Cannot access a Samba file share anymore due to "Failed to retrieve

This is a regression bug as I have no problems with another laptop
running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
Trying to access Samba file share on my Synology Diskstation
(smb://diskstation.local) gives me just "Failed to retrieve file list
from server: Software caused connection abort". See
It seems that this bug was originally about Ubuntu 14.04.
I now tested that on Ubuntu 18.04 this works like it should. The
shutdown can be canceled and in addition there's an info text saying
that the machine will automatically shut down in 60 secs.

After hitting all kinds of keys (the sequence seemed to be very
complicated) we ended up with a black screen with mouse cursor only
slowly responding to mouse movement and lagging behind.

What happens:
I'm using a Logitech M525 mouse and occasionally I'm offered an update
for it (see the attachment). But when I click "Update" I just get a
message "Unable to update "Logitech Unifying Receiver: device ID [hash]
was not found". I have the receiver connected.
I'm not a Ubuntu developer. I just bumped into the disabled calibrate
button and came here via Google. I later realized that it was due to a
calibration device not being connected. I was expecting some manual
calibration instead and incorrectly confirmed this bug.

And yes, I'm able to make the printer work if I configure it manually. I
only recently figured out that one actually CAN configure the printer
manually. It's a bit confusing since

I think that this is an (UI?) issue in system-config-printer, because I
was now able to install the driver like this:
1) Start system-config-printer from terminal (I didn't test otherwise)
2) Select your printer from the list once detected and start installing the
gutenprint driver
3) Hit CTRL-C
system-config-printer seems to open the same configuration dialog with
similar results.
Now the progress bar of Installing driver gutenprint dialog gets stuck
in the halfway. I think that it happened also before. However, before
this phase I saw a system error about system-config-printer.py
