gnome-flashback, i.e. ibus isn't running and I can type Greek just fine.

Oh, I have now also tested it in a VM, and just removing the 'language-
selector-gnome' will do, no need to remove 'im-config' to get it to work

@Gunnar, After purging 'im-config language-selector-gnome' and doing a
reboot 'Japanese (Anthy)' now shows up and it works as it should!

There is a workaround to this problem
from terminal execute the following:
1. sudo apt-get --reinstall install signon-ui
2. sudo apt-get --reinstall install signon-ui-x11
3. sudo apt-get --reinstall install signon-ui-service
Then restart.
It has worked for me.
