RE: 8.5 release

2020-03-23 Thread Uwe Schindler
Hi,

the Javadocs are not in the repository with that magic file, they are in the
“production” tree (only the website). The Javadocs are still at the same
position:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/infra/websites/production/lucene/content

All instructions regarding extpaths.txt is obsolete, the new website is in git
and there you only have to change one line in the config file to point to
latest version:

See https://github.com/apache/lucene-site for instructions. I am available for
chat on Slack.

Hi all,

Just to say that the release is still happening, it’s just taking a bit longer
than usual to get things sorted due to some external circumstances…

The release is now on the apache mirrors and maven central (we need to update
the poll_mirrors script to correctly handle https, as lots of the mirrors no
longer accept http). I’m trying to update the website with the new java docs,
but it looks as though this has all been changed since the last release, and
the instructions on our release website no longer apply. In particular, the
svn repository where the java docs used to sit now has a single empty file
called MOVED_TO_GIT - if anybody knows more about this, please chime in!

I’ll look to add the release instructions soon. There is a page in the Ref
Guide that describes how to do it (it’s basically the same as javadocs, just a
different ant/gradle target).

I also created a new top-level page in Solr’s Confluence for Release Notes:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SOLR/Release+Notes. I only moved
8.x and a couple 7.x notes there for now (it’s a bit tedious to move them, but
anyone would be welcome to keep going) so we can use that spot to put them from
now on. I didn’t check, though, if Lucene’s Confluence has the same problem of
notes being buried? Sorry to half-complete the task, I was looking for Solr's
notes and got annoyed I can never find them quickly.

We should definitely make a top-level page for these, they currently sit under
‘Old Wiki’ which doesn’t seem right at all.

We should probably make a top-level page «Release Notes» under which we can
attach future release notes.

Re: 8.5 release

2020-03-16 Thread Alan Woodward
Let’s keep both pages as Draft for now - one advantage of Cwiki over moin is
that we can delay publishing our release notes until the release has actually
happened.

Ok - in the meantime I added it to branch_8x / 8.6.0, so if there’s an RC2 I’ll
move the CHANGES entry accordingly.

2020-03-13 Thread Alan Woodward
That’s the one, thank you Jan! I’ve cloned it and made minimal changes to
update it to 8.5, it still needs the release highlights adding in though.
Draft page is available here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/resumedraft.action?draftId=148641910=8a43c9fb-6845-413a-b6cd-876a6647bb32=shareui=1584107316180

We should definitely make a top-level page for these, they currently sit under
‘Old Wiki’ which doesn’t seem right at all.

Re: 8.5 release

2020-03-13 Thread Jan Høydahl
Perhaps this is the one you are looking for?
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SOLR/ReleaseNote84

We should probably make a top-level page «Release Notes» under which we can
attach future release notes.

Re: 8.5 release

2020-03-12 Thread Andrzej Białecki
Hi Alan,

Is there still time to merge a fix for SOLR-13264? It’s a bug that makes it
impossible to customise this trigger, you can only config a trigger with its
default operations.

RE: 8.5 release

What is the estimated ETA for 8.5 download?

Subject: Re: 8.5 release

While I wait for the smoke tester to finish, I’ve been working on release
notes. The ReleaseTodo still refers to the old wiki, and release notes are on
CWiki now, so I’m flying slightly blind. Looking at what was done for the
previous release, I’ve created a draft note for lucene which can be inspected
and edited here:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/resumedraft.action?draftId=148641343=d4d3acb9-0dd6-4d40-903c-b16f2bb68415=shareui=1584025014586<https://secure-web.cisco.com/1pWCDdvtH5M8d0JhoRCJWwcsLjJUjNS0dfNNMNpxmBMcJNGvnWDzxbRetDgSw11xdaPv4QwgeVDQ718ktE6AJU-IHDU64SpKh3_hZzlubnnpWjM3GvvK2fpqi2QfHDEnEQpjQjMXu1yI3a3ngRWGzW-k5dbNjSzoeqy3Mf-5xyu2Gs6DVHj6AwMXgK3vpRaMit8NR3pChBIaEElOxIgOnmcmXTD0z3XqfG3H1x1FZGQaTEVgu4EFPtTqodo81F6r5HO9UxGilx0cYwOQyKbjMEQ/https%3A%2F%2Fcwiki.apache.org%2Fconfluence%2Fpages%2Fresumedraft.action%3FdraftId%3D148641343%26draftShareId%3Dd4d3acb9-0dd6-4d40-903c-b16f2bb68415%26src%3Dshareui%26src.shareui.timestamp%3D1584025014586>

For Solr, the 8.4 release note on CWiki points to a section on
https://lucene.apache.org/solr/news.html<https://secure-web.cisco.com/1Gt28W1X4Z-ZUf6OvJEFk8S1-cXBrmnKAeNBhDJqvAvQNKED05Csr6kPlgi80vAAnzt5f-6nrTP2g3LfDF8tmQgFm5x5oVXL8BLSJ3xTchaOaBLwKsykCqchXs4cFoIb-EOR6uX0_PkQSxgNrrAe6oFCZPHiPAT1ERhOVsCP8axmWibQ8b6oepo93jt_fkmoij5Hbl9a1r1irSW6dcRyi6tR12NmRIgXNIouNgKghEsu4T4CqksxCXSo3c6duRvGkscSdo0R3B6eBLz37Ouog5g/https%3A%2F%2Flucene.apache.org%2Fsolr%2Fnews.html>
but it’s not entirely clear where this section has come from or where it
should be drafted. Can anybody enlighten me?

Re: 8.5 release

2020-03-09 Thread Alan Woodward
It looks like Robert added the relevant 8.6 section to master in 4360fa750644
(thanks Robert!) - I’ve been using the release wizard for this process so far
and either missed a step about pushing this to master or it isn’t in there yet;
I’ll check and make changes to the wizard if necessary.

Re: 8.5 release

2020-03-08 Thread Joel Bernstein
If possible I'd like to backport
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14073 for the 8.5 release. The
work is already committed just waiting on the go ahead for the backport and
I'll update CHANGES,txt and close out the ticket.

I'm a little confused where folks should put stuff in CHANGES.txt right
now if it's *NOT* something ready to backport all the way to branch_8_5.

specifically: branch_8x now has an 8.6 section in CHANGES.txt, but master

8.5 release

2020-02-18 Thread Alan Woodward
Hi all,

It’s been a while since we released lucene-solr 8.4, and we’ve accumulated
quite a few nice new features since then. I’d like to volunteer to be a
release manager for an 8.5 release. If there's agreement, then I plan to cut
the release branch two weeks today, on Tuesday 3rd March.
