Used:

Let's hope that's the one :)

another fail :(

See the reply:

---
Sorry, but the source link is not a valid download page.

The page athttps://openoffice.apache.org/downloads.html is more like it,
but the artifact links on the page must use the mirror system.
For example:

https://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/openoffice/4.1.11/source/apache-openoffice-4.1.11-bdb20b2a64-src.tar.bz2

This needs to be done for all the current artifacts on the page.
[The archived ones are fine as they are.]

Carl

We probable should IMHO.

Hi Dave,

I asked Infra to distribute our source packages via ASF mirrors, but
that ticket was closed today:

Our download page is wrong. See
https://infra.apache.org/release-download-pages.html#download-page

we use already a ASF server. But it has to be also the download system.

I had the same problem with the AOO 4.1.10 release.

However, it's not a big loss when the mail is not accepted. So, don't
waste any time for this.

Release announce to Apache moderated due to source link

Hi All,

My Apache announce email got kicked back due to the link to the source
not using the mirror system.

"Source releases MUST use the ASF mirror system."

I used:

So I guess I need to use:

I'll send a new one in a while.

I don't know how to edit this. I don't find any hint for it - even as
admin. Must be a thing of SF.net.

Re: Fwd: [ANNOUNCE] Apache OpenOffice 4.1.9 released

2021-02-13 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

I am happy to announce that I was notified today about the availability of a
new AOO version!

Congratulations to all for the previous effort to fix notifications in 4.1.8!

One question: does someone have the permissions to update the Sourceforge page?

It is a little absurd that on the main page for OpenOffice
https://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/
it reports Project Activity
when the latest files have been uploaded on 2021-02-02

I know the other side would be to delay the release. But I've decided

What problems should have been detected?

[ANNOUNCE] Release of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.9 RC1

2021-01-10 Thread Jim Jagielski
The Apache OpenOffice PMC is happy to announce the immediate availability
for testing and review of the 1st Release Candidate for Apache OpenOffice
4.1.9.

Pre-built community convenience binaries can be found at:

   https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/4.1.9-RC1/binaries/

With source tarballs available at:

   https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/4.1.9-RC1/source/

As noted, this is NOT the Official AOO 4.1.9 release, but these are
the artifacts that will be proposed and voted on as AOO 4.1.9 GA
upon successful testing.

NOTE: The macOS images are not App Store signed; they will be signed if/when
 approved as GA.

We encourage the AOO community to download and test AOO 4.1.9-RC1 and
provide feedback to the project. Upon successful testing and feedback,
a vote will be held to release as GA.

I do not want to continue this kind of discussion, because it does more harm
than good.

I can only tell you, with a pure heart, that I would have expected only
approval for my criticism, because I thought the use of "upgrade" was an
mistake, but it seems that even on the question of update vs. upgrade there are
completely contrary opinions.

I think it is absolutely obvious that version 4.1.8 is an

update (and not an upgrade).

I don't understand why this is wrongly labeled in the

announcement as well as in the release notes.

a new release within the 4.1.x release branch cannot be big by
definition of the version schema. So, so using the word
"upgrade" is not
wrong. This is my opinion.

And to be honest, I don't see a problem here. The difference
of meaning
between "update" and "upgrade" is not really big.

Good release notes, as well as good documentation and much

more are a necessary part of good software.

Why is it once again seemingly more important to reject

criticism than to take it up and consider it for the future?

I'm sorry Marcus, it's just this climate in the community

that has kept me from working more intensively for a long time.

I don't understand why you see here a bad climate.

I spoke of a climate that I do not like. And I did this because I see that
criticism for improvement is too often understood as negative.

I don't speak for all in the project.

Have you read what you write?

no, I always don't look for my writings.
Come on. ;-)

at first:
"a new release within the 4.1.x release branch _cannot be big_ by definition of the
version schema"

and to this I say: you are absolutely right

but then you write:
"_so_ using the word "upgrade" is not wrong."

and to this I say: if the change is small it would rather be an "update", because
"upgrade" generally applies to larger changes

Maybe because I see and understand it from the other side?

