Usually this will happen on my desktop if I leave it on for a long time,
I have never seen it on my laptop. I just had it with 14 day uptime and
patched with all updates during that time. From what I think something

appears ghost-like for a few seconds and then disappears.

After doing some more research I found what was causing the VPN DNS resolution
in my specific scenario. Based on some comments in bug #959037, I found that
the bind9 service was installed and run
just tested with firefox. what firefox does is that when you press the
alt key it closes the menu hence releasing the grab. In unity alt is
used for different purposes.
