everything points its effectively nvidia driver the one is working. But there is still some problems, not related with the driver itself, but with -I dare to guess-, probably simlinks and where Ubuntu is looking for some things. For example, if you open VLC and try to play a video, it tells you is impossible to reach h264 decoder. If you switch back to nouveau, it works (but system is incredibly unstable). Then just reinstall nvidia driver and stop working. I've observed same behaviour using python kivy (in Geany & VsCode), sometimes is impossible to find a Window where show kivy widgets, sometimes not, not very sure about when it works and when not. Probably, your work is done and pretty well done, I'd love to help you with this little details, but unfortunately, I have no deep knowledge about all this. I've researched, believe me, but no luck. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1263444] Re: Nautilus crashed when PDF directory open while printing using cups-pdf
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263444 Title: Nautilus crashed when PDF directory open while printing using cups-pdf Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Steps to recreate: 1. open ~/PDF directory in Nautilus (Files) 2. print to cups-pdf printer Observation: 1. This line is drawn irrespective of which background is chosen. I don't get this line in my yakkety VirtualBox VM, though. * It draws a grey vertical line down the right-hand side of the screen, unless you focus on the background by clicking on it, in which case the line disappears. This happens both on my laptop and also in my yakkety VirtualBox VM. * It is also doubling up icons for files in ~/Desktop (eg in the attached screenshot you can see "kernel bugs" etc are displayed twice). Only one of the two file icons responds to mouse clicks, though. If I kill nautilus the artefacts go away, which is why I assume it's a nautilus issue, along with the fact it only started happening since nautilus 3.20 got installed. Ubuntu should strive for a better solution. Binary and the source packages are called nautilus, and the binary program file is also called nautilus. The name nautilus itself isn't very descriptive, and maybe bad for marketing (what does nautilus Cephalopoda has to do with files???). However, the about dialog should refer to the name of the binary program. It should display something like: Nautilus File Manager 3.14.3 Access and organizer files. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese). You cannot make the OSK appear When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK first from Universal Access in Settings. I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily triggered. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1417470] Re: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing
Chris, the version you posted is two years old. If you are using Linux or Windows there is definitely a newer version. For Mac, there is currently no installer for the latest version because we couldn't find developers for that, but you can try MacPorts. Please test again with https://inkscape.org/de/release/inkscape-0.92.4/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to inkscape in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417470 Title: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing Status in Inkscape: Fix Released Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in inkscape package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: In 0.91 the z-order information in svg is used to create multipage PDF+LaTeX documents as per bug 771957. However, for the SVGs I have been converting to PDF+LaTeX in this way, the TeX-file instructs to load more pages than the PDF has, for example the PDF has only three pages and the TeX file also includes page=4. This basically breaks the PDF+LaTeX export for me and I have to use EPS+LaTeX + epstopdf package. The bug occurs on OpenSuse 13.1 and Windows 8.1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1792085] Re: MTP not working/very slow on Bionic
Hi everyone. The slow access is also observed by me on Xubuntu 18.04. It affects all tools using MTP (Thunar, Shotwell) when opening folders with many files. In all cases the application stops responding and some (like Thunar) eventually crash entirely. Neither disabling nor enabling previews in Thunar has any effect. As reported by the others, it works just fine with Xubuntu 16.04. Also, the output of "dmesg -w" shows no issue. It shows that the device connects fine -- once after hooking it up to USB and the second time after allowing the MTP access on Android. I will try to get the "journalctl" log output on Sunday, when I get access to the affected machine again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792085 Title: MTP not working/very slow on Bionic Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi, unfortunately (for me) MTP android devices no more work on Ubuntu 18.04. I have used MTP on 16.04 without problems, but on 18.04 it does not work. When I connect my Android devices (Samsung A5 and Samsung J3) and I try to list directories with many files (e.g. /DCIM/Camera) the window hangs until I disconnect the device. Same issue if I try to post the command "ls /var/run/1000/gvfs/". I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on two different machines - an older HP laptop and a recent DELL laptop - and the issue is present on the all of them. I suspect a defect on the "libmtp". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1280225] Re: NAUTILUS CRASHES ON sorting
** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280225 Title: NAUTILUS CRASHES ON sorting Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: i launched nautilus i had attached a 16gb usb drive and a mobile broadband attached i was connected to mobile broadband i clicked on download folder i deleted 2 items from folder then clicked on sort by size it was already sorted by size the nautilus turned grey and crashed ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: nautilus 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-8.28-generic 3.13.2 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-8-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu3 Architecture: i386 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Feb 14 16:39:45 2014 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.list-view' b'default-visible-columns' b"['name', 'size', 'type', 'date_modified', 'where']" b'org.gnome.nautilus.list-view' b'default-column-order' b"['name', 'size', 'type', 'date_modified', 'group', 'where', 'mime_type', 'owner', 'permissions']" InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-03-24 (691 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Alpha i386 (20120324) SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-01-30 (15 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1280225/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1321308 Title: Nautlius crashes on "--" as bookmark Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Added a bookmark in "~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks" to "--". Make the flip handler get what it expects also when using EGLStreams by wrapping the flip closure in the container before handing it over to EGL. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790316 apt-cache policy mutter mutter: Installed: 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2 Candidate: 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2 Version table: *** 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2 500 500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic-updates/main arm64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.28.1-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic/main arm64 Packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1805444/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Test Case] 1. Login into an xorg session 1. Open an application with text-entries (e.g. Firefox) 2. Try to enter text in a text entry using the new OSK Expected results: The on-screen keyboard should appear. [Regression Potential] The proposed fix requires a change in the way gnome-settings-daemon decides to enable or disable ibus. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese). [Original Report] I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for entering text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time I cannot, since I cannot manually trigger the new OSK. Steps: 1. Open Firefox 2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK 3. You cannot make the OSK appear When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK first from Universal Access in Settings. I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily triggered.
