Ah, that's what I thought. It's working as designed then, the psql
encoding defaults to the current locale's encoding; otherwise you could
not actually display non-ASCII characters from DB data.
Please note that Ubuntu does not officially support non-UTF8 locales, so
unless you have a strong
field; with the -proposed package it should have one.

I've noticed that this is *not* happening in Unity or KDE. However, it
*does* occur with both Xfce (known) and LXDE.
That indeed sounds related to 2D vs. 3D, but all of these desktops use a

authenticate (or something like it) also for standard users.

With following process to post-process the crappy 1-pixel stuff
generated by LO, I was able to get a relatively clean PDF (Fonts are not
