[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1161344] Re: Nautilus crashes when opening several folders in own windows

2013-03-28 Thread sampo555
Confirming on Quantal. Doesn't affect Raring anymore as this option is
no longer part of nautilus there.

Seems that there's something weird going on in
nautilus_window_slot_open_location_full (nautilus-window-manage-
views.c). The method is given NAUTILUS_WINDOW_OPEN_FLAG_NEW_TAB flag and
is able to determine that it needs to open it in new window BUT then
tries to open the window as tab.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1159409] Re: Rename... menu option falsely greyed out (still works though)

2013-03-25 Thread sampo555
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu = nautilus (Ubuntu)

Not that this caused me any problems, I figure a less obstinate person

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1098419] Re: Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global menu enabled

Title:
Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global
  menu enabled

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Currently, it is possible to right click on the name bar of a windows to get
the drop-down menu allowing the following actions:
  - Minimise
  - Maximise
  - Move
  - Resize
  - Always on top
  - Always on visible workspace
  - Only on this workspace
  - Move to workspace x
  - Move to workspace y
  - Move to another workspace ...
  - Close

However, when a window is maximised and the top bar is merged with the
panel, allowing the global menu, there is no way to access this menu,
except going back to windowed mode, thus adding an extra step to
execute an action like moving the window to another workspace.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

The top panel's empty space should be right-clickable in order to be
able to access those options as easily as in windowed mode.

Another option, not as good as the first one, would be to add another
drop-down menu in the global menu, that would appear only when the
window is maximised. The advantage would be the ability to use those
actions with the HUD; however, adding a Window drop-down menu would
interfere with apps that already have one, like LibreOffice Writer for
  example.

2012-12-23 Thread sampo555
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in network-manager-applet.

Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1093294

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I've installed an app which was in “What's new” category. Later on, after
restarting USC, I noticed the app I installed disappeared from “What's new”
list. I was confused because I wanted to review the app. Well, I thought,
probably there was a problem with the app and it was removed from USC. Tough
luck.
After few days I've installed another app from “What's new” list and again
noticed the app is no longer there after restarting USC. This time I thought it
can't be some coincidence. I've tested a little more and it looks like a bug in
USC.

The problem also affects apps listed in “Best rated” and “Recommended”
  categories.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1087862] Re: My sound stutters no matter how I configure /etc/pulse/daemon.conf

2012-12-08 Thread sampo555
Thank you for taking your time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. This is a known problem between some ALSA drivers and newer
pulseaudio versions.

Luckily there's a workaround known to fix the issues in some cases:
1. Open file /etc/pulse/default.pa
2. Replace line 'load-module module-udev-detect' with 'load-module
module-udev-detect tsched=0'
3. Restart pulseaudio by running 'pulseaudio -k pulseaudio --start' in
terminal.

Please test if that helps you with the issues.

The logs indicate that jtex.ini can't be found. It may be missing or
just somehow corrupted.

One thing you could try is to reinstall the package jtex-base which provides
jtex.ini. To do that, run following commands in terminal:
  sudo apt-get install --reinstall jtex-base
  sudo dpkg --configure texlive-binaries

If that doesn't help, then I'm out of ideas...

Bug description:
When I click the power button on my laptop, the
suspend/reboot/shutdown menu shows up. Selecting suspend does
  nothing. The other buttons work.

Suspend works if you activate it by closing the lid or by selecting
suspend from the top right corner menu.

SRU TEST CASE: See description above; pressing the suspend button in
the dialog that pops up after pressing the power button should
  actually suspend the machine.

  SRU PATCH: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
session/commit/?id=e7cbff3fb381c , landed in raring and upstream
  yesterday.

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: None of the upower methods (that is, suspend and
hibernation) worked in gnome-session before as the client object has
never been initialized. Now it does, which should not only fix the
power button, but also automatic suspend on configured timeout. The
latter might be a surprise for some users which have configured
suspend after some idle time; but then again, that is an actual bug
  fix as well.

Bug description:
On Laptop system there are two ways to change monitor brightness.

The first is with the gnome control center - adjusting the brightness

The second way is to use keybord shortcuts for the monitor brightness.
  - In this case unity shows a wiget on the desktop with a bar for
  brightness.

Unfortunally the bar status of both ways are not synchronized.

For illustrating please look at the attached screenshot.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Raring on a laptop system
2.Use the system center option to adjust the monitor brightness.
3.Use (if available) keybord shortcuts to adjust the monitor brightness.
4.See that both brighness bar differ.

  Additional:

On the system I use brightness is not really adjustable(kernelbug),
but anyway the both bars should not differ in anyway.

