[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921583] Re: Can't run System Monitor in Ubuntu Unity 21.04
@seb128, the crash in my opinion is not related to the theme, but rather the same as reported upstream https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- system-monitor/-/issues/182, coming from the migration to LibHandy, on non-GNOME environments. The issue was fixed upstream with commit https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system- monitor/-/commit/69224a7b27a85e7485fb47f9e9f14ce674798c28 on master and with commit https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system- monitor/-/commit/ba93af5b3e429db5a9c4dd7e2d06b800735a9071 on the gnome-40 stable branch, and will be available with the next stable release. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system-monitor/-/issues #182 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system-monitor/-/issues/182 ** Also affects: libgtop via https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system-monitor/-/issues/182 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** No longer affects: libgtop ** Also affects: gnome-system-monitor via https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-system-monitor/-/issues/182 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1921583 Title: Can't run System Monitor in Ubuntu Unity 21.04 Status in Gnome System Monitor: Unknown Status in gnome-system-monitor package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I can't run System Monitor in Ubuntu Unity 21.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1778361] Re: The Processes tab only displays the current user's processes
That's weird indeed. It's hard to believe that it's an UI issue, as I haven't seen that and don't see that on Fedora. Could it be related to dconf setting not being stored and the filters being reloaded a second later from dconf? I did see some other reports of settings not being saved, which would support this conspiracy theory. Unfortunately I don't have an Ubuntu devel machine, will try to set up a VM and investigate there, unless anyone has a better idea and can give me some pointers on how to reproduce. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778361 Title: The Processes tab only displays the current user's processes Status in gnome-system-monitor package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: *** *** Please attribute this bug to the correct package. *** ubuntu-bug -w failed. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054591 Title: device by-uuid Status in gnome-system-monitor package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: as could redisplay the root partition thus "/ dev / sdx" and not "/ dev / disk / by-uuid / xxx" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1054591/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 810498 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810498 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 810498, so it is being marked as such. If a CPU is marked offline, the system monitor does not report any higher-numbered online CPUs. E.g.,: a. Run system monitor - it reports 8 CPUs. b. Mark CPU 3 offline, via: echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/online c. Restart system monitor: It now reports only 3 CPUS (1,2,3). The system monitor display not change immediately, so I suspect the immediate failure is caused at system monitor initialization, presumably because it assumes that the first offline CPU indicates the end of CPUs for this system. Which is not true, of course. 2. In the system monitor display, CPUs are numbered 1...N, for an N-CPU system. This is incorrect, because CPUs are numbered from 0, not 1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1325776] Re: add --version argument
This has been fixed upstream, in System Monitor 3.10.0, released in 2013, but the fix didn't make it into Trusty, being an LTS release, and the System Monitor 3.10 release having some UI changes (including a headerbar) which have been rejected for inclusion to have a stable application set in the LTS. It's not clear yet whether Ubuntu will accept apps with headerbar for Utopic. Based on an IRC discussion, developers are working on better experience and integration between headerbars and Unity, so it might happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325776 Title: add --version argument Status in The GNOME System Monitor: Unknown Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Make the applicaiton recognize when it is invoked with with --version argument and make it print it's version to stdout and exit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1325776/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes, that's an issue fixed upstream, however Ubuntu still uses an older version, and probably won't get upgraded to the current stable release in the next cycle either, so unless someone's willing to backport the patch, this won't change. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093582] Re: gnome-system-monitor display without grid
@Sebastian: Yes, System Monitor has been updated along with the other applications to fit in the GNOME ecosystem with headerbars, which is a 3.10 feature, and requires gtk 3.10. I have been looking at what could be easily backported, but system monitor has undergone some refactorings this cycle too, so changes are not too easily backported. I will take some more time and to pick the best bugfixes and the ones which also appear in launchpad and can be ported easily, and come up with a system monitor ubuntu package update featuring those ones. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093582 Title: gnome-system-monitor display without grid Status in The GNOME System Monitor: Fix Released Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: gnome-system-monitor display without grid lines after refreshing or starting the application (cf. attached screenshot) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: gnome-system-monitor 3.6.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-21.32-generic 3.5.7.1 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-21-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu9 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Dec 25 09:26:55 2012 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-05-16 (222 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120425) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: gnome-system-monitor UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-10-20 (65 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1093582/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093582] Re: gnome-system-monitor display without grid
@Sebastian: I have checked from the system monitor git repo log what would be worth porting, and there's not much worth porting, basically the fix for this bug and another one for a wording change in bug #1156238. The other ones, some performance improvements and memory leak fixes are also interesting, but as these happened after serious refactorings, they can not be easily ported. With the ones I have mentioned I have created a branch with new patches for it in /debian/patches, unfortunately bzr builddeb fails with some strange error, looks like it wants to revert the fix for the graph grid rendering issue based on the upstream 3.8.2.1. I would appreciate if you could take a look into that branch, based on ubuntu:gnome-system-monitor, see it at lp:~evfool/gnome-system-monitor/stableupdates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093582 Title: gnome-system-monitor display without grid Status in The GNOME System Monitor: Fix Released Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: gnome-system-monitor display without grid lines after refreshing or starting the application (cf. attached screenshot) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: gnome-system-monitor 3.6.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-21.32-generic 3.5.7.1 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-21-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu9 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Dec 25 09:26:55 2012 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-05-16 (222 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120425) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: gnome-system-monitor UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-10-20 (65 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1093582/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Which version of gnome-system-monitor are you running? You can check it in the menu by clicking Help-About. The 3.8 version has an option in Edit-Preferences-Resources tab to draw a stacked area chart. Toggling that option maybe shows what you would like to see, with a twist: all core usages are shown on one graph, but summed up as a stacked area chart, so that you can see how each core contributes to the total usage, but you can also see the total usage. See the attached image from my System Monitor 3.8 (available in the stable 13.04 and the development 13.10 version) Would that help you, or you would like to see something else? ** Attachment added: Stacked area chart in Gnome System Monitor 3.8 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1201229/+attachment/3737225/+files/stacked.png ** Changed in: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Robert Roth (evfool) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1201229 Title: Should be a choice for one graph on multicore CPUs Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: It is more than a feature missing than a bug. Thanks for the heads-up, I did not know that text is used for stop an continue processes too, even if looking at it seems absolutely logic.
