[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921071] Re: daap served files sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg
I have the same issue with local files. There is a discontinuity when playing an ogg after having played an mp3. As a workaround, enabling Crossfade between tracks in Rhythmbox Playback preferences seems to solve the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921071 Title: daap served files sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: After upgrading to 12.04, rhythmbox will sometimes stop playing daap files, only to after a few minutes start playing a different file again. Ie, if I connect to a mt-daapd server running lucid with rhythmbox on precise, I can play individual files fine. I have selected to have songs play in random order, and rhythmbox will continue to the next song fine. Occassionally audio will stop in one of the songs and then minutes later it will start up again (with no user interaction) in another song. When it does stop, I can click to fast forward to another song and it works ok. This does not seem to happen with local files (I played them for hours with no interruption), only daap served files. I have tried to correlate this with a problem with networking in precise, but do not see any messages problems in /var/log/syslog that would indicate a problem. Rhythmbox can play a mixture of ogg and mp3 files fine (ie, it is not a codecs issue). There is nothing in .xsession-errors when this occurs. I tried to strace rhythmbox at the time of the problem, but couldn't figure out what was happening. This worked fine in 11.10 and earlier. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 962535] Re: Gwibber in Ubuntu 12.04 will not complete facebook authorisation
Additional info: Gwibber is now showing facebook entries ok. The only change made was to *again* authorise the account [in exactly the same way and with exactlly same details as previous attempts]. This was the fifth authorise attempt since first trying some time ago. Gwibber, this time, showed facebook entries. On starting Gwibber again today - it is still showing new updates. All good news, it is behaving correctly - I wonder if it was a facebook bug rather than a Gwibber bug? My only worry is that on inspecting the accounts in Gwibber, it still shows the option to authorise even though the account has obviously now been authorised. Either way, if nobody else adds to this bug - feel free to change the status of the bug appropriately. Now... if only the option to view entries from one account at a time instead of an enforced *all* view could be returned to Gwibber - you know just like previous Gwibber versions used to let users do :D -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gwibber in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/962535 Title: Gwibber in Ubuntu 12.04 will not complete facebook authorisation Status in “gwibber” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: facebook reports access by the account but Gwibber [eventually] returns to authourise again - never allowing completion. all details entered as per [sucessful] useage in Ubuntiu 10.04 11.10 - problems only in 12.o4 version / implementation of Gwibber. 2 things regarding this... He noticed that the Gnome3 new user dialog does not support the encrypt-home-directory feature that was present in previous versions of Gnome. To solve this, the new user dialog would have a boolean checkbox (defaulted to un-checked), which asks if this new user's home directory should be created. Talk to mpt about the wordsmithing. If checked, then you need to add --encrypt-home to the 'adduser' invocation. Before running adduser, you'd also need to ensure that ecryptfs-utils is installed. For real security, you would also need to run (as root) ecryptfs- setup-swap, which would encrypt the user's swap space. This is necessary, as any files/data that gets swapped out to disk could be written in the clear, thereby circumventing the user's requested encryption. Further note that if swap is encrypted, hibernation should be disabled (suspend continues to work just fine). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 974573] Re: gnome-control-center layout problems w/o overlay-scrollbars
This is exactly the reason why I really start to dislike ubuntu ... it seems like we want you to use overlay-scrollbars, and the Ambiance theme, otherwise you may get a broken desktop. Note that this specific issue is a GNOME one, see i.e https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670268, GNOME forced a specific size so it works only with their theme and the default locale, font. What we do is just to adjust that to the default Ubuntu theme, we don't really create any issue there It's not their decision to stick with Totem 3.0, Evolution 3.2 it's because it's a lts cycle and those were problematic updates, they will get updated next cycle So now I really am about to move to debian testing / Linux Mint Debian Edition, because they deliver a GNOME experience that is closer to as it was meant to be by the GNOME developers, not crippled by unity- specific patches. Good luck, those tweak their theme as well btw, and tend to have at least as many is not up to date issues than Ubuntu, note that Ubuntu has less and less patches to GNOME since the default desktop is Unity and not a patched GNOME Should I write to the ubuntu-desktop mailing list about this, maybe as a starting point for an open discussion about this issue? No real point, what is lacking to maintain a first class citizen GNOME is contributors wanting to maintain GNOME, and extra emails which will to the lack of resources reason will not bring you any closer from that ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #670268 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670268 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974573 Title: gnome-control-center layout problems w/o overlay-scrollbars Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am using precise and up-to-date software packages plus the gnome3-team PPA packages. Nautilus will open in that folder, but you can't do anything in it with the keyboard and has to use the mouse. What should happen instead: 4. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 974938] Re: Process gsettings prevents logging in