I read the similar (fixed) bug #893851 and I saw the attached patch
that updated the DBus interface. Now it seems the signal is not
reaching the UI for some other reason. If I run dbus-monitor
type=signal and set the brightness up and down with the keyboard, the
  following output shows:

  signal sender=:1.9 - dest=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon serial=289
path=/org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Power;

  signal sender=:1.9 - dest=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon serial=295

This seems to imply the signals are issued but they don't reach the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070885] Re: fglrx doesn't work, my video card is radeon HD4850

2012-10-24 Thread sampo555
AMD recently dropped the support for all pre-evergreen hardware (older
than Radeon HD5000) from their Catalyst driver and the last version
which supports this hardware is 12.6[1]. However, fglrx 12.6 doesn't
support the X in Quantal.

As AMD has stated that the legacy Linux driver will only receive
critical updates it won't get support for the X used in Quantal. There's
nothing we can do to get fglrx working for older hardware in Quantal -
it's completely up to AMD whether they add support for newer X versions
or not.

Meanwhile you can keep using the open source drivers or move back to
Precise if fglrx is required.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1051152] Re: Firefox 16 beta crash in nsIContent::SetAttr

2012-09-16 Thread sampo555
Now that you mentioned it, the HUD loading menus at startup is quite a
weird one too. It only happens if you had searched something with HUD
and activated a result or performed a search and closed HUD by clicking
outside HUD area.

If you use Escape to close the HUD, the menus will only be loaded once
HUD actually needs them. It seems that somehow HUD thinks it needs to
know what the menus have ASAP (it's probably left on some kind of a
search mode)

But I'll open a bug against Unity for that one...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1051152] Re: Firefox 16 beta crash in nsIContent::SetAttr

2012-09-16 Thread sampo555
Alright, it didn't take that long the get it crashing again. After
looking into the traffic of the DBusmenu of Firefox, it seems obvious
that hud-service is causing these crashes.

When Firefox is launched HUD starts to map the menus. HUD iterates
trough the menu structure and sends 'opened' events to all the sub-menus
in need of mapping.

When the focus is changed to another window, HUD wants to close the
opened menus. So it sends 'closed' event to all the menus and Firefox
responds to that request. But here's the problem: it's closing more
menus it opened. For me, it sent 'opened' event to 40 objects but sends
'closed' event to 46 objects. And Firefox crashes.

Disabling add-ons one by one I concluded that it's Greasemonkey causing
the crashes (which is also in the list of extensions of the original
reporter). Greasemonkey adds its own sub-menu to Tools which happen to
have exactly 6 menu items: the same number of objects as the extra ones
HUD tries to close. So my guess is that HUD considers those items normal
menus and tries to close them (why this happens, I have no idea).

Here's steps to reproduce the crash:
#1: Have Greasemonkey installed and enabled
#2: Open Firefox and wait for the window to appear
#3: Invoke HUD with ALT and perform a search (might not be needed if
hud-service was already running)
#4: Give focus to another application
#5: Firefox crashes

The reason the crash didn't happen all the time was that I hadn't used
HUD after booting my computer. So the hud-service wouldn't try to close
any menus and the crash would not happen.

It's funny how the crashing stops when I really need it to crash. Well,

Bug description:
Media keys do not function if an indicator menu is open. I noticed
this when I had the sound indicator menu open and I tried to use a
media key on my keyboard to adjust the volume.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a keyboard with media keys such as sound up/down/mute, press one of the
media keys and observe that it works as expected
  2) Click the sound indicator to open the sound indicator menu
  3) Press the media key from step one

  Expected results:
The media key performs its normal function and the corresponding OSD is
displayed

  Actual results:
Nothing happens (sound does not get louder/softer, for example) and no OSD is
displayed

This seems to affect all media keys regardless of their function, and
any indicator menu can trigger the behavior.

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 64Bit
  Gedit 3.4.1

  Here's what happend.
  1. Launch gedit.
  2. Create new file type. I am writing PHP file when I noticed it. So I
created a PHP file.
  3. Put some codes/strings in there. Be sure your last line is a text.
  4. Use Remove trailing spaces feature of gedit.
  5. Observe, the last line will be trimmed.

I expect, only trailing spaces will be removed.
I found out that the last line was also remove.
I also use other programming languages and still removes the string.
Attached is the sample string I made.
Open it with gedit 3.4.1 and remove trailing spaces.
The comment should not be removed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923940] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS set max lcd brightness on every boot

2012-06-01 Thread sampo555
I'm no expert but a working command you can use to change the display
brightness temporarily as a normal user is:
echo somevalue | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

For example if you want to set the brightness to 2, run following:
echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

If the command is run as root (like it's done if added to rc.local), you can
just use the echo x ... command. If this doesn't work during startup, it's
very likely that the case is what Steve Langasek describes in another bug
report:
And even if you get it to work at the commandline, this setting may be
getting overridden by the desktop after rc.local runs.

Title:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS set max lcd brightness on every boot

  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I'm on:
  Linux 3.2.0-12-generic-pae #20-Ubuntu SMP Sat Jan 28 01:10:59 UTC 2012 i686

I solve the issue editing the file
  /etc/rc.local
adding this line echo 4 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
(without quotes)
(i use 4 because is value in the middle, in fact 0 is the lower and 8 is the
higher)

Probably there are a better ways to solve this issue (i hope...)
