Hi,

I would also prefer Barcelona or Brussels, depending on the target month.
In Brussels, I also have a bunch of contacts, and we can work with
Eclipse foundation here.

Hi Rich

That's a fair comment.
We can also take the example of Livy that we were able to "restart"
thanks to new contributors.
Call For Action can also work (as we did for a few projects),
especially when the project is in use.

Re: Community building advice

2023-10-31 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi Rich

Thanks for sharing. It's a great initiative.
I'm sharing your concerns. As discussed yesterday, I think it's
important for the mentors to educate/emphasize on committer/PPMC
meaning and what should be the "bar".
As we know some projects have committership bar pretty high (I don't
like this, personally I would rather recommend the committer ship bar
should be fairly low, whereas the PMC membership bar should be fairly
high), to avoid frustration and keep motivation high, I would suggest
to these projects to send thank/encouragement message to the
contributors. It's a pity we are potentially losing contributors just
because we are not able to say thank and encourage them. Some projects
(like Apache Beam) send this kind of encouragement message, and I like
this.

Starting ACEU24 preparation

2022-12-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi guys,

With some European Apache foxes, we had a couple of meetings to
propose a plan about ApacheCon Europe 24 (ACEU24).

We discussed the format, and we think ACEU in February 2024, in
Brussels, the week before or after FOSDEM.
We think it's a good option because:
- February is pretty quiet in terms of conferences
- Brussels is pretty easy to reach from everywhere (especially in Europe)
- Brussels is not so expensive in February
- Before or after FOSDEM will "feed" us with developers

The format would be 2 or 3 days depending on the organization team we
will have (to handle different tracks/talks, etc).

We now have to "recruit" a team, including a couple of relays in Brussels, to:
1. List possible venues with budget (the budget should include venue
with exhibition space, food, and eventually one offsite event
for committers, why not beer tasting on Grand Place ;))
2. Find sponsors
3. Prepare CFP/tracks

We have #aceu24 channel on The-ASF slack and I would like to create a
mailing list to start the concrete preparation.

If you want to help, please let us know and join the #aceu24 !

Thanks !

JB

Re: European Commission Workshop day on Open-Source Sustainability

2022-10-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi Jarek,

1.1 - Agree, my proposal is more attending
2.1 - it's interesting. As Karaf is also cloud runtime, I think we
have some fuel here. I can talk to Funs from Cloudstack. I think it
would be great to have both the stack standpoint, and the
runtime/application standpoint as well.
3.4 - OK I leave it to you then

Re: European Commission Workshop day on Open-Source Sustainability

2022-10-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
By the way, I'm pretty interested to participate on these workshops:

1.1 - Open Source Processors for the Cloud Continuum
2.1 - Open Source Software and Cloud Services and Applications: On the
way to more interoperable cloud services
3.4 - Exploring practical solutions to ensure long term sustainability
of open source software

I chatted today with some Eclipse Foundation guys: they plan to be
there as well.

Thoughts ?

The ASF at OpenSource Experience Paris, France

2022-09-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi guys,

The next OpenSource Experience event will stand November 8 & 9 this year:

https://www.opensource-experience.com/en/

It's a fairly large event about Open Source in Europe, located in Paris, France.
The exhibition has an area reserved for open source projects and foundations.

I took the lead to request a booth for The ASF. It has been accepted.
It means we will have a booth dedicated to The ASF.

FIrst of all, if you are in Paris on November 8 or 9, and you want to
help at The ASF booth, please let me know (I will be at the booth most
of the time, but I will have to spend time at my company booth too).

In order to "populate" the booth, do we have process to get some
gadgets/swags (stickers, ...) ? Who can help on this front ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Regards
JB

The ASF booth at OpenSource Experience Paris

2022-09-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi guys,

November 8 & 9 will be OpenSource Experience Paris
(https://www.opensource-experience.com/en/).

I took the opportunity/lead to request a booth for The ASF, that has
been accepted.

I will be on the booth (of course), splitting my time between The ASF
booth and my company booth.
I would need help for:
- if you are around and have some time to be on the booth, it would be great
- I would need some material/gadgets for the booth (stickers, ...). Do
we have a process for shipping/printing/getting material ?

PS: I'm interested in joining the comdev group. What's the process to join ?

Thanks !

Re: Collocating 2019 EU roadshow or/and TomcatCon with .JBCNConf 2019

2018-07-05 Thread Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Hi Jonathan,

To have participate a couple of time, JBCNConf is a great event and
large enough to host the EU Roadshow.

I think it's a fair proposal and it makes sense that the EU roadshow
"jumps" on different event (just to cover a large geographical area).

My $0.01