This morning I was able to log in without need to kill gsettings -process. I rebooted and tried again, but it got stuck so I needed to kill it that time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974938 Title: Process gsettings prevents logging in Status in “glib2.0” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When I try to login with my newly upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 (development branch), nothing happens. It just shows the same empty background that LightDm has. I have found one solution to get myself logged: If I go to virtual console and display what processes I have, there are about six processes, and one of them is gsettings. It does not consume any CPU resources, and when I kill it (with -3), the login process immediately continues and finally gets me logged in. To my knowledge, gsettings comes from package libglib2.0-bin and I have version 2.32.0-1ubuntu1 of it. How to reproduce: 1 Try to log in. 2 Wait for several minutes to be sure it is stuck 3 Go to virtual console and killall -3 gsettings 4 Logging in immediately continues and finally completes in few seconds Possible causes: 1 I'm using LDAP. My user information comes from LDAP-server, and this has caused lots of other logging problems, thanks to software developers not realizing the fact, that people use stuff like LDAP. 2 I had some problems when upgrading to 12.04, so that might have screwed things up. The funny thing is, that logging in works on my other PC, which has almost identical system and package configuration. So if you give me some hints, I can try to compare differences between them. For example, where there is only one file, there are two other copies still shown; one copy is the way the file/folder/both was previously named, and the other copy is in a non-existent folder way outside of the library, with a peculiar name, /home/dg/(null)/filename (if the null folder exists, I cannot locate it). In the attached screenshot, the file circled in red is the only file actually present. This did not happen to me in previous versions of Rhythmbox, at least, not that I am aware of. I'm not sure it was even occurring during the week or two I had done a dist-upgrade from the ~64 bit~ version of Natty to the Oneiric RC (and thus the GTK+3 version of Rhythmbox) before doing a clean install of the 32 bit version of the Oneiric final release. Unticking and reticking the watch for changes in library option combined with restarting Rhythmbox and rebooting the computer has no effect. Manually right-clicking on a file in the library view in Rhythmbox, and selecting move to trash has no effect other than to place a red error icon on the row of the file in question. Only selecting remove in the right-click context menu actually removes it. * This time around, after the fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10, and installing Rhythmbox, and uninstalling Banshee, the only thing I did before setting my library folder was to manually copy and paste some iradio entries into the ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmbox.db xml database file before it got cluttered with thousands of non-iradio entries (songs). The missing files function in the library UI was briefly working today, as was the import errors function, now no files show up as missing, even though they are actually missing. I don't know what changed to cause the different behavior. * Oddly, this bug seems like it may have cured a separate, longstanding bug I've had with Rhythmbox: usually when I restarted Rhythmbox in the past, a restart took two attempts, the first attempt resulting in a crash and the second attempt actually restarting Rhythmbox. So far this does not seem to be happening, but if it resumes I will note it here. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 974915] Re: Nautilus Context menu missing icons
Well - ok - however one man's design decision can be another man's bug. I agree with the sentitment that there can be too many icons, however to remove all of them, especially with respect to the ability to use Nautilus-Actions to add apps to the Context menu, this is a poor decision. I am an average user and a software developer across all the main OS's and this is poor decision - Firefox, Chrome and Thunderbird seem to be ok with icons on their context menus , icons help break up the menus, making it eaiser for the users to scan for the option they are looking for. A complete 'wall' of text strikes the eye very poorly and does the exact opposite of what the 'design' intended. These types of decision should be applied via dconf settings - not via a blank removal. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 975148] Re: Cannot click on Organize desktop by name
Thank you for your response, It happens all the time, but yesterday when I turned it on the problem wasn't there. However I didn't do any updates, so I think the bug is hidden in somewhere. Specifically, when I right click on desktop and put the cursor between those buttons the menu showed begins to tremble. I think (I don't know the problem) that the button Organize desktop by name reduces its size and then the cursor goes to the next button which reduces its size too and then the cursor returns to the first button, and so on. The trembling is caused by the changes in the size of the menu. Did you understand me? I can try to reproduce it and make some print screens if you want. Thank you. Regards. Abraço. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 975901] Re: guest session is not confined by apparmor
/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper sounds like a recent packaging error. When I wrote the policy the path definitively was /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper. Robert, is that new path intended? It looks a bit exaggerated. ** Also affects: lightdm (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: High Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/975901 Title: guest session is not confined by apparmor Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “lightdm” source package in Precise: New Bug description: When running a guest session, I noticed I could access the home directories of other users on the system. aa-status showed the guest session process was not confined by apparmor. 25 profiles are in enforce mode /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper /etc/apparmor.d/lightdm-guest-session has /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper { However, the actual guest session wrapper script is shipped in /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper.