Also Wikipedia explains the difference between "update" and "upgrade" in
this direction (sorry, only in German):

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upgrade#Unterschied_zwischen_Upgrade,_Update_und_Downgrade

But I don't claim that Wikipedia is always right. Nor my opitions.

You might want to know that MSFT is back to its dirty tricks and prevents
the signed installer from running, courtesy of "Smartscreen" part of
"Microsoft Defender".

I've posted a tweet with screenshots

It's obvious that hiding the "run anyway" button behind a second click on
"more info" has the intent of people giving up, be scared, and not run it.

Good release notes, as well as good documentation and much more are a necessary
part of good software.
Why is it once again seemingly more important to reject criticism than to take
it up and consider it for the future?

I'm sorry Marcus, it's just this climate in the community that has kept me from
working more intensively for a long time.

a new release within the 4.1.x release branch cannot be big by
definition of the version schema. So, so using the word "upgrade" is not
wrong. This is my opinion.

And to be honest, I don't see a problem here. The difference of meaning
between "update" and "upgrade" is not really big.

Hi,

Done now...

Maybe we can have someone from the French community maintain the French
webpage, when we switched to a new CMS?

In fact, French downloads are the second biggest number overall (behind
US and before Germany).

[ANNOUNCE] Apache Roadshow Chicago, Call for Presentations

2019-01-15 Thread Trevor Grant
Hello Devs!

You're receiving this email because you are subscribed to one or more
Apache developer email lists.

I’m writing to let you know about an exciting event coming to the Chicago
area: The Apache Roadshow Chicago. It will be held May 13th and 14th at
three bars in the Logan Square neighborhood (Revolution Brewing, The
Native, and the Radler).

There will be six tracks:

   -

Apache in Adtech: Tell us how Apache works in your advertising stack
   -

Apache in Fintech: Tell us how Apache works in your finance/insurance
   business
   -

Apache in Startups: Tell us how you’re using Apache in your startup
   -

Diversity in Apache: How do we increase and encourage diversity in
   Apache and tech fields overall?
   -

Made in Chicago: Apache related things made by people in Chicago that
   don’t fall into other buckets
   -

Project Shark Tank: Do you want more developers or users for your Apache
project? Come here and pitch it!

This is an exciting chance to learn about how Apache Projects are in use in
production around Chicago, how business users make the decision to use
Apache projects, to learn about exciting new projects that want help from
developers like you, and how/why to increase diversity in tech and IT.

If you have any use cases of Apache products in Adtech, Fintech, or
Startups; if you represent a minority working in tech and have perspectives
to share, if you live in the Chicagoland area and want to highlight some
work you’ve done on an Apache project, or if you want to get other people
excited to come work on your project, then please submit a CFP before the
deadline on February 15th!

Tickets to the Apache Roadshow Chicago are $100; speakers will get a
complimentary ticket.

We’re looking forward to reading your submissions and seeing you there on
May 13-14!

Sincerely,

Trevor Grant

Any chance that a bounty can be offered to add such a feature?

this would be indeed a big improvement. But I see this only in the 4.2.x

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Availability of AOO-4.1.5 RC1

2017-12-13 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi all

Available for immediate testing are the source tarballs/zips and
community builds of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.5-RC1.

As noted, these are Release Candidates and are not official,
GA releases, although based on testing, the could become so.
So PLEASE test these out!

Installed and tested 4.1.5 pt + en_US language pack on Win10 Home x64
from scratch - works as expected
Updated 4.1.4 pt + en_US language pack to 4.1.5 pt + en_US language pack
on Win10 Home x64 from scratch - works as expected

On a side note: it would be great for this project if small changes like
this one could be provided as an update (like Mozilla Firefox) instead
of a full installer download. This would be the most meaningful new
feature for those who have slow and/or expensive internet access
(probably those who would benefit more from using AOO)

Any chance that a bounty can be offered to add such a feature?

Regards,
Pedro
